[Music] [Music] [Music] like what I'm excited about and I'm just gonna whack the old VMs on yeah there we go what I'm excited about here is that at Lake Caroline yep the high river track is quite defined down through there but if it floods you can't do it now let's see house down here told us that we can run a new track just off to the eastern side follow a tributary down this already get stands with Madigan line and we'll be the first to ever do it hasn't mean a proper track after this I represent proper track unreal if we can do it that will get us a meddigan lon we're starting here at baton Hill camp yeah just in my opinion an absolute cracking place it's right places that really buy this if you ever get a chance come here to pack mule folks but for now for us poor little fish you hear the Pope will call oh yeah we are that's the Holloway that's a long way right then qaa across yep so High River track it's one of the most iconic tracks in Australia folks honestly if you get a chance put up on your bucket list for us we're not gonna settle we're just doing one of the hardest tracks in the Simpson Desert we're gonna make it harder we're gonna punch a new line from Lake Caroline all the way down to the Madigan line I'm super excited on the Hay River let alone in this new traction or none so might get me all right well I'm gonna sit down have another brew baton he'll camp is a starting point in Popeil corner is our end goal and to get there we're gonna head down south down the hay river track but stopping off at Lake Caroline from there we're going off the track to push our own alternate track that run parallel to the Hay River for some time and eventually we'll rejoin the Hay River track head riding to the Simpson Desert to PO pills corner where Northern Territory Queensland and South Australia mate this northern part of the Simpson Desert is absolutely stunning and the landscape resembles a wild west movie with as rugged red rocky outcrops and vast plains that stretch for as far as the eye can see to travel through here is a real privilege but you need to get a permit from the central Land Council before you start your trip this is wild and remote country out here to do your homework and figure out what supplies and fuel you're going to need for the size of your vehicle and group generally it's about seven liters of water per person per day we've done a lot of preparation to get to this point so we're ready to head south and hit the hay river track sean-o there's a sign here on my right-hand side made it says hey River track what do you reckon I reckon right go for it never done this one before so I'm pretty pumped to give it a go it really is recommended that you don't take on this trip alone and joining us on this trip of course we've got Brad McCarthy and Ben from max tracks now these guys are driving one insane chop 200 series 6x6 vehicle and up next of course we've got stood up from wholesale automatics now he had a four and a half five thousand kilometer journey just to get here and of course he took every single back road in Victoria New South Wales in Queensland just to meet us here at baton Hill up next it's Andrew Borden he's 79 series youth he absolutely loves her motor area touring and this will be his first time across the simpson desert and lastly our convoy with a very important job of carrying a lot of our supplies of fuel and water is Russell Stewart from Continental tires I just absolutely love remote area Turin it doesn't come more remote than the Hay River track I've always wanted to travel down here and start this track I'm pretty excited [Music] now it's late April and the ground is as dry as a bone so the progress is fairly straightforward but it's not always like this just thinking to myself as I was cruising along here in about eight years since I last did the Hay River tracks but it simply couldn't have been more different to how it is now cast your mind back to around about that 2010 mark it's when the Simpson all this area out here got a massive amount of rain and it just coincided if when I wanted to do the high river track because that shorty back then and I've never encountered that much mud in my life my entire life it was truly one of the most epic trips I've ever done it's great to get to come back and see it here at normal years so I'm really looking forward to doing the Hay River track as it's meant to be done not flooded [Music] Shawn I got a copy yes roommate but a bit of a milestone up here mate here what's that able to get your VMs yeah there we go is still the track yeah old Tropic of Capricorn you wanna jump out and get a fighter yeah I wouldn't mind actually mate it's that's cool I look it's the same old sign or a river the old Tropic of Capricorn might go for us really only Marcus starlings track it does we've got a long long way to go so I'm and I grab some quick photo I'll take it if you like yeah and then we'll live on wooden one mate then it's been worn out this is all-time near before we go too much further I want to show you guys something and it's certainly not a rusty old sign well I'll introduce a new part of the team the new new on camera car now it's a TD 42 Ness and betrayal it's 4 inch left 35 has got drawers and kick-ass 12-volt system and it's geared up to do remote area touring and also to be at home on the tough tracks and you're gonna see a lot more of this beast on forward Direction DVD so keep an eye it because it's one heck of a rig [Music] out here you soon realize the scale of things huge distances between waypoints and places of interest and it's easy to drift off looking out into the distance but you can't get too complacent driving around here because you really need to look out for washouts and branches that could stake your tyres or damage your vehicle now and here you've got a lot of mogul wood an iron bark this stuff really is as tough as metal and it cuts through the sidewalls of your tire like a hot knife through butter and what this is a start over the track we're gonna try and forge yeah mate so she's a bit of a detour the idea I believe is that during wet seasons out here when this part of the track is really really bad this will provide a bit of a higher run through yeah that makes sense it's hard to imagine this place under water but it does happen I've seen a first air mate with some it's a sight to behold [Music] that's right have almost made it to Lake Caroline and it's here that we can start to forge the new track that's all I can we subpoena have a quick look at black Caroline what does it on what is every one side this is a good idea mate together that's true one feature and nice blue like a couple of cams here so it beside it I think it'll be very similar to that might pina coladas few coconut trees not too many though well what do you know there's certainly no bikini babes splashing around in the water no deck chairs coconut trees or even a little bar with cold beers hey boys on it two things to proclaim the first of which what are you reckon about this is a campsite pretty pretty bloody good if you ask me summer ready I could see ourselves pitching camp and having a fire having a cook up well that brings me to point number two my good friend ain't know what area someone's gonna have to go back to the river and get some wood all right mate unless you got a burst of spinifex there's not much out here we're still gonna hug the edge of the lake just in case it's still boggy in the middle that's a great tip for anybody who comes out to the outback and sees a dry lake don't just drive out onto it take a walk and look at the middle because usually you'll find a really thin layer of dry clay that's hiding a lot of boggy mud underneath you drive into that in your vehicle we get so stuck you might even lose it back never believe a lake has water in it the river has water in it alright and this is us right here in the middle of the lake what a cracker but the good thing about dried up like sand salt pans out here and make for a very comfortable Drive on the edges because it's so smooth and flat and it also makes a great place to camp on as well all right a couple of things but I have a love-hate relationship with when it comes to the desert number one fly veils item that the half-life is ahead of gear to the environment is unbelievable and I just can't operate without them you can see everyone's wearing we've all gotta fly veils on and their next level so if you do come out bring yourself one of these ain't cost much now the bit that I love campsite perfectly flat ground it's not gonna rain tonight conditions are sublime little bit of cloud cover that will blow over so tonight I'm going back to absolute bare-bones to set up nothing more swag on the ground well it's that time of day it's time to roll out the swags and set up camp Brome myself and Russell will be sleeping in swags tonight while Brad Andrew and Stu they've got fancy rooftop tents either way it's gonna be absolutely superb camping and what a cracking evening is turning out to be here at Lake Caroline the one thing you'll definitely notice out here is the huge skies and Graham well he's on to it with his camera a question I get asked all the time is going around Australia get on that for driving a lot more what sort of camera should i buy in order to capture all the memories out there and make great photos well I'm gonna run you through my three choices really quickly first and foremost and it definitely is first you fine folks look phones have come of age they're amazing so easy to use they do everything and they also take ridiculously good photos if you're getting into photography just a beginner you just want to capture things like that scene out there campsite your phone is your number one go-to I use my phone all the time now I'll just put that away if I'm not using my phone I used my little mirrorless camera these things are the bee's knees they're fantastic people that have got into photography and want to take things a bit further you can change the lens you can different lenses on there and when you pack them away they're so light and small you can literally throw a body a couple of lenses and a flash and a backpack and away you go then you want to take it next level I've actually borrowed this off Festool photographer Dino of course this is a full-frame professional camera pros and cons of each okay define as you know the photo quality isn't fantastic but the pros are straight to the Internet straight to Instagram straight to Facebook you can message it to friends you can send it in an email so quick and easy these little things as far as I'm concerned there are no negatives the it's one of the best cameras you can buy really lightweight fantastic quality you can upload it to your phone straight away there are no negatives this best photo quality you'll get big and heavy and expensive and you still need to know how to take photos when it comes to photography it's not the camera it's the person using it but I tell you what you wanted my one recommendation get yourself a little mirrorless camera get out here and use it now you might have seen the setting on at the back of the convoy here now this one here of course there's one Russell's driving has got a lot of our supplies on it you see it's pretty important that we have enough fuel to do this trip it's about 650 caves but it's not of course I like driving it's been pretty hard to run a lot of soft sand so we need a lot more fuel than we usually use on the road so we've allocated about 200 liters per bigger vehicle at a 79 and stuff like that they chew a bit more fuel but d-max has got about 150 liters allocated for it and I reckon we'll come back with with 300 liters that as well because it doesn't use much fuel at all with water we've gone about I think it's about sort of 5 liters per person per day but we've actually got a lot more than that we're gonna take in consideration cooking and washing hands and stuff like that I've actually got a shower on my so I've got about 100 litres on my seven-line just the more on the line so a bit of trip preparation I suppose you'd say seems to desert is no doubt a great place to come but you're really going to be prepared take enough fuel and water with a little bit extra another Tommy your life [Music] once the Sun has dropped in the fire is going it's time to sit back and relax with a beer but not for too long because I'm cooking tonight looking out boys I hope you got strong stomachs that good Z so simpson desert no doubt one of my favorite places on earth and i reckon the best part about it is the candy soon as it the Sun goes over those June's everything goes a little bit red and I reckon it's just one of the best place you can camp picture swag any like does it all I cook a bit of a special meal it's an old favorite of mine in fact I've never cooked it before but if you follow me into the waco I'm gonna grab some chicken out cuz tonight it's chicken Bosque Ola now what you'll notice one of the really cool things about coming to theirs it makes you think a bit outside the square yeah what I've got here it looks like a bunch of mess in a couple of bags but here I got some chicken I've actually cried that before I left time I actually cry back to bunch of things because we're out here for a couple of weeks are we gonna throw I feel is probably one of the better cuts of chicken you can get some toys a little bit of oil in here like chicken thighs look at this a pasta pasta yeah so I'm good I've got your one on yep yep dad I get warm at least inside it's good what I want to do is cook the chicken first oh wow yeah more chicken you Mike so what's the planning you just cut that ice all you want to do is fight these brown the chicken off well as you can see there's a favour to do so form from those thighs so I'm gonna get all that chicken tuck it over there yep keep the juice in the pot because that's that's what we're looking for here and then I'm gonna put the onion the garlic the other bits and pieces that make your boss Keola shuck that straight in put a bit oil in the smell of juicy thighs little garlic vinegar which man oh my god love the best of this so that's half a jar so half a jar of garlic the old mushrooms blasting pigs actually took no chances I went stripper to my local supermarket and got the old bacon already diced so it just comes actually fries our little game studies I froze it yo kept it all nice that is perfect look at that sizzling why and then right in stride it nice that they get that really hot we're gonna do right now while you do that yeah take them straight up and I'll put the fettuccine into though yeah that's hot settle down add bacon garlic yeah and mushrooms and onions holy okay you could have anything with that that's a good bite that's not nice and brown now you got the bacon infused with garlic with the onions and mushrooms now it's time it's like a bit of cream in boys a little bit yes Chuck that other one in the basil II just want to get that all mixed in that's what's next man all right chicken yeah introduce the Flies to the cream exactly right mate yeah this is a bit that magic is what there's a lot of do that's but that's nice that's good juicer I just go gentle here slightly introduce them they go all at once we go up here yeah I mean just if you if you die be silly just go gentle there you go boss got a bit of basil here uprising this is a little test to see how cracking works all right Oh cut that up no that's gone straight in like that that is a typical spoonful yeah smells good smells really good right put the lid on put the lid on Paul you want to do that yep we're straight on honestly I bought it just around hit the red corner free in Maduri it's actually coming back home that's a lot of food watch the pasture if you could yeah got this I got this Wow whoo the smell on that right path to go there dude good meal this is a pasture off the ages 22 scope so a bit because if it sticks to the landcruiser do you mind if I call the boys call the boys in get him get him served up pretty soft I might get their lives in that's it there go boys all right little bit of galley bread - guys we got a peanut out on the cove around we'll move around got farmerson yeah next look you don't have to drop it when you come to the Sims and do a bit of prep when you before your life and you to be enjoying a Basquiat oh I reckon 20 record fellas oh no I don't like that salts like that I'll take that let's get it on the foil in the crab get down to the wire and get air loops around this it's day two of our trip and we're here at the very dry Lake Caroline preparing ourselves for another day behind the wheel a strong southerly wind came in camp last night and it made temperatures drop down to below seven degrees I've run out right inside here we've just got the tail end of Lake Caroline which if you can imagine after a flood would be absolutely massive body of water which then feeds into the Hay River and this is a really wide point of the hey reviewed almost we call it a floodplain of sorts so when it does flood out through this way and you know you get a bit of water through here and almost cuts off this section of the Hay River tract it's not a very big section but it almost cuts it off and that means the high river track can't be used as an all-weather track your idea of us finding or making an alternative only just a couple of kilometers over is that that is a higher piece of ground doesn't flood as much thus if this area is flooded we can get in on this site on my left-hand side it could matter the high river track will be an all-weather track that's the idea behind this let's see how we go when we start turning left off here and pushing through the bush but win or lose make it or not this is exactly what I live for all right we picked up an old fuel drum put on the back of the 79 here the reason for this is I'm going to take it off a 79 sit it here put a couple of stickers on it and that'll um I guess markers start of this track mate that is a very fitting track market exactly right start at the track and therefore somehow anyhow declare this track is open to the landcruiser so this is it we're gonna spear off and create a new route for the traditional owners they've given us permission and have warned us it could be very slow going due to the terrain out here as soon as you start to forge a new track I get super excited just go and we're now on the four drives been before or again it's gonna be very pretty heavy going to I don't really expect my arm is gonna yeah but I love doing it this is my bread and butter I love doing this sort of thing so yeah follow me heading to off the Hyde River track inside the forge our own track just looking on the VMS here and in front of me tributary of the river by vehicle tracks very very value but I think yeah you can see between the gems I reckon this because as good a spot as any to head in this sort of spinifex country can be really hard going it looks seemingly flat in the surface but under all those spinifex there's lots of potholes and ruts it can really catch your way out yeah the spinifex doesn't help I've try to avoid those clumps where possible she's pretty open in spots you doing back there Brad you know 60 you'd be right with you are you suck I'm talking to you straight up yeah and I don't know good snore through thank you and ER give me some hope just like a fisherman road that came wait knit again goodness gracious it's not only gonna ask you Russell the other thing you really have to be concerned of out here is driving through this sort of Margar wood country it's a mogul wood an iron bark can literally be as hard as steel in front of a is it a sand dune up in front yeah my little sand dune I'll try and find a way over that I should be good right there will be a bit of a challenge I reckon yeah yeah yeah I'm a crack at it see how we go okay it's time to tackle with June and Graeme's into it it really is a challenge out here to be the first vehicle in the convoy not that hard tell grey on that you've got to really try and use enough momentum to get up and over the June but at the same time you don't know what's up in front so you don't to cause any damage no dramas boys come on up yeah it's Brad's turn and the B 6x6 now as you can see this is a true and look at that and made it over with ease now nectars mean the big 79 listen to that thing go whoops it looks like I haven't quite given it enough momentum to get up the hill that's kind of embarrassing the 1st and June of the Simpson Desert no Bugalugs over here doesn't quite make it yeah Sean I was bringing that guy again thanks for the encouragement you see there's that dog tag at the top off of me all night yeah it's all just seen all right a little bit more Mambo look at that easy does it back in the game now old Stu dogs not hanging around he's seen me not give it enough momentum there's nothing to make the same mistake into a Mike at 79 series of Andrews is a real beast it's running the same Starbound module that I am and it's got loads of power should make this easy we've done the same as me mate that's all right have another go but if you blokes had more don't you just drive love it all right Andrew second attempt and he's not hanging around get into a minefield that sand is starting to get super soft where Phoebe that won't work right Russell you first said June and the Simpson Desert mate good luck haha nice Drive mate just the right amount of momentum the good news is you've only got another 1,100 dunes in front of you how much fun is this another little journey or not legal give us any problems but I'll try and pick the best way through we don't exactly know what's on the other side of the journey so especially when you're the first vehicle over sand dune it's really important to back off as you get over that tip lucky gram did back off in this instance because there is quite a steep drop on the other side of this journey here comes the big six five six okay how easy it climbs over that June nice work Brad alright it's my turn in the big 79 you know picked the right gear and I've got a little bit more momentum the last time gonna be the laughingstock of the whole convoy again to Byrd shoes not hanging around either nothing but sky good drive make just the right amount of momentum but if a little lip off the top there early in Russells go in the bog stock 79 he's really giving those 83 tires a workout oh just not enough momentum in this instance back it up and have another go that's a good thing about the desert you don't always have to make it up the first time the last thing you want to do is cause damage to your vehicle you made it look easy that time around mate well done this sand dune is deceptively steep ah so close mate I wasn't worried if it the our grains got the line sorted he's backed up to give it another go really bumpy like you can't really hit it too hard never stopped me before and this time you can use more momentum but it's not hanging around this time go Graham the teammates can't do it soon I reckon you're gonna struggle like a big-time mate the airborne at the top he makes that drive look super easy little red dust mite what's a lot softer than I thought but I think I'm taking the top of it I reckon you be fine we're out in the big 6x6 it doesn't look like he's not quite enough momentum oh that's a lot of sand a vac you go mate on his second attempt I see a little bit of wet sand around one of his rear tires it's worth Gideon to have a look at anything that looks a little bit different especially when you're so remote like in the simpson desert I just noticed in my vehicle that a lot of wet sand around this toy makes me think there was moisture so I don't have a quick look at it I think just a bit of water's coming out of the water tank and wet it but you always want to be super visual on these sort of things eating it looks a bit wrong usually is in this case no dramas whatsoever just better wits in just coming from the overflow of the water tank that time Brad's made it look easy all right I'm up next in the 79 series and I'm not hanging around I'm straight into it third gear low range a lot of right foot into the studio he's absolutely loving is sort of driving there's no hanging around for him Andrews up next and have a listen to that vehicle the big orange popular back there 79 makes it sound so good and Russell's up next and it really goes to show and with a basic stock vehicle but just a set of tires on you can really take it to most places in Australia man this spinifex out here I tell you what it's just such an awkward shape and it's like driving a boat in sloppy season suppose you can't drive fast it's just really lumpy and quite uncomfortable it's not the first time I've had to do it so when I'm forging a track like am right now caught up trying to avoid the spinifex clumps as much as possible it's been a fix country the other day but it's Ronnie Bazaar sensation slow and steady wins the race like a little Bankia guys I don't hey I'm gonna go get on this but I'll um I'll have a tackle at it and hopefully it's nice and soft might and get up and over I like this a musical step up is an awkward little challenge if it's David I thought that's that guy Grammys money to Cory's front end up but he's got hung up at the rear yeah you thinking you're stuck man well he someone made some sort of I don't know orange colored board that had traction on it yeah oh my god anyway come and get me we could drive mate we can drive now you're probably wondering what those little metal spikes are Brad setter max tracks well you see he's developing a new prototype easy out here in the desert testing them with us [Music] that's better leave them there looking to give the game away just yet but as you can see for yourself they work incredibly well we do look at that piece of cake we've decided to leave the max tracks in place because actually for me a nice little ramp as you saw that was pretty easy put the max tracks under the vehicle I think the key for that one wants to dig it out a bit of that sand and soon as the vehicle got up on toys max tracks such as he was off the bank and he got out pretty easy so we actually gonna leave them here and actually give him enough traction to get over once one vehicle goes over I reckon this will be like a highway you see when you get the first second even third vehicles up you lock the top off this lip make it a lot easier for the rest of the vehicles in the convoy [Music] it's bumpy little stop yeah a lot of sensual we're going here either up ahead grams struggling to find the momentum he needs Oh close mmm driving sand dunes in the simpson desert can really be a catch-22 you see a one hand you want a lot to momentum so you make it up the soft sand but on the other can usually find it has lots of lumps and bumps the start of these sand dunes if you hit him too hard he actually could pause breakages in your vehicle no I strive right that was that's pretty soft at the top while looks at it now for Brad in the seats wheeler oh yeah look at it go but he too is struggling to find the right amount of momentum there - couple more wheels Brad you got to keep him on the way to that big six by teachers probably over five tons well okay now he's not holding back have a go that yes you seen how is done and he's not holding back either go on I don't know what that was do we have another go mate that's a lot better Mike and you made it look easy too gloria days as the combination of good driving motoi pressures heaps a grunt floor it is I think Russell's biggest problem was he didn't have wheels on the ground long enough to get enough traction no he's not gonna get over this without breaking something so it's out with the max tracks and see if we can claw him up nice and easily look yeah easy that works yeah it doesn't stop fingers next one waves in an ocean yeah mate can you see where I am sitting on top of this journey it's a funny spot the park I got to come plane mate I was thinking about the Birdsville pub I was thinking about a cold beer and I've just cooped at night I'm bummed I can say that mate look I'll come up there and I click on your blog too and we might chuck some extracts under that thing it's probably the easiest way to get me out of here I can go forward I think let's just do that and let's not talk about it again whoa all right just right on top of the journey sometimes it turns to be a little bit steep and you're parked right on top of them doesn't matter how capable the vehicle is in the sand it will just go down as far as I'm concerned you just wouldn't come to the simpson desert without a set of max tracks on your vehicle well as you can see off I've gone all the way to China here done well done well I think they came when you do get Bob like this is just a nice toy that's what I did might get it right down that's all I did yeah I just thought no cuz I was creeping forward you think well maybe maybe maybe and then there was a park they were able admit wasn't gonna like right now it's in the middle of the day and the sands at its hottest this means that it's also added softness as well you very much you got a copy back they Sean oh yeah got you mate mate it's getting that time of day what are you reckon we try and get over this June see if we can find something out in this spinifex country yeah my don't you this isn't between Provost dude whoa strewth something tells me I ain't gonna get over this journey one try now looking forward it's actually jeez that's intimidating all right I'm gonna take me both hands on the wheel bye come on oh yeah go girl he's made it look easy - look at him wow it's actually hits it is boggy but it's not too bad this actually looks like some nice campsite to me other side I'll let Brad get up first yeah that's a good idea because then you'll have something the winch off [Music] this is good country isn't it [Music] how much fun was that like being semi nine just cruise through another Judicial Appointments Tommy maybe but I can see a bit of high ground over here that looks reasonably flat it's gonna poke my nose near never look this could be care for the right well it looks like we've all conquered our last sand dune for the day and as that Sun starts to get low in the sky it's time to find a good place to camp and this place well it looks as good as any nice and flat and nestled in between two sand dunes Oh strewth Thank You mr. Linux welcome to paradise boys look that night is pretty spectacular as far as I'm concerned it doesn't get any better than camping in the Simpson Desert especially this time of day the sun's just starting to set and everything goes that really deep red you got the fire going burning a few pieces of Mulga wood a couple of cold beers in your hand and having a laugh with mates well it simply doesn't get any better [Music] waking up at here in the middle of the Simpson Desert just has to be added to everyone's bucket list if you ask me the sense of remoteness and freedom is absolutely amazing [Music] by early morning in the desert it's just I don't want to get all romantic and stuff but it's just funny magic you know I'm getting what you're told that's special it's just it did you did you hear anything last night nothing at all like this it's just it's always eerily quiet you get up really early in the morning around here there's no birds it's just nothing different for I come from I just think it's got to be that simpson desert has got to be put it's not hard it's not hard it's got to be under on but it was our big talks to get out a big fire gun I think what people don't really comprehend is just care about it is that he you know I went for a walk when even the senior boys stayed all right now I would probably only the first people stand on it he hasn't years old to be done right what I think we did a day is continue pushing south and try to push a strike through as far as we possibly can yep and then just see how we going for time there's times playing on us a bit and then we might have to push back onto the high yep and head on down south from her daddy till we can play then yep I don't assume this is some of the best country with drive-through - it's so open yeah - bit wobbly on the old spoon effects exactly at our coral as suspension and stuff like that but otherwise she's pretty aging gone for getting the spoils until you got across a Joan but now I'm looking forward to another Big Daddy might it's time to make a mile we've still got a load of this track to push through and then reconnect with a hey River and on towards Pope Al's corner good-sized Hill for goodness sake I think the further you go south into the Simpson a bigger the sand dunes get and that's really evident right now try an easy way up this and see how okay these dunes are not only getting bigger and more frequent but the vegetation is also a challenge to navigate a path through it's just a little lip at the top and I've knocked my mantle I think to be fair gray and probably has the most challenging drive out of all of us because he's up the front he's got to find the best route right now at the ground and came up cautiously in case of any sudden drop-offs the top of the ridges once Graham's dummies bit we can all learn from his drive neither follow suit or give it more momentum we can also get the word over the uhf there's any hazards to avoid another sand dune looks a little bit soft I reckon so second gear low range and just stand on a picnic in my opinion the number one mod you can make to any vehicle is not so much a mod but to make sure your vehicle is in great health the second most important mod I'll have to say would be suspension a conservative two inch lifts suited for Turing's perfect gap here and that brings me up to my third point tires are extremely important out here and while it's fine to run one spare out here I really do recommend to but this sort of a remote area tureen especially you're going to venture off the beaten track I think you'd have to agree despite being a bit bumpy this detour it's just nice to get off a track see something a bit different do something a bit different cross country and I just can't believe that we're probably the first four drives that come to a year it's always so you never know he had a fine even when the first human mate not just for drive this is true at least for quite a few hundred years anyway another one of your boys up and over you'll the revs as you can hear here we go grams up first and he give it just the right amount of momentum to get up and over good drive mate up next is Brad in the big six by six now you see exactly what Graham's done and he should find it no issues whatsoever a lot of things I noticed yesterday I was struggling a lot when we started heating that June country cuz I've had my tires rolling at about 26 psi that seemed to be pretty good behavior the track as soon as you started hitting the Jones still wasn't enough to give up our close turn so now I'll put the tire pressures down and as you can see I'm just in second gear there's not not even giving it that much and I'm just gliding over that girion like it's nothing I've gone down to about 18 pair so I stopped taking you know what seven psi out of those tires and it's just my driving so much C's yeah not to mention I'm using less fuel now - I can feel he was not working as hard I'm not having several goes at Jones soon as we get back onto that favor in the track I'm probably gonna put them back up to about 25 psi again there's a sharp left-hand turn at the top of that June you can't give it too much momentum we're also gonna get off the track that's it Andrew plenty of right foot make and it makes easy work of those big turns have a look at how soft the sands getting you can see that by the amount of sand being turned up through those tires and Russell from the rear of the convoy is doing a great job well done mate well I'm having an absolute blast out here but like a lot of things in life times got the better of us and we are gonna have to call it on this Overland track it's definitely possible to push this through it's just the time one allow it for us so we're gonna let the baton Hill boys know and hopefully they'll follow our wheel tracks no problem at all by the time you follow those six vehicles will tell them and hopefully they can finish what we started for now though we're gonna hang a right get straight back down to that hay river track and continue south which is nothing to complain about well lads it looks like this will be the final June before you get back on the tracker I never like to give up on a plan but Graham's right look at our schedule to stick to and we don't want to risk running out of supplies which could easily happen to run over schedule and then something goes wrong with another bit double whammy here's Brad we'll make it look super easy we're all aware that the fog is ticking and we need to get a move on and try our hardest not to get bogged chuck some sand up that thing your friend goon doing it HPV in the last race before we get back on the height good work guys we got here we got here the MS says we are back on the main highway I'm just gonna check for traffic I think we're clear bit of a shame that we've finished that that was a lot of fun I was enjoying it I think we still got a fair bit of this track to go and I think the end bits are quite slow and bumpy so careful what you wish for it's funny though when you come for that cross country stuff back onto the high it feels like oh all right it really does doesn't Queensland you blokes you want to chuck some diesel in these trucks before we get down to my fellow yeah better weight redistribution of wine would be great all right let's pull up and we'll do just that this right here is camp 16 on the Madigan line or the junction of the Madigan line and the high river track the tree here is where old sessile Madigan these camels in his party nine men in 1939 camp for the Knights the blaze true they left behind we aren't on the Madigan line of course we're gonna continue straight down the high but the Madigan one of the probably the one of the tougher tracks why next to do mate Lynne and Frank have been down they've been down their losses ladies awarded due to the poor bladders design terribly if you up you guys got throat let us know if you didn't for us if I don't get out of these floors pretty soon yeah yep we are gonna get eaten self key concepts like it I put Sean from Sean oh in my opinion it's a good idea to try and get the fuel from your dairy cans into your fuel tank as soon as you can that keeps your center of gravity good and makes driving in the desert a lot easier feel vehicles up the injury's got a great little tip that I reckon in front you I didn't think about this always thought you get a lot of dust around the top of you you're Jerry can just to try and be careful that's probably not good enough is it no it isn't you look honestly you don't to get any of this stuff in the fuel so the best way is to get rid of it once that solution you got in that's just white spirit so we're gonna get rid of all of this residue here so there's no chance of getting any of this in there after we walk in the process is here we go we've made some great time cruising down the rest of the High River and onto the French line we're making good progress towards Popples the sand is getting softer and softer in his midday Sun that is soft boys [Music] I think just my that right only gasps my that you've always gone back there we were doing pretty well until suddenly and recedes down I'm stuck voice you stock Android yeah right good improper nobody's loose yeah we caught me at might um what do you reckon snapshot yeah sure we've snatched it out if you if you can get back up [Music] he's gonna try and reverse reverse up there Andrew good luck with that there's any shackle that I put on the vehicle and keep it on the vehicle especially going on these corrugated sort of stuff in the outback always took a cable tie you need to hold the pin of the shackle in because over a lot of different corrugations is literally just unthread and you lose your shackle so I'm gonna put a little cable tight and every time I need to get to it I'll just cut it off put a new one on Cowell types of teeth and I'm not want to be caught within Andrews right on the ridge so this should be an easy than plug forward on the snatch I've also got the benefit of gravity on my side so I'm gonna take it really easy here thanks mate the old humble snatch strap slave today again you know I wouldn't be caught without one of these always keep one of these in the vehicle I've got to say it's probably the most versatile better recovery equipment you can have and even if you travel solo have one of these because if you do get stuck you'll be able to get someone else to help get you outside always carry this is the first bit of recovery kit that's goes into my full drive when I do any trip first up we've got Russell and he's not holding back good work mate it's crazy along the edge of the Salt Lake here now when I was there back in the floods this was virtually a no-go zone you could get across but you couldn't get down the way we going right now you to come a long way around I'll tell you what it was a different environment for us though it does mark the end of this part of our trip we're gonna head now down to private corner which is a pretty special spot because it's where South Australian Northern Territory and of course Queensland the board is all me so you can sorta spread yourself over it and being a lot of different parts of Australia all at once and it makes your time zones go all crazy so I think the boys and I'll head down there right now have a look at it and that will probably be the end for us and of course we can't live here we're gonna keep going on an hour late see what the boys and feeling like came for a photo with purple corner absolutely mate that's sort of marks an epic trip from our first trip into Australia testing it's been a great run down here from your voice all the way loved it now Lakes is a great audio hey River track done and just about to come to people's corner where a bunch of states meet Northern Territory Queensland South Australia what a way to end a top trip at Pope ELLs corner you'll find some parking bays and a boardwalk out to the marker it's where three states join Queensland Northern Territory and South Australia and if you ask me it feels just a little bit better stay in the Queensland side well like that was one Rocky Creek High River track she's a long one big one and I tell you what it couldn't be any more different when I did it lads wet it was nasty this is very doable right the first time I've done it I've always wanted to the High River I'm not disappointed or and this was epic and to go off the beaten track yeah yeah no it wasn't a lifetime sort of spot I reckon if you're gonna come out to the Simpson it is a really good way to get north yeah then track around if you want to go Ellis brings a different way yeah we just took it out of you it really is face we'll leave that up to your imagination as to where we're gonna get on how we're gonna do it but for now thank you very much for joining us we'll see you next time on order of action he's gone my god resident hotel it's very powerful yes look up here was 2018 and Cahill led a party of 10 weary soldiers across the desert black-and-white pigs are really lovely [Music] bringing our sick folks this is redonkulous I'm gonna stay still the elbow oh yeah don't sweat guys we're on the camera don't swear on the camera oh [Music] you just say when you camera everywhere [Music] I'm going a little crazy Jeff Goldblum Edwards you see how the Simpson Desert and a campsite off the beaten track now it doesn't get much better in my opinion camp in the desert so well it tonight is a meal what was one of my favorites for camping it's a camping he's very good do it don't mention it [Laughter] my bosses [Music] I like to call beforehand protein balls and I'm gonna make mention of that McGarry right why am I here sorry they're that many excite us which already off Jesus out of my truck No yep I'm actually gonna put the chicken aside [Music] why do you reckon that spoon as a whole and the days of all remember bold and women weren't invented men drilled holes and telegraph poles and stilt they're quite contented well this here is camp 16 on the judge of the Madigan line and the High River tract in the tree behind me is the blue sheep that's traveling with Jude it's just what it's like just expect the unexpected when you're 12 almost you [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] you
