so sonic 2 i'm gonna speed run it open quotes you know me i'm basically just gonna play the game uh hopefully i don't die too much it's it's not as tough as sonic one i won't be going for all the chaos emeralds i don't think we'll get to see super sonic today uh but hopefully we see the end of the video game it's real good i've been playing this lately just off off stream this game kind of slaps honestly especially compared to sonic 1. so this game has this is the first appearance of tails and he's just kind of there for the whole game he just kind of follows you around you can you can disable tales you can play as only tales but no i will be playing as sonic and tails the classic so here it is totally not green hill zone emerald hill zone there's a whole different word in it how could it be the same thing oh by the way i learned about this yesterday when you have 50 rings you can go into these i know plenty of people probably already knew that and then it takes you to like the the multiplayer bonus game only it's single player which this i'll just show you like one of these but this would have like blown my mind if i had a genesis as a kid it's like oh my god it's three-dimensional uh it kind of controls like though it's cool it's very reminiscent of the lcd mcdonald's game that i had so this is how you get the chaos emeralds in this game oh i had only played this game like a couple times just casually before i i wasn't i've never been like i never had this like as a kid or anything so but yeah yesterday i learned about like super sonic and getting the chaos emeralds i am not doing so hot cool oh nice i got it emerald and even this is this is in the first game too they always like strobe the emeralds for some reason i i don't know why they thought that looked good they do the same thing with like the top of the water in chemical plant zone and it's like it looks like shite why'd they do it oh oh slick i love those like the the 3d things or like the fake 3d i feel like the genesis was all about that [Music] monkey monkey [Music] see tails is a good boy he picks up the rings for you ones that you missed not always though oh okay sure i love all the little secrets it does add to like the replay value i talked about it in sonic 1 as well what the okay all right okay oh massive chain of secrets i have 55 let's do it but actually do i even want to we'll do exactly one more of these oh and sonic music usually slaps too that's like it's like the one thing they tend to not actually up [Music] oh tails i think tails is not gonna be good for this no he keeps just losing rings not enough rings wow and i just get kicked out so if you get all the emma roods uh then you get to turn into super saiyan sonic but uh we will not be seeing that today because i'm going very very fast of course speed run boys yes so yeah like emerald hill zone it's basically green hill zone two but it's all the like weird like technology stages in this game that make it stand out like chemical plant is the iconic one but also like oil ocean every other zone in this game is kind of a repeat i guess there's like wing fortress too wing fortress 2. [Music] oh no i i try to time it so when it cuts away it looks like we're on our way but sometimes i bonk into the wall it doesn't look as good here we are iconic iconic zone yeah this is the one everybody remembers this is the one that you can tell it's like each sonic game has like one really dank level and this is this is it for sonic 2. where it's like just the right mix of not being like a difficult later level and also being like cool as and i really i particularly enjoy the parts where the game plays itself completely i mean i talk but it genuinely is fun it's like it's just brief little interludes like look at that yeah yeah i'm going crazy fast little interludes where you just go absolutely nuts and you don't have to do a single thing you just sit there and watch oh the swarm there's also there's something so like there's something very like pure and like childish and 90s about it where it's like dr eggman's evil technology he's got the chemicals and the oil and the machines and we got to save our friends from the forest it's very pure in that sense it's it's very uh it's nice it harkens back to a simpler time it reminds me of all the like soap commercials where they're like did you know this soap has chemicals in it whoa i don't want to put chemicals on my head yeah chemical plant zone act 2 has one really like the infamous drowning sequence i love those bits they're like dna also this is the part this is the drowning bit actually i i got ahead of the cycle here so i think i'm gonna be fine yeah wow i'd barely even touched the water but uh but then on top of that it's not over though this is how it usually gets here is there's this bit this like very slightly finicky platforming bit and then you're like okay i'm safe and then you like spin dash over here right and then these platforms dump you back in what a what a dick moment oh thank god sonic 1 had a few moments like that where it's just like i'm going fast i'm going fast i'm going fast i'm dead get him get his ass get his ass you know what i'm glad i got hit there i'm glad i got hit because i would have died otherwise all right phew i think that gives me an extra continue it's getting through a level with 100 rings right yeah or i think it's a certain number of points shoot your arrow this arrow always me over [Music] the music is it slaps sonic music typically slaps one thing i like about these underwater sections is tails has his own air meter and he'll just drown i i don't know if there's any way to intentionally get him to refill his air uh i don't know maybe if i stand next to a bubble while sonic is already like satiated then sonic won't like just selfishly gulp the bubble of air but tails just is drowning he just drowned bye we will be seeing your tails i always love how the the point ticking down that sound effect is in the same key as the you beat the level music okay let's grab a bubble first oh tails [Music] tails play it safe here oh god see i i knew that was going to happen but i thought it was going to happen with the drill guy so i avoided it and then that fish came out of nowhere and made the exact same fate to follow me getting the bubble takes you out of the spin animation and makes it so you're no longer attacking so you just get in that scenario oh oh oh that's a secret i did not mean to do that but pog uh yes this boss this boss guys remember this boss oh tails died how are we gonna win he has that hammer actually does have a hitbox but look it's like pathetic it's pathetic also i fell not pro gamer boom all right i'm going to do it check it out 420 no we're going to fun zone baby this is this is like your reward for getting through aquatic ruin is this is this just for points i think the middle one rings or spins the thing oh ring ring ring bar oh lame absolutely lame wait can i pog off of this no well i need to stop saying pog i'm just i'm i'm a high roller baby i spin to win oh jackpot wow holy oh my god game slaps honestly like it's it's fun it's so much more fun than sonic 1 and sonic 1 was already pretty cool i will say there's something slightly off about like the miles you know and like they mankas uh there's like there's like emblazonements of of tales and sonic's faces [Music] the walls and stuff it's like it's like the casino knew they were going to come it kind of reminds me of that like percy jackson bit anybody remember reading percy jackson and they go to that like casino and uh everything's like tailored to them or like everything's like perfectly within their interests also i didn't mean to do this i did not mean to do this i accidentally landed in this okay can i like leave can i i can't leave anybody remember that house percy jackson movie yeah the lotus casino that's the one those tails you i hate tails i've always hated tails i i hate him oh no no tails tails bar bar bar all right yeah we're just gonna loop this until i get more rings yep yep that note is honestly like so irritating to me i don't even know why so there's a skip that you can do on this one and i tried it just like casually off stream i couldn't quite get it to work and sometimes it kills me so regardless of if it helps we're gonna see at least a little bit of weird jank but it might kill me is the thing so it's like after this elevator you hop off lose your rangs and then you like okay i feel like that didn't actually send me very far through the level but sure let's let's let's go with that oh oh oh is that going to kill me what is this yahoo no wait let me live okay i take every day so it's not new years yet for me by the way it's like 7 p.m final uh final hours of 2020. honestly can we not make 2021 a meme no matter how it is i'm sick of complaining about years do it on like christmas and then i postponed that to new year's and then we're not even doing it on new year's but undertale will get its own stream just it's like it's like just barely too long to like comfortably play excuse me huh [Music] i got pinched there that was a pinch moment paulie play the moment when that happened in sonic 1 2 because that happens across all the sonic genesis games idea if it's intentional or not [Music] and you know as crusty as it looks uh these these graphics were quite cutting edge for the time that was like the main selling point of the genesis was wow just look at it you know in a world where the most well-known thing was like the nes or the most well-known video game systems where like the nes and the atari 2600 you go from that to this and you're like whoa oh god look at the lag oh god oh it's still going the game just oh finally just like the game is just chugging oh i thought tails was an enemy for a second he just comes in he's just like hey sonic i'm here again and i'm like oh nice look at this i love all the big like the cogs and machinery that's cute okay every time you go fast in these later levels it's totally different from the feeling you get in like the early levels where you're like yeah i'm blasting around here you're like i hope i don't instantly get killed when i stop blasting around [Music] wait did anything just hit me what exactly was that what hitbox got me there also i wanted those i wanted those i wanted those rings i jumped to get the rings and i hit the springs that kill you i swear i didn't even there was i was like i was looking at the game also i jumped there i don't think we got to see sonic's body like fall down multiple levels though so sad what's better donkey kong country or this i think we all know the answer to that this is still a fun game but come on okay spin dash in to that because there's literally just an enemy up there to kill you that that enemy sucks man the way that's placed is this where i want to go okay for a second i thought tails just like japed me by hitting that button i i can hear tails just repeatedly dying in the background tails is trying his best and that's what makes it so sad i don't remember what this one is either oh my god wait i don't remember this at all wait i don't even remember how to do this oh i see oh no i don't see okay i'm gonna have to re-figure out how to do this i think just hit him from beneath while he's doing that shenanigans spin dash wow i'm what [Music] i i am not sure how to do this oh he's like losing him though oh i see oh weird okay i think i get it it's like each one of the ones each one of the fake ones that he sends out represents one of the orbs that's floating around him i did not replay this entire game in doing now oh [Music] wow nice i i feel like i never truly understood what was happening in that fight but i guess i did it it was spin dashing away no i was so close i just always do it a little bit too early oh yeah actually iconic [Music] uh even though this level kind of sucks get a ring okay or not oh you can spin dash and actually live okay well that's the way to do it by the way if i do get a game over which we haven't even used to continue yet but if i do get a game over uh for whatever reason i was probably a fluke because i would never i would never lose uh then i i will just use oh my god i'll use a cheat to get to the level that i want to those things those things are like glitchy that was weird that looks actually scared me okay i remember that you like fall off in the zone super easily so let's not have that oh it's like damn oh my god what what is this can the fire hurt you or am i crazy i'm not gonna try jumping to like figure it out oh piss [Music] oh my god what the i remember this this is the same mechanic as in uh sonic 1. [Music] i i don't know what's a platform i don't know wait a second i i just started saying it and as i was saying i was like well i know this is a platform at least but no it wasn't a platform it was not a platform but i was just thinking how like visually cluttered all this is so none of that is platforms this is platforms oh god i remember this it was just i can't jump any lower than that i'm just so scared i'm so like hesitant [Music] so where is the like thing it's right there look at that that thing look at that look at it see it with your eyes they put that in the game [Music] that is the worst it's like they hate people with anxiety for this level it's like they're like yeah you're nervous in life you okay okay i'm just on a roller coaster ride here i'd it's um this is like the one thing the one time eggman like just sticks a robot on you and he's not like riding inside it he's finally learned his lesson am i gonna get i got nice oh he just goes he just goes away damn can i go through oh oh damn it not again [Music] is this oh look the helm i'm at the helm oh there's a one up there oh nice wow cool what now is there more of this i don't even remember how this game ends you go to like the egg moon right we go to the death star oh oh that's pog that's actually so sick get him sonic and his machinery reign of terror [Music] oh it's metal sonic right is this his first is this metal sonic that appears in oh god that appears in uh other sonic games or is this like a unique one this is silver sonic oh piss what do i do okay you get no rings for this by the way i had rings when i beat the level it took my rings so apparently i like [Music] yeah i did it i hit him i like the noise he makes [Music] oh that wait oh i just have to like predict is there is there a tell for when he's gonna jump there probably is it's gonna take another continue to like learn it though oh i just have to memorize the pattern wow that's terrible so like here god damn it yeah i figured i could probably hit him while he's skating around there you go that is that's good to know oh it's destroyed holy okay that's the part that that's that's where game theory was like oh yeah dr eggman can run faster than sonic it's off [Music] okay [Music] cool i'm gonna have to use the code to get through oh piss oh piss why do you get zero rings for this by the way yep yep yep yep yep yup yup yup yup yup yup yup yup yup yup yup yup i'm pretty sure i see speedrunners hit it from beneath but let's just let's just like see what it does even i think they like hit him in the ass [Music] maybe oh come on so it's like after he does that he bows his head down oh okay [Music] all right time to enter in the code man i just wish i had known how to how to fight the boss from the very start of the boss okay to access the level select the player has to go to sound test in the options menu and play the following tunes 1965 09 and 17. player will then hear the ring chime and must return to the title screen by pressing start then press start while holding a down to enter the level select menu yeah there we go nice and there's special stage on here too me [Music] now run what's he doing what's he gonna do where is he okay i'm sweating i'm monka essen he's walking death egg's moving really fast outside i mean look at that i guess that's not earth it's mobius so maybe mobius is just really small mobius spins 10 times faster than earth the planet itself spin dashes this music's pretty repetitive too get out of here you egg you're done for oh that's awesome running down running away from the explosion and then he just goes into open space oh right tail saves him yeah wow i like the decision the artistic decision to make this cut scene the size of a like postage stamp that was really artistic by sega really good decision well i didn't have to enter the cheat code many more times we just had to do it once ideally i would not have had to do it at all but whatever probably if i if i had played through the whole game before i did this stream and like refreshed my memory on it i probably would have been able to do it in one go [Music] but oh well awesome game i love sonic 2 this is a classic uh super fun even though it's got issues of the sonic games i've played this is personally my favorite i think so really really fun i'm glad i did it oh yeah give us the splash art yeah hold on can we get i can't even select other music it's just stuck on this oh it's like sound effects hold on wait can we like turn off the sound and get the worm yes i found it oh my god yes i'm cranking it i'm cranking it
