[Music] Pokemon's sword and shield has a lot of really cool designs for new pokemon in it loads of them that took me by surprise even as I've expressed in other videos and another one of these is just how much I love the new starter bug starter bugs or early bugs are the bug pokemon found super early in the game every game has them Caterpie worm polska waddle spewpa ledyba etc and in this game we got blip bug it's pretty cute I guess mainly I'm gonna be talking about how just Bing awesome or beetle is oh it goes around maybe that's cool as soon as I saw it in the old leaker Rooneys I knew that I was gonna like it and sure enough to seeing it in motion only made it better so in this video we're going to break down this line origins and design inspirations as well as why it's so dang cool and I promise you it's not quite what you're expecting it's way better etymology look bug is easily from blip and bug but what is a blip well what can be used to describe something small it's just a little blip but it's also the term used for the sound a radar makes when it accepts something as you'll see this entire line has a lot to do with radar in fact it's French name is la Rey de love one of them Fred I'm sure I pronounced that right lar Vader it's from larva and radars Doppler has a bunch of dots all over it so dot but the name also references the Doppler effect which is a key part in how radar technology works you know how when an emergency vehicle is passing you it sounds higher pitched as it approaches and then it passes you and it sounds significantly different like blower and slower that's the Doppler effect in action and radar technology can utilize that to figure out where something is in relation to it as well as which way it's moving even it's neat the Japanese name of Doppler is red no mushi from radar and their word for ladybug wait ladybug I guess the spots make it look kind of ladybug II and its evolution as a ladybug come to think of it what the heck why does a caterpillar turn into a ladybug well because that's what they do I didn't know that either ledyba is a stinking lie ladybugs like many have a larvae and pupae stage because up most bugs do why didn't I think of that before lydian more like lydian but we'll get more specific there in a bit let's finish the etymology other languages like French again pull from the word rad Oh which is this thing its shape helps the radar inside of it work better and that shape happens to be what dollar is referencing now the cool one or beetle clearly beetle is beetle because ladybugs are beetles and then orb well magic orbs are commonly used in psychic rituals referencing its psychic typing and when mixed with the word beetle it sounds like orbital referencing things that orbit around the earth like satellites which use radar technology to sense things on the ground as well as since the weather it's how we develop weather forecasts and such so clearly this whole line has a lot to do with radars and that's basically why it's psychic-type radar is used to invisibly sense things around you from enemy submarines to other satellites and clouds orbitals pokedex entry states it emits psychic energy to observe and study what's around it and what's around it can include things over six miles away six miles that's pretty impressive I think Pokemon always exaggerate its real-world numbers and stuff so let's see what actual radar is capable of actual radar is capable of going 170 miles o or it'll kind of sucks then I think maybe this six miles thing is a reference to some old thing let's look back at some old radar Tech and pretty sure most radar Tech was developed in World War two so looking at some radars from World War two we get numbers like 100 miles 60 miles 50 miles guess we gotta go further back 2017 there are some specific aircraft that can only do seven maybe if I specify radar six miles Oh a six mile radar is a thing called a six mile radar specifically from rad ohms even the thing that dot ler is shaped like it's a weather radar which specifically uses the Doppler effect to figure out the weather so cool super cool but now just about every June 8th pokemon has something to do with the British right well radar technology at first was primarily invented by a German and an Italian and at the time it could only detect large metal objects and it was relatively rudimentary then a British dude Robert watson-watt started working on it as a meteorologist and invented the first weather radar you know what rad ohms are for the six mile radar that's our two Pokemon so they're British to cut ding so that's what radar has to do with the UK but what does it have to do with a ladybug like what's that connection well I mean ladybugs or will will it's a lady bird now in it I suppose the ladybugs live in the UK but they live all over the place you know like all over the place like here's a map ladybugs live basically everywhere that isn't Tundra or New Zealand why not New Zealand is it because of the way they treat their ladies I mean I once saw a Kiwi counting how many ladies he had slept with and then he fell asleep well the most common type of ladybug in Europe is the coccynelle acceptance kata that I'm mispronouncing slightly probably also known as the 7 spot ladybird which just happens to fit orbital and its previous Evo's - I mean here's it's larvae and it's pupae the two stages it has before it's a ladybug how awesome is that nice but still ladybugs and radar what's the connection well I bought this old thing from Japan it's called a radar bug these toys were super popular in the 50s and 60s this is also a 7.18 and it did have a global release back in the day but it was made in Japan and it was pretty popular over there maybe this thing has something to do with Game Freak thinking in the context of ladybugs but how is this toy radar well it's not it's a really dumb name you wind it up and then it goes and it can sense when it bumps into things and stops and turns accordingly but that's not because of radar technology at all it's entirely mechanical but I do get the marketing side of it radar was a very new revolutionary technology at the time I mean we're talking about right after world war ii a time period where all of the military advancements were being converted for civilian use so things like radar microwaves airplanes with pressured cabins freeways very early computers and more all advancements where you can thank the war and with these things fresh in people's head space any products that can market itself as one of these new fancy things did so even if it was a bit of a fib this toy is radar because it can sense when it bumps into things essentially it senses its surroundings just like orbital but speaking of orbital speaking of orbital why does it not really look like a ladybug you know like it's got the back thing but that's not its body it's its head it's strange well let's look at its pre pose and figure something out the larva stage blip bug is also a play on the name bookworm you know a bookworm what you would call someone who's stereotypically extremely nerdy and always reading it's got the big glasses the messed up hair and its feelers here any late a bowtie it's your stereotypical depiction of a nerd or a bookworm as a poopa it becomes a scientist its eyes now look like science goggles it is feelers can be seen as a wide bowtie or a moustache or maybe some messed up hair again think like Einstein this little scientists developed radar hence it's portable lab looking like a radome and with this radar technology it's essentially developed its psychic typing it can now sense its surroundings super well but now tired of being picked on all its life for being a nerd it advances its technology further and becomes orbital look at this design and tell me it doesn't scream generic technology-based supervillain its pokedex entries even mention its mind-control abilities and how generic is a supervillain working on mind control technology to take over the world orbital is it a little mad scientist it's got the crazy eyes too flimsy body this moustache thing lots of sharp corners has this strange headpiece and the ladybug body is actually its head which houses its massive brain again big brain supervillains are another trope and when it Giganta maxes it becomes an entire UFO capable of pretty advanced planetary orbits right also minor tangent at one point NASA brought ladybugs to space for an experiment and in this experiment they found out that ladybugs actually do pretty okay in zero-gravity so there's that but also the Pokedex states that if it were to utilize every last bit of its power it could control the minds of every living being within its vicinity now not only are alien UFOs made of advanced technology humans are incapable of understanding but also the classical UFO aliens are known for probing humans to take control of their minds Plus think of the trophic am big brain alien villains yeah now get this what do ladybugs have to do with mind control and why does orbital really look very little like a ladybug besides the big head well the answer to both questions is the same as finding this out actually got me bouncing with excitement because it's so dang cool so orbitals eyes are this cool light green cyan II color right that's not what ladybug eyes are colored ladybugs also don't have super thin bodies like this but you know it does Dinah campus Cox Illinois also known as the green eyed wasp so wasps are already seen as pretty evil and villainous compared to most be like em sex right now check this out oh hey that wasp it's here with the ladybug what does that wasp have to do with that lady but oh oh oh no what does that wasp doing to that ladybug [Music] Timm Timm snap out of it mmm Tim what's gotten into you I must stand God there's no time come on we gotta go no Gregory there is no going I must protect these eggs look the wasp eggs Tim have you gone mad no Gregory something compels me I must stand guard and protect these eggs Tim no yes oh what's that another ladybird we just in time I'm about to lay another egg and it needs protecting now come my slave you have an anchor to God oh joy I don't know why but protecting your eggs just feels like the thing they need to dedicate my life to though Tim you were right this is awesome indeed really [Music] so the green-eyed wasp Zomba thighs and mind controls ladybugs specifically to stand guard and protect their babies from other who would be predators such as aphids they don't kill the ladybug because then it wouldn't be standing guard and also because this way it's still alive when the eggs hatch so it's food for the babies but thankfully it's not the end-all be-all for the ladybug apparently around 25% of them do manage to snap out of the mind control and leave before they die but still that's pretty spooky right quite villainous and get this while ladybugs live basically everywhere in the world the green eyed wasp lives you know just take a guess take a guess where it lives where where does the green eyed wasp call home huh go on yeah it's the British Isles every Jenny Pokemon is British it's the freaking wasp and the ladybug combined to form a mind controlling radar techno fillin hell-bent on revenge for being picked on as a bookworm you thought it was just a ladybug but no it was me all along all these lame-o's that say new pokemon designs are uninspired and bad or butyl is just a ladybug with a stupid head nah man I'm pretty sure you're the one with a stupid head how about them apples yeah what do you think let me know down below and please consider supporting us on patreon or our merch store every bit helps a bunch so until next time please never stop using your noggin and [Music]
