BIGGEST Lifeguard Mistakes on Bondi Rescue

I was up in the tower and I spotted a few people in trouble down at backpackers put the call out over the radio for the South Rhino to respond to it and there was a bit of a pause but no one responds Harry's believes the call must be fee decide again I didn't leave that up that well in turn a mouse is led to believe Harry's must be in the south end body [Music] but Harry's is positioned in front of the North flags helping a member of the public find his berries on veins it isn't bad it's you know just kind of goes off for sure very very bad you know I started yet worried like what's Harry's doing I said yeah I suppose the location you're gonna have to go in for sure I can I'm on up the flag did I say Harry so did I sighs your honor if Harry's another [ __ ] who is eventually I realised it was actually Ron that was down south that backpack is Ryan who doesn't realize that mouse is referring this room is directly in front of his position at the south end buggy backpackers let's see mouse might see consistently I'll be lying if I didn't say there's a little bit of panic because you've missed something and you know you don't know how long they've been in trouble there were two patients a girl and a guy and the girl was furthest out if you want to go down [ __ ] I've come on tobacco lobby yeah copy I look out and I see a guy and he was a non swimmer he's just on the shore he plays so close but he's a pro his hand up there baby I always thought I was talking to human eels up here and then they just went from bad to really really bad really this guy literally could have touched the sand within 30 centimeters and he couldn't do that I know people drown in bathtubs so I knew I had to try to click get out there to him before you drown I thought the call was fairies when yeah actually it was for me Senior Life Guards are continually looking for ways to improve the service it is quite easy sometimes to miss stuff and that happens in it in every workplace fan out across the beach communicating on radios communication on one our beaches collie Emerson important thing that we've got it's pretty simple the problem is identifying the Tower communicates to the beaches four or five paperback there are curvy and there's a response but it's a message tasks again through people can drown [Music] midday and Jethro heads in for a rescue at backpackers rip then Harrison identifies more people in trouble the sample on by the South corner the couple of guys holding onto the back Mouse is unresponsive now if you copy that once ahead of on the radio I didn't really get a reply back for a confirmation with Jeff's room in the border and mouse not responding as Harrison turns to ker box box can you hear me who is at the other end of the beach with both jefra and ker box in the water and mouse uncontacted on the radio no one's available for a new group of swimmers who are getting into trouble yes yes [Applause] one Mouse realizes no problem with his radio yeah the swimmer in trouble at the South End is running out of energy the communication falls apart on the beach we've got a loose link in the chain serious problems can happen from that while communications been down a volunteer lifesaver has saved the day yeah by the time I got to this bug I didn't have much left in him I guess the lesson learned from this old radio answer is just to always be aware of your line of communication if especially in those moments where there's a lot going on if you haven't heard something on the radio check your volume Jake was on the jet ski and I was in the tower and Mario was on the sand we had a swimmer that was in bad shape and going under and the call was made from Mario to direct Jake to pick up the patient calling Jay on the scheme and it wasn't too far from where the swimmers were getting at 3:00 Jake is having trouble following Mario's directions lifeguards often use the walkway ramps along the beach to identify their positions 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th ramps are key landmarks me being in the tower I thought it was my duty to help direct him as best we can and I sort of came in over the top and tried to help jack if you can just go - yeah with every passing second the swimmer gets closer to drowning yeah I said here here so you could put an understand where was the problem has already drawn in three lifeguards then another Mario would say to him a couple of times over the radio yeah yeah yeah and Jake got really confused finally Jake locates to swim off Mario came up to the tower and I said to him get a mask how's it going yeah down there and he was quite annoyed he's really fired up and really angry and just kept dying at me there I say on the North or on the north side like I said anywhere to do the rescue he was heading down brah well I don't agree because yes so whatever it was known in his house yeah circumstances if we were really stressed we were really under pressure down here and tempers sort of frayed and you know I think Mario probably needed to vent and always in the firing line and and then of course because I was under stress - I probably vented back New Year's Day is the most confronting and challenging day on the lifeguard calendar it's no time for division in the service so I was sitting down south corner with Maxie on the Rhino and I glanced across down to the next rip and noticed three heads in the inner water so I said to Maxie we should probably go down and have a look at these three they didn't look like strong swimmers see what you can have to go in that one's put in here you know Jessie jumped on and said that those two people out the back you're sorry obviously you go for the person out the back first further down the other five this money on the back as lifeguards communicate their message becomes confused as he was heading out Jesse kept saying out the back out the back Maxie Tolson what's sure just how many swimmers are in trouble or even if they have missed someone I got out to the patient and the patient was you know you know sort of I guess a real struggle and I could hear the megaphone from the beach which was Maxie saying singlets going out the back out the back I'm thinking in the back of my head is someone actually going under or underwater out the back the break hi Maxie went out the back that he's trying to get for the two on the inside [Music] where did that go I got out there and there was no one so my first reaction was they've gone under maxie don't get that person halfway out brah I don't know preparing for a possible drowning chapo and Jake raced down with a defibrillator and oxy Viper kit I think someone she's got under boys maxint rescues one woman and learns it was just her and a friend who was now returned to shore I'd left be patient to go out and have a look for a patient that wasn't bad I think there's just a bit of a communication breakdown and yeah things got a bit heated the whole time the whole time lady goes oh he's under I don't mean it wasn't that I spotted someone at the back there was two people in the in the rib and I just said on the radio go for the person out of the back and that's naturally what you do you want to go for the behind the first person we're on the human we do make mistakes mistakes on both parts you know both from the tower and my judgment my instinct with the hang with the girl that I had but you know it's kind of like the voice from the beach can say better than you can if there's someone worse or further out you gotta go lifeguards are inundated as more and more victims seek assistance their eyes are momentarily off the water when a boy Sprint's from South End [Music] [Music] Luke and Terry race down maxi backs out with a defibrillator vodkas have no idea what's happened how do we miss that just what's happened is with corner dealing with bluebottles I suppose and everyone's kind of busy or to miss our damn self maxie monitors her pulse the girl is in shock and may have taken in water I'm Lydia here they're getting us going for a swim she's down here with nine other kids is that right and she's got caught in this southern riff here and like that she's not almost Rihanna [Applause] oh so it's like a mystery in the tower lifeguards prioritize who to treat [Applause] there's nothing you can really go back missing a rescue could prove fatal luckily former lifeguard George was surfing nearby right now it was a race I'm sure she was really panicked yeah listen Jerrod darling brought you your eighth night and that far out we were she but what she took to sunny little riff on their fine dear and rock yeah Joe it's not a good feeling my life's talked about it we pride ourselves on what we say and you know when you're fighting me something [Music] actually when you and I went Sam's happen Marcia that was recourse to drowning is I'd like to get and if it wasn't for the surfer I'll I'd hate you big hair that might have ended up so yeah thank you to the board riders upon die set for for a deceased
