hello hello so cinderace is my absolute least favorite final evolution for a starter pokemon ever but we're going to ignore my distaste today and have a nice positive positive video i mean after all even the worst mons still do something right besides those ones and cinderace is pretty well inspired i mean most of the fire starters are they tend to all have a little more effort put into them you know likely because fire is cool kids like fire it's always rad it's so neat flip cameras this is all charizard's fault really it's easily one of the most popular pokemon of all time it set the bar really high early on the only starter that has surpassed it is greninja so at least it's not another fire type so what does this soccer playing rabbit have going for it that makes it worry of its own video well let's get into it so let's talk about football it's an old sport the very first example of a team-like sport that involves similar rules to soccer happened 3 000 years ago in mesoamerica and it is known simply as the mesoamerican ball game though the aztec version of it has a more complex name you know how cinderease kicks a rock around as a ball and then it sets it ablaze to kick it well that's not too far off from this ball game the ball they used was made of rock and rubber you would take a stone and wrap rubber around it over and over and over to make a ball though there have been some discovered that are solid rubber and some that even use a human skull instead of a rock but that's uh that's stark but for many this game was more than merely a simple game it had a lot of religious significance the rock ball represented the sun and the two sides of the court were the heavens it was day and night and the game was played to keep the sun moving more specifically they would take the captain of the losing team and sacrifice them to keep the sun moving yeah soccer players went from fighting for their lives to you breathe on them funny or call them a name and they fall over but hey at least we aren't playing a sport to sacrifice people anymore so that's good uh now we just sacrifice basic human decency but for sure keep that ball is the sun part in mind because we will come back to that you're smart i'm sure you see where it'll pop up again sent zone to touchdown is an aztec group of divine rabbits that get together a lot and drink and party and celebrate basically everything any chance they can get and that makes sense soccer is the biggest sport in the world do you know how crazy people get with their drunken parties when the world cup happens but elsewhere on the globe the next step in our football revolution goes to china in the second and third centuries this sport called kuju used a round ball and was played on a square field and it was so popular that it spread all over asia even to japan where it was played in ceremonial events parties and things then later on greece and rome played a similar sport the greeks balls were leathery and vigorously slapped other balls [Applause] but that's beside the point always gotta go for that low hanging fruit the sport was episkiros and the ball they played with was made of leather and filled with leather straps until the romans later learned how to fill them with air they were pretty advanced for the time really but in rome the sport was now called harpastum and it became very big filled huge arenas in front of crowds and spread across their whole empire which includes modern day britain you know the place that galar is based on and every gen8 pokemon is british fast forward to the 12th century we now have medieval soccer during this time it was played in meadows and involved kicks but also punching and in general was a much more rough and tumble sport sort of like modern soccer with some extra rugby bits thrown in but fun fact cinderace reflects this by knowing fire punch and sucker punch this sport also involved a lot of people and huge areas to play in and it was banned for a while because people were having street brawls while playing the game other similar forms of the sport popped up here and there until we got two sports evolved from this primordial ball game rugby and modern soccer though they were basically just child's play a means of exercise and tiring out school children all with very loose rules but during the 15th century football clubs were forming between old students getting together to play these sports again by the 1820s more organized clubs were formed and these are the groups that began organizing competitions finalizing rules and turning these old war sports into the football we know today soccer and now that we've taken a deep dive into soccer we have to go for a dive into another sport because while we were taking a look at pyroball's animation it kind of reminded us of something something other than a soccer kick specifically let's go back to that chinese sport kuju and find an alternate route in the evolution of ball games kuju which i've been mispronouncing this entire time koji is a bit closer uh it was similar to football so similar in fact that fifa recognizes it as the earliest form of the sport i mean it's a field two teams you kick a ball and aren't allowed to use your hands and you get the ball into the other team's net yeah that's just football and it was used by soldiers for military training then for over a thousand years this sport made its way all around asia and this game had gotten many names and in certain regions it's slowly adapted into other games such as gianzi which also spread across asia and is to this day the national sport of vietnam and the philippines until 2009 and considering the sport popped up in the han dynasty the one that was around the year zero yeah the sport lasted quite a while but it was basically unknown in the west until the 1936 summer olympics an athlete from zhengzub showed the game off and it took off globally the countries that soon adopted the sport began calling it things like shuttlecock feather ball or chinese hacky sack even kenja which is uh i'm not gonna get into it then in the 1961 international film festival a film called the flying feather was presented about the sport and it won the gold medal which of course meant that it got a lot of attention which of course meant that afterwards this sport got bigger and it was starting to be taught in european classes to teach kids how to play it which of course only made it grow more as the generations continued on and in 1999 the international shuttlecock foundation was formed in hungary and it then hosted the first championship but anyway this is all just to justify that this still b-tier sport has a potential inspirational purpose in cinderace i mean if you look at the game you can see plenty of normal kicks and lots of kicks just like the way cinderace kicks when he's doing his big ball attack there's even the kicks that act like a volleyball spike but now let's talk about something more british badminton is a very british sport that also involves a shuttle yeah but originally it was played with balls of wool but this was eventually swapped with the shuttlecock the early version of the sport was called puna after the town puna and again this sport has ties to the military but by the 1870s soldiers coming back to the uk started making badminton clubs but honestly we've talked enough about sport federations so let's move on but it turns out we have some interesting ties to mythology here too and if you know anything about chinese mythology you will know about a famous white rabbit who brews the alchemic elixir of life and that rabbit lives on the moon with changa but cinderace has ties to the sun more so so far not the moon but changa's husband has ties to the sun basically the story goes once upon a time there were suddenly 10 suns in the sky and that obviously caused a lot of problems so the jade emperor asked ho ye to deal with it so ho yi went down to earth and drew his bow and fired nine arrows and shot down nine of the suns each one fell to the earth in the shape of a golden crow with three legs the jade emperor got angry at him though and his wife because those sons were actually his kids and so as punishment they lost their godliness and fell down to earth but then eventually found the elixir of immortality and were originally going to split it but because of shenanigans chongae ended up drinking it and got banished to the moon with the rabbit and she lives there now uh well with cinderella's shuttlecock inspiration i suppose this makes sense cinderella's pyroballs could be references to its shuttlecocks being the golden crows i mean male birds are called so there's that connection there and you could say that when cinderace spikes it that crow shuttlecock thing is turning back into a small version of its former sun self and their little little fiery sun balls being kicked at you eh and if you want to squint a little bit you could say that with its g-max form the crows are finally turning back into the sun's they once were it's super big you can see it in the pyroballs design above the eyes shape of a firebird like the golden crows with the three legs it could also explain why the pyroball is said to act as if it had a mind of its own which is kind of weird but maybe that's because it's actually one of these birds but to tie all of this in a nice little bow we can return to aztec mythology this is the god of war and is also the sun he was also who the mesoamerican ball game would often be played for the human sacrifices to help the sun him continue to spin and to achieve victory in battle and have celebrations with all of the rabbit gods and not only was his mother impregnated with him by sweeping a ball of feathers but his headdress is also the literal same shape and material as a shuttlecock and has these long downwards bits just like gigantamax cinderace but is that to say that cinderace is all of these things no at least not necessarily it'd be pretty awesome if all of these things were considered and you know it's the true inspiration but this is all just very loose speculation cinderease could very well just be a cocky player of the world's most popular sport of all time that bird shape on the fireball is just its crown with a bit more of a bird shape for some reason i mean it's fine to just base it on england's love of the sport rather than pull from all over the world even though it's the world's most popular sport and plenty of other pokemon pull from multiple places all over the world look i'm not saying it's true but never stop using your noggin [Music] you
