oh no hello Travelers welcome to lore Spire today we're going to be talking about necromancers I'm going to show you my Necromancer build that I'm currently using in my tactician mode playthrough I've heard some Rumblings that maybe necromancers are not very good in Boulder's Gate 3 and I'm here to dispel that because that is not the case so they may not have the sheer power of say an evoker or something but the undead that they can raise are more powerful and deal more damage than the undead that anybody else can raise and they can raise more of them okay there's a lot of usefulness and versatility and damage involved in all of that so anyways I'm just going to walk you through my Necromancer build on the right side of the screen you'll see some combat so you can kind of get an idea of what the Necromancer and its minions can do okay so starting out at the beginning I like to choose human because humans can use Shields they start out with the shield proficiency and so that's just an easy way to gain two more AC and since staves are one-handed in this game you can still use them no problem all right for the background I chose uh dark urge choose whatever you want though for your background now for your starting spells we're gonna take uh poison spray light just because light is super useful and helpful in this game and then we're gonna take bone chill of course because we are a necromancer and then your starting spells pretty much what's on here is what's good uh Tasha's hideous laughter ice knife Mage Armor magic Missile uh instead of false life let's take Shield and Ray of sickness okay all oh by the way this is kind of an RP build so there's not going to be any fire or acid those damager corpses we can't use them uh there's not going to be like lightning and thunder and wind you know we're sticking to the necromantic Spells poison spells you know uh neutral spells stuff that makes sense for a necromancer from an RP perspective anyways that's level one our ability scores right here are going to be 8 14 14 17 12 and 10 to start off with you want to change that up you can but I find this to be the best later on in the game you will find these gloves right here that you see on screen and whenever you do if you want you can respect and dump your dexterity and use that to bump up your Constitution and your charisma or strength or whatever it is that you want to bump up but until then I would ride with uh with this that allocation right here pick whatever you want for your skill proficiencies that's up to you now at level two you get to choose your subclass and of course we're choosing necromancy and I think that Boulder's Gate 3 really drops the ball here with this kind of stuff whenever you're creating a character whenever you're choosing a subclass you do not get to see all of the things that you will get in the future Pathfinder Wrath of the righteous and King maker did this so much better with the character cards that they had so necromancy at first glance does not really look all that appealing you know learning necromancy spells is 25 gold per spell level instead of 50 if you learn it from a scroll uh you get necromancy Savant which is what I just said and then you get Grim Harvest which gives you hit points back whenever you kill a creature as long as that creature is not Undead and it's not a construct uh gives you temporary hit points rather uh you know which is actually pretty decent because even a small amount of hit points in this game can make a large difference but still this does make necromancy seem pretty underwhelming but don't worry necromancy gets some abilities later that make it much much much better now for our uh level one spells here we're gonna go ahead and take a false life that's necromancy of course and it can be helpful and then you could take pretty much whatever you want longstrider is a good idea just because that's a buff that's not concentration lasts until long rest can be helpful for everybody okay now at level three of course we get level two spells and here we're going to take cloud of daggers I consider that a neutral spell it's extremely powerful even later in the game it's still pretty decent so yeah we're gonna go ahead and take cloud of daggers and we'll take Raven feeblement since that is a necromancy spell and it actually can be pretty helpful at times now here at level four we'll get a new can trip I suggest taking Rey a frost Ray of Frost is really nice especially once you get to level five and it's damaged doubles now here for spells we're going to take hold person and you can take pretty much whatever else you want from the rest of this I would just stay away from the fire and stuff like that for RP reasons phantasmal Force is really not that good it seems like it should be I don't suggest taking it but if you want to for RP reasons go ahead we're going to take Misty step because every Caster should have missed the step it is awesome and amazing okay so for our first feat we want an ability Improvement put both points into intelligence and I would suggest going to see the hag let the hag live okay make a deal with her let her live don't kill her before she talks to you at the end of combat once her health is low let her talk to you and then you should be able to get an item that will increase your intelligence by one so this will give you 20 intelligence by the time you get your fourth beat all right level five and we get to choose level three spells and for level three spells the obvious one is animate dead now you do actually get animate Dead for free at level six so it's up to you if you want to take it here or not but personally I would take it because that's what being a necromancer is all about and yeah so we're gonna take animate dead and we're gonna take counter spell counterspell is extremely powerful and to me it's very necromantic um despite being AB duration anyways counter spell very good let's get that okay so right here at level six we get Undead thralls when you use animate dead you can raise an additional corpse and this is actually incorrect you can raise an additional corpse per like spell level basically you just raise double corpses so if you're casting it as a level three spell you get to raise two uh dead but if you're casting it as a level four spell you actually get four dead the way that it's described here it sounds like three so it's better than the way that it's described and I actually prefer the skeletons to the zombies their damage is good and their ranged attacks allow them to stay back and stay out of Harm's Way and just Pelt enemies with arrows kind of like the artillery barrage anyways we also get Undead thralls and this right here is what really really makes uh The Necromancer much better along with additional Undead of course so we get better summons and we get additional Undead the better summons are creatures created with anime dead have additional hit points equal to your wizard level and your proficiency bonuses added to their damage so you not only get to summon twice as many Undead as anybody else but they're going to have more hit points and they're going to have more damage very useful very useful now the spells that we want to go ahead and choose here we're going to take bestow curse and we're going to take vampiric touch some nice necromancy spells that are helpful okay now at level seven we're gonna go ahead and take blight good strong single Target damage and we're going to take ice storm some good AOE damage now here at level eight there are a few choices you could make personally I like banishment and Everett's black tentacles but if you wanted to take a confusion that would certainly fit odoluki's resilience fear I don't think it's really that good but it would also fit and phantasmal killer definitely fits from an RP perspective however I find that enemies save against it too often so I don't like to use it that much anyways we're gonna take banishment and Everett's black tentacles here and then for a feat if you did not get the buff from the hag to your intelligence go ahead and take another ability Improvement to get your intelligence to 20. but if you did and hopefully you did then you want to take warcaster okay taking more Caster here this is just going to give us advantage on saving throws to maintain concentration on a spell and we're going to have a lot of concentration spells that we use so we want to make sure that those do not break now at level nine we're gonna take Cloud kill definitely classic Necromancer spell uh you can take whatever else you want here that kind of fits hold Monster not a bad choice dominate person not a bad choice even planar binding maybe not a bad choice but for me cone of cold is the best choice here so yeah Cloud kill and cone of cold now at level 10 we get to choose another can trip and really at this point take whatever you want we're going to take minor illusion just because it can be helpful in gathering enemies for an AOE and then for our spells we're gonna go ahead and take dominate person and hold monster okay now here at level 11. we need Circle of Death we are a necromancer Circle of Death is a must so we're going to go ahead and take that and then there are some other choices here take whatever you want I like disintegrate I think the next most but uh we also have create Undead here and we're going to go ahead and take that because we are a necromancer and then at level 12 we'll go ahead and pick up disintegrate and we're going to pick up wall of ice the damage on these two is just too good and they fit our our RP so we definitely want to pick up those and if you want to pick up other spells here like otoluki's freezing sphere or globe of invulnerability or whatever you know just learn those from some Scrolls anyways our last feat is going to go to Elemental Adept and we're going to choose cold damage unless of course you had to use two ability improvements in which case you would be taking War Caster here that's a necromancer build that I promise you is good enough for tactician you can have fun with it there's a lot of utility to it there's some pretty good damage to it but anyways I hope that this helped you out this has been Chris with lore Spire be well my friends
