[Music] welcome to saint mary's parish good morning please stand gracious god [Music] mercy is your name redeeming love [Music] we see love we give our lives away lead us lord into the desert lead us to the wilderness through this journey we will follow for we long to see your face crushes god mercy is your name redeeming love you give your life away [Music] we bless your holy name receiving love we live our lives away in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen the lord be with you and with your spirit so we had a little bit of noise before mass the workers working on our stonework i'm one of these few people i like to hear work getting done you know but maybe not during the liturgy so it's good to be here it's good to be in the father's house let's open our heart to the god who loves us infinitely let's acknowledge our sins and receive his mercy lord jesus you came to seek and to save the lost lord have mercy lord have mercy lord jesus you came to give your life away so that we could have eternal life christ have mercy christ have mercy lord jesus you came to set us on fire with the love of the holy spirit lord have mercy lord have mercy may almighty god may always begin from you and by you be brought to completion through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever amen a reading from the book of deuteronomy moses spoke to the whole people of israel saying see i have set before you today life and prosperity death and adversity if you obey the commandments of the lord your god that i am commanding you today by loving the lord your god walking in his ways and observing his commandments decrees and ordinances then you shall live and become numerous and the lord your god will bless you in the land that you are entering to possess but if your heart turns away and you do not hear but are led astray to bow down to other gods and serve them i declare to you today that you shall perish you shall not live long in the land that you are crossing the jordan to enter and possess i call heaven and earth to witness against you today that i have set before you life and death blessings and curses choose life so that you and your descendants may live loving the lord your god obeying him and holding fast to him for that means life to you in length of days so that you may live in the land that the lord swore to give to your ancestors to abraham to isaac and to jacob the word of the lord thanks be to god [Music] happy are they who hope in the lord [Music] hope in the lord happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked or take the path that sitters tread or sit in a seat of scoffers but their delight is in the love of the lord and on this lord they meditate then [Music] happy are they who hope in the lord they are like trees blunted by streams of water which yield a fruit in its season and their leaves do not wear in all that they do they prosper [Music] hope in the lord [Music] that we could are not song but are like sharp that the wind rise away for the lord watches over the way of the righteous but the way of the wicked will perish [Music] who hope in the lord please stand glory and praise to you o lord jesus christ glory and praise to you oh lord jesus christ repent says the lord the kingdom of heaven is at hand and praise to you o lord jesus christ the lord be with you and with yourself a reading from the holy gospel according to luke glory to you o lord jesus spoke to his disciples and sternly ordered them not to tell anyone the son of man must undergo undergo great suffering and be rejected by the elders chief priests and scribes and be killed and on the third day be raised then he said to them all if any want to become my followers let them deny themselves take up their cross daily and follow me for those who want to save their life will lose it and those who lose their life for my sake will save it what does it profit them if they gain the whole world but lose or forfeit themselves the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ in the first reading our lord commands us to choose life he says i have set before you today life and death choose life now this isn't exactly easy it's not always easy to choose life the lord in the gospel today says the son of man must undergo great sufferings and one day the lord showed me like you you need to accept that in your life too because you follow christ and you want to be conformed to christ so you need to be able to tell people i'm going to undergo great sufferings but the lord will raise me up i think this is just a reality we all have to accept sometimes it's nice to be realistic too that way when things work out pretty good you're not disappointed but the point is is we follow christ and so there are sufferings and one of my favorite scripture passages is sirac 2 where the wisdom writer says my son when you come to serve the lord prepare yourself for an ordeal so it will be an ordeal there will be sufferings each one of us will have to undergo great suffering but the lord will raise us up because those who suffer with christ will be raised up with christ and live with him now in the psalm today it says happy are those who whose delight is in the law of the lord and on his law they meditate day and night now some people think oh what an awful boring life you know kind of a religious person just thinking about god's law day and night well my response is well what else are you going to think about day and night because some people do think about other things day and night you know some people think about wealth day and night some people are concerned about their reputation day and night other people are get caught up in world news day and night that's an easy one to fall in these days other people gossip you know day and night they're concerned about that other people whatever sports politics some people even sin you know caught up in that day and night that's where they find their delight and i think all of us would agree well that's an awful thing to to to delight in you know and not that these things are wrong in themselves it's okay it's good to think a little bit about wealth and reputation and world news and politics and sports nothing wrong with that but you know is that your delight is that what you you you think about day and night and there's other things that are more legit to think about to delight and people might say well i delight in my family i delight in my work you know i delight in doing good and doing charity i delight in study and this is good but it's not it's not our ultimate treasure i mean each one of us knows that we have inside of us a god-sized void that only he can feel as wonderful as family is if we're not putting god at the center it won't ultimately fulfill us or our work or our study even our charitable deeds god needs to have his proper place and that's the center and when he's at the center everything else works out awesome now it's very interesting i want to highlight that in in deuteronomy the lord says i have set before you today life and death and then in the gospel the lord says let them deny themselves take up their cross daily and follow me and one of the most freeing discoveries in the spiritual life is when you realize you don't need to worry about tomorrow like have you made that discovery in your life you know our lord jesus says do not worry about tomorrow like can you imagine almighty god who's all-powerful says hey i give you permission i command you don't worry about tomorrow do not worry about tomorrow tomorrow will take care of itself now that's a promise from almighty god like if someone else told me oh don't worry about tomorrow tomorrow we'll take care of yourself it's like easy for you to say but when god says tomorrow will take care of itself he's the all-powerful mighty god his word is true our lord jesus says do not worry about tomorrow tomorrow will take care of itself let let today's own troubles be sufficient for the day one of the most freeing biblical promises and commands and so it's important for us to stand on god's word all we need to do is put in a good day today today choose life delight in the lord all day and he will give you life huh our lord jesus christ calls us to follow him to carry the cross after him and to entrust to him all those who suffer that as members of the church we may imbibe in our lives the spirit of the cross and be willing to suffer for the sake of christ and the gospel we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that the leaders of our country may hear the cries of suffering people and may show commitment to the eradication of oppression and exploitation in society we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that those who are suffering the poor the sick the handicapped the prisoners may never fall into despair but experience the comfort of god's love we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that those who are alone in life may find companions who are willing to help them bear their crosses we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that our beloved dead may be one with god and their loved ones in heaven for all eternity we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for the intention of today's mass for flo dockery on his birthday we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer god our father the passion and death of your son brought life to the world help us to recognize the crosses and and sufferings not just in the great trials of life but in day-to-day choices we ask this through christ our lord amen [Music] the lord of sea and sky is [Music] [Applause] my head will save i who made the stars of night i will make this darkness me i will hold your people in my heart [Music] pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father may the lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name for our good and all the good of his holy church regard with favor o lord we pray the offerings we set upon this sacred altar that bestowing on us your pardon our oblations may give honor to your name through christ our lord amen the lord be with you and with your spirit lift up your hearts we lift them up to the lord let us give thanks to the lord our god it is right and just it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord for by your gracious gift each year your faithful await the sacred paschal feasts with the joy of minds made pure so that more eagerly intent on prayer and on the works of charity and participating in the mysteries by which they have been reborn they may be led to the fullness of grace that you bestow on your sons and daughters and so with angels and archangels with thrones and dominions and with all the hosts and powers of heaven we sing the hymn of your glory as without end we acclaim holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory hosanna in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in the highest you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you [Music] in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith save us savior of the world for by your cross and resurrection you have set us free therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and marcel our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and the glory are yours now and forever lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever amen the peace of the lord be with you always are called to the supper of the lamb lord i am not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed an act of spiritual communion my jesus i believe that you are present in the most holy sacrament i love you above all things and i desire to receive you into my soul since i cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally come at least spiritually into my heart i embrace you as if you are already there and unite myself holy to you never permit me to be separated from you amen [Music] under your grace your mercy amazes me your shadow covers me a filled with the holy spirit let us pray having received the blessing of your heavenly gifts we humbly beseech you almighty god that they may always be for us a source both of pardon and of salvation through christ our lord amen the lord be with you and with your spirit bow down for the blessing father bless your children father bless your sons and daughters father give your children the grace to choose life this day and be filled with your life and your blessing father give your children the grace to not worry about tomorrow but to be in your presence your wonderful presence today to delight in you though through this blessing i ask you lord to heal the sick i command all sickness to be gone now in the name of jesus lord through this blessing i ask you to set your children free i command all the powers of darkness to be gone now in the name of jesus be set free in the name of jesus and may the blessing of almighty god descend upon you now the father the son and the holy spirit and remain with you forever amen masses end it go in peace thanks be to god saint michael the archangel defend us in battle be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil may god rebuke him we humbly pray and do thou prince of the heavenly host by the power of god cast into hell satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls amen [Music] though
