So BOGGED even the winch couldn't save us! WILD new Cape York Track!

look how dark it is the furthest we've got in three hours [Music] is our last digit before the light sort of turns out but we dig in the night if it doesn't work [Music] right folks we are in cape york right now western side of the cape now sean and i had a great idea yeah we decided we'd take a slight detour the day to go fishing look at this there's four days later and we're stuck really stuck at the moment just unhitched a camper trailer we've got broken windshrops over here or even carry me thongs that's how bad it is how many times have we been bogged mate right i've lost count yep we have moved more dirt with a shovel on this trip than i have ever done in my life and we still have to get through one of the longest bongs i've ever seen look at that 100 meter dash and all in the name of catching a saratoga probably don't even know what that is but hopefully we're going to be able to show you exactly what a saratoga is if we ever get out of this pog hole right oh guys make sure you buckle in because this adventure i'm going to say it might be going to be our most wildest cape adventure yet exactly let's get some more recovery we need another extension strap down here folks hope you enjoy it full drive 24 7. this is it let's go mate our journey begins on route to a remote corner of the western side of cape york where we've snagged a once in a lifetime opportunity to chase a prehistoric fish the saratoga a local station has given us access to some secret lagoons at the back of their property if we can manage to get to them as always we've got a capable convoy joining us for the trip including our good mate tony from low 4 off road who knows this part of the world like the back of his hand and helps us get to some amazing wheeling spots in the cape [Music] soon we're off the main road and onto the station itself and as the track gets tighter we can see an indication of what's to come the property owners don't attempt this track until well into the dry season with 40 k's of unknown challenges ahead i have a feeling that this is shaping up to be one heck of an adventure it's really wet isn't it it is yeah we're not even up to the rest of that whoa we're not even uploading stuff yet soon enough our first challenge is up ahead and yeah it's a doozy oh wait do you see this oh no really can we stop here and have a look at this mate yeah because i can't even see the exit it looks sick that right there folks is the mighty holroyd river this crossing it doesn't see more than a couple of vehicles a year and we're going to be the first to try it for the season it's deep it's dark it's soft and honestly i don't even know if this is possible all we can do is let our tyres down get out the recovery gear and hope for the best basically we're doing a little uh stock taking here to find out what can't get wet and what can you good yeah your mum's crackers they're all right yeah right there's water tight yeah everything else hang on i'm gonna pull it down on the day caulking down oh why are we stopping i don't know why are we stopping i don't want to stop it's really soft oh we're filling up there you go good oh i'm stuck oh that was stuck we went already boys quite get the winch we haven't even gotten a third of the way through before the 47 is sunk like a stone through the soft mud on the bottom oh we're flooding luckily jocko's straight on the tools and soon has the run to spooled out ready for a big winch ah my feet are nice and cool actually like lovely look how deep it is in here should we have closed the flaps no they didn't come in the flaps it came in the holes in the pool a lot of holes in the floor i can actually see out the flap turns out that's actually a lot softer i did i just idled in too i should have uh yeah i should have give that a read okay probably all right let's get out of here i think we should mate oh we're we we are down to the chassis like proper look out the window with that thing we might be half swimming at this point but at least we're starting to move forward that soft mud and sand though is really suctioning the car down and we don't exactly have much power on tap left hand down mate it gets deep here gets deep wow oh no right hey go for it oh no call you mate this is date now we're i don't think it's helped oh i'm a sea twit oh yeah must be wet over your side [Laughter] there's like a wall of mud here well this is a bit of a pickle the water is up over the seats the back is fully submerged and we've got to reposition the winch again to try and pull the nose up and out of the mud this time though it's working and we're almost out of trouble all right let's hand down a bit left hand down that's it stop there i'll hook you up that's washed her up inside a bit ready oh pretty muddy yeah we're out of the water but we're not out of the crossing it's back to the rumba [Music] at last the 47 is crawling up the bank now we might be wheeling the oldest and most stock rig here but i've got a feeling we're not going to be the only ones to struggle on this we made it holy heck all right next time put our swags up higher yeah wow that's gonna be one of the softest water crossings i've ever seen i mean we only made it maybe ten minutes tops absolute top before we suck i think it's just that river sand and after the wet she hasn't settled down yet it's all just still churned up we just got straight in there down to your chassis then you get that suction can't get out then you finally get to the bank and it's just pure mud those boys over there they've got their work cut out for us but one of the worst bits is you and i have got wet swags mate soaking wet swags just as expected the tray is basically a swimming pool and the swags well let's just say they're a bit moist yeah i got myself a leaker [Laughter] lucky guy and put seat covers in this car because i am very wet i reckon i'm going to take a nolan's tactic and just try and go slow that river sand is so soft so i just don't want to spin it choco's technique is working a treat here and the d-max is just crawling through oh my he's making it god as easy as i did come on new weapon nice and slow here comes a step up oh that's deep that's deep come on old girl up you get now that right there folks that is a textbook drive jock's got the vehicle out of the deep section and the front wheel's almost on the bank you're doing me proud mate you're doing me proud just back it back it up a little bit and just have another go yes yeah well done come on come on come on yeah good is that the big d-max yeah what a rig and would you look at that jocko is so close to making it here one more punt and he can have this no oh no you're very close mate yeah wow how good is that oh the d-max afraid to say grain we made it look a little harder than jocko just one second before we celebrate yeah yeah it looks okay yeah there's a little bit of mud it smells in here because i'm wet yeah yeah you've done well yeah how big is that very good now that jocko has set the bar on 33s and a factory rear locker let's see what 35s twin lockers and v8 power can do now he's got further than us too much yes yeah there we go it's actually right here yeah oh he's under he's under that's pretty wild yeah it smells good he wasn't there he's so much better how on earth did you get up there sam's made it further than anyone but he can't seem to clear those ruts okay hard right hand down and back yeah that put a wheel here i think that's where i was i think i was over there you were over on this lumpy [Music] we've given it a few tries but the big rig just doesn't want to climb the bank so it's out with a winch right hand down have a draw yeah you'll drive from there oh maybe not my god that was good mate just a little winch to get you up over there right spicy boy this is proving to be one heck of a crossing and for the next rig it's going to be an absolutely massive challenge this is going to test out the water seals on the camper trailer as well as the car that is a lot of water he's doing well nice and slow anything like a boat good drive no stop it there stop it there righto so bailey's just coming onto that river sand he's just sunk straight down just because it's so soft the tires start to dig the vehicle just sits down on its belly it's game over so give him a quick winch and should get him out pretty quick the key in these situations is to have as much gear ready as possible bailey's already got the winch spooled out and timbo's soon running it over oh he's down what happened oh you got water coming in now yeah back seat is drenched we need one more shackle now we want to avoid having to reposition the winch while bailey and the camper are underwater so we're using an extension strap to get a winch position a long way back that's it just a little bit of drive as you do it that's exactly how i felt what he's doing right now once you sort of break through it you're done you're done as soon as you sink in yeah good night irene oh now this is the date [Music] a lot of lights on the dash left hand down look at that [Music] right hand down maybe straighten up we should maybe stop in there before the camper goes under and reset yeah it's up there what we've done right here is just stop bailey sort of before the trailer hits that big dip in there that's exactly where sean and i went down that's why my sleeping bag is spread all over the ground at the moment so what we've done is stopped before his trailer goes into that we'll reset that winch and we'll give him another nice clean winch up through there and hopefully camper trailer scoots on through how good is this cape york early in the season oh i get so pumped for this stuff i know you all think i'm fools out there but i love this all right what you want to do is as you start lynching up here just go a little bit left hand down just sort of climb the bank and just let the winch do a lot of the work here because you're trying to take the whole camper trailer as well with you right oh we'll give it a go with that new position bailly is coming straight up the bank but would you get a load of that high tide mark that's one way to test your seals welcome to the wet feet club i can confidently say you're the first person to drive a camper trailer across the whole book 100 i don't think anyone's ever done that yeah i'd say so i'd say at least at this point yeah and you've got to drive bed yeah the bidding starts now i'll give you 50 bucks for it tonight we'll you've done well you've done really well good okay time for the next contender all right mitch got a copy yeah i got a copy all right what's your plan of attack mate there's a lot of tire tracks um you'll just have to do your best i think i've only got an lsd in the back the front locker is not working yeah copy that copy that work and when you get sort of sort of three quarters bit of momentum and like you said if you're named for where sam is um you'll you'll have a half half a goal getting this i reckon yeah yeah let's give it a run yeah get into it mate get into it easy here's the bit he goes but [ __ ] a buck bugger bring her up buddy timbo is running a torque performance exhaust under the big 79 and man oh man does that thing sound sweet whoa that's it turn tim is so close here but he's just not out of strife yet give it a punch you're gonna punt [Laughter] that was a pucker moment i think tim might want to back out of that one the diesel is coming out of the tanks you can smell it diesel out of the tank and a little bit of weed [Laughter] the boys almost had it there but it's back onto the run but and the d-max remains the only rig to have made it through in its own steam [Music] yeah i got spicy there for a second right oh anthony you got a coffee mate yeah got your buddy well how's this eh you i wanted to show us a couple of places down near the coast and here you are on one of the gnarly or water crossings you'll find in the gate mate how do you feel about this one mate she's a pearl are coming in last i'm gonna have a bit of fun here yeah you are mate look if you make it further than the farm truck which won't be hard let's face it and get up over that little shelf you'll be right and you won't even get wet toes rider man i'm coming in all right good luck mate oh look at it that's anthony's taking the same approach as jocko very slow and steady and he's just making it through that's it [Music] oh that's deep yeah come on oh man that's not a good place to get stuck that tray is well under the water we'll grab that windshield yep wow that is so close this big step up here which is all mud of course he just sunk down at the back but the cool thing is he's got his winch ready the boys are onto it it's like a well-oiled machine yeah look at that that's about the quickest recovery i think i've ever seen the job is on [Music] the water coming out of that wow even with a quick recovery you can see just how quickly water gets into a standard tray once you stop moving but the most important thing is anthony's through and that's well done mate a little less yeah now the camera boys really know how to pick their battles and have opted to go last on this challenge but the big gu has made it to the other side reasonably unscathed and with that we are well and truly into this adventure still we've made it just a couple of clicks into what we understand is 40 k's of black soil country ahead mate have we got that a big billable right here that is this is spectacular isn't it sensational country but i don't know it's up past four i know it's a bit early but a bit early but look we can set the swags up maybe try and dry those sleeping bags a little bit more i want to talk about it have a cold beer a big day mate i've learned a lesson and that's for sure i mean we've done we've done all the big creeks and cake have a little bit more smoking yeah we both learned lesson mods on the top of the d-max that's where it's staying it's not coming back down again look at that yeah it's nice open spot now look we've heard the best fishing holes are much deeper into the property but this billabong right here isn't a bad place to start and i'm pretty sure everyone's going to be keen to roll out the canvas before we get stuck into the real mud tomorrow well mate i'm going to tell you all right the back of this truck has not got any more waterproof that's what yep yep mine's out i'll put it in the sun already make my bum's wet everything's wet oh no mate you're having a ball i'll tell you what though have a look at that over there i know big billabong lily pads i mean crazy now saratoga is going to say i am running extremely low on beers i know it's crazy thing i'm normally on top of this oh yeah right i'm going to put a beer on it yep first fish is going to be mine first fish yep i'll put a beer on that mate all right first fish i'll get my camp cherry out to dry that i do that i might even put my swag up yeah let's go and see if we can't catch a sarah together first fish what a campsite it's crazy isn't it absolutely it's magical this part of the cake i never get too much this western side of the cape no one comes here i know no one comes unreal it's unbelievable [Music] the west coast sees a fraction of the tourists compared to the rest of cape york but if you can't already tell this place is really worth a visit the boys are loving it so far and especially jocko who's living the good life in graham's d-max pretty stoked that the d-max was the only vehicle to make it across the whole road today and didn't get a drop of water inside got a dry swag happy days someone else who came up surprisingly unscathed is bailey and his maverick camper you saw it that thing was half underwater today but you wouldn't tell it it's come out looking good as new with camp set up everyone's keen for a cast and even jock is having a crack so i am a self-confessed terrible fisherman i didn't even bring a fishing rod on this trip just because i'm that bad i drop rods in the water and stuff all the time anyway this is graham's and i just want to prove a point because i don't know how to fish with lures and they're out there doing all their casting techniques and stuff so i'm going to put a hook on this and put a bit of cheese on it and i just want to see if i can catch a fish because if i do they'll never hear the end of it all right back at cop now john clearly has no idea what he's doing with that rod but somehow he's the first to hook up that's a good size saratoga yeah that's a saratoga rod too much sorry that's a beautiful catfish yeah it's a beautiful that's a what you call a cape york barramundi black marlin well mate that is a good looking little catfish and as it turns out this stretch of water is chock-a-block full of them that everybody is a catfish surface catfish i thought that was a toga it looks like we're going to have to push on to a more remote billabong to catch that toga but this has still been a cracking first day of the trip and the only thing that could make it better is a good feed unfortunately for us it's shawn's turn to cook tonight and he's got a feisty one planned all right look this is a thing like we obviously had a lot on the tray beforehand yes and uh it actually worked out well we got covered in water today because we've taken everything off to dry out we've got ourselves a bench space oh i'm still soaked my bed is soaked everything's so yeah i'm hoping that my sleeping bag dries in the next hour it's not going to what i would like tonight for once and you're not going to say this very often to the cape i want something warming something really hot really something just to just to spice me up well isn't it sweating it's funny you say that mate because look i'm cooking a meal that was actually offered in the comments of one of the youtube shows when i actually put it out there just randomly i said look just another chef note out well that's right i just said look other other budding chefs just just come down with a couple of comments and um let us know what i should cook for the boys sure and one that rang a bell with me was the chicken chili wing challenge oh man so i'm talking about making some chicken wings everyone loves chicken wings around the fire you said this wasn't going to be that bad we you he and i did a chicken wing chili challenge once before remember that and i i actually started to loosen it i saw i talked to a dog and thought it can do nice things i woke up a week later and i was in vegas so jocko's got the chicken actually in there if we can get jocko to get the the chicken out yep i'll start on the sauce now that that is a hard thing to make this is where the recipe really comes into its own and look i'm not going to lie to you mate but from generations passed down i'm talking about i have some chicken oh could you guess a beer a beer i was just over at the fridge well it's not that far and you just because i was talking about my elders i'll go and get one i've got one mate i've got one okay [Applause] chicken wings yeah especially hot chili wing challenge is it do you want to let people guess it you okay so you just you get the pan hot i smell yeah no i don't want to smell that yeah that's burnt that stinks now the sauce now this is the base of the sauce everything's a little bit wet that's why the labels are falling off terrible this one here is the old frank's red hot wings the hottest buffalo sauce i could find so i'm just going to put one of those in all of it hang about are you frying over there oh yes i forgot about that this is this is a chili a chili uh oil just don't go too much that's fine that's fine yeah it's always a good night when you can anyway i love you let's put all the this is all of it so i got i've got one frank's hot sauce in there i'm gonna put the second one in obviously that's that's the basis which is look anyone can make that bit that's really easy but now now is where it really comes into my own and this is this is a recipe that's been passed on from generations in my place if you want to grab basically this one here is that tabasco jalapeno especially oh the green one that's that's the one that plays a good thing the green one can do i don't know why i'm not gonna put heaps in though i'm just gonna put just a little bit stop i always say double your sauces down i agree double sauce no regrets you've heard that before double sauce no remorse all right red tabasco it's actually quite hard no you're doing that [Laughter] sauce not even hot but it adds to it trust me a little tiny bit of worcestershire [Applause] all right sriracha we're going a little bit of sriracha did you just go to the chili aisle it's got everything all the sauce how's that looking mate how's that looking yeah it looks like a whole bunch of medium rare chicken at the moment right that's looking good though and what i'm gonna do with the cornflower normally you'd coat the chicken and do it properly in like maybe a ziploc bag or something like that yeah yeah but just this sort of makes it a little bit crunchy this one here this is a jalapeno special he's still going with we're not finished yet mate come on oh that come out fast that's gonna be like you tomorrow that one it will be it if you can ingest it through your nose and it burns your throat clears your sinuses cleanses your palate i'm just going to have one quick go with that i'm out all right doc i'm back mate i'm back on youtube my throat's a little swollen but i think it's just not quite there if you're just i'm joking no i'm not joking mate i think someone's gonna die tonight no you just basically put most of that in i can smell it there's my nose how is it boys it's all right it's a bit mild if you ask me what do you think about that that's not bad it's not bad it's gonna be a flavor i could have been stop that's not that is all the sriracha well there you go now have a go this jocko hold one of these up for the camera mate hold one of these up the camera have a look have a look right mate have a test of that it hasn't got any [Laughter] holy shiesenhauser look at that though this is what when you're doing chili wings any wings really you want to get nice crispy wings and that's the key that's why a little bit of cornflour goes a long way on it oh that's that's good isn't it ridiculous it's brown oh no [Music] so you don't put it all in obviously it actually looks pretty good it actually looks pretty good eh let's put it all in have you got a safety glass now the whole thing is it's got the sauce in here it's going to simmer we're going to make sure that chicken's cooked all the way through yeah that is exactly what i hope for they actually look really good smells so nice smell a bit don't use don't use your senses basically what you want to do is leave this for a couple of minutes oh yeah that is a key we'll set that where it's easy to grab for everyone we're gonna need that let's let that go for a while that's perfect we'll come back and uh we'll get to taste this little delightful i'm looking forward to it i can't even grab my beer holy heck i'll just turn them down this is supposed to look like yeah they're gonna be glowing that's okay that's glowing that's like nuclear and the best thing is they're still a little bit crispy as well it's just yeah they're really a bit of a sauce about them as well i'll eat one of those look donna you can get everyone get getting one of those yeah you're gonna need more than this tomorrow should give a couple of these as well but for now always get some of those barely there we're going to give you one of those i'm actually going to take i know exactly what's going to happen here so i'm taking all that that's all me all right guys this is the chicken chili wing challenge we've all had an extra sauce on top of the wings the time starts now anyone who fails to eat their chicken wing will be relegated to getting the beer so the rest of the crew do all the recoveries here we go here we go get wild all right i reckon i am just about packed for the next trip folks i hope you are frothing on this cape york adventure as much as we were trust me when i say things haven't even started yet and today is an absolute perla not even a chilly afterburn could take away from this view we've heard from the station owner that the track ahead to the secret fishing spot they've recommended crosses about 17 creeks and for all they know the area could be completely waterlogged so we could be in for anything today and that's just about as good an adventure as you could ask for everyone's soon got a coffee on board and gearing up for a big day well last night the swag was a little bit wet in the sleeping bag as well but to be honest it was still pretty comfortable because i was up off the ground i had the stretcher going learned a couple of key valuable lessons yesterday that is to keep the swag for nice and high so i'm going to actually put it vertical i think on the headboard that's my new kind of attack for today so it doesn't happen again after last night's dinner i think it's time to put something other than chili sauce on the table and bailey's got the maverick camp kitchen all set up and i reckon it's only fair to put it to good use better the storage in this bad boy check that out straight up i'm going to pinch those that's good been fortunate enough to have a camper trailer on quite a few trips over the last year or so i'd love to have the accommodation inside there i don't have that but what we do have access to there's a storage on here now sean and i've had a bit of a nasty in the old 47 and a lot of our stuff's got wet uh boxes are falling apart it's a bit of a muzzle over there so we're actually going to commandeer a bit of the empty space inside here of which bailey has an absolute ton so the camper trailer i mean of course super handy but for us a bit of a lifesaver on this trip to be fair because it's got so much storage that we can use everything else just falling out the back of the truck at the moment out here in the middle of the bush so little things but a pantry that is absolute luxury dust waterproof the whole lot just makes things like cooking breakfast out here so much darn easier [Music] graham's over there cooking up brekkie for the boys on the camper sort of treat them a couple of cheeky little hash browns to add to the wraps i know these look pretty good to go take them over to grime get them on our wraps boys come on get it with bricky in hand we're all fighting fit and ready to make tracks and we're doing some last minute mechanic checks before we get going preventative maintenance is super important when you're doing remote touring and that can be as simple as cleaning your air filter checking your oils and your 12 volt [Music] with camp packed up it's time to make a mile [Music] oh mate that was a cracking little campsite one of the better ones we've had chairman tick tick i've got a couple of cherubims sarah tiger not so lucky in the toga department the catfish department will be slightly it's just going to keep getting better though the further we sort of look what i've been told is that the further we go towards what these they're like our spring fed creek system yeah so they sort of run all year round apparently there's a good tiger there but because of this wet season we've had to get there it's very fast it's super full on it's super full on i've got to look at the map make sure we're going the right way yeah can we just push on push on the white sound of that [Music] the track we're following from here on is basically a goat track through the bush and with trees down across the track there's no doubt that we are the first through here in a long time [Music] up ahead is the first sign of that river system we're heading towards there we go we're not here to kiss and cuddle we can see some moisture on the track here so we're just going to give it second gear docker you don't want to hang back on that one mate ryder it's d-max mudbogging time it's a good bit of fun boys get into it eh we'll give this plenty of plenty of herbs i think this type of ground can be hugely deceiving and it only takes a few wheel tracks to pass over it before the mud opens up and starts to swallow vehicles so far though we're getting through reasonably unscathed you can see right there just how much water these grassy sections can hold and up ahead there's plenty more of that soon enough though the black soil has claimed its first victim of the day right oh so we're in black soil country here and the classic things happen where as soon as you take the top off you just sink straight down which is exactly what's happened to the the ranger yeah but because there's so much suction there rather than do yeah you can even see it rather than doing a snatch recovery we're actually going to winch them out just because there will be a lot of force on the bottom of the vehicle so we're just going to hook the winch up to the back of the big 200 should be sweet bailey is soon hooked up but instead of the winch pulling the vehicle up and out of the mud it's actually just dragging it sideways through the muck and there's just too much resistance for the winch to handle this is another instance where having a set of max tracks is just super handy we're putting them under each tyre to encourage the tyre to lift up as bailey winches this helps release the rig from the suction effect of the mud and greatly reduces the load on the witch and you can see it it works like a charm that rut right there shows just how treacherous black soil country can be once your tyres break the surface getting back up can be a real challenge and that is just one of 17 crossings down oh what have we got ourselves into now look if you're wondering why we're going to all this effort it's to try and make it to billabongs just like this at this time of year these bodies of water are pumping with life and they'll all but disappear in a few months and i can tell you it is definitely worth the effort [Music] no one is keen to get stuck in the middle of one of these crossings but by the time sam is heading through the traction is already starting to disappear bailey almost makes it across but he's caught out at the finish as the mud starts to take its toll lucky for him though it's just a short pull on the kinetic rope to get him out of trouble [Music] well that's good that's made it interesting for an old tembo down here wait let's see how this goes awesome plenty of power time [Music] would you look at that the boys have fallen into those ruts left by the last car and the big 79 has sunk straight down to the diffs fortunately they're bogged right near the exit so our plan is to just try and straight winch him off the back of the camper trailer as the 79 starts to creep forward the problem is that the rear of the vehicle is actually deem itself further into the mud creating heaps of drag and sucking the vehicle in further give it a few revs i'm pulling bailey yes this sort of country as soon as you break the surface in black soil you just go straight to the bottom it's actually really hard to wind through as well because as you winch you just keep pulling yourself and opening that track back up so sometimes it's best to put some like logs under or max tracks just to lift the front of that car up which we'll probably do now crazy it still impresses me just how complex these recoveries can be and how bogged a single vehicle can get after other vehicles have driven down the same line so what we're doing right now we've got double line pull off mitts to the camper trailer camper trailer is now going to be anchored to the 200 fingers crossed we've also got a set of max tracks down there as well fingers crossed we don't have to send jocko in because if he gets angry i'll tell you what it'll be game on wow this is incredible the big rig just doesn't want to budge plan two is a no-go we need to go up a tree for our next option we're combining everything from before with a higher winch angle from an extension strap up a tree but again that is a no-go wow that's crazy stuck crazy stuck this winch let's dig it properly i've never seen a vehicle so stuck yeah i i was there for three days yeah well that's what i'm concerned about that's the thing there's so much pressure on that even with a double line pull it's just that's way too much pressure so we need to rethink and i'm thinking backwards i can out of here i mean once he goes backwards we might be able to make another track around here because at the moment it's not quite safe to be putting that much stress that tree's nearly winching out of the ground pulling a tree out of the ground unless we dig all this out by hand which will take us a couple of hours and it's really hard digging actually let's try and go backwards yeah we get tony to come up beside not in this track because he'll go down as well what around anchor to a tree and then pop him out backwards hopefully tony loves this kind of wheeling and look at that he's hit his winch spot like a pro wowzers perfect holy jeep is going to stop us at first we seem to be making headway and the 79 is moving backward but there's just too much of that underbody hung up in the mud this might be digging down in the back that won't actually pop up and it's clear that backwards is not the solution either all right stop there hold it just let's have a look holy dooley this is a bit relentless plan d c i'm not sure what we're up to right now we're going backwards probably ain't going to work so we're going to try and come forwards again but rather than having the maxtrax on a vertical wall which is what we had before got a real nice ramp looking thing here so maybe just maybe he can come up on top of these max tracks and get now it's out despite all our efforts the 79 just seems to be getting itself stuck deeper and deeper in the mud unbelievable not even a meter 20 centimeters there really is no option left but to dig like crazy and try and build a channel for the vehicle to crawl along but we've also got one more trick to try all right it's got a bit of a plan he's a bit of an old bushy trick you take the spare tire off you put it the front of the vehicle with the windshield going over the top that means the winch has to be pulling up can't be pulling down into the bank and you'd be surprised at what a difference it makes even if you just get that much sort of elevation gain to bring the front of that vehicle up and then as you winch the tire kind of rolls forward with you it brings you out but up at the same time it's one of those little tricks you have up your sleeve you'll use it in times of need and this could be just it right now we're throwing everything at this attempt including max tracks under every wheel and a bunch of logs to fill the ruts we put the logs in dug out a little bit to make the angle of the winch recovery less and we're still using the tyre at the front and that's just pulling the nose of the big 79 up tenth time lucky i guess i'm just going to leave it on higher bottle no not in gear yeah perfect no gear and finally finally the 79 is moving that's right in the front up broken that traction the furthest we've got in three hours there we go oh i'm saying that spring hanger oh yeah control arms [Applause] i think we spent three hours for five meters if we're lucky if we're lucky three hours five meters it's a new world record good job thank you well i gotta say that is one of the more insane recoveries we've attempted but we're through just another 15 creeks to get through oh my goodness that's one of the most epic recoveries i think i've been involved in a while when you sit there scratching your head at times thinking how are we going to get out of this if the if that if that one hadn't worked i was out of ideas right yes i'm here but we've got this lagoon we're trying to get to it's it's not getting any closer like it just doesn't feel like it's getting closer you chuck a couple of multi-hour recoveries in the situation three hours five meters that's a new line i'll tell you what the mission is still on the nature of this black soil country means that you can't really be sure if the ground under your tyres is hard or it's hiding a bottomless bog so we're pushing on as carefully as we can soon we're rewarded with another wet season billabong just begging to cast a line we get a few bites out of it so far but the saratoga are keeping themselves hidden so it's back on the road hey [ __ ] you got a copy mate yeah mate got your left and clear i was just thinking obviously i've been driving the farm truck with graham for a while now i've got a list of ideas on it sort of bring this back to its former glory and throw a few parts at it you know but rebuild some of the you know driveline all that just wonder if you guys bears box have the parts but even like an old truck like this like a project mate it might surprise you but absolutely we do whether you want to rebuild your dips your axles your hubs things like suspension or do a vrs seal kit through the old 2h we've got you covered don't you worry about it well mate that's a great thing to hear because i obviously know you guys you know cater for the modern vehicles i've ordered a stack of stuff myself but just for something like this i mean i'd love to throw some parts at this and just you know just make this you know drive it more often and get this project up off the ground and make it a real little farm truck you know one of the beautiful things about spacebox is you know we're out here testing new vehicles against old and and seeing what they all need what they do and we try to offer the you know the sort of parts that you might need every day to keep an old truck like that or a new truck like this on the road heck we've even got shovels for mud mate right spot on rydo when we get back into a section mate i might be uh logging on and uh giving the old farm truck a bit of a birthday i think we're making slow and steady progress through this marshy country but late in the day things take a real turn for the worse as has happened so often today what looked like safe ground has turned out to be a mud bog waiting to happen and once again it's the mitz boys who have gone down and they've gone down hard you know i've seen this dozens of times it still blows my mind that you can be driving along a perfectly firm perfectly fine dry track you break through the crust and you've just got this stuff here it's it's phenomenal little tip though if you ever out in the bush just grab a few handfuls of this put it in a jar because it's a bit like bitcoin when you get back to the city those city folk they love to put that on their faces i don't know why but you pay a lot of money for that stuff there the mitz truck has gone down near the start of this crossing and in this case the only way out is backwards so we send sam and the spares box 200 back around on a clean line to recover them from the a rear bit of a cunning plan here what we're doing is you see you're wondering why the heck they're winching so close together what we're trying to do i'd even come a little bit closer but what we're trying to do here is actually pull this vehicle up as we go backwards we're only going to go that far we're literally gonna go that far reset pull it up and backwards by doing that we're gonna hopefully break that suction and not be just pulling that massive amount of mud out that we did last time all right give it a go stop there winch out get back a bracket we've seen already that the killer is dragging a vehicle horizontally as that just buries it in a wall of mud it's not actually moving backwards which is concerning me but the big rig is stuck to that mud like an oyster to a rock far out and he's just pulling the 200 down with it here we'll need to get a pulley block all right we're going to go for the old spare tire trick again to try and get that suction up if not we'll try double line pull then we'll get the shovels out and get logs out and eventually we're getting out but we only have to get him another meter or so that's the beauty beautiful thing about it it's just so stuck when it goes down that suction really holds the vehicle down so you're not just pulling you know three and a half ton of vehicle you're pulling probably like seven ton a vehicle there because of that suction the black soil the spare tire trick is definitely helping but now we've simply reached the max capacity of that winch next step is to double line pull which dramatically increases the load capacity a winch can handle nah not a hope now that we've increased the pulling power of the winch there's a new problem the 200 can't stop itself from slipping forward so once again it's out with the shovels well the big guns are coming off now hollis jack off the 47. the plan is to get two high lift jacks now both sides that are stuck down in the mud when you use the jack space you dig some holes get some mud out use the jacks to lift the suction and get that vehicle unstuck a little bit so then we can actually try and recover it backwards and fingers crossed that'll work i don't think there's any any other way than a bit of hard work didn't sweat [Music] okay [Music] the biggest problem is finding something hard to plant the jack onto so we're actually using max tracks as a footing for the high lift and look at that we're starting to break the suction that's at the front though the back is going to take a lot more digging [Music] this is our last ditch attempt before the light sort of turns out but we dig in the night if this doesn't work the whole thing the principles are always the same when you're in black soil you need to lift the suction out of that so basically trying to lift that vehicle up if this vehicle lifts even like half a foot yep we're in the we're in the clear alright if you don't know we'll start again for this attempt though we're hooking the camera car up to the back of the 200 for extra stability and we're just going to let the 79 come off the jacks as it winches back your winch master uh shawno you're in charge yeah just a little bit by the way copy that's actually pretty good that's pretty good let's have all those jacks out now and we'll keep winches hang on back just hold there remember the chance here yeah i think so all right boys when you're ready you're good time that's [Music] tim is moving backwards but he's not out of trouble the rear passenger is digging itself down deeper and deeper [Music] you're equally as bogged as you were but we made progress it's on to plan f and this time we're focusing on this stricken rear quarter which we just have to raise if we want any chance of getting the 79 unstuck but now there's a new point of failure that's a lot of pressure [Applause] i've never seen that that's insane well just bolt that back on the 47. doesn't happen to use a cheap olive jack oh look at that oh my god the pile if jack that was on the 40 uh he's a banana now yep um yeah we've never seen that happen i've never seen that it happened slowly too this one it shows you just how much force is keeping that 79 down it's that suction of the black soil we keep going on about it but until you've actually been stuck in black soil you don't want to trust me don't go i actually want to put the question out to you guys what is the most stuck you've ever been i reckon this would be uh number one for timbo yep um this is right up there for me because we still don't have an idea other than just keep digging until we find hard ground dude we've gone through everything it is literally get on the shovels and just do around and just dig until someone gets tired and when you finish yes give the shovel to someone else we just keep doing that then we all get into some of the other vehicles and we leave this one here until september okay this adventure has just gotten pretty damn real we honestly have no idea if we're going to be able to get this 79 unstuck we're running out a lot and what lies ahead is kilometers of country like this if we can actually get moving again are we gonna get out of this one will we catch that elusive saratoga folks you're just gonna have to tune in next time to find out i'll let you in on a secret though things just get wilder from here don't miss a gear mate get it get it again we've got
