holy spirit be with you always as we come together to celebrate the eucharist we remember our need for god's mercy and forgiveness throughout this lenten season i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what i have done and what i have failed to do through my fault through my fault through my most grievous fault therefore i ask blessed mary ever virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life lord have mercy christ have mercy lord have mercy let us pray prompt our actions with your inspiration we pray o lord and further them with your constant help that all we do may always begin from you and by you be brought to completion through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever a reading from the book of deuteronomy moses spoke to the whole people of israel saying see i have set before you today life and prosperity death and adversity if you obey the commandments of the lord your god i am commanding you today by loving the lord your god walking in his ways and observing the commandments decrees and ordinances then you shall live and become numerous and the lord your god will bless you in the land that you are in entering to possess if your heart turns away and you do not hear but are led astray to bow down to other gods and serve them i declare to you today that you will perish you shall not live long in the land that you are crossing the jordan to enter and possess i call heaven and earth to witness against you today that i have set before you life and death blessings and curses choose life so that you and your descendants may live loving the god the lord your god obeying him and holding fast to him for that means life to you in length of days so that you may live in the land that the lord swore to give to your ancestors to abraham isaac and jacob the word of the lord thanks be to god happy are they who hope in the lord r happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked or take the path that sinners tread or sit in the seat of scoffers but their delight is in the law of the lord and on his law they meditate day and night how happy are they they are like trees planted by stream streams of water which yield their fruit in its season and their leaves do not wither in all that they do they prosper happy are they who hope in the lord the wicked are not so but are like chaff that the wind drives away the lord watcheth over the way of the righteous but the way of the wicked will perish happy are they who hope in the lord praise to you lord king of eternal glory praise to you [Music] the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to luke glory to you jesus spoke to his disciples and sternly ordered them not to tell anyone the son of man must undergo great suffering and be rejected by the elders chief priests and scribes and be killed and on the third day rise be raised then he said to them all if any want to become my followers let them deny themselves take up their cross daily and follow me for those who want to save their life will lose it and those who lose their life for my sake will save it what does it profit them if they gain the whole world but lose or forfeit themselves the gospel of the lord prays to you lord jesus christ we have the great advantage of perspective so i'm going to invite you to do something i'm going to invite you to take your hand and point your finger up and to make a circle with but to make this circle uh clockwise make it clockwise so above your head looking up make it a clockwise circle don't get dizzy or anything clockwise circle and slowly keep the turning going on and bring the arm down and then look at it now it's counterclockwise you kept spinning it in the same direction what happened perspective our perspective changed from below the circle to above the circle our perspective is some 2000 years after the death and resurrection of jesus and so we can comprehend we have a meaning we have a framework to be able to understand what it means to take up our cross and to follow christ we have an understanding of centuries of reflection and preaching about what it means to lose one's life to get to to gain eternal life by losing our dying to ourselves if you will as we come to share in the eucharist we seek to have that perspective strengthened and that capacity to follow the lord to to not be concerned about our own selfish nature but to be selfless as he was at the cross blessed are you lord god of all creation for it is through your goodness that we have this bread to offer which earth has given human hands have made to become for us the bread of life blessed be god blessed are you lord god of all creation for it is through your goodness we have this wine to offer fruit of the vine and work of human hands to become for us our spiritual drink blessed be god forever pray my brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours might be acceptable to god the father the almighty may the lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of god's name for our good and the good of all god's holy church regard with favor o lord we pray the offerings we set upon this sacred altar that bestowing on us your pardon our oblations may give honor to your name through christ our lord the lord be with you lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord for by your gracious gift each year your faithful await the sacred paschal feasts with the joy of minds made pure so that more eagerly intent on prayer and on the works of charity and participating in the mysteries by which they have been reborn they may be led to the fullness of grace that you bestow on your sons and daughters and so with angels and angels with thrones and dominions and with all the hosts and powers of heaven we sing the hymn of your glory as without end we acclaim holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory hosanna in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in the highest [Music] you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice once more giving thanks he gave the chalice to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith we proclaim your death o lord and profess your resurrection until you come again therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you've held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and the blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope thomas our bishop and all the clergy remember your remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours for ever and ever r amen at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and the glory are yours now and forever lord jesus christ you said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but in the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever the peace of the lord be
