prayer my brothers and sisters I want to get back on the subject that we began about the the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer I want to get back to it I think we've talked about the Holy Spirit comforter the Holy Spirit our counselor the Holy Spirit I help her the Holy Spirit our intercessor and today we want to embark upon a new subject we want to talk about the Holy Spirit our advocate advocate the Holy Spirit our advocate I want to look at first John chapter number two in verse 1 and it says my little children these things write I unto you that you sin not and if any man sin we have an advocate with the father Jesus Christ the righteous I just want to just teach this just a little bit the Holy Spirit is I advocate when an advocate is a person who puts on a case for someone else or in on behalf of someone else it's really a legal term we can justly call the Holy Spirit a defense lawyer why because he represents us in the court of the Almighty God and he pleads our case against our adversary the devil the Bible calls the devil the accuser of the Brethren and anything that you do regardless to how small it is the devil is always standing there to point it out what you didn't do right or what you should have done and he's there to accuse you and stand before God and say see I told you that he or she is not what they say they are well thank God we got a good defense attorney and his name is Jesus Christ the righteous and he can stand there in the presence of God and declare that his blood has justified every last one of us so he represents us in the court of the Almighty God he pleased our case against our adversary the devil Satan Lucifer the devil who accuses God's children day and night in the Old Testament God's people did not have an advocate and I'm happy that the New Testament believers have a purse no attorney who fights and please on behalf of them day and night in the court of heaven my brothers and sisters I want to say to you if if you had to go to court and you went by yourself depending on what charges you were facing the judge himself would tell you you need an attorney he will tell you it's not a good idea to represent yourself and I began to read and study and I understand now why the judge would tell you that because the judge is looking for a particular kind of language from a lawyer that presents the case case study case law statues in the law all of those kind of things that are so complicated for us to navigate our way through and a good attorney can navigate him way his way through some of the most complicated kinds of stuff but there is no attorney like Jesus Christ we often paraphrase that he is a doctor that never lost a patient he's a lawyer in a courtroom and he never lost the case that's the truth whether you know it or not Jesus has never lost that anything that he has ever set out to do so I'm happy that we have in this new testament of personal attorney who fights and pleas on behalf of them or all of us day and night in the course of heaven when guilt of sin begins to set in my brothers and sisters we have this word that John has given us he says my little children he says I write these things to you that's you saying that he said I I prefer that you're not seeing I prefer that you don't get caught up in sin I prefer that you don't be too tempted and lured into sin but if you are here's what he said and if any man sins we have an advocate with the father so so what do we really have we have there's this one that offers support he offers strength he's a counselor he intercedes for us when it's necessary he's there to plead our case and so he's saying we have an advocate where is he he is with the father Jesus Christ the righteous is in heaven and he's saying father my blood covered their sin past present and future provided they accept me as their Savior I'm here to represent them the word advocate in the Greek being Parakletos which is our advocate so john used his greek word Parakletos and reference to the holy spirit four times and then he switched it amen we'll look at this a little later on the Holy Spirit is our Parakletos on earth I want you to hear me the Holy Spirit is a advocate on earth while Jesus is in heaven he is our advocate in heaven the Holy Spirit lives inside of us on earth while Christ is seated in heaven we are in Christ in heaven now Ephesians chapter number one and verse three says blessed be the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ who hath is already done blessed us with all spiritual blessings rare in heavenly places in Christ so we are in Christ we are seated in heavenly places with him and so he represents us in heaven why the holy spirit is with us here in the earth so Jesus is representing all of the believers in heaven he is our personal attorney or defense lawyer in the courts of heaven we are being represented by God the holy spirit and by God on earth and in heaven so we have representation in both places heaven and earth Jesus in heaven the Holy Spirit and earth notice again according to Ephesians 1:3 all spiritual blessing belong to us because we are we're in Christ see notice the difference now I was sharing about the gospel the spiritual blessings we always talk about the physical material natural blessing but notice what Paul talks about he talks about spiritual blessings in heavenly places there's some things we ought to want God to download into our lives from heaven we also want God to download wisdom and knowledge and understanding from heaven we need to tap into the spiritual blessing that God has provided for us in and through Christ Jesus our Lord now this has nothing to do with our identity but with what Christ has accomplished for us look at what he has accomplished for us he died for us stayed in the grave for three days I rose from the dead went back to heaven and he's seated at the right hand of God the Father why to make intercession for us to intercede for us to advocate for us to plead our case before a righteous judge and when we look at this righteous judge if God were to judge us Amen if he was and he's righteous if we look at a court system a human court system and advocate speaks for the rights of his or her client we call them lawyers because they have studied the intricacies of the law and they can navigate through those often complicated statutes I talked about with accuracy and precision that is the picture John paints when he refers to Jesus as our advocate with the father listen now God's right slow pronounces us guilty on all counts not some on all counts we have violated God's standards we rejected his right to rule over our lives and continue to sin even after coming to a knowledge of the truth Hebrews 10 and 6 now listen to what he said if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth there remaineth no more sacrifice for sin in other words if you know it and you do it then you you you that's no sacrifice for it so he says that so guess what if we do that we're guilty that's why I said we're guilty on all counts not some counts all counts we're guilty and he tells us that according to his own word then in Romans chapter 1 verse 21 through 23 this that we said because that when they knew God they glorified him not as God in other words we didn't honor God when we knew God we still did not honor God as God we were not thankful I hear so much complaining in the body of Christ that we are not thankful for anything we're so ungrateful and unthankful to God regardless of what he blesses us with we're still complaining my grandmama used to say we're crying with a loaf of bread on our arm what you're crying for get you a couple of slices and make you a sandwich stop crying stop complaining but became vain in their imagination and their foolish hearts were darkened it don't take much for the devil to darken our heart professing themselves to be wise they became fools God gotta let you make a fool out of yourself if you think you're so wise and you don't need God then just keep doing what you're doing and this is what he said we did we changed the glory of the uncorruptible God you cannot change the glory of the uncorruptible corruptable God he said we changed the glory of God of the uncorruptible God into an image like a corruptible man I wanna pause right here God is not a man you can't make him be one you can't make him like unto one and so we can't compare anybody to God because God is in a class all by himself so regardless to who you worship and there are some people who are worshiping people today they are followers of certain people and they would do crazy thing they'll go to a gathering without a mask that's how crazy they are they are following after a man and not after God and they've changed the image of God into that lack of a corruptible man and to birds four-footed beasts and creeping thing and some people check that horoscope every day to see what their horoscope is going to tell them if you're connected to God your spirit to speak to you and let you know you don't need that and so my brothers and sisters here's what first Timothy to enforce it who would have all men to be saved and to come unto the knowledge of the truth that's the will of God God want us all to be saved and come and to the knowledge of the truth that's what God wants so the only just punishment for wickedness is an eternity inhale look at revelation 14 and 10 you remember I've talked about this we don't talk about here the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God which is poured out without mixture God ain't chasing it he ain't diluting it he let it roll for flow the poured out would mix without mixture into the cup of his anger or indignation and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the Holy Angels and in the presence of the Lamb that's amazing I don't with brimstone is but I've been burnt by fire and I can tell you one thing fire is hot and it does not feel good it leaves a mark but can you can you imagine being in torment forever and notice we say in the president of the Angels and in the presence of the Lamb so you can't get out often tell people that's only one way in the hail and there's no way out one way in and the way you get in is reject Jesus Christ and there's no way out because once you're in you in you can't get out but the fearful and unbelieving and the abominable and murderers and whoremongers and sorcerers and idolaters and all Liars oh my god shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone that's the second death so that's just from that perspective now Jesus stands as the advocate between our repented heart and the law that is the law of God if his blood has been applied to our lives through faith and confession of him as Lord Romans 10:9 if thou shalt confess with our mouth the lord jesus and thou shalt believe in thine heart that God has raised him from the dead thou shalt be saved 2nd Corinthian oh let me get in for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made on to salvation so your mouth is merely confessing what your heart already believes then in Corinthians 1st Corinthians 6 and 9 I believe that skip 1 no 5 and 21 yeah 5:21 he says know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God be not to see neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor effeminate nor abusers of sails with mankind this is the word of the Lord people I'm not making this up I'm not here to cast a shadow I'm just preaching the Word of God this is what the Word of God says and I believe that the Word of God stands firm I don't believe there's no negotiation in the Word of God if you die in this condition without the Lord Jesus Christ then you will end up in hell I just believe that now when we think about this I'm just reading a few things and I want you to just just bear with me when we receive him we also received these spiritual blessing I was telling you about in Ephesians chapter number one and verse three in heaven and places and having the Holy Spirit as Jesus as our comforter our counselor a helper our intercessor our advocate our strengthener and our standby my brothers and sisters we can't lose with that combination so let me encourage you he is pleading our case with this righteous judge called God can you imagine conversation going somewhat like this father I know this one has sinned and violated our commands he or she is guilty as charged however you have said that my sacrifice is sufficient payment for the dead that he or she owes my righteousness was applied to their account when they trusted in me for salvation and forgiveness I have paid the price so he can be pronounced not guilty this is the advocate he's pleading our case and he's saying to the Father I know he's done it done some things wrong but my blood pay the price there's no debt left for him to pay Romans 8:1 there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit now if all of us would be honest at some time or another we have walked according to our own flesh but as we mature in the body of Christ we begin to change stem that there's a term in marching and drilling ceremony is called change stealth march and and and you change stuff in other words you are out of step but the change step is to get you back in right step so that you're marching in the right direction and right step with God and then in Colossians 2:14 I'm almost done blotting out the handwriting of Ordinances that was against us and there was so many things against us well you couldn't keep the law which was contrary to us and took it out of the way what did he do with it he nailed it to the cross all the ordinances all the things that that that the forefather would try to put in place to tell you what you had to do what you had to keep Jesus nailed it to the cross and he makes it simpler for us Jesus is our advocate when God first accepts us into his family as his children according to John chapter one in verse 12 st. John 1:12 but as many as received him to them gave he power to become the sons of God even to them that believe on his name is just as simple he remains our advocate forever in 1st John 1 and 9 he said if we confess our sin he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all on righteousness that's what God does if we confess our sin God is faithful and just and some people said well I sent over and over we'll keep confessing that's what I tell people keep confessing God will forgive you and eventually you'll come to a place where some things you won't like to do anymore because God will have delivered you from it so he is faithful he's just a forgive us our sin and to cleanse us from it so as his followers we can't still be in sin but when we do we're commanded to confess that sin to God confession is an agreement with God about how bad sin really is we stand guilty before him with no argument and no justification of our own our advocate steps before the judge and together they agree that because we are in Christ no further punishment is necessary Jesus has made sufficient payments to redeem us on another note Jesus is such a compassionate advocate in fact that he has experienced life in this world just like we have to he has been tempted rejected overlooked misunderstood and abused he does not represent us theoretically he represents us experientially in other words he went through everything that we went through and more he lived the life we live yet he did so without succumbing to the evils that befall us Jesus didn't let the devil trick him like we do I've been tricked by the devil you've been tricked and if you live you probably be tricked again but just remember you got an advocate he successfully refused to give in to the devil's temptation and he is a high priest because you perfectly fulfill the law of God there's no one that could have fulfilled the law they couldn't do it Abraham couldn't do it Isaac couldn't do it Jacob couldn't do it illogic nobody could do it only Jesus could do that Hebrews four and fifteen he says we have not an High Priest which cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities seo human weaknesses but was in all points tempted like as we are yet without sin in other words he understands he knows he knows what you're dealing with Hebrews 9:28 so Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation that's our God that's Jesus John 829 he and he that sent me is with me the father has not left me alone before I do always those things that please is him that's the father we thank God for Jesus and him doing what pleases God the Father our advocate can plead our case from personal experience something like this father this young woman was violated has violated our righteous command but she loves you she wants to serve you I remember what it was like to be tempted like that and my heart goes out to her she has confessed this sin and desires to turn away from it because of my sacrifice you can forgive this sin and purify our heart once more let us each let's teach her how to let the Holy Spirit comfort her and strengthen her to assist and resist the next time this is what the Holy Spirit does he teaches us how to resist so that we won't fall into the same thing - next time that's what he wants to do that's what the Advocate does so finally and earthly advocate can only plead our case from its sternal evidence or witnesses testimony i heavily advocate knows our hearts and please our case on the basis of what is there see this is important people may mess up but their heart can be in the right place and God knows the heart you know people judge us from the outside only god can judge the intents of the heart and he knows what's in the heart god knows a person intent is to do the right thing but they might be weak in another area but he judges the heart Luke 5:22 but when Jesus perceived our thoughts he he knows I thought and see what a lot of people don't understand their judge you talk about you they're low rates you but that's seeing SCN - they call you all kind of names call you out your name you're not this you're not there but see if you were saved you wouldn't do it that's for God to judge what's in a person's heart because only God knows that now granny there's something that I manifested about people they manifest sometimes what's in their heart by their action about what they say and by what they do but leave the judging of the God God knows the heart mark to a name and immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves he said unto them I reason you these things in your heart see Jesus has steadily reading our hearts Jesus is reading your heart this morning whether you know it or not he's reading your heart because some of you you you have in differences toward one another for whatever reason he's reading your heart he knows your heart he knows your heart he also knows the intricacies of God's legal system nobody knows what goes on in heaven like Jesus does he knows he has already satisfied two demands of justice so his advocacy is from a point of strength and righteousness God accepts his sons advocacy on our behalf as part of their divine agreement established before the world began first Peter 1 and 20 who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world but was manifested in these last time why for you and me for our sin he advocate for us that's why he was manifested in John 17 24 father I will that they also whom thou has given me be with me where I am that they may behold my glory which thou has given me for thou loveth me from the foundation of the world that's Jesus in Revelation 13:8 II and all that dwell upon the earth shall worship Him whose names are not written in the book of life of the lamb slain from the foundation of the world our position as the righteousness of Christ is secure because the one who purchased our position with his own blood is also our advocate last verse who was delivered for our offenses and was raised again so that you and I might be justified just as if I had never seen even though I did he has declared that I am innocent regardless the way you say or anybody else say he has declared that we are innocent for the law for what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh God sending us on his son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin condemned sin in the flesh last one what of him above him are ye in Christ Jesus who of God is made unto us wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption Jesus has done the work Jesus is advocating on our behalf regardless of what the enemy says regardless of what the devil brings your way you have been declared not guilty because we have this great advocate that stands before a righteous judge God the Father I hope that this message blesses you and I hope that it continues to help you lean on the fact that we need to hold the spirit present in our lives if you heard that message today I want to give you an opportunity to experience Jesus you can confess him with your mouth we already read the scripture from Romans chapter number 10 now we said if you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that God has raised Jesus from the dead thou shalt be saved if you believe that confess it lord I confess my sin I repent of my sin and I turn to you the only wise Savior you're my advocate I want you to come into my life and plead my case if you do that have you done it you can be saved you can simply call our church three three four two six three three two one five if you come if you committed to all unrighteousness i father we thank you I pray your blessing upon these your people that you would keep them safely in your hand of care now may the grace of God the sweet communion for Holy Spirit
