asking iren um i'm in good spirits on form um and yeah looking forward to the class now then let's uh have a look so today talking about cities right so that's the topic today city city cities um let me show you when we talk about introducing a city right then we may talk about can i make this bigger you know people often think well you know somebody's asking me about my city what do i talk about well um for starters for starters you could talk about the location right where is it you could talk about the size is it a big city or a small city maybe the population excuse me that's my t saying hello you may want to talk about the history possibly if you know the history of the city um and maybe the industry or industries right does it rely on tourism or engineering i.t fishing who knows of course you can talk about interesting places and of course being british you must talk about the weather always talk about the weather here right good sidra today it's not ginger tea or dates it's um tea regular tea not princess tea but just regular what we call black tea i guess and one of the reasons i was late i was trying to get my black tea ready so we can talk about different cities right different kinds of um aspects of the city now we are going to talk more about that i'm just going to share with you first a little bit of language that can help out and then i'm going to get you guys to start talking about your cities so a little bit of language first we could start off talking about location or size so for example you may want to say it's located in the north of spain right now let's get the pronunciation right um it would be good you don't have to but we often connect whenever you have a consonant and then the next word begins with a vowel sound we normally connect right located in located in located in located in you could say it either way try with me located in it's located in it's located in the north of spain or wherever wherever it is right it's located in the north of spain um so notice it's in located in the north of spain um if you're saying a particular compass direction it's located in the north of spain so it's in the north of a country but you might say it's located to the north of london right so in because it's in spain right it's in the country but two means it's to the north of to the north of london it's in the direction to the north right so manchester let's make it easier is manchester is located to the north of london right but manchester if you know manchester ever heard of it located in the north of england right in the country so it's in the country but to the north of a city or to the south of a city right brilliant you've got it right good very good yes it will be recorded just to let you know so you can always watch this later so we've got some examples here just to share a few examples in your own context right you may say as a zyduza man says it's located in the south eastern part of bangladesh great great good soli says as for its location that's a nice twist as for its location it's in the south coast of china ah right now if it's the coast this is really good sully it's on the coast right if you talk about the coast it's on the south coast of china so it's in the south of china but it's on the south coast brilliant very good great nasilad tells us that he or she sorry i'm from mahabad a small city located in the north west of iran brilliant very very good great you're from all over the place right good very good question quick question from uh said rocks what's the difference between vicinity and area so area is an enclosed space right it's an it's a specific space or place the vicinity just means near by or next to right um so vicinity is more like nearby so we might say for example let's take your let's take your example take my example manchester no or let's say my house no let's say the zoo is in the vicinity of the city center right and here it just means nearby or close by okay close nearby or close by we often also say in the neighborhood of in the neigh hood it's in the neighborhood of right or it's nearby so the vicinity just means nearby really a little different from area but very very good question thank you very much for that great so industry let's talk about industry we were here now industry is whatever the city relies on what whatever is you know important in that city um i'll just make this a little bit bigger i think so you can see it so you may say right the city relies on tourism it relies mainly on it relies on notice it relies on great get your prepositions sorted out today there's a big focus on prepositions today because we've got to see lots of them so it relies mainly on manchester relies mainly on football that's not true it's not true although it's famous for football ha ha famous four and remember the four becomes f it's famous for football it's famous for football manchester relies mainly on finance now it used to rely on manufacturing heavy industry i'm not sure what it relies on now i think it relies mainly on the service industry there are so many shops and restaurants and entertainment outlets i would say it relies mainly on the service industry or we can say its main source of revenue comes from the service industry right um or from tourism if we're talking about my town here santander it's not my hometown but it's where i live right it comes from the main source of revenue comes from tourism or maybe the service industry you could say right the service if i could spell it would be great it's not spelling it's my typing honest the service industry for example or we can say you know the economy or the economies let's put it in the singular i think the economy depends mainly on whatever so you could use some of these to talk about the industries in your city right i wonder what your city relies on right let's have a look oh interesting interesting i like i'll share a few of these as we move on to industry but also this is nice from sana i live in chelsea the heart of london heart of london or you could say it's located in the indian state of maharashtra brilliant great good so we've got here from alibeck my town which is called talgar is located in the north east of kazakhstan nice it's famous for its beautiful nature and lovely views of manchester and english speaking success ray nice very very very very nice that's lovely what else have we got any other okay we can talk about hard industry and light industry nice yes very very good um let's see what else anybody talking about industry now great shadrach its main source of revenue comes from the port and airport very interesting so i'm guessing you're on a coastal city right if you've got a port amandjot says my country india relies on agriculture yeah a lot of you right yeah pune city relies on agriculture brilliant it relies on agriculture the picture is not clear it's famous for back waters back waters right backwaters or black waters backwaters yes right sayatana assalam mainly relies on the tea industry i would put in here why because it mainly relies on industry or it relies on light industry it relies on tourism but once you're specific it's the tea industry once you're specific it's a particular industry the tea industry you need the right brilliant say antana thank you very much that's great great uh guru safa i live in baku oh in the capital of azerbaijan and it relies on oil nice it relies on oil right now somebody here from korea i'm sorry i don't know how to pronounce your name it's famous for crab and seafood brilliant excellent very very nice um it's famous for it's famous for temple um it's famous for temples i would put it in the plural i would say it's famous for temples and you can make it even more natural actually by saying it's famous for its temples right it's famous for its temples its temples are its own temples that belong to the city more natural right it's famous for its temples excellent very very nice so let's move on and talk a little bit about interesting places right we've talked about industry we've talked about location now if you want to talk about if you want to talk about interesting places um you may want to say well places worth visiting include the museum the town hall the beach right it's a nice turn of phrase plays places places places it's places worth visiting include the beaches try that with me places worth visiting include and give it a bit of a d d d d d d places worth visiting include the beaches places worth visiting include the temples [Music] places worth visiting include the crab and seafood restaurants right nice or if you want to talk about tourists if it is a tourist place a touristic place tourists tend to flock to the museums tourists tend to flock to the tate gallery in london tourists tend to flock to the louvre museum in paris right to flock to is to go to right equals go to um in crowds so it comes from the the word flock so to flock a flock is a big group of birds or a big group of sheep a flock of sheep and so when they all go together in a crowd they flock to flock to it's a big crowd to go to a place so the tourists tend to flock and they all go as they flock to the louvre museum to see the wonderful mona lisa which is such a disappointment i mean leonardo da vinci fantastic painter right engineer architect innovator scientist brilliant artist lovely picture but it's about that big it's about this small well it's about that big and you it's there on the wall and then there's about 200 people in front of you it's like trying to see a coin on a football pitch where is it mona lisa right ten tourists tend to flock to the mona lisa or you could say the places that attract most visitors are the museums the beaches the places that attract most visitors are right nice very nice so here visitors rather than tourists because if your town is not a tourist touristic town you will still have visitors who may come there um from other parts of the city or from um other countries maybe doing business as well so they are visitors maybe for educational reasons as well right let's see what you guys tell me about interesting places i'd love to know some interesting places actually um right okay a couple of questions just let me come in so florence says what will be the industry related to the stock exchange well the finance industry or the financial industry the finance industry i would say florence yes right there's chocks i'm from india and is famous for the taj monument the taj mahal right the taj mahal monument or temple now cern is famous for its skyscrapers yes you obviously live in a big big city okay so we've got famous for let's have a look interesting places so emmy if i remember you're from taiwan places worth visiting include mountains and waterfalls i would say water falls in the plural so it stays mountains and waterfalls if in fact there is only one waterfall then it includes mountains and a waterfall right but you need either the plural or the plural or the uh the the what the article is places worth visiting include hill stations tell me more great um yes yes places worth visiting include mountains with rustic style kebabs and lamb-based food that sounds like mongolia when i was in ulampathar we went out over the mongolian tundra or plains and it was beautiful mountains rustic style kebabs and it was all land-based food but i'm not sure maybe you're from iraq or another country that has similar places he's having a laugh he's having a laugh places worth visiting is keith's class oh laugh out loud brilliant disco the places that attract most visitors are okay now again because you're talking about specific temples right it's got to be the ancient temples and i'm doing this just even though it's a typo and you may know this to make it clear to everybody as well it's much you want either a or the plural right so let's put temples right the ancient temples the places that attracts most visitors are the ancient temples that's starting to sound good diksha thank you very much brilliant right somebody from kerala tourists tend to flock to i'm gonna do the same thing just to make it clear to everybody the hill stations right so we get the the we get the plural in brilliant excellent right so i'll just say it at this time places worth visiting include the shopping malls museums and art galleries muhammadu you've got the galleries right but you don't need the apostrophe right because it's just in the plural excellent tourists tend to flock to the museums and science city center and the science city center the science city center the city science center it's the science center in the city i suppose okay great so listen we've got some brilliant um ideas there about interesting places you can also talk about the weather right um and i'm just going to add a final phrase here i won't do too much about the weather because we'll probably do weather in another class but when you're talking about cities again you may want to say when you look at blog posts and the internet you often get ten things to do in manchester or five things to do in kerala or six things to do in new delhi right that's the typical blog post now obviously in the ielts test or when you're speaking to friends you're not going to say well what you can do in my city is go to the museums you must visit the tate gallery you can go and go through a list of 10 things with a friend maybelli maybe if you're having a long coffee but in the ielts test no you probably want to say one so a nice thing to say is if you could do one thing if you could do just one thing i would recommend right if you could only do there you go only that's nice if you could only do one thing in london for example i would recommend going to blah blah blah let's say the tate gallery for example if you could only do one thing in london i would recommend going to the tate gallery right what about your city if you could only do one thing in your city what would you recommend let me know gina brilliant very nice if you could only do one thing in south korea i would recommend going to the jeju island brilliant nice recommendation i would love to go back to south korea oh sd rocks i keep i'm sorry you're the fastest one but then people will say why do you keep giving the same person this one let's change up change up if you could only do one thing in almaty i would recommend going hiking going hiking without the two going hiking i know sounds strange right going going going hiking um but that's it going hiking yeah cccp right if you plan to visit mumbai you must visit the taj palace hotel right it's a must-see place brilliant okay the girlie if you could don't do if you could do one thing in my city i would recommend to visit i would recommend to visit the beach right i'm gonna suggest you put visiting i recommend visiting the beach and spending some time while having experience of water sports which are quite popular brilliant robert says if you could only do one thing in hanjou i would recommend going to the west lake beautiful it is one of the most beautiful lakes in china i think absolutely robert excellent very very nice so listen guys excellent we've talked about introducing a city right now then um i thought about introducing the city where i live so not my hometown which is manchester but the city where i live um and so what i decided to do last night is i went out and had a walk around the city actually i had a drive around the city i took my camera woman that's my daughter my camera woman was on the camera and we took a few shots of the city so i'm going to show you now um the city of santander where i live it's a short video and see if you can spot the different things i talk about you know do i talk about the weather or the tourist attractions do i talk about industry and what interesting language do i use you can make notes in the comment box of any interesting language phrases collocations right one thing to be careful is i've actually said a few spanish words because it's part of the environment so if you see the spanish word written it says sp which means spanish and then eng is the english translation so just to be clear one or two words are spanish words um but it will be clear in the notes you'll see why okay um if you want to learn spanish hey you can learn a bit of spanish oh how did you know that ah varan it's advanced happy birthday thank you very much adam nice to see you here um very very good to see you here yeah it's my birthday but it's not yet it's tomorrow if you could only do one thing in the usa i recommend the white house go visit the president ask him to leave the collection sorry najwab not the collections the collocations so listen out for collocations collocations are words that go together like heavy rain in some languages you say oh big rain there is big rain not in english we say heavy rain black tea not red tea but black tea the two words that go together oh i shouldn't have mentioned my birthday now everybody's saying happy birthday thank you very very much thank you yes it's tomorrow 12th of august yes i know brace myself i am bracing myself we should celebrate yes let's have a party let's celebrate i'll go and get some champagne we can celebrate with tea maybe and i'll maybe bring some biscuits in later to share with you so thank you very much thank you very much for that great so collocations and expressions oh no yes thank you very very much varun look what you've done you've told everybody indulge yourself in alcohol i will have a drink tonight thank you very much or tomorrow so let's come back let's come back to santander um coming back to the the video so watch it's about three or four minutes it'll show you santander and see if you can pick out any collocations or interesting language are you ready are you sitting comfortably i hope so let's have a look at santander hello and welcome to santander santander is a beautiful coastal city it's where i live it's up in the north of spain it's in the province of cantabria and there are two main industries here one of them is fishing and the other one is tourism one of the great things about santander is the beautiful countryside over here we're actually very close to the parque de las yamas it's one of the local parks and it's a great ecosystem of all kinds of wildlife it's really beautiful so as i said one of the um the great industries here is tourism and one of the places that attracts and draws lots of tourists and holidaymakers is the beach of course so here lots of people come to swim you can see in the background actually there's a golf course you can play golf as well you've got restaurants if you want uh some pescado or rationas fish and little snacks to nibble at you can even have an ice cream over here unelador which is great to keep you nice and warm and then you've got the beach where people will swim play jump paddle is a big popular game here racket ball hit somebody or the ball to your friend and play and this is the beach it's not a very very warm day today in fact if you look up you can see it's a bit overcast a bit dreary but typically the weather here is quite mild it's a mild climate most of the year maybe from about 18 to 25 degrees but today probably more like i don't know 17 degrees holidaymakers everywhere great so this is the beach um let's move on now the spanish love to go for a early evening walk and what better place than the promenade which is just here as you look over here it's the bay that looks out over the city and you can probably see a few people walking past they just like to walk up and down go for a little drink or an ice cream again and it's really really nice in a few moments we'll show you the actual bay and very often they've got um expositions here like historical expositions and if you just look over there you can see the galleon this is this huge ship from about 200 years ago which is parked over here and you can go on board pretend to be a sailor you can climb the mast you can drink rum you can do whatever you like and if you look out over there you can see lots of people right sat outside having a little stroll or a little something before dinner time they the spanish tend to eat dinner quite late 9 30 10 o'clock at night so it's a very very popular pastime to go for a little stroll before dinner um yeah it's nice spanish roundabout always fun and games and you're about to see one of the great tourist attractions of santander is the cathedral look at that that's the cathedral beautiful place in fact let's stop in the middle of the street so you can have a better look and of course one of the um the big attractions here is um is what is the bay which is just over here and behind me um a lot of tourists come and see the bottine center which you can see just up here is a it's kind of an art gallery modern art museum very nice interesting place to visit but this is it's a beautiful place it's about to start raining is a very very wet city so i'm going to run to the car before it actually throws it down it's really going to start with some heavy heavy rain so listen welcome to santander come and visit us sometime that's it from me cheerio cut that's my daughter cut great brilliant so that was it that was santander nice city now a lot of people are asking are you british or are you spanish um i'm british no i am british the thing is in my 20s i spent about 10 years living in spain when i was 20 to 30 years old and then i moved over to asia i was in china and malaysia and the last two or three years we came back to spain and so now we live in santander because of the mild camelot camp climate right brilliant good um so you've actually pointed out lots of the collocations and i'll just i'll just go over a couple of them i mean you've pointed out quite a few you can go back and watch the video as well um but just for your reference right things like dreary weather okay which is dull when it's dull and cloudy mild climate very nice so not very hot not very cold overcast is cloudy uh it looks over the bay so the city looks over the bay the bay is where the coast curves inward and it's almost like a little lake holiday holidaymakers right my that my daughter was cracking up laughing when this big fat holiday maker walks right past me she couldn't stop laughing and i was what and i didn't know why but then it was very very funny at the time holidaymakers to nibble is just to eat a little bit like nibble at snacks go for a stroll you may know stroll but go for a stroll is a nice collocation go for a walk because the spanish love to go for a walk about seven o'clock in the evening i think like a lot of mediterranean countries do that a big attraction heavy rain we talked about so these are kind of collocations as well okay brilliant how to use overcast it's overcast today right it's overcast today it's raining right and the last one you saw it's going to throw it down it's very informal but yes you can use it in ielts speaking because that's you need informal language in ielts speaking right you're not although it's even if you're doing the academic test speaking is all about informality conversational natural english in my city it often throws it down it often reigns perfect great so that was santander thank you for that and thank you for your comments you picked out some great some great um collocations and ideas and language excellent hunky dory now then we're going to move on to another topic um and we'll just have a look at this topic before we do the riddle topic first right so i have a question for you and here's my question i'll make it a bit bigger um i'd like to talk about this because i think it's such a common question right how cities have changed in recent years so the question would be how have cities changed in recent years and this will depend on each uh city it may be different in each country but thinking generally how have cities in your country maybe changed in recent years okay so tell me in the comments how have cities changed in recent years what do you think brilliant i'm going to take this down let's make some space let's take away my ideas first and let's come in okay gopinath the city which i live in has become more and more has become more and more busier um has become busier and busier yes joe yes you can say gloomy weather right gian says in the past our city didn't have many recreations recreations yes many entertainment facilities yes so rtm says renovated with modern buildings right so many cities have been renovated with modern buildings good uh we have more skyscrapers now right now that's nice right right now emphasizing this moment good we have more skyscrapers right now i assume you're bob right yeah many new buildings came up yes so that's nice many i'm going to follow that many new buildings have come up right you can use the simple past but also if you want to emphasize the the change now then the present perfect does that slightly better right so many new buildings have come up right but some really nice expressions many new buildings um have sprung up would be a very common uh phrase many new buildings have sprung up or many new buildings have cropped up right much more natural very very nice i came up it's great hold my hand okay but sprung up to spring up and to crop up also very very nice great right pot guard there are lots of skyscrapers now ah vampy so here and this is a really good point podgard you want to make a comparison right the past and now let's do that let's take your your idea there are lots of skyscrapers so we would say there are lots more sky i can't see wait a minute i have to take your comments away excuse me sky scrapers there are lots more sky scrapers now compared to before or compared to the past oh come on i'll just make that clear if i can so there are lots more sorry pop guard let me take you away a moment there are lots more skyscrapers now compared to before so lots more skyscrapers compared to before there are lots more skyscrapers compared to the past compared to the past nice useful chunks right to use very very good well done what else uh i'll just move that up to give space for mamat it's more crowded polluted and noisy very good yes very nice now sanveen has picked up on the present perfect idea very good sanveen they've become more modernized so that present perfect you know you're talking about the past but you're linking it to now which is perfect for this question right so how have cities changed they've become more modernized yes turk has done a similar thing well done many cities have developed in terms of technology infrastructure infrastructure let's get that one right just to help everybody infra [Music] infrastructure oh it's hard i changed it on the yeah let me take it all out infrastructure okay many cities have developed in terms of technology and infrastructure and architecture right those are nice words infrastructure notice it's a cha it's not a tool or a tool it's a chat infrastructure architecture lovely words so the infrastructure is the buildings the streets the bridges um the the roads all of that great this is nice as well cities have become more tech driven excellent yes clara says now we have skyscrapers um hamdi says yes cities changed in recent years due to an an increase in population and pollution very very true single curse talks about smart cities which are really an interesting area um where i think technology is driving cities to become smarter right so you may get that kind of a expression cities have become a smarter i take that away nice cities have become smarter so things like um in the streets there are sensors to identify parking spaces so that when you're driving you can have your mobile app on your car maybe in the car and you can see it tells you there's a parking space second right or just ahead and that's helping people park or technology to help the save energy so the street lights turn on when there's people in the street at night but they turn off if there's nobody in the street saving energy saving electricity so cities have become smarter absolutely very very nice um good yeah juvie it changed it has changed i would say it has changed rapidly from agriculture to industry because you've got agriculture is a noun i would keep two nouns agriculture and industry have a noun and a noun it's a better balance right okay excellent good so some nice ideas there very very good so we've talked a little bit about how cities have changed let me share a few ideas a few kind of collocations that may help you as you go through here in addition to your wonderful ideas we can add maybe there has been an influx of citizens so an influx is as you can imagine in to go in a movement of people into the city and influx is people coming in there has been an influx of citizens into the city right or into cities just into cities is fine there has been increased urbanization right urbanization is living in the city so there are more and more people living in the city there has been increased urbanization there is better quality housing higher living standards so living standards is the collocation we talk about living standards uh the quality of living if you like so higher living standards but also the cost of living so how expensive is your flat how expensive is it to eat out or to buy food the cost of living tends to be higher and higher right and of course there are more facilities as some of you mentioned um i think one of you mentioned recreation recreational facilities there are more recreational facilities as well we could talk about excellent lots of lots of stuff there nice okay good riddle let's have a look at today's riddle yes amenities yes more recreational facilities and i mean it is that's very good um mean it is just to add that somebody said yes you can talk about amenities as well um i have to get out of the way recreational amenities nice expressions guy very good oh shanti cities clara yeah let's add that in that's a really good point they're more and more um shanti cities shanti cities have cropped up have appeared right more and more shanti shanty cities have appeared more and more shanty cities have appeared so the shanti cities are a bit like not exactly sums but similar to slums a poor and dirty area around a city um yeah so we do we do talk about slums and the shanty city is not the same but the shanty city is the area around a city that has cropped up or appeared but is lower quality often temporary housing or not very high not many amenities or facilities so yeah very very good point um we can talk about an urban sprawl the urban sprawl is really um the spread the spread of the city oh and high street shops are disappearing right and of course with the coronavirus you may want to say this is even more noticeable following the coronavirus or in the wake of the coronavirus in the wake of just means following it's the same so it's you know you may want to talk about the coronavirus and how these changes are more noticeable okay brilliant anastasia i mean it is yes they're just the facilities right in a city so things may be like the um the parking lots or the museums um the the government facilities the the i was gonna say the youtube the tube the underground things like that okay good let's move on the riddle so i'm gonna try i'm gonna try and catch you out today so i've been thinking long and hard about the riddle because i realize what everybody does not everybody no no no no what one or two people do is check it on google so i've been racking my brains thinking and thinking right to rack my brains i have been racking my brains to think of a solution so here is the riddle right let's see how clever you are which is the most dangerous town in the world that's the riddle which is the most dangerous town in the world now think about it rack your brain is to think and think and think right rack your brains think about it saudi arabia no new york no ghost town no spain no coffin clara star gotham no not gotham hell oh no not really a town aleppo not today no kate well cape town i've heard is dangerous but no hong kong no no tokyo no which is the most dangerous town in the world danger towns good idea okay no town antarctica nope jakarta nope right so listen really carefully i'm going to give you a clue right to listen really carefully carefully which is the most dangerous city in the world rack your brains think about it no it's a riddle so it's not trivia it's a riddle so the answer is not what you think the answer is not the name of a city which is the most dangerous city in the world san dandera manchester what because i'm there well caracas is very uh dangerous at the moment but no my home no oh there we go there we go somebody's got it somebody's got it only one of you have got it right i'm going to give you the answer not mexico not texas could be texas not keith's town oi the answer right well done and i'm so happy because only one of you got it where is it i've lost you oh i've lost you come on one of you had it okay i can't remember oh there it is there it is this is the answer electricity electric city get it city electricity it's dangerous electricity electricity i'm so pleased because very few of you got it there you go i racked my brains and i got some of you i caught some of you out uh dear right so great riddle that was it let's move on from the riddle now i realize we're running out of time but i'm gonna stay a bit later because i started late if you can stay then obviously please do stay if you have to go of course you have to go of course so let's have a look we've got another another question coming up right um i'd like to look at this question right what do we think ah um what are the oh the question is what are the advantages of living in a city right i mean it's a really good question about advantages and disadvantages but what are the advantages of living in a city so what i like to do with this is actually is take you on a poll ask your opinion in this poll we've done polls before so if you know how this works um what i'll do are you with me cities ah you are with me great so which is the biggest city hang on a moment just let me get it right before i share it with you not the biggest city wait a moment i can't multitask here we go so i'll get out of the way i'd like to do this poll with you um which is the biggest advantage of living in a city right now you need to go to www.menti.com and if you can see it there mentee.com and use the code 79535 nine type in your answer so that's www.mentee.com m-e-n-t-i and just put in the code 795359 okay and then answer the question what is the biggest advantage of living in a city and we're gonna have a look together at what you think so we've got the choices are higher quality education reliable public transport a variety of shopping outlets or access to culture or better job opportunities well it seems pretty clear which one is the the biggest advantage at the moment better job opportunities education for quite a few people coming in second place but much less important reliable public transport i wonder if that's because a lot of people use their own car or even their own bicycle or motorbike in the city um shopping doesn't mean much to many people you can yeah variety of shopping outlets it's one but not the biggest advantage access to culture and maybe again maybe because now on the internet even if you're in the countryside you can access culture you can get your books you can watch plays theater dance music on the internet you can do it virtually right so maybe that's why but look at that better job opportunities by far by far the biggest advantage of living in a city excellent very very good now you can keep posting but i'm going to go on to the next question it's interesting education's coming up now that may be because a fewer number of you a smaller number of you have um children and maybe as you have children that becomes more important maybe for your children as well as for yourself right excellent now question number two next question is this one sorry bear with me so in two words only so only two words please don't write sentences two words what is the biggest disadvantage of living in a city what is the biggest disadvantage of living in a city air pollution very noisy poor health let me get out the way traffic congestion so the biggest ones are the most popular pollution lack of accommodation noise pollution traffic jams you can see pollutions there right air pollution noise pollution definitely still the biggest traffic congestion high cost is still there high cost is still there traffic traffic jams noisy i can see then that traffic clearly traffic congestion is coming up as the big big big the biggest disadvantage pollution noise pollution too crowded crowded is coming up a lot lack of security lonely dense population wow we've got some amazing uh collocations here absolutely amazing look at that if i can make it a little bit bigger you can see some of them i'll share this with you later high cost noise pollution so clearly right expensive you can see what the big disadvantage is wow this is cool isn't it i didn't realize it was this cool and i think the good thing is we can download this later and share all of those collocations with you so pollution it's the big one right very very interesting okay whoa where am i come back okay i'm going to close that but absolutely brilliant you can keep no don't keep posting let me close it because otherwise it will get far too big but very very nice excellent so those are the disadvantages um here are a few oh no here are a few other collocations you may want to think about bear with me so when it comes to advantages you may want to think about advantages access to culture high level of convenience reliable public transport a variety of shopping outlets but obviously that wasn't very very important advantage i think in the ielts test you probably just want to mention one or two right one of the dangers in part three is that you start listing don't do that just say one or two and then develop your answer right so you may say well i think there are several advantages of living in a big city first and foremost there are better job opportunities because a lot of the multinational companies have their headquarters in the big cities and so it's they are more likely or i am more likely to get a job in a big city than in the countryside and of course another big advantage i would say is the higher quality education you and your children can receive in a big city we can see that because there's a plethora of international schools maybe private schools as well as the best universities are often located in the big cities so i think those are a couple of big advantages of living in a city right so you can see we're not listing because listing is just too superficial you're going into detail pick one or two and develop your answers in part three right so those are um advantages what about disadvantages some things we might want to say here disadvantages i'll just add a few here bear with me disadvantages i adore fish and chips no sorry the growth of slums high rate of an unemployment that's true right so although there are job opportunities there's a high rate of unemployment there's wealth inequality the growing gap or disparity that's a nice word the disparity between the whoa thank you between get rid of me the rich and the poor and let's add in of course the ones that you all said traffic congestion um pollution now which may be air pollution noise pollution all sorts of pollution so great you've got there some different disadvantages you could also talk about so as well do the same thing right give one or two uh don't don't um list them just give one or two so for example you might say in a part three answer um you might say the disadvantages of living in a city well um one of the biggest disadvantages to my mind is the excessive traffic congestion and we can see that because so many people want to own their own car and many cities have not been built with heavy traffic in mind so often the streets are too narrow or the city planning is not effective and so there's a build-up of traffic alongside that coupled with excessive pollution from the traffic but also noise pollution and air pollution which obviously can have a detrimental effect to our health and can you know dissuade people from wanting to live in a city so i would say these are a couple of significant disadvantages of living in a city right there we go that could be a possible answer very good now then now then let me come back to you because you may have noticed as we're talking we're going to finish up we've got a kahoot a kahoot a kahoot to finish up with excellent now then just bear with me a moment because i have to set this up so hang on the kahoot is coming i'm going to take this off but you can just have a look and practice some sentences with these just while i get the kahoot so bear with me one minute i'm still here not only the kahoot but also um i was almost out of battery so i've just plugged in i'm back i'm back i am here really i was afraid my battery was running out so kahoot if you've got time please stay for
