[Music] [Music] you [Music] [Music] so [Music] this [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] this is our story the black church has sustained the african-american people from the days of slavery to this day i don't know how we could have survived as a people without it the role of music in the black church is everything we had to have some individual and institutional arm in order to preserve our sanity we are a testament to the goodness and the grace of god the black church tune in our stream tuesday february 16th at 9 8 central only on pbs [Music] i have a word in my belly and it is this it doesn't matter if you live underneath a bridge it doesn't matter if you live in a mansion what matters in the next season as god has shown it to me is not what you have on you but it is who you have in you and have you been touched by the oil [Music] and i prophesy to everybody watching me today it's your time well good morning and welcome to the lighthouse worship experience and happy valentine's day for all those that are in love on today we celebrate you and for all those who are in the spirit of anticipation we greet you in divine love for the bible says that love endures all and suffers all and it ends and says love never fails i want to let somebody to know that today that love never fails let's go to god in prayer our father and our god we thank you today god for what you are doing doing in the light in those eyes of your weep but we praise pray for this day we give you the glory god for what you're doing in the atmosphere and for god those that are assembled watching this worship experience on today god we pray right now that you would do something on the inside of them god we ask you right now kind father destroy yokes and bind and release burdens in the name of jesus god we speak to those that are dealing with health issues right now we say god send a word through this sermon god that shall heal their mortal bodies in the name of jesus god we thank you god that even as we celebrate love god we declare and decree that every marriage that's on the rocks god we say god you're amending it now in the name of jesus so god we speak to our minds our attitudes line up god we speak to our thoughts and say thoughts line up in the name of jesus and for god those that are in anticipation this year we thank you god that you're going to send the right person to them help us to work on ourselves so that when they come we can be ready to receive all that you have for us god we thank you for our children for how you're covering us and because of the blood of jesus you're allowing all good things to be under your protection under your wings we give you praise we give you the glory and we give you honor for the sweet spirit that rests in this place have your way in jesus name i'll be committed to you i'll never leave you nothing in this world could make me walk away no matter what life may bring i'll be by your side no matter what you face you won't be lonely because forever is a long time that's how long i love you that's how long i'll love you forever [Music] forever is a long time that's how long i'll love you i've been so long i'll love you forever no matter what life may bring i'll be by your side no matter what you'll face you won't be lonely and this is my promise to you my love is everlasting you can count on me to be there always forever [Music] forever for the rest of my life forever love you forever listen i'm committed to you i'm committed to you singing do it again [Music] that's how long i love i you you forever you want to believe that it's beautiful everything you imagine it to be you want to call it perfect but you know that's far-fetched a bit of a stretch but either way you've met your match your perfect her or him just as they show in a romance film with a happily ever after where they always leave out the after because it's not always that beautiful sometimes it's as ugly as a sleepless night because all you seem to do is fight a week-long argument where you can't seem to agree talking in circles always coming back to i'm hearing you but you're not hearing me and when you get to that point all you can do is get on your knees and pray and praise praise god for the covering the hand he keeps over your marriage and over mouths that try to speak evil when things appear to be going south praise the memories and the moments the times where only you two understood where the silence of your glances spoke more than your words ever could praise the words and the times you've both kept them even when it was hard even when you questioned the dealings of your cards praise the dealer because he dealt your steps long before you were born to take any and since you vowed to be there for better or worse no matter how many times the worst would have came you stay and praise your partner appreciate the process it took for them to get to you thank them for putting up with the things that you put them through praise the through because the journey is never ending a lifelong sequence of tests and trials for endless smiles with many a tears but twice as many smiles praise the smiles and the joy and the pain and the sunshine and the rain praise the growth and the lessons and the blessings they each bring and the strength that help you stand the test of time each time you see another anniversary or a holiday like valentine's or all the time praise all the time to god for love for we want to call it beautiful everything we imagine it to be we want to call it perfect and we think that's far-fetched a bit of a stretch but we only be human but god knows that in him with him love is god and god is it and it is so amen and so be it come on everybody clapping like this yeah it's a love thing y'all come on [Music] here we go let's go y'all hey how can it be [Music] [Music] [Music] all i wanna do is nobody but [Music] [Music] i gotta help yeah see how that mean for chuck e cheese started taking my trash out and stuff i was like okay then my friend from college is his best friend like brother and he was dropping him off at his parents condo across the street from my condo and he randomly was like hey i got a friend i'm gonna send him over and i was like no don't send him to my house nah i'm not going over some chick i'm telling those houses gonna you know get me stabbed or something so uh he was like well i'll just give her your number and i was like well first let me see let me see what you look like let me see what you look like so we went on facebook you know went ahead and saw the picture and was like yeah okay okay cool um well i seen him around campus and i noticed that he was a new guy and so i was like okay i haven't seen him around before let me check him out so i just kept eyeing him for a while i noticed he was different and then one day i said hey excuse me can i talk to you for a second and now we're here we made met each other in 96 college sweethearts once i met her um as i got to know her her heart she just had such a peaceful spirit her heart was so sweet and genuine i mean if i could have married her then i would have if i was actually transitioning from a very difficult and selfish relationship and i realized at that point it did a lot of damage to my heart as far as what i knew about how people can connect but man when we got in order man blessings flowed and it was nothing that i felt like was impossible for us when we started conquering all types of things you know we started raising a family you know we started developing seed uh as our children you know we started feeding each other's visions and dreams and supporting it i think we've had a a quite quite a wonderful ride i think we've gone through some ups and some downs but all in all i think what really has made us really work is that even despite all the you know i love yous and and everything that we really put forth the effort to put god verse and i know it's a little bit cliche but it's really the biggest part of what drives me to love you more and try to be the best husband and father that i can in our relationship well babe you know i love you you're my everything um you might ride or die um i love you i love everything that you add to my life every day i wake up because of you and i want to be the better man than i was yesterday the pandemic has given me the opportunity to really be close to you to see you every day to be around you i love you i need you there's nobody else in this world that i would rather be with and so whatever comes our way just know that i will do anything and everything to make sure that we come out of this okay all right and well [Music] i don't want to love anybody but you what a great song as you see we have so many of our lovely couples in here today and it is a love feast it's a love day but we came really to express our love and gratitude for god and one of the best ways i've ever found to express love is by way of a gift and that's why we pause right now as we always say every week it's giving time it is more blessed to give than it is to receive and the most important part of any relationship it's not the receiving it's the giving it's the reciprocity that comes with give and take it's the reciprocity that comes with being last when you feel like you want to be first and at this moment as you get ready to give i want you to know that this is reciprocity because whatever you released today it was already preceded by the gift that jesus christ had already given on calvary he gave us his only begotten son that whosoever would believeth in him would not perish but have everlasting life for those of you all who live in the houston area and you physically used to come in the days when we could meet to one of our in-person locations and you still bring your tithes and you're offering to the storehouse we bless god for you for those of you all who mailed it in we thank you for those of you all who give through our app our texts to give we thank you so much and for those of you all who are a part of lighthouse 2.0 and you give through givlify we thank you so much they're going to put a link up on the screen right now and it's going to show you exactly how to give but let me tell you how you give is not associated with the link how you give is not associated with a stamp how you give it's not associated with the push of a button the bible says how should we give we should give cheerfully it doesn't matter which one of those methods you use if you don't give it cheerfully you won't reap the reward that comes with reaping and sowing i want you to condition your heart now to make sure that the gift that you're getting ready to release comes from a cheerful heart if you were in one of our sanctuaries right now i would tell you to hold your gift up in the air and wherever you are wherever you are in the world i want you to hold your gift up in the air and i want you to repeat something after me that i believe is going to break strongholds over your relationship with money with your money because the bible says watch this that money is not the root of all evil it's the love of money that is the root of all evil and as we talk about love today i want you to make sure that you love the giver more than you love the gift that you love the one who sacrificed his life to make sure that you would never have another day of poverty and i curse poverty over your family i speak more than enough over your family i speak overflow over everything in your household in the name of jesus some of you all have never experienced it before but maybe nobody's ever decreed and i decree it and declare it over your life that after you release the seed things shall never be the same hold that gift up in your in the air if you want to close your eyes for the sake of sacredness and i want you to repeat after me as i move towards greater i will accept all divine ideas thoughts and or concepts that will lead me to my destiny say this like you mean it i believe that what jesus christ has for me is bigger than anything that can be against me i want you to say this personally i want you to say besides the gift i stand beside the savior and i believe that this gift will break strongholds shatter curses and set my family up for an everlasting run or you got to say it like you mean it and say this because of this full gift i will lend to many nations but will borrow from none if you believe that i dare you to shout in california i dare you to shout in florida wherever you are in your house i dare you to shout in nigeria i dare you to shout all over the world and let the church say amen likewise it's the second sunday and it is our tradition to take part in the holy communion maybe in your house right now i don't know i don't know if you can do this but real quick maybe you can one run to the refrigerator maybe you got some some grape juice somewhere maybe maybe you've got some bread somewhere i don't know if you can hurry up and do this and listen i think that the lord will be okay if you use pancake and juice or whatever you got i he's whatever you have as often as you do this i want you to do this in remembrance of the savior there's an old song that says i was sinking deep in sin far from the peaceful shore very deeply staying within sinking to rise no more but the master of the sea heard my despairing cry and from the waters he lifted me now safe am i y'all want to sing that together do y'all feel like y'all know the words today i was sinking deep in sin far from the peaceful shore very deeply staying within seeking to rise no more but the master of the sea heard my despairing cry and from the waters he lifted me now safe am i everybody sing it with me love lifting me sing it love live deadly when when when [Music] [Music] can we sing it one more time [Music] sing it one more time [Music] but when nothing else [Music] so i want you to take that bread that wine whatever you've gotten in the meantime i've got mine and the bible says that jesus says to them take this bread for it represents my body my broken body eat all of it [Music] likewise he took the cup which represented the blood of jesus christ at the lighthouse church we put the blood above our heads signifying that we are covered by the blood jesus said to his disciples drinking all of it father name of jesus as often as we do this we do it in remembrance of you we remember not from a psychological perspective but we remember as the members of the body we come together and we remember your sacrifice and thank you jesus christ that you didn't stay in the grave but on sunday morning you got up despite all of your challenges with all power in heaven and in earth and because you have all power we can face tomorrow we thank you that not one person under the sound of my voice shall be defeated in jesus name we pray amen thank god it might sound strange but uh i had to sting with my favorite song doesn't get its played as much because hearing the same thing over and over again eventually gets taken for granted that's why i tell you i love you in different ways like let me know you make it home or what did you eat today babe i hate to see you stressing let's bow our heads and pray i want to make conversations with god about each other i would love language because sometimes i feel like you like the thought of love like the thought of you deserving something so pure could only happen in a daydream or that happily ever right before the credits roll in the movie screen well would you believe me if i told you were gorgeous i think your laughter should be played in museum hallways and you smile your smiles should be captured at every angle i'm certain it'll be one of my favorite portraits i can only imagine god at an empty canvas putting in over time to create a work of art better yet a masterpiece even van gogh couldn't kept your better starry night to master shooting star i wish upon every time i gaze in your presence how do you expect me to sleep when you're gonna be the only thing that i see i mean a smile is radiant as yours awake any man out of his dreams but a few make the mistake of sleeping on you i just can't see myself doing the same call me clingy but how am i supposed to spend a second a day not thinking about you when your presence fills me with life marginal lines become levees as the inkwell runs over from brainstorming of infinite ways this i admire you you inspire me to write truthfully i really want to talk about how beautiful you are for the next two to three minutes but then that'll make me delusional because that's like giving god limits or trying to pull the ocean into a glass to say you're beautiful is an understatement your orphee's my soul i'm in the presence of a blessing you're my love for dinner ambition for breakfast and after every meal i have your intellect for seconds wishing i could heal your past be the daydreams of your future while i bask in your presence an angel in disguise when you speak i see heaven effortless intentions making me fall in love with the simple wisdom of my name being mentioned staring through the windows to your soul i find peace and perfections lust everything that makes us human everything that makes us timeless i've always heard pressure buzz pipes so i apply enough pressure so that your love and my love makes a diamond and you can have a key to my heart throw it into your bits of trust so i never find it someone to confide in someone i can run to if actions speak louder than words then every gesture i make shows how much i love you and you feel my touch every time i thought about you which means i'll be holding you forever and if my soul dies twice i'll still be holding you in my third afterlife the perfect sunset when you smile i find comfort in the light and when your face is painted with shades of gray i want you to forever reign over me you need water for this rose to grow so when you cry drink the holy water from your eyes giving me life hoping my flesh dies daily when one of my dreams in reality you're the perfect lady my best friend the roots of my tree of life long before we met when god created you he anointed your bloodline so that only you can fit my type an overflow of blessings angel-like silhouette with an impeccable complexion i love it when you stand right in front of me because i am your reflection grasping and holding your curves the hourglass i wanted to count every grain of sand until i'm breathing what's left of the sky in my hand yes you the very error i breathe and like i said you're the roots of my tree and my reflection so i'll look in the mirror when i need help and give you the very worse in my mouth you'd always know how i felt enough of the masquerading i see the goddess in your eyes and if i was cupid i would shoot a thousand arrows by your side intentionally missing to show you that i tried emphasizing that the blissful intentions that i have for your heart shall remain tamers and i wouldn't dare preach to perfection if you're the answer then i have a million questions the blessing so forever is a long time and isn't it amazing that we serve an eternal god so forever is not a problem for him uh he doesn't operate in time time is god's way of allowing us to keep up with him but he is the one who was and is and is to come to him a day is but a thousand years in a thousand years it's just but one day so i thank god that he allows us to love him in time but he loves us eternally and what you represent as you sit here and those of you all who are watching us who are so fortunate to be in commitment today's message is designed to get us to understand that we could never love each other properly if we don't find how to love god correctly it is impossible to love a person if you don't love him the scripture says how can you love a god whom you've never seen but you cannot love people who you see daily i thank you for those of y'all who've made it through the struggle who try them through hell and hot water who've been to the red sea and back climbed out of your pits escape from potiphar's house escape the arrows the dangers as the old church would say the toils and the snares and you've made it from the rest of us we say thank you for your example on this valentine's day we wanted to celebrate love in a most auspicious way and i'm so grateful to have heard uh the uh spoken word poetry by the young lady and the gentleman and i thank them off camera uh for using my words uh those are that's the way i talk all the time i just i and i i got on them about not giving me credit because i think what they did is they just listened to me in the hallways at the church and took notes and they just came out and told you how i talk they were amazing talking about ivs and veins and arrows i was just amazed to hear the songs sung by our sumstring to hear the beautiful voice of kefir rollerson and to all of those who our staff of musicians and volunteers i i wanted to tell them before i spoke to you i love y'all i love you and i appreciate you today we're just kind of unorthodox you've heard me scream before today i want to see if you can hear me think i want to see if you can hear me talk but i will use the word of god because i believe that the word of god is definitely a lamp to our feet and a light to our path and i want you to go with me to the book of hebrews chapter hebrews chapter 6 verse number 12. and this may be a little unorthodox you may say pastor what in the world i know my bible and what does hebrews 6 and 12 have to do with valentine's day well maybe nothing at all but today we're not celebrating a day we're just talking about love and isn't it true the bible says that god is love so when you're talking about love you're actually talking about god the bible says in hebrews chapter 6 verse 12 he says and i'm reading the king james version of the bible that ye be not slawful but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promise it is my prayer today that by the time we finish this discourse that i would position you to inherit the promise to inherit the promise and god has promised each and every one of you something that you have not seen before eyes have not even seen your ears they've never heard the good things that god has in store for you because you my brother you my sister in fact do love the lord that ye not be everybody say slawful but everybody say followers of them who through faith and patience inherit everybody say the promise guess what i want to talk about for the next few moments i want to talk about that lazy love that's what i want to talk about let's talk about lazy lazy love you know there are um and and i'm sure you've heard of this before so this won't be new information how many of you are about show of hands and raise your virtual hand have ever heard of the seven deadly sins right you've heard of them yes there's a phenomenon let me go on record because most of the time when you hear somebody say the seven sins the seven deadly sins they'll they're looking for a scripture where god says these are the seven deadly sins it's it's theatrical uh it's theoretical it's not absolutely prescribed by god but throughout christendom when we look at the scripture as a whole in its totality these are the seven things that we see over and over again that cause uh upheaval in the lives of people it's almost like in the world you have the seven wonders of the world in the scripture you have these seven deadly sins and and let me give them to you if you're taking notes at home i'm going to give you the seven deadly sins uh that the scripture speaks about number one the first one uh and this one goes before the fall you can you guess it pride pride is it's the first one and and if you look at pride it's spelled p-r-i-d-e here's one of the things my old professor told me he said any time you get to a word where i is in the middle you're already in trouble pr i d e how do you spell sin s i n anytime i gets in the middle you've got a problem secondly greed that's the second deadly sin number three wrath it's it's that anger um that that is caused by someone else's actions number four is envy number five lust gluttony slothfulness is the last one now when i read those how many of you are watching online and perhaps those of you who are in the room today in your relationship maybe not all of them but you've had pride greed rap envy lust gluttony thoughtfulness something like that if if you've had any of those in your relationships just raise your hand or your virtual hand if you can't say man just say ouch brother walker when i read this it shocked me that one was different than the other that when i read this that the first six were the result of too much of something and the last one is the result of not enough of something what what is pride pride is when you have too much love and appreciation for yourself and the bible says pride comes before the fall greed is when you have too much of a desire for something raft is when you have too much anger because the bible says be angry and sin not which means that being angry is not the sin it's having too much of it and what you do as a result of it that recall that causes the sin what's envy wanting what somebody has too much what's lust it's an overzealous feeling for something that perhaps is off limits what is gluttony too much food but what is lawfulness not enough not enough energy not enough motivation and and when i think one of the poets said it uh when you get to the owl they tell you about the happy but they don't tell you about the ever after they tell you that that you know when you have the wedding and all of you have been there all of us have been there if you've been down that owl the lust of the moment uh it starts from a child from a woman she's dreaming about the dress she's dreaming about the moment that she will walk down the aisle and somebody will say here comes the bride you've got to understand that at that moment it's two separately different things because the woman has gotten to the altar because she's getting ready to start her life she's getting ready to start her life she sees falling in love with this gentleman she sees children perhaps coming after that she sees the house that she wants she sees making this house a home and the family institution am i right ladies it's it's about starting and at that very moment whatever the latitude and longitude is of that moment wherever you are the woman is thinking about something starting and the man is standing there facing you thinking about the end he's thinking to himself well i've done everything i need to do i've tried everything i need to try i've dated everybody i needed to date this is the one that i'm picking and here you are standing next to somebody believing something is starting standing next to somebody who's thinking something is ending at the same place at the same point in time and and and and here we we look at this scripture and we've got the seven deadly sins and and let me tell you in every relationship and i don't care if it's romantic or not it could even be with a parent in the child pride gets in the way yes envy can get in the way don't don't be mistaken about how many men are in their homes envious of the attention that their children get from their wife you gotta understand that all of these things are there you gotta understand that even though you are married and and and relations should be a part of the relationship you would be surprised at how many husbands and wives are still dealing with lust and and that thing that says that because we are married we're supposed to be true to one another and while that is true nobody tells you at the altar that just because one person turns you on doesn't mean that everybody else turns you off don't don't get quiet it's true it's true it's true i know you may not like it but you're not the only attractive person your mate has ever seen that they don't all of a sudden marry you and the whole world turns ugly it's it's about a commitment that that watch this here it is what marriage is it is not perfection what marriage actually is is the ability to manage the original decision that i decided to love you for better or for worse and divorce is the result of people who don't have great management skills it's not that they're not good people it's not that they're not great individuals it's that at some moment they became a bad manager a bad supervisor something entered and i don't know if it was greed and i don't know if it was pride i don't know if it was envy i don't know if it was lust but it is the result of somebody who could not manage the original decision hebrews chapter 5 which is the chapter brother adams and sister adams that precedes the one we're talking about go back and read it i know you will look at verse number 11. here's what the writer is addressing he's talking to people watch this who have what he calls sister johnson dull hearing if there is anything that is problematic for a relationship it is dull hearing how many times have you gotten an argument or in a fight because you didn't feel that they heard you one of the poets said it i told you they were using my words she said i i know i know i hear you but are you hearing me i understand you that's not why we're arguing we're arguing because you don't understand anybody going to talk to me i i know i know you're at home i can't hear you but i can feel you right now the problem cause i know i'm talking good because because i know that if it's in my mind it must be meaningful so the problem is not me because if i thought it it's a great thought i understand me the problem is you don't understand me this is where the rubber meets the road this is this is this is why you're nudging your spouse in the house right now saying are you listening this is this is why you're thinking right now oh i cannot wait to pass to finish this sermon because i'm sending this link to jared right after the sermon sarah needs this message you're thinking about somebody right now and i know that it's the truth but he says he says i'm addressing your dull hearing and here's what he says i want you to read it i want you to open your bible right now i want you to go to hebrews 5 and 11 because there's a word right there and here's what he says and this is every couple's understanding he says we have much to say about this but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand how many of you want to leap out of your seat and just leap for joy i would tell you what's on my mind but i don't think you would try to understand i would tell you how what you said made me feel but i don't think you would try to understand i would tell you why it is hard for me to get over that but i don't think that you're trying to understand and i think that when a lack of understanding meets dull hearing there is a lack of love that hearing and understanding are necessary for growth how can they hear unless they have a preacher and how can he preach unless he be sent well if he sent he has to hear he that has an ear let him hear what the spirit is saying to the church the writer of hebrews and i wish we knew who he was because all of us need to send him a love offering but we don't know who wrote hebrew some say paul some say apollos we don't know who wrote it but we do know that whoever wrote it was divinely inspired but god so much so that the writer of hebrew got to write about other writers he who wrote or she who wrote whoever wrote hebrews i'm telling you they must have been somebody to write about enoch to write about moses to write about sarah to write about abram or abraham to write about all of the great cloud of witness those who are apart and the progenitors of our faith this writer says i would try to explain myself to you but i'm afraid that you are not trying to understand am i talking to anybody who will admit that god is not silent he always speaks but maybe at some point due to fear hurt in pain you no longer tried to understand the right of hebrews senses that the christians of this day and you have to understand that theologically where you are this is a cross-section between judaism and christianity and the jews whose original religion was judaism because of paul and others who have infiltrated the roman empire and asia minor has now told them about a jesus christ who has liberated them from judaism and now has introduced them to christianity and watch this they have been converted and thank god for the conversion thank god for the conversion because the only way you can stay married is you have to be converted the only way you can stay happy is that you be converted it doesn't matter if you grew up in poverty and you grew up watching your parents get abused if you're going to make this relationship work you have to be converted from your orientation it doesn't matter if they used to yell in your house if this thing is going to work you have to be converted it doesn't matter if they stayed out all night maybe your father never came home but that woman you with right now if you're going to be with her you have to be converted to a curfew help me holy ghost but here was the problem the problem was not that they were converted paul says to them over in acts and he's in the writer of hebrews says this in in the book that we're reading he says the problem is not that you have not been converted he says the problem is is even though you are now christians you are still practicing judaistic rituals he says that even though you've been converted you still have rituals and in every relationship the problem isn't that you hooked up the problems are your rituals the problems are are the things that you still practice that you said you would no longer practice when you met this person the problem is the things that you still do that last argument you said you would never do again the problem is is that you're still practicing the things in wartime that you said you would never do in peace time and he says i am having a problem watch what he says he says i am observing you and you are still watch this practicing what he calls the baby things of judaism how many of you all will admit this i'll let you boy at home that every once in a while you act like a baby nobody going to talk what do you mean i don't google god no but you cry until you get your way you manipulate the situation until you get your way anybody want to admit that sometimes you practice the baby things you you pout you stick your lip out you walk into the other room you get in the bed you face the wall and you put a line just don't touch me just you get up and you go into the other room and and watch this you get up and you go into the other room not because you don't want to sleep with your spouse but you really want them to come up and come into the room and since you did the baby thing you left so that they will follow you they didn't follow you so you concluded it must not be love because love for you means something different than it means for them for some people love means a gift for some love means physical touch for others it means words of encouragement for others it means acts of appreciation so the truth is most of us suffer is because we are great at loving people the way we need to be loved but we're no good at loving people the way they need to be loved and i would that if this sermon has resonated with you i wish i had the number of every one of your haters i wish i had the phone number or the email of every person who has ever come up against you because you don't have all of this together and i would tell them for you don't judge my brother don't judge my sister because when when the writer was talking to these people who on the threshold of judaism and christianity he says listen you're dull of hearing and i still see you practicing the rituals of your history because the truth is every person looking at me today has something in their life that they are prone to return to i know you're a deacon i know you're a praise team member i know your manager at the bank i know you have a master's degree i know you're educated maybe you went to a historically black college or maybe your ivy league or perhaps you just got summa laude in in the school of hard knocks i i know i know you got it all i know you got it all but but but underneath your your pretty hair and your your your pretty brown skin and your pretty brown eyes and and your prada and your gucci you got an insecurity and and if it's touched in the right place everybody has something that they'll return to everybody has an attitude that if you make me mad i don't care that i have the ability to speak properly you want this ghetto i'll give it to you because everybody has something that they can return to everybody has something they can return to i know we live in the suburbs but i came from the streets everybody got something that they can return to and i know there's at least 2 000 women that look at that man and say please don't try me i've been fighting my brothers my whole life don't get it twisted i'm soft but if i go crazy i might not win the fight but you will look like you've been in one any women in here know what i'm talking yeah everybody has something don't clap too much ladies everybody has something and i wish you could see uh those people in here with us this morning they they just they just gave god praise on valentine's day nonetheless everybody has something that they're prone to return to you might have a jar full of quarters for every time you prevented yourself from cursing but but if somebody pushed the right button uh you you'll talk in ways that that even jesus won't recognize because everybody has something everybody got a habit that that if you feel unloved you'll return to everybody has a type of person that if they're not healed they're returned to everybody has a financial hang up that if shopping is therapy and you feel a certain way you'll return to it why am i talking about this pastor what are you what are you what do you have us here this morning for and why are you sitting in that seat is it because you're tired no i wanted to talk about lazy love and i wanted you to know that according to the scripture there is a difference between the lazy and the slawful that they are not the same because laziness can actually be understood if you are a single woman and you're in school and you're raising three four five kids and you're being a good wife and lover to your husband and you're cleaning up the house and you're managing his family because he's no good at remembering his sister's birthdays and you are the planner and you are the babysitter and you are the cook and you are the cleaner it is plausible that nine o'clock at night and he comes home full of energy you're gonna be lazy because by the time he gets energized you are ready to start your day tomorrow if you don't eat properly in the day malnutrition can cause you to be lazy it's it's i mean when you do a lot see laziness is when you don't have the energy to do what it is that you have the responsibility to do are you listening to me it's it's it's when i have responsibility but i don't have energy it's it's when i have responsibility but i don't have drive laziness could be understood it could be because of sleep deprivation if you're only sleeping four or five nights a week for some of you or maybe three a night it's no wonder i don't feel like doing so don't feel like reading the bible i don't feel like praying i don't feel like rubbing your head i don't feel like running your bath water i don't feel like putting a mayonnaise on your sandwich he'll take his turkey and his cheese i know it's dry but you won't be hungry i don't feel like it and it don't mean that i don't love you it just means i'm lazy and yes i'm lazy because you have not taken into account how many things you've asked me for and let me tell you something about a man we don't ask for everything verbally said fellas we don't give women enough credit because they are following and i know you won't be honest with me but they are following our silent commands i'm gonna take a circle on that one i'm gonna take a circle on that one because we got silent commands we got stuff we required that we don't ask for but we got a look that we give them when they don't meet the silent command so so you got the silent command and the verbal and you call her lazy and she may be but there is a difference between being lazy and slothful she may be lazy because she's stressed he may be lazy ma'am because he's stressed because what you didn't see is that when he left the house after you celebrated him everybody at his job tore him down and and the person at the job didn't respect him and and then when he left there and his supervisor didn't respect him and then all of the people he supervises didn't respect him and by the time he got home he wanted to be celebrated and then he got home and the dog didn't respect him he got home and and he sees how the children foul out of the bedroom when you walk through the door and they come out of the kitchen screaming mommy when you walk in the room but when he walks in the room everybody just waves hey he walks in the house he's looking for for everybody to celebrate him as he walks in but but you call it doing cartwheels and and now he has to settle for a laissez-faire welcome into a home he built that that's why he's lazy he's lazy because he's not celebrated he's lazy because he's not appreciated he's lazy because he thinks his only job is to protect and provide and as long as he's protecting as long as he's got a gun and as long as he's providing and as long as he's got money he feels like all he is is a distribution center and after he finishes serving you he's got to go serve his mother and after he serves his mother he's got to go serve his sister and after he serves his sister he's got to go serve his cousin and everybody wants wants wants wants from him but nobody gives gives gives from him because men are known to be givers but not expected to want to be receivers we're always giving we're giving we're giving women even when you don't know we're giving while you're asleep at night we're walking the floors trying to investigate sounds trying to find out if the doors are locked if the windows are closed we're doing all kinds of things wondering how are we going to get that dress that the computer has showed us that you've been looking at over the last three weeks and how are we going to buy the shoes that we keep hearing you hint about but you ain't asked about because you got silent commands too is this all right but i want to talk to the sloth in you because everything that i just talked about it's understandable it's cool it's a part of life sometimes you don't feel like it sometimes you don't want to sometimes you don't have the energy and all of that is understandable and let me tell you god ain't mad at you but to the slaughter to the slaughter to the side of you watch this because one is i have no motivation god says that's fine we can deal with that i don't want to deal with that today i want to talk to those of you who've lost motivation in the in the greek the word sloth is is no thrust it means watch this it means someone who is willing to move but not at the same pace they used to this is gonna be good if you listen i'm willing to meet your needs but while i'm meeting them i'ma act like i don't want to i'ma show up but you best believe i'ma have an attitude on my face so you'll know i didn't want to show up i'ma do what you asked me to do but i'm going to complain the entire time it's movement without the aggression that you once had it's the lack of drive it's the lack of intensity it's when you do it but you want the other person to know that you are disinterested and god says i would you be hot or cold but what bothers me is when you do it and you are lukewarm what bothers me is when you go all out but act like you're in the middle it's it's it's it's the part of you that does it but it's disinterested so the writer says that god is desiring that we quit being slothful he's saying quit acting like someone who has lost their enthusiasm and excitement and has now sunk into a state of being sluggish and uninterested it is what i am calling lazy love either be hot or be cold but don't be lukewarm if you're going to do this thing called love whether it be for god or whether it be for your loved one or whether it be for your children you've got to do it with everything you have because thoughtfulness has nothing to do with energy it has to do with condition a lot of us are trying to do a good thing but we're in a bad condition i want you to ask yourself a question what condition am i in am i still recovering from the last argument i know i told you i forgive you but can i really tell you i'm still hurt and i'm not like you just because you can get over it in two hours doesn't mean i can't it takes me some time i'm i'm or i'm not like you well i i'm not going to be mad all week long i'm done with it the moment i'm done with it and there is a problem it's just because you're done doesn't mean we're done it's it's lazy love it's it's i've heard you so much you said the same thing so many times i'm not trying to understand i've got dull hearing because i've heard you complain about that before i've heard you say that before i've developed dull hearing not that i don't love you but it's just lazy i'm i'm not even trying to understand um a slawful here it is a slawful person uh it's it's when it's when you look like you're going somewhere but inwardly you're stuck it's it's when it looks like you're going somewhere but inwardly you stuck so might i over the next few moments tell you how you can know if you are slaughterful because up until now you've probably been vacillating going back and forth and saying sometimes i'm a sloth and sometimes i'm not sometimes i'm laziness can i tell you how you know you are one number one the first way you know you are a sloth is you are a person who makes soft choices soft choices indecisive i gotta i got scripture for you and and and sister johnson sister walker i'm gonna give you scriptures all the way through this so that you can use these against billy and your husband all i want you to i want you to have all the power you can when you get home i promise you they're not going to like it after this but but i know what a power is help me holy ghost and and so i'm going to give you these scriptures and then i'll corral them later on and tell the brothers like we normally do you know i was talking to you bro so that's that's how we do it so so look at this proverbs 6 and 10 proverbs 6 and 10 yet a little sleep a little slumber a little folding of the hands to sleep so shall thy poverty come as one that traveleth and thy want as an armed man listen to me one of the side effects of slaughterness is poverty treasure follows aggression brothers if you want to provide for your house and you want god to bless you financially don't start with an application at a new job don't start with the million-dollar idea and don't finish it bring aggression to the dream you already have and watch resources to come knocking your door down god says it's not that it wasn't a good idea it's that you're lazy about it is that you didn't give it your all and poverty comes to the sluggard when you look at people and you say oh my god they are they are not good morally they are not believers how do they have what they have is because money is not looking for christians it's looking for aggression my god ladies on top of being equally yoked with a man make sure he's just not a christian make sure he's got drive don't just look for somebody who's cute look for somebody who knows how to make a choice i know i'm preaching whether you whether you like it or not because many of you all have strong cute beautiful people in your life but they're lazy and have no drive and poverty will always find your house because it's a lazy love it's a lazy love i got scripture choose ye this day you can't even get god without a choice god says i won't even go to somebody who won't make a choice about me a double-minded man is unstable in all of his ways i will never bring stability somebody who can't make a choice making a choice to keep you from burning up ask the hebrew boys choose you this day either you're going to bow or other you're going to stand and they chose to stand at least they didn't bow and stand they made a choice and standing outside the fire make them withstand what happened on the inside of the fire because i'm telling you if you'll make the right decision out it'll protect you when you get in everybody say this with me either bowel stand either bound stand jeremiah said it this way he says ask for me and my house here's the choice we will serve the lord if you're gonna live with me you got one choice serving god you'd be surprised what would happen in your marriage and in your life if you just made a choice if you just got together and talked about it and came out with a decision what are we going to do with this child what are we going to do with this money instead of acting like it's just going to work itself out i'm telling you that one of the ways you will know you are lazy in your relationship is that you will not make the commitment to make a choice that's number one is that good so far is that helpful if if you're watching online raise your hand and let me know if that's helpful because i don't want to be helpful if it's not helpful i'll stop right now but i'm only telling you what god told me and i don't speak to you as somebody who's read the scripture i am speaking from experience of what the lack of aggression will do and it's amazing for somebody who loves you to see you be aggressive about what you love and not aggressive about them it's amazing what washing your car will do to a woman who you'll never spend time with it's amazing brothers what playing your video game all day will do to your relationship when you can't have a 15-minute conversation it's amazing what playing nba 2k will do in your 2k1 number two how do i know i'm a sloth that was that poetic that was that good you put the next time you use my stuff would y'all please give me credit number two how do i know i'm a slaw i limit my vision to things i'm not afraid of you need a bible verse proverbs 20 6 and 13. the slawful man says there's a lion in the way there's a lion in the road see a sign of slaughterness in your relationship is when you are too afraid to face your fears you don't care who you are everybody got something that they're afraid of how many women you got something to say to him but you're afraid of how he's going to react you're going you're afraid of how he's going to respond and it's not that you're afraid of him is that your calculator i don't feel like hearing that today so i'm just going to not that you're afraid of him but you you just think yeah it ain't worth it because you know he gonna go off and he don't try to understand and i'll just deal with it you know how many brothers i really want to tell her what i think about that but i don't feel like her being mad until april 2027 so i just deal with it because a woman will remember not only the day you made her angry she will remember what you were wearing when you made her angry and if the sun was shining if the wind was blowing and she will remember that there was an ant crawling on the ground dragging a potato chip in the midnight hours and you better not know that that aunt was there because that means you weren't paying attention the way you know you're a sloth is you're afraid to face your fears what what what what shape would we be in if jesus was afraid to face the cross where would you and i be if jesus didn't say i must need suffer the cross he made a choice to suffer he made a decision to suffer if jesus had considered the consequences of the cross we would not have eternal life moses was a lot of things he was a stutterer he was a murderer he was a complainer but why was he the emancipator because he wasn't a sloth he would walk for 40 years if it was necessary he would leave pharaoh's house if god told him to he would get retribution for a hebrew being beaten by an egyptian if he felt it in his spirit he may have been a lot of things but being a sloth was not one of them he would face pharaoh if he had to he would face the red sea if he had to he was a lot of things but he was not a sloth david was a lot of things david was a whoremonger he was a murderer he was a liar he was a cheat and at times he was a bad father but he wasn't a sloth but he would face his lion and his bear and his giant and his king he was a lot of things but he wasn't a sloth and i can show you person after person who you can look at their morals and it would say to you that they shouldn't have made it but how did they make it because for everything that they were lacking at least they had drive to do what god told them to do what god is saying that even though you cannot keep it together can you at least hold together what i gave you can you at least still keep your drive for your original decision can you still do what i've called you to no man who has ever put his hand to the plow and look back it's fit for the kingdom of god how do i know i'm a slugger when i make soft choices how do i know i'm a slugger when i limit my vision to things that i'm not afraid of how do i know i'm a sluggard i know i'm a slugger when i'm addicted to the thing that slows me down that's how i know that's how i knew that's how i know when i'm addicted to the thing that slows me down there's one species of uh a sloth called a bratapus and it eats the leaves of a tree that have alkaloids in it which is a component that is similar to volume that humans take when they are in pain which means that the sloth in this case is not slow it's addicted to the leaf that slows it down if it didn't eat that leaf it wouldn't be high and if it wasn't high it would be able to move and if it was able to move it could get to the destination the bratifist only moves in one day 41 yards which means that the average man could run down a football field in a few seconds and it would take a sloth three days to go the length of a football field because it's addicted to a leaf that it eats that slows it down i wonder how many things in your relationship are you addicted to that slows it down that if you didn't get high off of that you'll be fine if you didn't indulge in that you guys would be okay if you didn't have too much of this or not enough of that everything would be fine is there any admission online and in the house i'm addicted to the thing that slows us down that argument that arguing spirit i'm addicted to it yes i always got to say something yes i'm going to overthink it yes i'm going to overreact i'm addicted to the thing that keeps us from progressing maybe all of us should check ourselves into the lazy love rehab so that we can get off the thing that slows us down just touch them and say don't get high on your own supply y'all should have seen some of the women in the church right now they gave they touched their husband with the oil of jesus christ said don't get and they almost fell out don't get high on your own supply is there any room for you to admit that there is something in your life you're addicted to that slows your relationships down addicted to your man cave and you know she hates it just come out of it sometime addicted to your your your quarters in the house where you get your hair done and and you do all your gossiping but and you know he hates it and and he just wants you to come out of there addicted to whatever it is addicted to your cell phone you know i i despise sitting at the table with somebody for an hour and you're on your phone we could have stayed home if i got to watch you why would i pay for the meal and watch you talk to somebody else put your phone down lift your eyes up and look at me we ain't talking about nothing good it's better than you talking to somebody else i'd rather you stare at me and talk about nothing then me sit here and watch you text somebody else or checking your instagram and all of that it's a lazy love the reason why there's no conversation at the table is because there are lazy people at the table who won't swallow their emotions and talk about what's real and what's difficult because there's a lion in the road did you know that a sloth moves so slow that algae grows on their fur they move so slow now you know algae grows in stagnant areas the sloth moves so slow that algae grows on it and when you are slow moving in your relationship depression grows when you are slothing your relationship envy grows insecurity grows i wonder as thick as your skin is what has grown on it if we were to take a sample of what has grown on your epidermis what would i find would i find an anger that just festers and grows when you move slow things grow when you move slow things grow how do i know i'm a sloth i know i'm a sloth when i make soft choices i know i'm a sloth when i limit my vision to things i'm not afraid of i know i'm a sloth when i'm addicted to things that slow me down i know i'm a sloth lastly when i disregard time and season here's what i wish i would have known that i know now relationships don't operate in time they operate in seasons most people opt out of relationships when they're not having a good time when it's no longer fun when the romance isn't there when the trust has left but a seasoned person will tell you all of that is a part of it that when you disregard time and seasons it's proof that it's a lazy love because yes winter comes but it leaves and it may come again but if you withstand the season it leaves the slaughter doesn't understand and doesn't have an appreciation for time and season you need a scripture i know it proverbs 20 and 4 the slugger will not plow by reason of cold therefore shall he beg and harvest and have nothing what it is actually saying is at the beginning of harvest the sloth ploweth not so when he comes to reap there is nothing there because he didn't take advantage of the ground when the ground was ready there was nothing there when it was harvest time your spouse is ground you cannot get harvest where you do not proceed you will not get a withdrawal from a bank where you have not made a deposit and you have to understand that people of god that you're in relationship with you have to look at every person as ground and you don't dig in somebody's winter you don't dig when they're scarred you don't dig when they're hurting you don't dig when they're confused you gotta wait on the ground to be right and i wish i wish i had somebody to tell me what i am telling you right now you have to wait until the ground is ready you've got to wait until the ground is ready you cannot get a harvest in the winter you've got to wait on the water you've got to wait on the rain you've got to wait on the conditions to be right and then you have to be ready because the sluggard will say you wasn't ready when i was ready so i ain't ready now oh god when i wanted to talk you didn't want to talk so now you ready i ain't talking no well we just don't gonna do it when you feel like it what about me it's the sloth i conclude with this message yes i know you love but is it a lazy love because poverty is just not the absence of money it's the absence of wealth and health is wealth happiness is wealth and when aggression and motivation and passion are absent it's plausible that you are practicing a lazy love so here's what i've got for you go to proverbs 6 when you get a chance i love honest people i've tried to be one myself there is somebody in the bible to those of us who at some point in our life have been sluggers i've been one you may say what i've owned businesses i've pastored several locations in a growing congregation i've got a daughter who wakes up running and goes to sleep running and i will do anything for her and while i manage all of those things at the same time i must admit that i wasn't lazy i was loveful lost an original motivation for a journey that i initiated and i want to send you where god sent me to get a wake-up call proverbs 6 he says oh sluggard go talk to the aunt you big slugger you don't think you can learn anything from that little ant because you know big people don't think they can learn anything from small people all learning stops when you look at your size and not who can be the teacher just because you have more money don't mean you can't learn from somebody who doesn't just because you have a position just because you're a pastor don't mean you can't learn from your parishioners just because your manager don't mean you can't learn from your employees oh slugger go talk to the aunt consider her wise ways watch what he says it says the ant it has no commander no overseer or ruler yet it stores its provision in summer and gathers its food at harvest watch what he says i'm gonna end with this and i'm gonna pray for you because this we're living in a world where 850 000 people filed for unemployment just two weeks ago you may be saying pastor why do you keep talking about resources and we're supposed to be talking about love because somehow god has found a way to inextricably connect them he says in proverbs 6 and 11 after he tells the slugger to go talk to the aunt he says if you don't go get counsel from the end poverty shall come upon you like a thief poverty shall come up on you like a armed man it will come out of nowhere that means that you will be in a perpetual state of not enough not enough love not enough compassion not enough drive not enough energy god says i want to give you an overflowing abundance of energy for your ideas i want to give you an overflow and abundance of love so that your loved ones can feel your love emanate from heart to heart and bless the best i want you to have the kind of blissful experience in your home where people want to spend the night at your home because they feel the love within your walls i want you to love so much in your home that you send children to school that teachers envy their heart and soul oh you may lack a lot of stuff but please don't lack the love you know it doesn't matter if you have 30 pair of shoes if you can speak with the tongues of men and have not love paul said it is sound and brass who cares if you have six cars in the driveway and you have not charity it is sound and brass and tinkling symbols who cares if you have a walk-in closet and your heart is not open i want to talk you out of dating god and i want you to marry him i want you to commit to him i want you to embrace him and let me tell you you can't outlove god there's an old song we used to sing during offering back in our old baptist church it was meant forgiving but i it said you can't beat god given no matter how hard you try the more you give to him the more he'll give to you i hope that this day in the year of our lord and savior jesus christ that i've given you the shot that you needed to be more energized about loving everything god has given you that you would no longer take a day for granted a person for granted a thing for granted and by all means never take our god for granted he came from heaven to earth to show you the way from the earth to the cross not because he was in debt it was my debt to pay from the cross to the grave from the grave to the sky that's why we've come to lift his name on high holy spirit i think i did what you commanded me to do i i think i said what you told me to say and i only pray that i did not get in the way that the woman in nebraska and the couple in new york [Music] that that struggling couple in alabama that example of a couple in california that family on the brink of giving up in florida and yes that that group that's in ghana huddled around the television who watched it live they didn't even wait until it was aired they're watching us live at an hour where they should be doing something else only to get the word of god i pray that in nigeria that we were able in london to let people know that god is looking for those of us who will not be lazy but will worship him in spirit and in truth do what only you can do shape us reform us transform us [Music] make us what you want us to be in jesus name we pray amen you know many of you will get roses today if you haven't already i want you to think of this like a rose trampled on the ground he took the fall this is why you can't be lazy and thought of me [Music] above oh you'll take your roses and you're gonna put them in a vas if it's over a thousand dollars or a vase if it's beneath and you're gonna get plant food and you're gonna pour it in the water and you're gonna hope that they last so maybe you have forever roses and they'll last all year you won't have to do anything to them see you'll you'll put your roses on display but god like a rose trampled on the ground he took the fall and thought of you above and what i'm asking you to do is to consider your spouse oh slugger consider your children old slugger consider your church old slugger and i want you to consider it above all it's a novice idea but yet it keeps poverty from coming on our houses like a thief first peter 3 and 7 says to the man he says honor your wife as the weaker vessel that your pray your prayers be hindered not like a rose trampled on the ground we're getting ready to go you took the fall and thought of me yes [Music] above all like a rose trampled on the ground [Music] you took the phone see you next week and thought of me [Music] yes of the living god have your way touch every home touch every relationship touch every house that will be done on earth as it is in heaven in jesus name we pray amen god bless you i hope you'll accept jesus christ as your lord and savior all you got to do is confess with your mouth and believe in your heart and god will raise you from the dead and based on that paul said thou shalt be safe god bless you we'll see
