good evening my brothers and sisters it's good to be in the house of the lord again to share the word of god with you on this evening let us go to the lord in prayer father we thank you for this day we thank you for the lord jesus christ we thank you for his loving kindness his tender mercies toward us father i pray that you would give us ears to hear what the spirit would say to the church i pray lord that you would continue to bless us during covet 19 as we continue to practice social distancing as we continue lord to do those things that keep us safe i pray now that you would give us years to hear what the spirit would say to the church we thank you and we give you glory and the only name that matters in jesus name amen again it's good to share with you online to be able to share the word of god with you in a most profound way hopefully today we'll say something that will bless your hearts that will encourage you through these trying times that we are going through i wanted to say a few things before i get into the word i want to go ahead and say in advance thank you for those who participated in the church anniversary who helped to put it on it's going to be this sunday at 10 o'clock so i want to thank minister joey welcher and his wife brenda welcher and everyone that played a part in our virtual service to make this 122nd church anniversary what it is these are difficult times we've never been in a place like this where we celebrate our church anniversary virtually but i believe the lord has allowed us to pull it off and i think we're going to have a very good church anniversary so again i want to thank you encourage those of you who have not paid your 122 to go ahead and do that when you get an opportunity well let's get into the word of god we're still in mark chapter number two we're gonna pick it up with verse number eight today and the bible reads and i want to read it from the amplified version and we'll go back with a couple of different versions so we can give some comparison and just to see how uh it it matches up what he's saying so that we can understand it a little clearer immediately jesus being full fully aware of their hostility and knowing in his spirit that they were thinking this said to them why are you debating and arguing about these things in your heart now let me read it to you in the king james version and immediately when jesus perceived in the spirit that they so reasoned within themselves he said unto them why reason ye these things in your heart now the backdrop of this text deals with the fact that jesus has been in this house where peter and others were and this man that was lame was brought down through the roof and jesus healed them and as jesus healed this man he was being critiqued and criticized by the religious right those that professed to know god but really didn't have a relationship with god they were critiquing jesus on why he would heal this man and why he would tell this man his sin is forgiving him rather than just to heal him but jesus checked them right then and there when he perceived what they were reasoning what they were thinking in their heart jesus went right to the heart of the matter he asked them why is it that you reason about these things that are done when you when you understand who god is you have no need to question god about what he does these people should have been celebrating but rather they were criticizing that's like a lot of us in the church today rather than celebrate somebody's healing rather than celebrate somebody's good fortune we find a reason to criticize a good deed my brothers and sisters i've learned in my life if you don't have anything good to say just don't say nothing at all sometimes it's best just to keep our mouth closed but in this chapter we're gonna see jesus demonstrate the power and authority that god has given him to both forgive sin and to heal those that are sick now my brothers and sisters that's something that we should learn today or we should know how to do number one we need to learn how to forgive and then we need to if we can help someone along the way what we know about jesus is that he had the power to heal and he had the power to forgive now we have it within our power to forgive people but yet we won't do that sometimes we try to hold it over their head rather than forgiving them and releasing them from the offense of the deed that they have done because we like to have stuff on people we like to have something to remind them of what they did in their life but not jesus what he does the first thing he tells this man when he heals him he says your sin be forgiving you now he could have told the man look you're healed don't worry about it go about your business but what he wanted him to know the most important thing in his life was that he was forgiven of his sin as i told you last week you can walk into hell with two good legs amen but if god heals you you can go to heaven and be forgiven for everything that you have done in your life so let's watch and see the power of god at work and how he demonstrates that power and shows us that he has the authority the power to forgive sin and to heal us of all of our diseases there's a scripture i want you to look at in isaiah nine and six isaiah nine and six talks about the power that god has given jesus in his coming government listen at what he says for unto us a child is born unto us the son is given and the government shall be upon his shoulder his name shall be called wonderful counselor the mighty god the everlasting father and the prince of peace but the word i want you to look at is government when you understand the power of government and the power of the governor you understand that the governor has the power to pardon you and we've seen that exercise did even in this day and time in 2020 we've seen the president pardon some people he gave them a pardon whether they deserved it or not and what i want us to understand is that when god forgives us we really don't deserve it but it's because of god's mercy and god's goodness that he forgives us of all of our sin and that's why he tells us in first john chapter number one in verse nine he tells us amen that that that if we uh forgive one another what he says to us is that god is faithful and just to forgive us of our sin and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness if we confess our sin that's what god would do for us so immediately jesus perceived what was in their spirit as they reason within themselves as to why why jesus would heal this man and call his sins to forgive him to be forgiven and to be healed of all of his sickness now jesus come back and say whether it is easy to say to the sick of the palsy that sins with forgiven thee or to say arise take up your bed and walk so which is easier well it's hard for us in any instant but jesus amen is easy for him to say your sins are forgiving because he has the power to do it the bible has already stated in matthew i believe it's chapter number one that jesus his name shall be called jesus and he shall forgive his people for their sin that's why jesus came into the world is to forgive us for our sin and to heal us of all of our diseases so we know that he has the power to do that so what is authority and what is power when we understand authority we know that authority is the power of the right to give orders or to make decisions see god make decisions and he don't need our approval to make certain decisions unlike us in the church we vote on everything whether we do it or not we vote because we think it's the right thing to do but god has the authority and god amen put that authority in jesus and he exercised that authority over sickness over diseases and he forgives us of our sin i don't know about you today but i'm glad that the lord has forgiven me for my sin and that sets me free so that i can be able to do the things that god has called me to do luke 4 and 18 is another verse i want us to look at when we talk about authority luke 4 18 said the spirit of the lord god is upon me why because he's anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted to preach deliverance to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind and to set at liberty them that are bruised so we see that jesus has an anointing and a mandate on his life to preach the gospel and that's what this we've been talking about uh in this chapter uh in the book of mark is the gospel of jesus christ and if you look at what jesus did versus what we do today in america and around the world when it comes to the gospel he does not abuse his authority he just he does not use his authority for power for position for prestige for any other reason he doesn't use it to gain an advantage but he uses it to set people free he does not abuse his authority like those of us in authority just because we hold power and position sometimes we overstep our own authority that we believe we have all authority that is given is given by god and if we abuse that authority god is going to hold us accountable and so jesus operates in authority he operates in this power that god has given him now notice his power is always checked he's always under control because he understands that the son of man hath power on earth to heal amen and forgive sin and to set those free who are sick god and god alone has that power and when we understand that jesus is god manifested in the flesh he's the son of god even though he's called the son of man but on earth god has given him authority to do what it is that he does now the question my brothers and sisters who gave you authority to do what you do who who gives you authority to do the things that you do do you have that kind of authority uh that god has given you are you doing it on your own you can't just take authority you can't just assume authority you have to be under authority as well as operate in authority but jesus he says in verse 10 but that he but that ye may know who that the pharisees may know that the sadducees may know and that all of us may know that the son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins now brothers and sisters that is heavy sin is it's a shooting word i like to use that term it's as though we're always missing the target no matter how you aim no matter how you try to hit it as long as sin is in your life you're gonna miss the target the bible says all have sinned and come short of the glory of god everybody and no matter who you are you can never hit the target because of your sin and jesus forgives us so that we can hit the target once again so he has that power on earth to forgive sin and so he's being questioned by the religious right they want to know why does this man say your sins are forgiven why is he talking like that he's blaspheming against god well these people who are were supposed to know who jesus were they doubted who he was they were supposed to have read the old testament they were they were supposed to have known that jesus was come in a humble way but jesus did not come the way they expected him to come and so when he came he came doing things totally opposite of how they did them they always found fault in what people did now notice what he said jesus said so i say unto thee get up arise take up your bed go your way and go to your own house take take your bed up go back to your house and when you go back people are going to see that you are different can i just stop for a moment and tell you that when you come in contact with jesus when you come in close proximity with jesus when you have a relationship with jesus you cannot go back home the same way that you came this man had an encounter with jesus and he goes back he'll he goes back his sin is forgiven his life is changed now my brothers and sisters i know that we go the church but that something has to take place on the inside of us that changes us from the inside out so that when it does when people see us they are going to know that we are different because of how we act and because of how we carry ourself you cannot come into the presence of god and leave with the same nasty attitude that you had before you met him you can't know jesus and continue to act the way you do if you know him then you will act accordingly and not in a different manner so this man goes back home watch this he takes up the same bed or the cot that he was carried in and he takes it as evidence so that people will know this is where i used to be but this thing that had me it no longer has me anymore maybe you gotta have habit in your life that you need to break and when god causes that habit to be broken in your life you can become a testimony to those who are struggling with the same thing that you've been struggling with you can tell them the habit or the thing that had me i not have it and so i can share with you and so immediately immediately the man arose he did what jesus told him to do jesus told the man take up your bed and walk so the man got up and here's the thing some of us have been down so long that we don't even have getting up on our mind and that's what we need to do you got to have some getting up in your spirit if you don't have getting up in your spirit you will stay in what you're in for the rest of your life there are some people that loves a pity party they love for folks to celebrate them in their pity and in their mess but you need somebody to walk in your life and tell you hey it's time for you to rise up and come up out of what you're in because there are greater things ahead for you in your life he took up the baby notice he didn't he didn't ask the four brothers that brought him on the beat he took it up himself there some of us are waiting on others to do for us what only you can do for yourself there are some things you need to do for yourself you and i always want people to do stuff for you do some stuff for yourself and then the man he went forth with them now notice he he he went with them with them all and so much that they were all amazed listen when your life changes people are amazed they are shocked they are astonished but here's the thing do they glorify god when they see your life change and glorify god saying listen at what they say we never saw it on this fashion now here's here's a bunch of church folk here's a bunch of people who were who were criticizing jesus and there were some onlookers and they said all of this time in my life i've never seen anything like this i've never seen a man let down through a roof four brothers let him down through a man's roof and jesus speaks a word to him notice now jesus does not perform an exorcism he does not perform some kind of special ceremony he speaks a word and the bible says faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of god if you want your situation to change you got to hear what god is saying you can't listen to what other people are saying there are some people have seen this man in this state all of his life they were expecting him to remain where he was but jesus was in the house and because he was in the house the brothers that brought him brought him to the right place and they were amazed and noticed now they glorified god saying we never seen anything like this parker can i get another version jesus went out go back again got another uh the amplified version of that was that verse number 12 i believe it was 12. yeah there we go and he got up and he immediately picked up the mat and went out before them all don't you know those people who were standing out there had to be shocked when they saw the brother who was carried in now now y'all forgive me what i'm about to do this this ain't like no benny hen crusade okay this ain't like that this ain't been a hand where he blows and wave his jacket and everybody fall no not this guy this is jesus speaking the word the man picks up his mat went out before them all so that they all were astonished and they glorified and praised god saying we've never seen anything like this and see jesus doesn't do the things that he do to draw a crowd he does them because they are just in him and that's what god has anointed him to do now verse 13 says jesus went out again along the galilean galilean seashore i noticed this word all the people were coming to him everybody was coming to him and he was teaching them i told you people go where needs are being met now i want to just parenthetically state this now every need cannot be fulfilled with dollars let me just say that most people think if i just had more money i would be better off no no you need god to forgive you first you need your sins forgiven and then if you are sick you need healing in your body and sometimes alone with forgiveness comes healing it has been said and practiced in some some of the scientific practices with doctors that some people when they learn how to forgive they heal they tend to heal because you have so much bottle up inside of you that it prevents you from even being happy most of the time some of us just need to learn how to forgive to let go of some things if you let go of it maybe you might feel better and he was teaching them we need teaching i wished i could holler and scream and holler like some preachers but we need teaching we need teaching more now than we ever did in our lives and so verse 14 says as he as jesus was passing by this is where he saw matthew levi son of affairs sitting in the tax collector's booth you know jews didn't like tax collectors they didn't like them because they were putting levies on them based on the roman government and many of the jews felt like they were traitors because they were sitting in those positions but notice jesus saw matthew a tax collector and he said to him come on follow me i just believe that god sees things in people that we can't see i believe there is a redeemable quality in every human being i just believe that i even believe there's a redeemable quality in the president of the united states i just believe that if god could god could use the apostle paul hey paul paul was standing holding the jackets of the people that were stoning stephen to death but the lord got a hold of his heart so there is a redeemable quality i just believe that now you don't have to believe it he says follow me as my disciple jesus said i want to take your trade i want to take the craft that you have and i want to show you how to use it the right way that's not the wrong people with having money as long as the money don't have you there's nothing wrong with having a position as long as the position don't possess you some of us are possessed by power and position we like to beat our chest because of the position and the power and and all of this kind of that it's not about that jesus shows us i can take a man that you don't like i can take a man that's collecting taxes and i can train him to be a disciple that's what jesus is showing us he's showing us follow me as my disciple and accepting me as your master and teacher and walk in the same path of life that i want you know what the problem with a lot of us is we don't want to walk the path and the life that jesus walked now we all often say oh i'm a child of god i want to be like jesus but we don't want to walk that path we don't want to be taught that way we don't want to be taught certain things we don't want to be taught if you're smack on one cheek turn the other cheek we don't want to want to be taught that that you forgive those that despitefully use you and those that hate you that's what jesus taught he taught us to love one another he told us to love in spite of and this is what matthew did matthew got up and followed jesus became one of his disciples believing and trusting in him and following his example and i'm just getting ready to cut this oh listen whose example are you following better yet who are you following some people will drive across the country just to hear a particular preacher preach but they won't sit in their house and read their own bible so that they can get some understanding and know that jesus is your example not not the not the clothes line that these people have designed not not not all of this stuff that we're chasing after but rather chasing after jesus so that we might be an example to the world the things that god has blessed us with we have to be willing to say god i lay it all on the altar just to follow after you and so i i want to encourage you as we continue to compare and contrast the gospel of jesus christ compared to the gospel that's being preached in america and around the world what does it look like who does it represent what's the message of the gospel that we are preaching and that is that jesus is still forgiving sin that's the message today and we need to know that and i want to encourage you those of you when you get an opportunity listen to our online service and just know uh that we are doing the best that we can in these times to try to make sure we keep you safe and keep ourselves safe until god gives us the old clear sign where we can all come back together and worship once again i want to just encourage you if you don't know who jesus is i message off to young black men in america and i want you to hear my heart i have two sons and i love both of them dearly i want to encourage every young black male if you are stopped by the police whatever they are asking you to do comply with it please sir comply with it it does not make you weak because you comply with their command and their orders i'm encouraging young black men not to resist all police officers are not bad all police officers are not corrupt like in everything else in life there are a few bad apples so what i'm asking you if you don't have a driver's license don't run just take the ticket if you get caught with paraphernalia just go ahead and take the ticket do what it is you need to do don't cause your mother and father more pain by watching you get shot on somebody's cell phone and it goes all over facebook live and everywhere else my brothers and sisters all lives matter every life matters and i just want to echo this you may get mad at me we need to address some black owned black crime as well as the crimes that are being committed by police officers that are killing black men we need to scream just as loud at these crimes that are being committed in the black community by black young men we need to say something we need to teach our children and we can't get mad at at white people and not get mad at black people a life lost is a life lost whether it's by a police officer that is white or by another black person that shoots down and killed another black person i'm not against black lives matter i believe all my lives matter i think some of the things that are done are overboard i think that police officers should use some non-lethal weapons but it has happened don't let it happen to you comply with what they are asking you to do and maybe you live to fight another day you can fight it through the court system you can do it some kind of way but don't resist so that we would have to bury another young black male or female for that matter and for these young males that are carrying guns 17 years old you don't have any business with a gun and moms and dads you need to check your children you need to see what they got in their rooms and what they're doing we have to address some of these issues ourselves and if your children are packing guns in the house and you're not saying anything about it you're at fault you're the parent you have to have some kind of order in your house don't allow them to do that please ma'am please sir if it sounds like i'm fussing i am and that was my intent so that you may live another day so that you may live to fulfill your destiny young brothers there's too much in you the bible says counsel in the heart of a man is like deep waters but it takes a man of understanding to draw it out everything you need to succeed in this life god put it inside of you you just need to discover what it is god bless you i love you we pray our way out well father we thank you for this day we thank you for the for the the word of god disease and we thank you for all of your people and while we are still in lockdown god we still find a reason to give you glory on and praise because you allowed us to be here another day we thank you for your grace and your mercy i pray now lord god for the plight of our young black men and what we are facing in this cur this community and around the world the the what is going on in our black communities i pray lord god that we will begin to teach our young men and young women what it is they need to do lord god to be able to succeed in life and not to make some of the errors that they continue to make so father we thank you we praise you we give you glory we give you honor and praise now may the grace of god the sweet communion of the holy spirit may he rest ruled and abide with us all henceforth now and forever in jesus name we pray amen and we'll see you online
