The Never-Ending Traffic in Rotterdam in Cities Skylines!

hello everybody welcome back to fix your city with me bitter here we are in the nicely built very small city of Rotterdam sent in by eagle the traffic is pretty rough look at that everywhere through the centre of the city we've got all sorts of things which is a shame because this city's what like it I can't like it it's been built really nicely got some nice little areas around it a nice little industry area which isn't too bad with the traffic until he gets off over here he's going on down here they're coming underneath there here you've got a nice sort of Park area with paths the go go look at this pars everywhere and what is this guy driving oh I guess these aren't pedestrian paths they're loads because there's buses and things ok fair enough i but yeah nice little area there nice little farm area forestry area over there so you know it's not looking at too shabby the city I have to say I do like this little industry area but yeah traffic whoa mama traffic is pretty horrendous so what are we gonna do we are gonna dive in and try and fix this up where the heck do we start normally I like to sort of follow the traffic but if we sort of follow this traffic he comes down there it goes up there it then goes down here well they're coming in this goes I've lost the side of the road I'm on now this all comes down here hits this and this is all coming in and that goes round there in a bit of a circle yeah so I mean this seems to be less of a look let's just check you roundabout I'm pretty sure you've done your traffic managing due diligence and everything you have so that obviously isn't helping at the moment so oh I want to check your transport so you've got a nicely the bus is ok that's good you have one tram line you have Metro hooray glad somebody actually has met you got Metro there you've got Metro over here I sort of going backwards and forwards and you got met through there so I'm guessing one two three four five six men lines or five metro lines what happy well tonight one two three four five six seven so is there another metro loop I'm missing somewhere what'd I tell you I'm assuming you've got two lines pert you got one line on there one line on there one line on there oh here we go look and there's another metro loop around there as well there's another two yeah okay one two three four five yeah ah and there's this one here and that one there cool okay the only thing you don't have is Metro crossing from like one side to the other which is normally a good idea and I would put a metro in here you know what I'm just gonna force a set I'm gonna put a metro loop in here and then we're gonna have a connection coming across to this side to connect those two up let me just do that let me just show you what I've done I've got this loop going down here and we've got two lines clockwise and anti-clockwise and then I just got this little connecting a line going across this way and that is right by a station there and right by the station here so what I've done is I've put a little path underneath if they want to walk from there to there and join that loop they can and then over here where's the two stations want to make sure that they can get from one to be this one yes that comes out there and it's over here so we could just put a little path over the top of the road okay not the prettiest thing but they can now get from this one to this one over here which is good and the stops over this side I put them by the schools you've got your school sort of set up there I put one down there by that school and then we've got these stops up here as well which are all traffic flow 34% very good these stops up here and near to this and there's little crossings over there look you can already see them crossing over from one to the other which is good and then the same at the other end over here so hopefully more people will start using those and then what I'm gonna do is so that connects those loop so now anybody here could travel through all of these get onto those with minimal walking and get firm yet this one's of this one you got them quite close onto that line I'm just walking whether we could do something down here that's not too far away yeah we'll leave it like that so hopefully more people are gonna start using those in the city and that will affect the traffic for the better traffic is getting better already which is fantastic so let's see if we can just take a look at some of these other little junctions that we've got going on here and see if we can fix some of the problems now we've got this little backlog of traffic coming up here they're hitting this nice little oval about which I do like always like a good oval about let's just make sure that is all set up correctly looks like it is and I want that one going on that one going there I'm doing these the wrong way around I want that one go in there yes I want the ones on the roundabout to go through yeah I missed that one I did and that one there okay you've got all sorts of other things turned on as well pick your lanes and things like that but this is quite close so these are stopping there do we have any hidden traffic lights always a bit of a problem yeah look hidden traffic lights you know just cars stopping in a weird place yeah if you could toggle those off for me they talk a lot oh I'll do it this way so are all the traffic lights Junction is part of a timed script ah ah you don't want traffic lights on your roundabouts no no no no go time traffic lights this one and this one okay select modes stop and delete and delete good so hopefully that is it and they're just gonna keep carrying still sort this traffic lights there ah remove time traffic line there we go and there isn't one over there good that's what we want to see and then I can turn them off yeah excellent we get there in the end good grief and then I want to make sure that we've got the give way signs and everything set up correctly so you're giving why you're giving way okay so that's going to just keep that moving Mahler and his traffic's going down already which is what we want to see these guys here are all backing up onto this thing up here so let's just check where they all want to go let's pick that group so they all want to go down here and over this way interesting and they've all come from this direction could we help them out to get into this area here a little bit quicker without having to go through there I mean the first thing that I sort of spotted is we could grab a little slip road and just add a little slip road coming in like here now I'm gonna do it backwards and then I'm gonna turn it around just so we get the curve on there let them come into there might find that they can turn right and get straight into here without any problems if we don't great that road just getting prepared here for the huge amount of cars that are probably gonna come down here and then you can go they're all there and then you can go there there we go and what's and the traffic lights are excellent already somebody's coming down there I'm probably gonna have too many lanes for cars going off here so I'm just gonna do the lane management there commit there we go one lane for off two lanes with allocates done it automatically for me good and we might just see more people coming down and going under here and heading in that way instead of coming all the way down here and getting stuck at this I mean something how she could do is this sort of set out like a roundabout I bet it isn't no let's set this actually out like a roundabout so instead of coming ah this is a weird Junction I want them to come off and join the roundabout there instead of going underneath and joining in here that just like joins it smack bang into the middle of the roundabout which is weird and like the same on the other side they've got this slip lane here I mean I'll leave that one we'll see how it goes and then of course you want these junctions here anybody on the roundabout just keep going through just keep going just keep going just keep going you not you you and you might just find these now and start moving around a bit better you seem to have a weird bit of Lane stuff going on here hmm I'm gonna have you for going off there and I'm gonna have you for coming up there you've got other nodes where you can change it done that you've got straight on oh yeah and then we'll see how that goes what could I look look at that I'm doing all this fixing and it's already gone down they've just spread out gone different places oh nice like it's what we like to see okay I'll leave this area I think yeah this is probably all that traffic that was coming down before eight nine and 10 I put in look at that look at that that is all cars off of the road what's I mean come on now that is just fantastic 60% right this bit up here is looking pretty bad let's see what's going on here first things first check the roundabouts yep give way signs everywhere good then we're gonna check this yep only people on the roundabouts are going through good so they're all coming up there it's always sometimes it's hard to see because of parking and what I like to do is just turn off parking just for a couple of junctions back in each direction so you can just see what's going on and we'll turn it off of there and we'll turn it off okay so now we can see what's going you've got white you've got indices why up against the road here which I would never suggest because you get like guys getting in the way and things like that do you have any bus stops along here you got a bus stop there which isn't too bad it's back from the junction so that one there and you've got one over I'm gonna move that one cuz you got one right there you don't need that one let's just keep that one there none down there none down here okay so no bus stops so then this is becoming a bit of a whole keyboard conjunction here you do have giveaway signs but you've got you've probably got them going straight through which yeah normally I would suggest but in this situation I'm gonna say no which will stop in other cars from coming out and the same here and the same here you've got that one turned off and then what have you got give way give way and also you've got these too many junctions let's have a look that's not a look let's just make sure there's no hidden traffic lights there as well no that's fine that's good and then there so basically it's just because this is so slow so we can get them coming out quicker that would definitely help so you've got the give way you don't need it there you've got the give way so it's just this bit here they're like stopping so where does this guy want to go why is he stopped there so he's trying to turn in here but he's not doing it because of what this traffic down here which is then coming around and stopping here okay there we go so that's explain that then so what we could do just stop them doing that is get our lane tall and say one for turning right one for straight on so now we can use the two lanes and it's not going to block the cars going on and that will probably fix this whole thing I would say it certainly made it better over there let's just take a quick look down here because we've probably got a similar thing here with too many lanes doing too many things so let's just use our lane tool here and say so that one has left that one straight on and this has to be right and straight on machining cars are going to use that I don't know we'll see what happens there left light right and straight on wonderful right to four straight on so now they've got choices and then these guys see I'm assuming this is all one-way roads down here it doesn't look like it oh yeah it is one-way roads I don't want them cutting across I want them going down here and then we could even put a little roundabout down here somewhere to help them come back up there's no room is there yeah I'm gonna say I've lost where I am these guys here it can only turn light and there's only two lanes there so we are going to change that to a that's a three lane to a two lane one-way road going in and then we're gonna say nope you can only turn right no turning lights that is it so just so it doesn't block all of these guys coming in and then I'm just gonna do that same Lane trick coming down here that we just did before so I'll they could both going straight on that's fine get one left one straight on they can't go up there that's fine and then hopefully and then we'll do it we'll carry it on down here cuz again what have we got left straight on um the bus lane I'm leaving from whatever it is because yeah if don't mess that up so left straight on bus lanes fine one straight on one left left one lane for straight or and then it goes round there's because once they get down here it's clear look clear oh this is also much better is it rough it lies there are they all waiting to go left they're all waiting to come down here I'm just wondering that we could tell them not to go there maybe as more cars come down they'll start picking this other Lane and it'll work a bit better yeah we'll see anyway we'll see you know what actually I don't want them to turn there cuz look this is all backing up yeah we're just gonna say you got to go straight on you just got to keep moving because you're blocking air fitting out to keep moving get this all going now they're gonna stop at the next one see somewhere along here a roundabout needs to be put in there we go look it's all cleared out excellent excellent excellent and then why are these guys stopping they're stopping up here because of this traffic you just need to keep them moving off of the main highway and then the curving back round again and just basically blocking themselves running so much better what have I done well I've stopped the cars looping around up here this is now one-way road so everybody has to go up and along I've removed the industry from this frontage on both sides on this road so it can just keep moving and I just bought two little roundabouts in here to deal with this extra traffic but also there is this little road up here now look joining the highway which is what we need to just let some of this traffic out because they were trying to go through I mean got that way coming in how are they getting out they were coming all the way down here to get out so that is now running much better a little bit of traffic there it's good oh I'll tell you why we've actually got industries on the roundabout let's just get rid of those that can stay and I normally just like to back that up just a bit away from the highway yeah so it's gonna be busy here but it's not gonna be too bad what are you all recycling centre grief we want that well out of the way and let's just pop that somewhere out on a side road the way or there we go down there will be good right so that's better this is back in actually no it's not backing up now look it's doing okay coming ins a little bit busy you're all in the bus lane which is slightly annoying yeah that's okay I think it's just a little bit of traffic that's coming it's good about that one for me to see how that goes yeah just letting it run for a while it's okay every now and again you get a little influx of traffic but it's not too bad so I'm just gonna leave that as it is and we're gonna move on to another area so let's just take a look overall how is it going yeah red cuz it's busy but things are moving so that is fine by me down here not looking too shabby all the little white dots are moving all the little white dots are moving have a look a little bit of okie balky lane switching I tell you what you can stop them doing that while getting them to pick their lane over here so if we say you have to go straight on there but as you're coming through here you've already got it on actually look pick your lane so they'll pick it there and stop getting in each other's way there and then this bit here you can stop them getting in each other's way you've almost done it you've almost done it let's just Oh 65 percent if we upgrade that loads or downgrade it to one lane and then you can say coming through here you've got one lane there one lane there which one's got the most traffic I don't know we'll leave it like that and then they can just spread out and merge a bit further down there but look at that instantly that bits all cleared up 63 percent let's hunt around for some more traffic spots okay this little bit here they're all doing Lane switchin lie in the middle let's check out the lanes we've got going on yeah I can see it already so little little bits of troubleshooting like this could just make all the difference all the difference and I want them to pick their lane down here so I'm gonna say you've already got their lane picking thing so that's fine so hopefully now with that change also what I'm gonna do here is I'm gonna say to stop blocking these guys up here if you're turning right just take the one lane and then we've got I'm just gonna say just that one can come in there I'm actually you've got to turn in here so I'm gonna say and you can go there and now they're not gonna block each other anymore and to be honest you could probably just take the traffic lights away as well and that will run much smoother look at that and hopefully this bit up here will go down as well look at that no traffic no traffic and then that'll stop this all backing up around here look as they get out wha sometimes I'm like what nice 62% he made it worse excellent let's have a quick look around here what's going on it's just busy it's moving it's fine I would connect this up as well at the end always do that if you've got one of these little dead ends and you'll instantly start seeing people using it it means they don't have to go down there up there round them back they can just carry straight on down and go round in each other's way there we go we've seen a few of them do it which is good I thought they were gonna make me alive but that makes that much better now so let's just take a quick look what have we got here little traffic hotspot here so you got one two all these lanes coming in whoa okay I'm just seeing if we could be coming here without making it around about okay let's just downgrade some roads you don't need two lanes coming off of here so that's one lane that's one lane that can be one lane I think this is already one lane yeah and that's just a couple of lanes coming in so now we can sort of do a bit of lane management if we pick that we can say it's just pause where's it gone there it is now you can go there you can go there instead of going all sorts of weird places you can go there and you can go there so now they will all come in now this Lane here is coming from this section up there I don't want that coming through and hitting this or those quite few trucks coming up there I think are they cutting through turning around maybe that'll be okay I mean it looks already like it's gonna be okay look there's definitely traffic lights in there isn't there hidden traffic lights right there they weren't hidden they were right in front of my eyeballs and then all we need to do is just make yourself a side road give way like that then you can all just keep going through keep going through you can go through you can go through you can go through through through through there we go nice no more traffic there and then probably just need to make sure yeah oh time scripts I'm gonna leave you time scripts alone and that's looking right to me 60% why's it going down we're doing good things here we're doing good work people and it's getting worse are we back down to this area we were in before we are what's happening here lots of people are crossing over to go to the Metro we're parking that's what's happening there and then they're coming down here and getting stuck here ah look the lanes the lanes is always the lanes one lane for left one lane for straight on too late so they only got one lane for turning and that is like bringing everybody into all of this there's like no other ways in and out of all of this you just need to connect a few other roads so let's just use the one you've got with grass there it is just give people choices give them choices we'll come through there like that so they can get out that way your bus routes will thank you later we could probably have one up there as well I could all your buses at the end all trying to what are they doing well they've all trying to turn around they're all trying to come through here it's like turned it into a main road I know what we're gonna do we're gonna do another little trick which is upgrade that road to a small four-lane road if the game thinks it's a main road I'm gonna make it a main those give it some more breathing room some more space and I might just do that at the end so now they've got extra lanes for turning you ever look down here now we've got one lane for left one lane for right so just help them get through a teeny tiny bit better and that side was all done I'm gonna do the same there yeah bus routes will sort themselves out in fact I'm gonna make this a main road all the way through here there we go up to the end before we don't need to do that bit I reckon that might just help what is the thing don't use the bus lanes I think they're stopping to use the bus lanes now I'll leave that running for a little bit and I also want these guys to stop crossing over here and have a crossing instead although no she's gonna make too much difference cuz this is all backed up anyway yeah okay well let's see what happens all right change your mind this is crying out for a little roundabout it's gonna be the smallest to Lane Road roundabout you've ever seen in your life there we go let's get rid of that Maude is that a organic through to that leave should all be set up okay yeah and let's just see how that helps oh just missed an autosave quit Zippity yeah that little band about has helped a lot it's keeping things moving still a bit of traffic coming from this direction bar they're moving pretty well so I'm pleased with that what are we at 74% it's not going too bad I think we've got to the point where I just need to let the city run a bit just to see how it's going I might troubleshoot a few other spots but it's looking a lot better than it was the red bits are just busy so I'm gonna be back with you in a minute hopefully we can get this baby up to 80% all right that would be fantastic [Music] [Music] [Music] well it took a while but we made 80%
