[Music] hello and welcome to the Cy CU Anam Monk and today we are in Boulders Gate 3 doing a beginner guide for a necromancer build now it's going to be a detail guide we're going to go over exactly what I would suggest picking and of course the reasons behind why I would pick it as well we're going to go from level one to six on this necromantic gu because I really feel like with the Necromancer it's not until level six that you can really feel like this build coming together however it doesn't mean that it isn't a very strong build anyway also I'd like to point out that this is but a guide if you want to mix a match and do your own thing and do some changes and tweaks then feel free go for it there's no real make or break build um within Boulders Gate 3 it's a beautiful game and you can fully experience and um live out your role-playing fantasies here first of all we should really throw in a warning based on your race and of course your background within Boulders gate fre you cannot change your race or your background so the race and background that you pick at the beginning of the game is possibly the most important choice you will make throughout your entire journey in Boulders Gate 3 so keep that in mind when picking the race that you want and the class that you want to be playing now for a necromancer I kind of feel like a half orc is pretty good this is actually my favorite option now we do have the dark vision which essentially allows us to see in darkness and there's a lot of Darkness to be seen in Boulders Gate 3 unfortunately now the most important part of this however is Relentless endurance if you reach zero hit points you regain one hit point instead of becoming down essentially if you die you get back up and I kind of feel like this is amazing Synergy with the Necromancer style that we're trying to do if you're really trying to role play then the Relentless endurance is kind of op there we also have Savage attacks but that's not really going to benefit us for what we're doing really it's this it's the Relentless endurance topped with dark vision allowing us to see up to 12 M away basically meaning we're able to hit in darkness next up we have the GE Yankee again a great choice for a necromancer for a couple of different reasons we do have astral knowledge so you gain a Proficiency in all skills of your chosen ability we have the the Mage hand which can be incredibly useful even early game en enabling us us to have accessibility to certain areas throw potions grenades even we also have Marshall prowess but that's not really why this is good we get Proficiency in both light and medium armor typically as a wizard we don't get those kind of proficiencies so it enables us to have some kind of protection which again is a really good option we also get the GIF Yankee jump as well in later levels which can be really handy for actually moving across the battlefield and then that leads us to the drought another favorite of mine for a necromancer build the Dr does have the Fay ancestry where you gain advantage on saving froze against being Charmed and you cannot be magically put to sleep which is very very overpowered really because there are bits of that especially later in the game you get added perception checks here too and you also get that Superior dark vision so unlike the dark vision here is the best version of that where you can see up to 24 m in darkness you're going to be in caves you're going to be in the underdark you're going to be um having your vision restricted or of course you can always cast Darkness so other people can't see allowing you to then have that Advantage allowing you to hit in darkness and of course not to be hit now when it comes to the background you can pretty much pick any background you want it won't make or break any build you do I do think there's a few things that have a little bit more Synergy especially to a wizard class that being the acolyte which isn't quite isn't uh too bad we get obviously some insight proficiencies there I also think that the entertainers a good one because you get acrobat which will mean you're a little bit harder to hit I quite like noble because you get that persuasion and that history buff as well which again is quite fitting and then of course you've got Sage which is probably the most obvious choice for a wizard background but absolutely any of them will work for your build and after that we are free to pick our class and of course we're going to go for Wizard because of course we do want to be a Necromancer and this is the road to it now being a level one wizard doesn't mean you are Necromancer however we do get access to a few uh decent can trips and of course spells as well Fireball is a bloody good can trip no matter where you are in the game magic hand is a very very useful one we've already spoken about magic hand Mage Armor is kind of your bread and butter when it comes to actually having some protection fog cloud allows you to cast that so other people can't see but of course because you've got that dark vision you're going to be able to see uh through that grease is just overpowered regardless and then of course you got Arcane recovery so whenever you lose your spouse slots and we will talk about that later with Arcane recovery you're actually able to get one of those spouse slots back now let's talk about ability points now the first thing we should really talk about is for anyone that doesn't know an even number is what gets you the point so if you were sitting on 13 and 15 when it comes to Constitution for instance you're not going to get that BFF to your um to your health points it's only when it gets to that even number when you round it up that you will get that that you know initial boost so keep that in mind however I would recommend you take intelligence up to to 17 you can Round Up This stat and of course try to drive this up to 20 as fast as possible as we play through the game Constitution you want up as high as possible dexterity is again you want to put a decent amount of points into Charisma and strength however are kind of dump stats so you can kind of reduce them just so you have extra points available now we've already gone over why the level one wizard is actually pretty good but might recommend ation is you take Firebolt Mage hand and lights lights enables not only you to see because we already have the dark vision but the rest of your party to be able to see when in darkness when in those caves and gives us a little bit of utility then when it comes to actual spells prepared in other words the spells that we're going to be using in battle mage armor is a very good option until we have better choices fog Cloud again until we can upgrade lead that to Darkness is going to be very useful here we've got grease which we're going to be able to combine with that Firebolt to make an explosion or just make people fall over then of course next we have exped Retreat which enables us to have a little bit more Mobility on that Battlefield it is a bonus action as well so we're able to use that and still attack most importantly but all these things can be swapped out for anything else burning hands is really good because this is basically a melee range um AOE so Ena you to attack multiple targets doesn't necessarily do the best damage but the fact that it can attack at melee range is very important then you have magic Missile which will become your bread and butter at the beginning of this game enables you to have that ranged attack does attacks multiple people and does some pretty good damage when when it comes to your skill proficiencies again there is no right or wrong option here do what works best for you and of course make sure the rest of your companions are specializing in something else perception is always an absolute you know one that you're going to want someone in your party to be good at um but honestly anything here is good when it comes to level two is where we can actually become a necromancer we get to pick a specialized ation and of course we're going to be picking Necromancer now as a necromancer we get Grim Harvest that's kind of the you know the ability we get where if we kill somebody in combat once per turn we will get health boost based on the spell that we use to kill that person it can be very very useful we also get the ability to learn two brand new spells now Force life is really useful just to give us a little bit more Health throughout the day it can be used right up until a long rest so when you wake up that is when you use it the other one I would probably pick is uh Tasha's hideous laughter this is a level one enchantment it leaves a creature prone with laughter then you've also got sleep which is a very powerful little spell um enables you to put targets to sleep for a few turns so if there's too many people on that Battlefield um you can put one or two of them to sleep while you deal with the others again at this stage there's no right or wrong answer because we already have um the main things that we are looking for at level three is where things start getting a little bit more creative because we get access to level two spells which is very very useful here we could pick up darkness which would replace are fog Cloud now darkness is very good it's very useful um it lasts 10 turns it does have a very good range though make sure the rest of your party can see and you don't blind everyone we also get access to Misty step which is one of the most useful spells in the entire game I would recommend getting it on everyone you can it is a bonus action and allows you to move around the battlefield then of course we have scorching Ray which you could swap out from Magic missiles a little bit more uh damage here and of course it is a fire element the ray of enfeeblement is another decent one I would look at picking up because for anyone using stealth checks then be doing half the damage they would normally now at level four we don't really get anything particularly special but what I would do is pick up the spells that you haven't picked up already um there's no right or wrong order to the Spells you pick up they are all very good spells and I'm trying to pick out the best ones for you what we do get however was that feat now within the level four feet I would highly recommend you pop up your intelligence and finally we get to some exciting this because here we are level five now at level five there are there are two very very interesting things now first of all this is where we first get access to a level three spell now the first spell you're going to see that is new is animate dead now let me tell you why it would be a mistake to pick it now if you pick animate dead now you're going to have to resec your class because at level five sorry at level six that is when we get animate Dead for free it's something that we just automatically learn so at level five instead of picking animate dead I would recommend you go ahead and pick Fireball or perhaps even counter spell instead now if you did that come level six you are going to get animate dead um for free as a free action if you did pick animate dead that's okay just respect because you don't want to be wasting it after all now with level six we do get Undead thrs and additional Undead when you use an animate dead you also get to raise add an additional corpse and it also stronger as well and better um when it comes to the spells that you picked Fireball is an absolute good one to pick fear again is something I would highly recommend picking counter spell we've already spoken about that it really allows you to have a little bit of extra defense if someone goes to hit you with a spell you can use your own spell slots to protect yourself which I quite like like you also have the gas form again a level three transformation spell um it's also very very useful and has other utility it's really we're at level six where the Necromancer build starts feeling very very powerful as we go up in level now we're going to be able to get more summons and more Undead um and the The Necromancer build is something that really snowballs as you go on and of course if you're ever in a situation where perhaps making a zombie isn't a good answer at this stage we do have Fireballs so if in doubt Fireball everything now with the Necromancer we do get to Target Undead corpses it could be a good idea to have a warrior um class or someone with strength actually keep a couple of bodies in their possession for you because without bodies fresh bodies on the floor you're not going to be able to make yours zombies now when casting zombies you can actually choose between a melee zombie or of course a rain zombie which can be really really useful as you can see though when I'm using these spells they are expending my spell slots and I'm going to have to Long rest to get them back you only have a finite amount of level three level four level two spous slots and long resting unfortunately is the main downside when playing a wizard but there we have it guys that is my Necromancer build class my beginner's guide on a necromancer if you've enjoyed what you've seen so far let me know down in the comments hit that
