high last one five zero it's done tella 1068 fly heading to 3 fine dick 2 3 5 and we have Juliet so it's 10:16 Scott 99 to 1 cotton maintain 3,000 up to 3,000 and another one all right continue the climb it's getting awfully hot in here so I'm going to close that vent [Music] it spits out a little bit come left just a little bit up to over to one five zero on the heading passing 2300 up to three thousand turn these panel lights off we don't need I hate to do an anagram one got a quick approach one two seven point six five two two one two seven six five eight zero nine okay everybody climb one two seven six five just chop that down [Music] Waco approach sky hockey zero nine nine one level four thousand headache one five zero eight zero nine hundred my golf 1396 to another six eight zero nine one engines looking good everything is in the green no warning lights suction is sufficient all right at five inches where it belongs heading one five zero four thousand DG encompass check out and we're gonna expect direct San Marcos here in a few miles when there are winds zero two zero four knots in San Marcos overcast 400m miss Oh Waco if you could pop up with a question any reports of being in between layers in or around my altitudes 3 T cube to Papa native no this time you're about the only aircraft I've had for the last half an hour for the a little craziness a little bit but don't make my life marks I think negative about 56 degrees outside the temperature hardly fluctuates from the ground up to altitude and the low altitudes at least right now that shows me that the atmosphere is very stable we've also got stratiform clouds widespread constant rain or visibility that's that's all indicative of a stable atmosphere remember 9/11 could Marcus rec Saint Marcus no no no thank you direct enter enter about 30 degrees right all right ready there's my ground speed coming up that just shaved an hour off my ete estimated time and route there's now a direct San Marcos take a look at our weather looks like they're the surrounding airports are IFR for you would you prefer direct Laredo do you want to go the wake of or tinnitus is not the best five visibility five overcast 400 which is above minimums a does the good thing is austin austin exact New Braunfels and everything basically south of that is IFR I mean yeah just IFR it's better than San Marcos Saint Marcus is kind of lower IFR and that's what I sat in the FBO waiting on for so long I was waiting for the ceilings of the surrounding airports to come up the problem was the area was so widely low IFR like everything was below 400 feet so I don't want to shoot an approach into San Marcos have to go fist and then I'm like gambling as to whether I'm going to get into my alternate Victoria have like ten file visibility and 800 overcast so I filed Victoria as my alternate but also Austin has like 600 overcast visibility like 5 a pilot will get real rattled after shooting two approaches and failing at those two approaches and now they're like oh my god am I gonna get down and fuel thinking about fuel and you know how where's the where's a horse better weather and all that kind of stuff I just didn't go in to get myself into that situation so I waited probably for like I think it was like six hours I was in the FBO waiting just in the pilots lounge cracked open the laptop it's of work to my personal minimum is I want widespread ceilings of at least 500 feet and if it's not if it's widespread it's not like you know just one airport is 500 and the rest or 200 well that Airport could go down to 200 at any moment and that's what I don't want to play with engines in the green plenty of fuel suction is sufficient no warning lights and major charging the speed looks good we're coordinated cross-check everything our gyro looks good Sam Marcus 17 minutes ago overcast 600 visibility five so it trended up a little bit everything around that area is IFR instead of low lie afar now so that's in my favor that's working everything's kind of going up as the afternoon wears on and then as nightfall comes everything is most likely now I've seen forecast to be wrong so many freaking times what's most likely going to happen is the ceilings are gonna come back down as night ball hits I think an altitude heading out to make sure she's coordinated checking our speed but a moderate rain eyes on the instruments everything looks good suctions good it bends in the green play a few meters charging no warning lights level 4000 alright on heading speeds good or coordinated little less grass self that they'll aircraft hazardous weather information for we're center weather advisory one one zero five balance for the Waco area for a low IFR and low visibility with some rain bilbo hi slicers tripathi's guys on our wall you'll be entering an area of light precipitation in about four miles in an area of moderate precipitation on its current course in about 1 0 miles that moderate is about 5 miles in diameter and then it goes back to light for about three and then it's clear path that pattern under one Roger we have a DSP on board but negative radar if you could help us out with that cell in about 10 miles I'd be gray we can deviate left if possible jock Niner Niner one round you're plating one seven zero 170 on the headache man and I don't want [Music] and once Saudi on the heading fun fact single-engine propeller airplanes don't have windshield wipers because they don't really need it the blast from the propeller blows the water off the windshield does it does a pretty good job guys hug mare another one looks like a turn direct hand Marcus here in about two more miles that keeps clear of any moderates just a little bit of light for the next 15 and then clear past that for a little off sounds good thanks wake of rotation for 3 kilowatts without a 14-13 have the numbers for Gregor aren't everyone's though they in the 4-3 kilo-alpha way to approach rudders gonna maintain six out of six thousand they have me on a heading a 180 yeah they gonna keeping that for about some room off the name of the game is eyes on the instruments don't think about anything else except the moment that you're in right now think about flying the airplane what you need to do next heading and altitude check your engine instruments vacuum make sure there's no warning lights check your course make sure you're on track to seven point you to you two seven two two eight zero nine one getting one to seven point two two watching the instruments flip-flop contact Austin approach and we're gonna request let's take a look at the weather just real quick Saint Marcus win zero one zero at four knots broken four hundred visibility for so that's actually that is good enough for the Arnav three five and that the wind that's what the winds are gonna favor so that's what we're gonna request with Austin on our initial contact Austin approach sky Hawk ages zero Niner one level four thousand direct San Marcos looking for the Arnav one sorry are now three five in the San Marcos or eight zero nine Irwin also approach the same mark visit land irani one three you can plan the ILS fly heading 2 1 0 vector study approach heading two one zero will expect that I don't know no one thinks they're landing runway one three all right when zero-one-zero at 4 but I guess that's not enough for them to the land of the north so I guess we'll have a little bit of a tailwind ok so we were told to expect the ILS 1/3 so now since we were told to expect that we're gonna go in here and load it into the 430 and he set the vectors but I'm gonna go ahead and load Gary's in here we're gonna load because we can always go activate vectors to final later when I do the same thing on my iPad and he'll procedure select approach ILS 1/3 and we're gonna say Gary's level 4,000 heading to 1-0 those 2392 contact approach 1 to 5 point 3 to 25-30 do you have a great day okay we're gonna get 108 points 7 and the veal oak here we're gonna go ahead and put it on veal oak on the 430 and since we have a number 2 radio we're gonna put one oh eight point seven and on the second radio as well final approach course is going to be 1 to 6 degrees we're gonna set both CD eyes to 1 to 6 degrees heading 2 1 0 level 4,000 interested Smiths are in the green section is sufficient and no warning lights we do have an Odom on the airport runway 1 3 rail light out of service what that means is the chasing rabbits that that are we're usually we usually see you know when you come down through the clouds is out of service what to 0 a 2 is the whether we're talking to Austin approaches are probably gonna hand us off to 19 nothing and San Marcos Tower 1 to 6 8 2 and tower will be open we got ground control clearance delivery and - well we've got two clearance deliveries we're getting vector for the approach going back up to my instruments heading 2 1 0 level 4,000 engine instruments are good section is good so if we go to Gary's and go outbound to do the procedure turn where you need to stay at or above 3200 until established on final approach and we're going to get that drink 991 contact approach one-one-niner point zero one out of point series you're not getting great news check in with your heading welcome austin approaches guy hockey zero another under one level four thousand heading two one zero vector for the ILS gate there another under one offs in approach garage is you give me a full stop a fur magnet under one Roger you're gonna have a hermano facilitation twelve o'clock one five miles you've been in for about fifteen to twenty miles I don't want her you know living there five area of a well line of moderate precipitation extending from your 10 o'clock to your one o'clock you'll be in it for about eight fighting mouth contact you Senator Chris I maintain one 2,000 contact you Center one three four point two good day we're on final we're gonna stay out of 2700 feet until we intercept the glide slope which is gonna be before Gary's we're gonna cross check our altitude at Gary's which should be 24 41 feet on the glide slope missed approach is going to be climb straight out to 2,000 feet upon reaching two thousand feet begin a left climbing turn to 3,200 feet direct to the Gary's NDB Gary's intersection straight an ILS 1/3 is middle of was our 793 half mile visibility so that's two hundred feet AGL is what we're gonna does common Porthos tell those 2179 on center party radar contact maintain Niner thousand clear work painting that that was wrecked it it never 24:20 maintain one 2020 we'll just make a note that the rails at Saint Marcus are out of service okay another another one how was your flight through the ring smooth so far we get intimate just occasional bumps here and there but pronounced smooth we're IMC graduate thank you the project today citations 3 to 7 November Mike departed austin executive 1600 climbing 3000 eduation 3 to 7 november my god set apart ident often altimeter to 904 maintained on their own a DSP is saying the same thing as the ATIS they agree I have to go missed New Braunfels is marginal Austin's marginal executive his IFR I'd probably go to Bergstrom if I have to go missed bill missed go out the Bergstrom shoot the ILS and a three-five right or left whichever one they give me always have an out I've got it I've got a back-up plan if this doesn't work if the clouds you know aside from what the meet are saying an 80s being all that and the forecast if the clouds are lower than all of that said unexpectedly then I'm going to go miss and I have backup plans Austin looks great San Antonio looks great they're not even IFR they're VFR looks good we timed this perfectly okay ma'am to is it's picking it up so let's listen to the Morse code and identify it everyone is a little weaker but I hear it that is a localizer for our pictures you guys are live by the 7th and 8th over the correct place Rodriguez horses that way climb fast above that and enter one and turn left heading 1 6 0 1 6 are nominal hang on man or one you're seven miles from Gary's flying one six zero maintain 3000 so 7th localizer cleared ILS runway 1 3 approached a market airport let's exert down to 3000 until establish cleared for the ILS 1 3 San Marcos not another one reducing power descent checklist fixture and rich it we're gonna start enriching and fuel selectors on both her feet as required let's go ahead and get it out a to say wass we've got it back on the instruments of laterally I'll tell her as Isis 1966 contact front water set on 0.32 good day mister miss cross-check calibrated descent checklist complete let's go ahead be the perform before landing checklist brakes pedal testing an idea for a victory looks like 35 right / kappa / good pressure on the pedals landing on autopilot soft seat belts shoulder harnesses are adjusted and locked my eyes are on the instruments watching the instruments everything's good suction is good heading one six zero and down to 3,000 mixture set for best power we're gonna ease in car beats on fuels on both and flaps as required we don't want any flaps quite yet heading looks good passing through 3,500 bout 500 feet a minute on the descent here left just a little bit engine instruments are in the green our descent checklist anthony landing checklist is complete your company localizers are coming and so we're gonna get ready to make our turn lake planning north we've got quebec 352 in approach expect i went through five left - 350 - you guys factoring out through the 35 left start a left-hand turn intercept the localizer quite fully established yet needles are alive while most on the center so we're gonna increase power maintain 3000 here we're turning to our final approach path Mandarin r1 contacts a market r12 622 good day - 618 no no no I'm kidding we're just gonna check on tell them ILS 1 3 so Marcus tower skyhawk 81 and under 1 ILS 1/3 sky ok $0.99 or one sellers tie right away one three-foot line what pre-clear the land no no one alright 3,000 we are established we're going to start easing her down to 2700 feet looks like our glide slope is alive well right on localizer use the power out just a little bit carp eat here is down once we get just a little lower we start coming up towards the glide path and we're gonna think about dropping the first notch of flaps and that will help us slow down and the scent will kind of help increase increase lift at the lower speeds check in my desired track against my track and using that to kind of get a ballpark on my gyro as to where I want we're coming down to 2700 feet so the a does have changed tomorr starvation Oscar 2:246 Zulu wind 0 1 0 at for visibility two and a half miles rain stock condition ceiling 400 Wilton 800 overcast temperature 172.16.0.0 jinyu's notice to Airmen run away 1 3 run away a lot they did to get her life out of service that you wake up the clothes divided Mitchell contact you go probation Oscar Alta better 296 that's the important part and they also also another important part is the minimums I'm comparing the minimums to the reported ceiling or reported ceiling is 400 feet still so we argued we're just maintaining 2700 feet on the localizer until this glide path comes down to us and it looks like a heading of about 1 1 5 is gonna help me hold that desired track maybe about 1 1 0 now the wind shifts as we as we descend the wind might change speeds change directions we just want to keep an eye on it our checklists are done our lights are on we have the weather or in some light wear light rain right now visibility two and a half miles broken 400 on the ceiling all right we're coming up to the glide path here I don't want to use control of the approach no no no no one Roger that's nice I'm happy tell me that I have control of the approach lights we're gonna come left just a little bit and we're coming up to our glide path there we go we're slightly right of course into two CD eyes agree which is good goodgoodgood elections good engines in the green no warning lights there's a glide path we're gonna reduce the power and start down there's the chime for Garry's it's coming in thanks for the warning and trim those up just a little bit reduce power to help us slow down come left a little bit about one one zero looks good 2500 descending 800 in the wine arc one one thousand two one thousand three one thousand there's the first notch of flaps were a little bit right of course coming left about five degrees this very gentle turns is all we need you can even adjust it with a rudder a little bit we want about 75 knots approach speed I'm kind of breaking out of the clouds in and out of the clouds here but I am NOT gonna look outside yet I can glance outside but I'm not gonna fix myself outside I'm cleared for the ILS not the visual so you fly the ILS 75 knots slightly right of course we're just gonna correct it just to the left a little bit check out Johnny oh that looks pretty good we aren't crabbing like crazy and I have almost the perfect power setting for the glide path in here I do not see the runway yet do not look outside you not fixate outside our minimums are 793 feet on the altimeter about 1.5 slope reduced power a little bit I'm controlling my speed with pitch and my descent rate based on my glide slope with power so I'm a little high so I'm going to reduce power a little bit I'm a little fast so I'm going to pull the nose up a little bit looking good 2,000 feet a little bit right we're gonna correct left and a little bit hi we're gonna ease the power out just a little bit increase that descent rate and that psi starts creeping down very gently that is great how that works that wasn't feet to go by the way coming down through 1,800 feet for 800 come left about five degrees and there we are we're right on glide slope right on localizer well almost right on localizer don't kid yourself Josh a little bit left a little bit left suctions good engine the instruments are good no warning lights I have control of the runway lights or the approach lights rather a little bit above glide slope he's the power out just a little bit and come left a little bit and some light rain here a little fast so we're gonna pull the nose a little high we're gonna pull the power out a little bit we're correcting the left get back on those needles or a little bit high a little bit right he's the power out a little bit 500 feet got the runway in sight one white one red red on glide path we're still cleared for the approach so we want a more or less stay on the needles till minimums go ahead and add another notch of flaps one one thousand two one thousand three one thousand that's gonna give us some extra lift my nose is pointed to the left so I have a left crosswind so that means we're gonna need to do a or right side slip coming down through 70 knots power is coming to idle I've got the runway made a couple swipes of trim those up little right rudder we're just gonna hold her off right above the runway let her bleed off the speed there's the runway beautiful system 99 at one to the right takes away echoing Integra right I could go on a ground and another one thanks Justin 99 or when did you notice the basis of the clouds one final yes sir they're about three hundred fifty feet AGL right about where they said they were and it was broken thank you all right not a bad ILS not a bad aisle that's the first legit approach I've done that was down to about 400 feet that was the first approach I've really done in a long time and I MC so welcome to fall in Texas it's time to time to sharpen up the the skills in the clouds after landing flaps are coming up car PETA's off strokes or off landing light is gonna stay on the pitot heat is off mixture as required we're gonna lean it just a little bit the trim set for takeoff transponder is squawking altitude San Marcos ground sky hockey zero no no no no one clear of runway one three echo going to the T hangars this danger 99016 ground we're ready area Charlie and alpha - uh parking Charlie alpha two parking another one all right good stuff good stuff that whole thing was a good exercise of my personal minimums because it's very tempting you know and you're like Oh everything down in Austin is 400 feet overcast and the approach lets me go down to 200 so yeah he'll go yeah it's very tempting to say that and that's where you know people will have what's called get there itís it's you know a made-up disease that where pilots will kill themselves because they'll try and push it because they just really want to get home they just really want to get to their destination so they'll push it and kind of fudge the rules and and all that kind of stuff you got to try really hard to overcome that and not give in to it because it's very easy to give in to it but i sat there in the millionaire pilots lounge at Addison and just was watching the weather and just said I'm not gonna leave until most of the airports in my area have at least a 500 foot ceiling and that happened it I I waited probably about six hours and it finally happened that was a really awesome exercise of my personal minimum I've stuck it out and I waited and waited and waited and I was ready to just stay at Addison another night and call it quits and go grab a hotel I was perfectly happy to do that if I had to [Music] I think the point that I really want to walk away from this video with is that we all have our personal minimums and it's important for us to kind of stick to them and it takes some discipline to do that but that's what it's all about I told myself that I was not gonna leave millionaire at Addison until I had what I wanted as far as weather goes down the road and I stuck to it I walked away from this flight having learned something new both about myself and my personal minimums and I think that's something really important if you liked the video hit like if you haven't already hit subscribe and turn on notifications to catch more videos that come out in the future stay happy stay healthy stay current and stay proficient we'll catch you on the next one [Music]
