holy spirit individual and with your spirit so good morning everyone good morning father so welcome persian of saint mary's those who are visiting and those who are watching online today is the last day before lent tomorrow is the start of lent ash wednesday and so it's good it's good to prepare ourselves for for this lenten season brothers and sisters acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries you were sent to heal the contrite of hearts lord of mercy lord have mercy you came to call sinners christ have mercy christ have mercy you are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us lord have mercy lord have mercy may mighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen let us pray almighty ever living god increase our faith hope and charity and make us love what you command so that we may merit what you promise to our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever amen a reading from the first letter of peter beloved the prophets who prophesied of the grace that was to be yours made careful search and inquiry concerning this salvation inquiring about the person or time that the spirit of christ within them indicated when it testified in advance to the sufferings and the subsequent glory destined for christ it was revealed to the prophets that they were serving not themselves but you in regard to the things that have now been announced to you through those who brought you good news by the holy spirit sent from heaven things into which angels long to look therefore prepare your minds for action discipline yourselves set all your hope on the grace that jesus christ will bring you when he is revealed like obedient children do not be conformed to the desires that you formerly had in ignorance instead as he who called you is holy be holy yourselves in all your conduct for it is written you shall be holy for i am holy the word of the lord thanks be to god [Music] the lord has made known his salvation oh sing to the lord a new song for he has done marvelous things his right hand is holy i've won him victory the lord has made known his salvation the lord has been known his victory he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations he has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of [Music] blessed are you father lord of heaven and earth you have revealed to the little ones the mysteries of the kingdom oh [Music] the lord with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to mark glory to you o lord peter began to say to jesus look we have left everything and followed you jesus said truly i tell you there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and for the sake of the good news who will not receive a hundred fold now in this age houses brothers and sisters mothers and children and fields with persecutions and in the age to come eternal life but many who are first will be last and the last will be first the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ so many times where we're easily influenced by either society or culture especially when we we think about excellence you know and uh in school we see that because of the the the honor system only a few would get honors and for me i would always be envious about my other classmates who would get honors and for me i didn't get any honors when i was studying either in elementary high school or university no honors i i would fail a lot and i would be envious of them and because and my classmates who are this kind of chosen few were very bright intelligent they get to get to go to prestigious university and after that they go to work for multinational companies and for me i was like very envious of them and uh and we see that also right you know in in uh in in sports many people love to play hockey but only a chosen few will get to enter the nhl and also with other like artists you know for those who like uh singing uh singing songs or playing instruments or joining a band only a chosen few would have this records or cds or and and get these awards and sometimes we translate that into the spiritual life okay especially with regards to holiness and for me i have a wrong perception of holiness so many uh uh so many times in the past when i get discouraged there's inside of me i wanted to be holy but i know it's so hard to be holy and i think it's only for the chosen few and because of that i get this courage how many of you have that kind of uh feeling emotions also okay yeah i think most of us but holiness this is what pope benedict the 16 talk about holiness and when i read this i felt consoled and i hope you i hope you feel consult also this is what pope benedict xvi said holiness does not consist in not making mistakes or not sinning holiness grows with capacity for conversion repentance willingness to begin again and above all with a capacity for reconciliation and forgiveness holiness does not consist in not making mistakes or not sinning okay it's about starting all over again whenever you fall you start all over again it's striving for conversion striving for repentance that is holiness and this holiness is not just for um the the the chosen or it's not just reserved for the privileged few in in our first reading today it says they're like obedient children do not be conformed to the desires that you formerly had in ignorance instead as he who called you is holy be holy yourselves in all your conduct for it is written you shall be holy for i am holy this call is for everyone it's not just for the chosen few and because this is this call is for everyone the grace that the lord has given us is also for everyone we all have the same grace and grace is like the sun that shines to all men okay grace is also available for each and every one of us now it's up to us whether we would rely on that grace or not for for those who have grown in their sanctity and became saints they are ones who acknowledge that they are they really need this grace without this grace it's impossible to grow in holiness and that's what we need really to to to to really acknowledge that we're weak we need grace we need power that comes from on high so that we will be able to grow in holiness holiness also is is also equivalent to love okay as we know for us to grow in holiness we need to follow the commandments and the commandments it boils down to two greatest commandments love god and love others okay that's why if we're striving to love we're also striving for holiness okay mother teresa once said this holiness is not a luxury for the few it is not just for some people it is meant for you and for me and for all of us it is a simple duty because if we learn to love we learn to be holy okay so this coming land this the start of land let's let's ask the lord lord how can i grow in holiness how can i grow in loving other people and grant me the grace to be able to do that aware of the danger in putting our trust in the pleasures of this world we lift up our hearts in fervent prayer to the father that the church throughout the world may be an effective sign of the way to everlasting happiness and eternal life let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that we may learn to trust in spiritual values which enrich our being and not in material possessions which bring discontent to our souls let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that we may never close our hearts to those in need but consciously involve ourselves in christ's work of healing and reconciling let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that the sick and the disabled may experience the lord's care to the love of their neighbors and friends let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that our deceased relatives and friends may enjoy god's peace in heaven let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer let's also pray for for peace in ukraine right now let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for the special intentions of this mass for the intentions of joseline saleh let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer heavenly father look with compassion in the needy enlighten our lives with your truth and give us the grace to live out the high ideals put before us by your son jesus offerings we make to your majesty that whatever is done by us in your service may be directed above all to your glory through christ our lord amen the lord be with you and with your spirit lift up your hearts we lift them up to the lord let us give thanks to the lord our god it is right and just it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god for in goodness you created man and when he was justly condemned in mercy you redeemed him through christ our lord through him the angels praised your majesty the minions adore and powers tremble before you heaven and the virgins of heaven and the blessed seraphim worship together with exaltation may our voices we pray join with theirs in humble praise as we acclaim holy in the name of the lord you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the jew fall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread giving thanks broke it gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you [Music] in a similar way when supper was ascended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me [Music] the mystery of faith we proclaim your death o lord and profess your resurrection until you come again therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope marcel our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in of their resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we are married to be co-heirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you to your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours for ever and ever amen [Applause] at a savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not to temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil grace to grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and the glory of yours now and forever lord jesus christ said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but in the fate of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever amen the peace of the lord be with you you're most welcome to come and then the the nine o'clock and the 7 30 p.m will be live stream uh for those who couldn't come uh so you could watch online and also try to remember that pope francis is asking catholics to join him in doing this fast uh on ash wednesday for peace uh in ukraine okay uh so let's let's join our holy father with that uh endeavor the lord be with you and with your spirit may mighty god bless you the father and the son and the holy spirit amen go in peace thanks be to god saint michael the archangel defend us in battle be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil may god rebuke him we humbly pray and our prince of the heavenly host by the power of god cast into our satan and all the evil spirits who prowl through the world seeking the ruin
