hi i'm alex archbull and i've been buying and selling antiques since i was nine years old from basements to scrap yards i'll look just about anywhere i can to find lost antiques and collectibles and sometimes i'll go big and buy everything with my wife and kids we run an antique shop in edmonton alberta canada filled with some of the most unique items we can find i never know what's going to happen or who i'm going to meet this is our life this is our adventure and this is curiosity [Music] hi guys and welcome to today's episode well last week i went to a house and they offered me the entire contents i feel like i'm in a washing machine in this back alley here they offered me the entire contents of their garage for just a couple hundred bucks and i'm driving today the 1973 pontiac granville ambulance which is done up kind of like the ghostbusters car uh because everywhere it went people said ghostbusters and i said no it's not and then they said yes it is and i said no it wasn't and then finally i just stuck the sticker on the doors gave the people what they wanted uh but it is an actual old ambulance in fact it's so complete and intact i had to take the stretcher out of the back to make room for all the cool old stuff which we're gonna go pick up uh this was uh a whole pile of collectibles some of which i picked up last week we're gonna get the rest of it today and uh we'll go through later on to see what we got so follow along let's go on another adventure [Music] this is the massive load of stuff which i have to very optimistically cram inside of the back of that ambulance and uh we were surprised last time though that we were able to get the stuff inside the buick so maybe maybe we'll be just as surprised today i'm not feeling as optimistic now look at how many boxes there are that's all gonna fit but hey let's give it a whirl why do i do these things who knows [Music] this is starting to feel like actual work i am stacking things in here as best i can we still have a couple feet left at the back end of the car and all of that to load can we do it yes we can well this is one packed wagon right now uh i am full to the roof but we managed to get everything in now i've got to go offload at my my storage facility aka my garage at home uh to sort through this stuff and see exactly what i want to keep and what i want to go hopefully there'll be a few little treasures in there but i have a feeling 95 of this stuff is gonna end up going to auction or i'll wholesale it out to other dealers um definitely don't have room for all this stuff at the shop but uh let's get back to the house see what was in the uh in the garage fine and maybe find some treasure [Music] [Applause] my car feels like the equivalent of a suitcase that's been overstuffed you have to sit on it to make it go down ah gotta try and find room for everything i've started to kind of uh well creating some space i'm going to lay it out kind of furniture stuff that i want to keep stuff that i want to sell things i might go to auction or charity uh i've got my little area in here where things can get laid out so that's what i'm gonna start to do one piece at a time as johnny cash would say shoe shine kit complete with shoe shine and brushes really not worth anything but kind of a neat novelty it's branded it's kiwi brand i don't think they really make these for sale anymore maybe they do but we'll put that in the place and auction pile [Music] pair of really cool turquoise colored 1950s fans one of them's working real good don't want to stick your fingers in there those i'll probably bring to the store i should be able to find the use for that people do buy these old fans and these are a really good color too old kirby vacuum i always did like the style of these but i want to test it and see if it works okay it's plugged in let's see what happens that's probably for the uh angle that should be on right there well that still works my whole garage thinks a little bit now because that was probably full of 50 year old dust but the thing still works fuel jerry cans these always look good in the back little bronco or jeep this you can see was a military can at one time somebody's painted it red but originally that would have looked something like this this still has the original paint on it has the top and i'll probably take that one to the shop because that uh is kind of neat nice little piece and i'm gonna go ahead and guess that this is a sewing machine after seeing tons of these now what i don't know is what era it's from it kind of has a 1970s look to it but it could be a little bit earlier and some 1950s and 60s sewing machines can be pretty collectible let's see what's inside oh yeah kenmore probably like a 1960s kenmore really good working machine somebody was using it not that long ago still has the thread in it all ready to roll that'll go at auction [Music] some old school ski poles a couple sets of those actually there's five there's probably another one somewhere maybe i'll find it maybe i won't we're missing the other one that has a black handle but neat piece to put up on a wall of decoration i don't know if people would use those now maybe not that style but this is actually an old folding table i might have used for this right now while i'm sorting i'm going to set this table up and put stuff on top of it that'll come in handy right now it's actually in pretty good shape the fellow worked for boeing so maybe that explains its drab colors i can't imagine that being a military issued portable table but for folding table that's not a bad one what is in here traverse rod with tension floor pulley okay let's see what's inside oh i recognize that somebody was using this tube for the fishing poles montaque 65 true temper still has the price tag on it i think that's basically brand new that's like a new old stock 1960s or so fishing pole how much was it brand new let's see retail price 23. your cost just 9.87 at the house of value well that's pretty neat that'll go well with the uh reels that i picked up the other day this box looks kind of interesting it's got all kinds of rolls of paper these i'm going to assume are maps yes they are these are all united states west coast washington strait of one strait of georgia all the low water marks and everything so these are um if you're a sailor and you need to know where everything is basically laid out well he did say he uh used to sail so maybe these are all his uh nautical maps and stuff what's this the bahamas maybe he went to the bahamas maybe he just wanted a poster from the bahamas who knows there's a bahamas advertising poster there see what else is in this box dude big yardstick sears craftsman can't go buy a yardstick at sears anymore can't buy anything at sears anymore some of these have neat um advertisements on them if they're from an old service station or something they can be a little bit more collectible those are just hardware stores let's see if there's anything exciting in here astronauts looks like it's maybe out of a national geographic or something a little box of tools here a nice little right about five pound sledge little side let's see what else is in here some braces this is a hand crank drill but cool thing about that it's got the um shoulder rest on so you can really tear into that thing put some pressure on whatever you're drilling into it's got a hook on the end of it interesting must have been maybe spooling some wire or doing something with it it's my guess there's another one there oh there's your old garden hose reel never used probably from the 50s i think i've got one of those on the side of my store right now a little handsaw okay a little variety of tools this is a little bit earlier it's gotten a nice brass edge to it that could be you know closer to a piece from the teens or 20s or so maybe even before that's a good uh good old piece to find in there well i know what this is that is the um turntable the platter for an old well this would have been like more of a gramophone an electrified gramophone there's the part you put your needle in it doesn't seem to be entirely complete and what's interesting is it's electric so this would be a slightly later model very similar sort of setup to what you have on the hand crank but instead of a big spring you've got a little armature and a little motor there neat if you're restoring one of those and need it see what's in the box woodward's fine china glassware and silverware they no longer exist either all these old department stores most of them gone out of business what's this guy oh a little uh looks like a uh kodak bullseye 620. it's a neat looking little camera kind of art deco and we've got another box here kodak transparent oil colors eight tube set what if this is for hand coloring your uh your photographs that's exactly what this is it's an oil color set for coloring photographic prints so this is before they had color pictures this is black and white they i you could get a little set like this with oil oil paints and you would hand paint the colors on your pictures and this thing is entirely intact look at those cute little oil tubes with the eastman kodak logo on them rochester new york that's a really neat little piece i've never actually had one of these before so that tells you they don't uh don't come around too often probably a lot of people weren't investing the money in transparent uh oil colors back in those days but it's nice it's got the original box the instruction booklet pretty happy with that that will come to the store i did have a look at this one the other day and i thought it was kind of cool it is let me just grab the box off here is an old uh i believe a briggs stratton motor from the 50s and it's set up to be a portable generator so your own generator set you built a nice little wooden box for it there and i guess if you went camping or needed power for something or needed to charge your battery there you go you got your little portable generator set so pretty uh ingenious little homemade generator and from what i understand it actually still works i'm not going to try starting it now but yeah it's not stuck or anything so that would go cool of course you can tell what this is right away sewing machine treadle style somebody's white washed it unfortunately they paint the whole thing and people do that see if i can get the band back on here and we can see if the thing actually works so the idea is you rock your foot back and forth that gets spinning and what does it do turns your sewing machine on which is right here now let's see what it looks like i do always like the artwork that they put on an old singer sewing machine and this one is nice they do some that are egyptian motifs so it appears to pretty well be all there and more or less in functioning condition but the uh challenges somebody's repainted this thing so for it to be worth any kind of money it need to be restored something that would still sell to a collector or somebody who wants to restore it it's a nice piece see what's in the drawer some accessories hey the key is still there somebody was dreaming of paris at one time a long time ago hopefully they got there good that goes right in here like this this way or the other way little missing plate what do we have behind box number two a whole pile of vintage wrapping paper and i'm guessing it's probably from the 1970s or so the reason i say that is that there's an unused roll of strawberry shortcake wrapping paper and this was popular in the late 70s to early 80s i don't see a date on it anywhere there but that's definitely that era brand new strawberry shortcake wrapping paper can't be a whole lot of that left somebody might use these for um i don't know if you'd use it for wrapping presents but they might use it for scrapbooking or making fun little crafts with i'll pack that up i'm not going to open this one up because it's still in the box i don't think it's been used it is the hardy well the hardy table i suppose you unfold it and look turned into a picnic table distinctive features carries like luggage folds compactly stands firmly safe space seats for one unit look you could be as happy as she is if you had this table this looks to be one of those extendable floor lamps from the 50s that you uh can raise or lower to any height in your ceiling i remember my grandpa had while he's sitting by his chair let's see what year this was packed away well you got an idea from the car probably 1971 or two something like that since this was put here oh looks like it's all there kind of that mid-century sort of thing somebody would probably buy that once we get it all set up looks like this box is full of old postcards all sorts of them in here they don't look terribly old maybe 50s 60s i mean that's old for some people but i always hope to find the turn of the century once what do we have in here liberty ready cut homes wow if you wanted to buy your 1950s house there you go how to build fine modern home at a very low cost more or less pre-manufactured modern comforts and conveniences solve the rent problem the this easy way look at the whole fridge in there it's like a little kelvinator this has got to be early 50s and there's all the designs you want to build yourself a 1950s home just pick it from this book send it right to your lot and you got to put it up a lot of people used to be more ambitious than they are now building their own homes and so forth hmm kind of cool aladdin ready cut home so there's a few companies making them but they must have gone ahead and built one at some time sometimes these boxes of old papers and books can be pretty interesting you never know what's going to be hidden in here small house designs look there's the actual floor plan book in 50s or 60s this one's a little bit heavier there's an old automotive uh repair book probably from the 1940 1943 how to fix pretty well everything even going back to the 20s cars those do sell transistor radio every time i see a transistor i think my dad used to collect those actually he liked the pocket transistors the most those were his favorites another old radio there general electric and instructions for building an airplane a model kit i guess which i didn't get but there's the instructions for it this thing has some weight to it because it's a old electric typewriter these haven't caught on in the way that um the old mechanical ones have in terms of collectibility but it's still kind of a cool thing would bet it would still work too that was high tech at one time not anymore we are digging through this massive box of puzzles seeing if there's anything cool in here summer's still sealed i think that one's still sealed it's a neat one there's a ton i'll let you guys sort through that while i keep emptying it out look i've gotten halfway through this box is labeled dinner set and that's exactly what we find inside castle on the lake johnson brothers england all decoration under the glaze permanent and acid resistant colors a genuine hand engraving there's a whole set okay well i recognize this that's an old uh wallasco steam engine or mammoth one or the other and a whole bunch of red and green mechano parts which people do buy the red and green is pretty collectible look there's a little uh that's an old aircraft airplane motor or like out of a um tether car i wonder what else is in there looks like it's just more and more meccano and a hockey buck from pizza hut this box is from federal products in rhode island but what's inside oh it looks like so it's a buttonhole attachment for the sewing machine these are called like all the uh accessories for the sewing machine well that makes it a little bit more complete zigzag attachment button holders all kinds of fun stuff put that with the sewing machine if i'm not mistaken well these are all little portable stools oh they're small maybe they're stool samples um these are i believe off of a boat like these would be accessory um chairs off of a an old speed boat i might have a friend interested in that little cap stools director's type chairs what is in this box oh that's a telegraph you know for your sos which is what i need because of how messy my car is now and do your morse code this looks a little older usually this type of finish is what they put on stuff back in the 20s and 30s instructo graph code instructor well that's pretty cool maybe this is the uh what they would teach students on i'll have to look that up but it's a code instructor graph with all these little bits and pieces and accessories in here and i just bet it's complete number three instructor graph oh this is all yeah instructional tapes and so forth that you put in there is to teach people uh morse code that's pretty cool don't you think yeah you hook that up and then teach people morris code with it or i guess you know whatever you need if you're doing telegraph operations or whatever but that's cool really neat a couple old adding machines the looks of things american office equipment incorporated actually that might be a check writer i think that's what that is a whole pile of old cookie and cracker tins in here this is kind of fun beauty shine carnauba wax pink carnauba it's empty but still people buy those as decorations or to store stuff in i can still taste these danish butter cookies my mom used to buy them just about every christmas we'd have those and you're never really excited you're like yeah a cookie and as a kid you think chocolate chip yay and it's a danish butter cookie they're still good though to to all our danish friends out there huns included i like them they're good fragile records oh yeah look at this louis armstrong stone the cello i like bob wheels actually quite a bit bob wills and his texas playboys that's good music right there still in the plastic maybe there's all kinds of neat stuff in here i would have to go through and see lawrence welk well that's not as exciting of course the top two are the ones that i like and the other ones are like guy lombardo and stuff which are not as collectible not knocking it just not real exciting but i am going to go through and see if there's anything in here i have to say i really like texas swing so i'm pretty happy to find some original spade coulee some pee wee king hank thompson um yeah there's some good country albums in here so i'm gonna keep digging and hopefully find a few more spike jones some jazz artie shaw the big band stuff i'm not as into but heck i'm getting some good western out of here melanie dinner we're brand new in the box since the 50s actually that's probably a set that would sell it's a type of plastic but i mean where you find a set that's been sitting around for 40 50 years still in the original box this looks like an old projector film projector let's get out of the box and set it up [Music] sure that's what the sears definitely has a 1950s kind of look to it usually pressing the button there we go yep that's what it is all right eight millimeter still has a couple reels with it well if ever you doubted how much stuff i could fit inside the ambulance have a look behind me this double car garage is completely full now of things that i had packed inside the ambulance there were some good finds there's an antique little kids chair some tins you know some sellable items nothing that's really kind of a knockout but i was happy with the fishing rods got some nice suitcases i personally am happy about the country albums uh old singer's sewing machine a couple of oil cans the table the generator that was a nice surprise electric typewriter fans you know considering i'd say it was a pretty good haul so these are sort of the items i want to bring back to the shop this is all stuff that's going to need to find a new home but that's going to have to wait till another day and there's some cute little odds and ends in here too like this little it looks like a uh teapot but actually it's coasters so if you need a coaster just pull it out of the teapot fun little household items what looks like a chalkware vaz probably from the 40s there are just boxes and boxes and boxes of things and you know some of it's pretty neat in the very back was also this pair of claricon air suspension speakers which would have been sort of a nice hi-fi optional speaker at the time probably the mid 60s high fidelity speaker system and they are made in elizabeth new jersey oh american made speakers i'll have to hook them up and see if they work but if they do that's uh that's a nice little pair of speakers there nice to get some audio stuff i would say the best finds are probably the uh telegraph teaching set that was pretty cool um the jerry cans the generator seth boy i'm just looking around and seeing how much stuff is there and you know there's definitely some good value the old fishing rods but i have a lot of work cut out for me too when you clean out a garage like that and take everything you also end up with some stuff you don't want so old stereo cabinets and things that are broken i'll see if maybe i have a friend that might want to come over and recycle some of these things for some art projects but all in all a really good haul i hope you enjoyed watching today's video i've got my work cut out for me again as usual um so out the door in to my store and hopefully won't have this stuff for very long have a wonderful day guys we'll see y'all soon and bye for now [Music] you
