cursed to see my sin upon the cross [Music] you step down into darkness open my eyes let me see beauty that made this heart adore you hope of our life spent with you so here i am to worship here i am to bow down here i am to say that you're my god [Music] me [Music] name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit the lord be with you and with your spirit today we're celebrating the feast of the presentation of the lord to the temple let's open our hearts who loves us let's acknowledge our sins and receive his mercy lord jesus you did indeed rend the heavens and come down to save us lord have mercy lord have mercy lord jesus you came to seek and to save the lost christ have mercy christ have mercy lord jesus you make all things new lord have mercy lord have mercy may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen glory to god in the highest and on earth peace to people of good will we praise you we bless you we adore you we glorify you we give you thanks for your great glory lord god heavenly king oh god almighty father lord jesus christ only begotten son lord god lamb of god son of the father you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us you take away the sins of the world receive our prayer you are seated at the right hand of the father have mercy on us for you alone are the holy one you alone are the lord you alone are the most high jesus christ with the holy spirit in the glory of god the father amen let us pray almighty ever living god we humbly implore your majesty that just as your only begotten son was presented on this day in the temple in the substance of our flesh so by your grace we may be presented to you with minds made pure through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever a reading from the book of the prophet malachi thus says the lord god see i am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me and the lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight indeed he is coming says the lord of hosts but who can endure the day of his coming and who can stand when he appears for he is like a refiner's fire and like fuller soap he will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver and he will purify the sons of levi and refine them like gold and silver until they present offerings to the lord in righteousness then the offering of judah and jerusalem will be pleasing to the lord as in the days of old and as in former years the word of the lord thanks be to god glory who is the king of glory the lord strong and mighty [Music] the lord of hosts he is king of glory who is a king of glory the lord of hosts he is the king of glory the lord of hosts he is king of glory [Music] a reading from the letter to the hebrews it was fitting that god for whom and through whom all things exist in bringing many sons and daughters to glory should make the source of their salvation perfect through sufferings for the one who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all one for this reason he is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters saying here am i and the children whom god has given me since the children share flesh and blood jesus himself likewise shared the same things so that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death that is the devil and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by the fear of death for it is clear that jesus did not come to help angels but the descendants of abraham therefore he had to become like his brothers and sisters in every respect so that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of god to make a sacrifice of atonement for the sins of the people because jesus himself was tested by what he suffered he is able to help those who are being tested the word of the lord thanks be to god hallelujah [Music] a light for revelation to descend us and for glory to your people is [Music] oh [Music] the lord be with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to luke glory to you o lord when the time came for their purification according to the law of moses mary and joseph brought the child jesus up to jerusalem to present him to the lord as it is written in the law of the lord every firstborn male shall be designated as holy to the lord and they offered a sacrifice according to what is stated in the law of the lord a pair of turtledoves and two young pigeons now there was a man in jerusalem whose name was simeon this man was righteous and devout looking forward to the consolation of israel and the holy spirit rested on him it had been revealed to him by the holy spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the christ of the lord guided by the spirit simeon came into the temple and when the parents brought in the child jesus to do for him what was customary under the law simeon took him in his arms and praised god saying master now you are dismissing your servant in peace according to your word for my eyes have seen your salvation which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples a light for revelation to the gentiles and for the glory to your people israel and the child's father and mother were amazed at what was being said about him then simeon blessed them and said to his mother mary this child is destined for the falling and the rising of many in israel and to be a sign that will be opposed so that the inner thoughts of many will be revealed and a sword will pierce your own soul too there was also a prophet anna the daughter of phanuel of the tribe of asher she was of a great age having lived with her husband seven years after her marriage then as a widow to the age of 84 she never left the temple but worshiped there with fasting and prayer night and day at that moment she came and began to praise god and to speak about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of jerusalem when mary and joseph had finished everything required by the law of the lord they returned to galilee to their own town of nazareth the child grew and became strong filled with wisdom and the favor of god was upon him the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ mary and joseph went up to jerusalem with the child and our lord jesus growing up his parents would take him up to jerusalem and jesus recognized that this was his father's house now i didn't grow up going to jerusalem but i grew up going to montreal maybe once or twice a year and when we drive into montreal our dad would drive us into montreal as children he'd always say look off in the distance on that on the top of the hill the big dome my dad would say that was built by a humble brother a holy man a saint people came to brother andre they were healed he told them about the love of god he told people to trust the lord that the father takes care of them and you know our dad would do whatever business he had to do in montreal and then we would always make a visit to the oratory and it has such an impression upon me as a child it's a beautiful place and it's also massive you i'm sure you've been in saint joseph oratory the big under the dome just i mean one of the biggest domes in the world um and then the beautiful chapels and and of course every time we'd go we'd light a candle and say prayers and we'd see the crutches we'd visit um saint brother andre's uh tomb and so on and we'd we'd walk outside our dad taught us he said saint brother andre said well at the time i don't even know if he was beatified that's that's uh years ago but our dad said brother andre said the greatest miracles will happen at the stations of the cross people reflecting on the passion of the christ so we typically do the stations um and just just kind of wander around saint joseph's oratory and for me as a young person there was there was something spiritual you know something something profound deep within it felt good to be in this holy place and so much so that as i got a little older and older friends of mine started talking about summer jobs what kind of summer jobs they wanted i always thought oh i would love a summer job at the oratory you know maybe cutting the lawn or sweeping the floors or whatever and simply to be in this holy place because i guess as a child you know child children have a certain innocence a a purity of heart i guess as a child i felt god's inside saint joseph's oratory like i felt loved by god i could kind of i knew god was here and and there was this this instinct i'd love to be in god's holy presence in this holy place all summer and and be part of the beautifying of this place and the caring of this place and honoring this place you know by cutting the lawn or whatever sweeping the floors um and the the truth is brothers and sisters our natural habitat as children of god is god's presence god's holy presence is what we were made all of etern house of the father to be with god for all of eternity that's what we were made for in a beautiful place that's why we also experience something of this you know when you go to the ocean you know maybe on a tropical island the beautiful ocean and all that again we have a sense oh i was made for this this this glorious beauty and the ocean of course is in many ways an image of god or when we go to the mountains there's something that resonates inside of us again our natural habitat we were made for heaven our citizenship is in heaven in the presence of god and any of these beautiful places mountains beaches whatever it's not paradise without god's holy presence and that's again when going to saint joseph's oratory i'm sure lord jesus going to the temple there's something about the presence of god we have an instinct for this we know we're made for god to adore him to worship him to be in his holy presence for all of eternity and so as we meditate on the presentation of the lord of the lord in the temple we can remember that every one of us was made to be with god for god to adore him every one of us is meant to to to consecrate ourselves to give ourselves to god and to live for him alone and the ideal is that we already enter into this mystery in this life already in this life we live in his holy presence because his presence is the most wonderful thing scripture says seek his presence constantly christ shines as the light of salvation to all nations and the glory of his people let us bring our prayers to the father who gave up his only son for us that the church may show to the world the true face of christ and be a sign of salvation to all let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that those in authority may render selfless service to society have the courage to speak and act in the name of truth and justice and bear witness to the love of christ we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that we may be inspired by the obedience of our lady and saint joseph to always observe the precepts of the church we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that fathers and mothers may inspire their children to follow christ by their own examples we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that our beloved dead may go forth into god's peace and rejoice forever with mary and all the saints we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer we also pray for all who are sick especially larry share we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer we pray for the intention of today's mass for the repose of the soul of rosa and tito's deceased family members we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer lord without you we are in darkness may your light shine brightly in us that we may become in our own way reflections of your light we ask us through christ our lord amen [Music] be the center of my life from beginning to the end it will always be it's always been you jesus tea and nothing else [Music] jesus you're the standard [Music] everything revolves around you [Music] jesus you [Music] jesus [Music] pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father may the lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name for our good and the good of all his holy church may the offering made with exaltation by your church be pleasing to you o lord we pray for you will that your only begotten son be offered to you for the life of the world as the lamb without blemish who lives and reigns forever and ever amen the lord be with you and with your spirit lift up your hearts we lift them up to the lord let us give thanks to the lord our god it is right and just it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god for you co-eternal son was for your co-eternal son was presented on this day in the temple and revealed by the spirit as the glory of israel and the light of the nations and so we too go forth rejoicing to encounter your salvation and with the angels and saints we praise you without end as we acclaim holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory hosanna in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in the highest you are indeed holy oh lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me [Music] the mystery of faith save us savior of the world for by your cross and resurrection you have set us free therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and marcel our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever amen at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and the glory are yours now and forever lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever amen the peace of the away the sins of the world blessed are those who are called to the supper of the lamb lord i am not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed an act of spiritual communion my jesus i believe that you are present in the most holy sacrament i love you above all things and i desire to receive you into my soul since i cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally come at least spiritually into my heart i embrace you as if you're already there and unite myself holy to you never permit me to be separated from you amen [Music] [Music] if the altar is you need us take me there take me there [Music] if the altars were take me there take me there if what you need is just enough it's right here my life is here and i'll be living sacrifice for you bring your grace to perfection within us and as you fulfilled simeon's expectation that he would not see death until he had been privileged to welcome the christ so may we going forth to meet the lord obtain the gift of eternal life through christ our lord amen if you brought candles hold them up right now we're going to bless your candles today's a traditional day to bless candles our help is in the name of the lord who made heaven and earth heavenly father let your blessing come upon these candles let these candles be instruments of your power and grace let these candles um bring your wonderful light let these candles through your power dispel the darkness and bring your glorious presence may almighty god bless your candles the father the son and the holy spirit amen the lord be with you and with your spirit bow down for the blessing father fill your children through this blessing with your heavenly light father through this blessing let your son jesus enter the temples of the holy spirit the bodies and souls of each person receiving this blessing lord fill your children with your heavenly delights this day father let this blessing drive out all darkness father let this blessing bring healing to body mind soul and spirit father let this blessing be a protection from all harm and may almighty god bless you the father the son and the holy spirit and remain with you forever amen mass is ended go in peace thanks be to god saint michael the archangel defend us in battle be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil may god rebuke him we humbly pray and do thou prince to the heavenly host by the power of god cast into hell satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls amen to my soul hope for tomorrow it
