deep web users of Reddit what are your worst or scariest experiences you've had while browsing I've got a good one for this I still haven't figured out 100% how this person found out info but here it goes I was buying some clothing off of the Silk Road for a while and one day received an inbox on my personal Twitter account the person talked about how I was an amateur and obviously didn't protect my identity enough and that they would report me to the police with information about the clothing I was buying when I initially called their bluff they went on to say oh really what would mom and dad's name say about this or your teachers from school say demanding money in return for not giving me up basically getting blackmailed and I was very nervous because this person had all my info and I thought my tor browser had been comprised later I rationalized that by following the is Silk Road up and running Twitter account on my personal Twitter the person assumed what I was using it for and used my real Twitter name to find out info on me and blackmail me it ended up just blowing over after I ignored and blocked the account pretty scary though honestly most of the highly disturbing content on the Internet can be found right on the surface if you consider highly disturbing to be murder ripe etc the Deep Web is mostly a fairly benign place for the sale of drugs fraud paraphernalia etc by people who aren't really sadistic in their intentions there is some child porn unfortunately but it is pretty actively pushed to the fringes and shunned by most there are a few almost certainly a fake hitman I believe I saw what looked like a pretty legit swatting service at one time I was also around for those Wonka super counterfeit notes which while not spooky were definitely pretty remarkable in terms of the enormous illegal operation I was witnessing most of the horror stories you hear are just that stories the creepy aspect of it all is perhaps the big picture itself it's harder to buy weed than it is to watch a video of two teenagers beating a hobo to death with a hammer stuff I could easily find on Alta Vista ten years ago nothing really shocked me but one was really disgusting a tutorial on how to cut your own nuts and prepare them to eat that really grossed me out oh and don't even look for porn you might see the most duct up stuff you'll ever see naked 8 yo snuff really duct up the SDM I had a glimpse once was on a site that just streamed the latest gifts without filter I'm sure they would lie me to link most of it was Jay pop boy bands but one was a CCTV of it what I can only assume was a suicide bomber since the site had no context I knew zero info raised pedestrian bridge two guys sitting and talking other people walking to where they needed to go all of a sudden one of the guys sitting just blows up black bore everywhere the guy sitting next to him falls over slow motion like frozen in the sitting position he was in I have no doubt that he was stoned dead after he falls torso splats closer to the camera everyone else just runs I never went back to that site not sure I'd call anything they're scary anyone on tour knows exactly what it's used for or what people like to use it for so nothing was surprising I hosted an anonymous chat room for a while it got abused fairly hard and I ended up taking it down out of fear of being busted some of the things I saw included soft slash hardcore CP advertisements from sellers on Silk Road people asking to buy weapons hits people reviewing services offered it was a scam it was legit etc people selling BTC prescription drugs photos videos of hardcore gore the list goes on some people even just chatted about normal stuff I had visited the Deep Web before but as another user said I mostly encountered crappy style websites and mocked websites that required invitation or Bitcoin payment for entry there's a lot and I mean a lot of credit card scammers and fake identification sites whereby you can literally start a new life for the right price passports driver's licenses and even Social Security numbers to buy I read a few disturbing things on there one in particular I remember was a cannibals guide to cutting cooking and preparing human meat it was a very strenuous read as it was so casually explaining what to do from choosing the right person and what kind of person will taste the best based on various factors to cutting blood draining and cooking methods to achieve the best taste it was definitely a serious post and definitely something I won't forget reading I have not been back since and never will return there is no need I had to log on cause it was bothering me how many false things were being said the Deep Web is all of the unindexed web pages search engines can't look up like your email account or bank account it makes up 90% of the web the dark web is part of the Deep Web that runs on dark nets and has websites not available on the surface web what gets lost about it is that it's not big King's College London did a study and found a little over five thousand websites there is 1 billion surface web websites so that means the dark web is point zero zero zero zero zero five percent of all the websites that not even a drop in bucket more like a mist if that people think downloading tor will get you trouble although you could be monitored downloading it but that is tinfoil hat talk which isn't true it's just another web browser but made specifically to hide your identity it's almost fully funded by the US Navy and was created by them as well it was made so they could contact each other over encrypted channels and eventually release the source code and the Tor project was created you can use it as a normal browser but it's slow as hell in javascript is disabled by default so it's kind of pointless in that respect the people that benefit the most are the ones in repressive countries or news reporters in war-torn countries it allows them to hide their internet history and reach sites they normally can't moral or the story is that it's really not that bad and don't be afraid of Tor as far as Wurst goes one time when I was 11 I was browsing slash B slash or something similar to it when I stumbled upon dice world determines what happens to this kitten and his threat of users we're suggesting things like skin it alive break its arms tear it in half at cetera up followed through and had a series of pictures of this kitten the first one being completely normal then another with a broken leg then the third another leg cut off eventually it ends up decapitated and disemboweled the whole scene was Kodak point-and-shoot quality images taken in an empty bathtub in between each picture other users congratulated up for delivering it really ducked me up good I remember almost being in a complete state of shock it was really a turning point for me as far as my internet experience goes like my innocence was lost even at eleven I had seen some gore crap but just the idea of some dude slowly mutilating a kitten and taking pictures of it in stages for the live amusement of a group of twisted individuals was just something I couldn't have expected at the time I get ill just thinking about it back in 2005 I remember surfing around the Deep Web and encountered a beyond duct up web site from a serial killer who was eventually arrested for murder on the website there was a sequence of hand drawn images depicting a girl getting their head chopped off each page that loaded got more photic realistic I thought it was just some really ducked out part some depicted a man fellating himself with the decapitated head eventually I reached the lot page on the website only to be met with an actual photo of six or so actual decapitated heads all in different stages of rotting it truly scarred me for life the web site no longer exists for obvious reasons but if you were brave enough to go diving for it I think some archive of it still exists TL DR free money out on Deep Web got scammed got reimbursed stupid fifteen-year-old me was looking for a way to make free money things like PayPal money at her and other obvious scams wading through how to become a hacker programs drug deals and other escrow stuff I stumbled upon the site owned by a Vietnamese guy that claimed to offer credit card dumps and PayPal transfers for a small fee I was like why would you give away money for money like this but I gave it a shot anyway but not without a few safeguards in place in case I got ducked over this guy looked legit since he had all of these screenshots of his PayPal account balance looking like a phone number I later discovered how that can be faked I found this website that provided temporary emails safeguard number one and message the Vietnamese guy to see if the site was still active and holy crap he replied in less than five minutes he made me a deal and said he would take a $300 money order for $600 legit PayPal dollars I signed up for a Western Union account with a fake name safeguard number two and transferred the money out of my mom's PayPal hang on reading he messaged me that I'll see the money in 30 minutes while I waited I googled the dongs exchange rate which made me think that I was doing this guy a huge favor 35 minutes pass and I still don't see the money I message him gain and again no response I got scammed heart my mom's money was gone and there was nothing I can do about it or was there my mom wasn't the most computer literate person there was so she never checked her account she usually left that for me to explain to her I remembered that charges to that debit card could be disputed so I played the waiting game for about a month and filed claim that her card was stolen because of safeguard number two fake name in the money orders destination country PayPal decided in her favor I signed Vietnamese guy's email up for a lot of spam uninstalled tor got a job and turned my life around four years later I'm heading towards an engineering degree and wouldn't dream of crawling back to the dark web caveat stay away from there if it's too good to be true it is drink your school stay in milk and let drugs do you back before the www existed people swapped images on Usenet newsgroups in order to do this you'd take an image run it through a u encryption scheme which turned it into a long text file the text would then be split into individual pages and posted to a Usenet group to see the image you had to stitch the pieces back together then run it through au decoder and turn it back into an image so there was this one group four images called alt dot binaries dot o dot my dot god and I was thinking hey how bad could it be picked an image at random put it together decoded it and it was a picture of a chick taking a dump in a dude's mouth I used to buy drugs on the original Silk Road I had just placed an order for two or three hundred dollars worth of top grade heroin when the site went down I believe I didn't finalize early so the money was in escrow when the cause of the damage became clear though escrow wasn't going to save me turns out I had placed my order right before the feds or whatever agency nabbed my namesake and took over the site there was a way you could tell where your bitcoins ended up and sure enough mine were in a wallet attributed to the feds they had seized my money I'm sure it's possible for them to backtrack to me but I was low-level just a consumer nothing too scary but I found this one library on there it was called BB compendium I used to visit a lot until it vanished without a trace it was gone in February and I found some disturbing tutorials but it was like a train wreck I couldn't look away some other non disturbing ebooks were good reads then crystal necked which also disappeared it was a calm website but now it takes you to the domain provider it had the same stuff essentially less disturbing stuff but less now I just have parasite I found out some Finnish guy designed it from some of the language and it's getting old fast I feel like the media has planted an opinion about tor browser on people's minds usually the first thing you hear talked about it is that using tor you can access illegal websites and get marked by your ISP while you can access abbreviated websites via tor strip to basics it is just a similar search engine like Google with limitations to how people can track you down what people don't realize is that door is a key to freedom of speech and countries which moderate their internet like North Korea for example furthermore nowadays leading Internet companies have brainwashed the people to believe that it is okay for those companies to know every single movement you make and your preferences bit late to the show but wasn't browsing the dark web was literally just browsing YouTube I forget what I was watching I think it was a video of babies doing funny things but a video came up in the sidebar with a really dodgy name something like little girl dancing in leotard I was sitting with my boyfriend at the time and were both like WTF that looks shady as hell clicked on it and it was just a young girl in some sort of gymnastics outfit doing some sort of dance routine she'd made up and you could hear her mother talking behind the camera seemed pretty innocent until we noticed that it was in a playlist not related to the upload channel clicked on it and oh boy one hundreds of videos of little girls dancing in leotards and tight clothes all seemingly innocent to a normal person hence why they were on YouTube but to appear oh it was probably like a dream then came across so many other accounts that had all done the same thing we were both just sat there like what the duck have we just stumbled across flag that crapped so hard but I don't think it got taken down I didn't want to revisit to check the disappointment booted up the deep web out of morbid curiosity tor is a really slow browser so you spend most of your time waiting reminds me of the Internet when I was a kid and how much it sucked compared today when things actually do load it's mostly just dead links message boards and chat rooms that haven't been used in years scammers and drugs it's pretty underwhelming if there is any duct up crap you need to know where it is beforehand the stories of the people randomly stumbling upon child porn snuff films and hit men are almost all bullcrap from what I gathered in a few hours I tried to browse the Deep Web you have to know people and quite frankly those are not the type of people who I want to meet if they were easy to find they wouldn't be running anymore for a time I was very interested in the dark web so I browsed it more and more till I found a website where you could group chat with like five random people and talk about stuff in my group one guy was always talking about suicide because he had cancer and nobody in his live and was debating about the best way to kill himself and if it's worth living in general after a few minutes a guy entered the room and asked if anybody wants to see some free gore and everybody was like EI sure he sent like six under links of homicide photos of gruesomely twisted and cut bodies and crap it was the most disturbing thing i ever saw because nothing in the media industry is as terrifying as real cuts and bruises and the look of an unfresh core and of course the knowledge that these are real afterwards he asked if anybody was interested in more in exchange for bitcoins and that's where I left throw away just to be safe I found a forum that put me off of the dark web for a while one of the posts was the body of a woman obviously dead with her limbs cut off the discussion was about the OPP's murder ripe and consumption of the woman as well as the repeated rape of her corpse during the course of it also a site where members were sexually attracted to Gore the only post I looked at was of the head of a blonde woman that had been smashed in and all the comments were about how they would love to duck that hole and thought she was much prettier now don't dark web kids to be honest the Deep Web isn't nearly as scary and dangerous as it's made out to be people always say that if you go into a web site you're going to be hacked and kidnapped most of the sites there are one call and trustworthy every site that has a hope of being popular know better than to hack people and it's just common sense not to go into the crafty ones and too easy to stop just turn off JavaScript and Ajax and turn on a VPN or two and you're good and as for the content it's easy to tell what not to click on just don't click on anything that has these in the title Red Room Daisy CP Gore JB jailbait child porn and you'll be good of course there's always the off chance that a site will be a shock site you click on it and you realize that it's not in fact a tour directory there isn't much you can do here just stop scrolling once you see any hint of bad crap as for downloading stuff unless it's the pirate base or WikiLeaks don't though I would assume that's kind of yes and even the Pirate Bay's isn't reliable the surface web one is probably more reliable and lastly if you're still worried about being tracked and you wanted to be as safe as possible simply one use the Tor VPN to buy a VPN yes buy one if you're going to be serious about this then a few dollars / pounds / whatever the duck a month won't be much to spare or three make your own VPN it isn't that hard there are many tutorials online the main thing is to be safe most of it is common knowledge so as long as you don't click any shady links don't download anything and stay on sites that have been deemed safe you're free to do whatever it is you wanted to do I don't judge if you wanted to buy drugs that's fine with me I don't go on the Deep Web but my best friend told me a time where he went on the Deep Web apparently he stumbled upon a pig website nothing bad just a web site of cute teacup pigs when he scrolled down the page he was skimming some words when it had two links next to each other one said click first the other clicked second because curiosity got the best of him he clicked the first link his computer began to spa's out into Page open with lots of data and changing numbers then without touching the mouse it was moving around the computer his pictures file opened up in the mouse drag two file onto the data text it was the file of him and his girlfriend she is super pretty with long blonde hair and gray eyes but she is super reserved so he panicked because in that file was videos of them having sex nudes and even regular photos he saw them being uploaded and clicked off the page for whatever stupid reason he clicked the second link and it was a Word document of some sort and it began typing as he was staring at it it said something along the lines of such a pretty girl for such a clumsy boy I wonder how she is in bed she seems to not like you very much oh and that's a nice ash hat you got there I'm watching you he was wearing the Pokemon Hat of the main protagonist hash I had got it for him for his birthday I haven't seen much on the Deep Web my friends from college were the ones into that this was about 15 to 17 years ago in the age of dial-up the internet was still fairly new and exciting I had a small group of online friends they were fascinated with exploring the web even told me a few creepy stories I laughed thought some of it was downright impossible how could anyone do these sort of things but I've come to realize that some people that inhabit this world are pretty sick in the head there was a new member to the group chat they may have been female from their screen name pizza girl 59 I know I never saw her much in the chat before but I carried on the group chat went on as usual talking about our PG online shock sites links to creepy pics that took forever to load etc I stayed quiet I usually multitask while online so I may have been just watching TV or something suddenly I receive a private instant message from pizza girl 59 saying hey do you want to chat I shrugged thinking it was harmless and replied sure I'm Angela she continued I didn't really like giving my name out so I gave her an alias named Sam she Winky faces me then continues to casually talk to me Angela continued to talk to me throughout the night she seemed interested in me she wanted to continue chatting but she had to go so she asked to friend me on buddy list I agreed she soon was added to my buddy list for future conversations she came on every day to talk to me sometimes hours on end about simple things like what our days were like Angela soon became my online girlfriend it seemed she called me sweetie baby honey all these pet names that it became overbearing she soon wanted to know what I was doing at all times of the day and would get mad if I wasn't online she would ask for explicit photos of me which I always told her I had no camera she would ask for my address because she wanted to buy me a camera to take pictures of myself to send it just to her I would decline she'd message me crying emojis and would say I didn't love her one day she asked for my phone number that was the worst mistake of my life I was harassed for a year before I had to convince my mom to change my new cell phone number the number she gave me was a long-distance call to California or so I thought I'm not sure what I heard that day but it terrifies me to this day to think about she messaged me to call her one night around 2:00 a.m. my time I did the phone seemed to ring forever I thought it would go to voicemail soon but it kept ringing I was just almost about to hang up when someone picked up on their end it was silent I almost didn't even want to say anything as I heard a slight jagged breathing and odd muffled sounds I finally said hello I could hear a whimper of some kind almost like an animal hello I asked again this time I could hear a small female voice croak hello Angela I asked the phone suddenly clicks I hear my instant messenger go off with a new message I clicked to see it was from Angela it was a video attachment in the video was some sort of bestiality video of a woman fornicating with a dog I was disgusted why would she show me this Angela then presented herself as Brian he messaged me saying I know who you were I thought how was this relevant to the video Angela's number called me and I was very hesitant to pick up I picked up only to stay silent on the phone what I heard could only be described as a manage a queue lating on the phone I hung up only to receive another instant message but only this time to a link for an online web site to an animal on human bestiality website I was ultimately freaked out I had no idea what was going on or what I had gotten myself into this man Brian had information on me this man knew I was in high school at the time he knew all the information that Angela would have known and more Brian called my phone harassed me for almost a year before I had my number changed I blocked Brian on instant messaging but I couldn't block the harassment that came with him calling me as it seemed to be a different number every time he would call I never figured out who Angela really was but my friends claimed they had no idea she was even in the chat that day the web site if I can still remember or if it's even available to view was YouTube some numbers and yeah I don't know if that's even remotely deep web but that scared the crap out of me
