Lenny shows off the Glock 45, and yes… it's a 9mm!

[Music] hey there it's Lenny Miguel with the Glock store performance and Custom Shop right here in San Diego California today I want to talk to you about the new Glock 45 it's a Gen 5 Glock 45 that shoots 9-millimeter so don't we be confused because it's like okay it's a 45 but it shoots 9 Miller yes there's a Glock 45 that just came out and it's part of the crossover series that Glock is introduced in the crossover series I think is a great concept and really there's some neat things about this that we're going to talk about and also go through all the little enhancements that they made to make this you know really a neat gun I think first and foremost the crossover series is similar to the Glock 19 X which means that this gun has a Glock 17 frame size okay the frame is 17 yet it accepts a Glock 19 upper or slide so the frame is a full-sized grip with a compact upper a great concept for law enforcement because a lot of those guys are sitting in cars and as the gun sits on their waistband it pokes into the seat the longer barrel does so that extra half an inch difference between the 17 and the 19 slide will make a lot of difference in the comfort of how that gun sits there when you're sitting in a car and you have the frame jetting into or jumping into your side because it's hitting the seat itself doesn't have with everybody but it happens with enough officers that I've heard it you know probably 20 or 30 times in fact what happened the Glock came out with the Glock 19 X first and it was in coyote and you know people say oh it's a great concept you know and some agencies allow you to carry a coyote colored gun but most agencies in larger cities require the gun be black so a lot of people while they like the 19 X could not buy or could not wear or carry in either on the duty on the day to day basis then the coyote colored Glock 19 X they like the concept for sighs grip smaller compact slide but they could not carry it because it was coyote in color so hands clock you know kind of listens everybody and they came out with the black version and they modified it a little bit from the 19 X because the 19 X was designed really for the military so what they did is they kind of took the crossover concept and applied it to a law enforcement side and really they built this you know with that law enforcement audience in mind now let's go and talk about it is it Gen 5 so it's got some of the Gen 5 characteristics which are the ambidextrous magazine release button as well as the ambidextrous well actually the magazine release button is reversible okay so let's just say that because yeah it's either right-handed or left-handed but the slide stop or slide release is in fact ambidextrous now this is a an unloaded gun here to notice again to the Gen 5 has the orange follower that's one of the things they did differently on the magazine everything else is really the same the baseplate is a little bit bigger in the front but the orange follower is a big thing a lot of people are now upgrading there are other magazines they're older magazines with the orange follower and we do sell that as a separate item okay so this gun is in fact empty pulling the trigger in a safe direction okay so we were talking about the ambidextrous slide stop also known as a slide release so you'll see that it's on both sides so which is good for you lefties to be able to manipulate that certainly it does interfere with some holsters but a lot of manufacturers will respond to that and making sure that it does in fact fit so that's one thing it may want to check out the other thing we know now to be quite honest if you're really set on this gun and your holster is interfering with that well you can actually cut that off inside there right at about this point right here leaving most of the u-shape that is shaped there and get rid of that piece dangling out there just go ahead and take a dremel right to it and just cut it right off we've done it several times for people so that's something to consider so let's talk about some of the other features on this Glock 45 which is also a nine-millimeter that has the crossover frame and slide concept it's got the modular back strap system the MBS clocks like the Alexa to refer to it basically the same as a Gen 4 it allows you to increase the grip it comes with different size grip panels and you'll notice it comes with the grip panels that have the larger beaver tail and the grip panels that are flat or don't have that larger beaver tail the beaver tail of course wouldn't allow you to kind of get a higher grip on the gun without getting that slide bike see how my skin gets up over top that and I could potentially get bit there and you know everybody's done it once or twice but that beaver tail really makes a big difference and it kind of snaps right in place and then gets captured with one of the pins or longer pins the pins are also attached to this little guy right here you see that pin right there there it is and I think there's one on the other side nope there's only one yeah so you don't lose that now we do sell those separately to hate to say we sell these separately as well because a lot of people well you know when it's floating around if it gets out of your case boom you forget it and then it's gone so let's go ahead and talk more about that so we talked about the MBS now Glock likes these acronyms so the other one they use is the G M B Glock marksman barrel okay so supposedly this new gen 5 barrel has a better rifling and gives you better accuracy than the Gen 4 barrels or the gen 3 barrels so I haven't proved that out yet but I believe it I believe they clocked went to some added lengths to give better accuracy in this particular barrel now one thing to keep in mind the Glock 17 Gen 5 barrel is not backwards compatible you can't put that into your gen 3 or Gen 4 gun however the Glock 19 barrel the Gen 5 barrel is backward compatible and likewise the gen 3 barrels and gen4 barrels are upward compatible to the Glock 19 so this particular gun will accept a Gen three barrel or Gen 4 barrel but it comes with that new g mb glock marksman barrel which again Glock claims is more accurate and again I believe because you know they do a lot of research and development and it looks like it's got a different crown here you can see that that's the one thing that I'm noticing so I'll do some testing on this another video just to see for myself maybe do a bench press test and see if we are getting better accuracy than the Gen 3 Gen 4 barrels alright the other thing here is they they claim and they say this is a non-reflective black finish and it it kind of looks that way you can see I've got light kind of coming off of it and doesn't really you know shine too much there's a little bit of Sheen right there but not a lot compared to some of the other guns we manufacture the frame texture they claim has been enhanced and it has been I can feel the difference it's a little bit nuttier it gives a little bit more traction and you can notice that just by looking at it it has a little different than some of the Gen 4 guns we've seen before I think all the Gen fives are like this the other thing is very noticeable are the front serrations which I just love we do this as a an aftermarket cut in our machine shop all day long people really love the front serrations it allows you to come up and actually press check and look or rack the slide and look you can really get you know just a lot of that action being able to do that versus coming back here so a lot of times you want to press check and just look inside the barrel and see if there's a round inside that so again press check is where you just go ahead and open it up just a little bit just so you can peek inside the chamber area to see if there's a round inside or if it's fully seated and so the front serrations really help that and again we talked about the ambidextrous slide stop and the reversible magazine catch or mag catch magazine release button that will switch on other sides the other thing too of course it triggers a little bit different it does you know have a what they call the Glock Gen 5 connector so it's a little bit lighter than the Gentry's in ghent force but what's interesting to me is that this gun with this larger frame and shorter slide is a big hit people really like it when they touch and they feel living wow this is a great package obviously a little bit lighter than a Glock 17 because of the shorter slide and you know it has a slightly flared magwell but well you'll notice that's missing from the the gun versus the 19 X is the lanyard loop that comes that were sticking out of the bottom there is an option that of course you can put it in and put it out and the cut out on the frame for you to be able to remove the magazine again that was at military requirement you'll notice that the the magazine doesn't stick out at all really to be able to rank it out so I don't really have anything to grab hold of but you know they fall out by themselves they should at least and that's a Glock design them overall this is a you know a big hit we've already got some traction on the sales a lot of law enforcement guys are jumping all over it because a fact again it's got that shorter slide and it's much comfortable much more comfortable to actually sit with it because that slide isn't poking down so far and if you sit in a car you know eight hours a day and you've got a gun on your side and you've got that big old holster every half-inch really makes a difference from that thing poking into your side so it's gonna be a big hit it's the Glock 45 Gen 5 Glock 45 that shoots 9-millimeter alright and so you also notice of course it has just one pin above the trigger there because it is nine-millimeter and the story there is course you know the original Glocks the very first Glock started with one pin just a trigger pin and of course the trigger housing pin in the back as they introduced the 40 caliber that's when they noticed that there was some degradation on the frame because of the more explosive cartridge the the higher velocity cartridge and so they added a second pin for the locking block as they now have just done these Gen fives in nine-millimeter only they went back to the one pin which is very interesting you know because who would have thought well why why not put a second pin in there but you know again Glock figured out that you know what it works great with one penis simpler easier and here we go so I'm wondering and probably a lot of you are now gonna wonder are they gonna do a Gen 5 in a 40 caliber or 45 caliber times gonna tell and I'll be here to let you know I'm Lenny McGill
