Catch, Cook and Camp - Smokey Mountains Edition!

what is going on guys and welcome to the very first catch and on my youtube channel they it'd be one of many edge cooks and camps to come I am on the beautiful well it's not really beautiful at the moment cuz the water so low this particular Cove is looking mighty low and kind of sad quite frankly I hate seeing the boat dock out of the water but it's normal this time of year early spring this is Lake Douglas in Tennessee I've been touring Tennessee having a great time lovely state and the people the people in particular are amazing I'm loving it today though we are doing a little camp the next 24 hours just just a one-night thing just one night thing we're gonna fish run a camp we're gonna cook up our catch mean explore new places never fish this lake before my life it is gonna be fun here is our setup so one person tent I'm flying solo today check this out here so we got a little tent we've got this is the this is the luxury suite here we've got a nice little mattress under there that I stole from a hotel no just kidding but I got nice little futon and some extra bedding there nice pillow so we are going to be living in luxury this evening but anyway I really like this nice little tent I can it folds up super small and I can put it my suitcase and fly all over anywhere in the country that I want and I got got it for that reason because they're gonna be many catch cooks and camps in the future and it's a cheap way to go I mean you get like $10 a night for a place instead of you know $100 a night for hotel room anyway we also have here our picnic table that comes with our little camping spot here we have all the catch and cook stuff already got our little stove right under there we've got a full thing of butane we have some New Orleans fish fry picked up at Walmart the other day on my way here some fish fry season I'm actually tried to New Orleans brand before it is delicious we got vegetable oil of course we have my first cast seasoning this little little like old bay that's what it's called I was looking for the particular type I don't see what Pattaya type type it is but and we got a little tiny can of Old Bay seasoning very delicious in case we catch some crawdads we got a Turan shrimp and crab boy as well and in salt and pepper so we are all ready to go when we catch some fish on the fishing side here I brought with me in my travels this is I usually just pack one box and try to think about like what's in the area we have a lot of like shad and shiner color basically minnow whites bluegill type lures and stuff like that because they have a lot of baitfish here unlike Idaho which is mostly the crawfish a lot of crawfish colors like this is a really popular Idaho jig here a brown one but I threw the white in there since we're down south also brought a nice variety of crappie jigs because we are in crappie country in fact I'm really excited I'll tell you bout the crappie in a second but basically this is a crappie Lake like I said if you want crappie you came to the right place we also have a good variety of frogs down south bass love the frogs all kinds of top top artists including some whopper Kloppers and then I brought my shed rattle traps so we are pretty well set up I also brought some Robo worms because I can't go anywhere without Robo worms don't know how effective they are down south I know they're dynamite for the Pacific Northwest but I brought some who knows maybe some some Pacific Northwest Idaho type fishing some drop shot fishing with these will be good down here because the bass have never seen it before we also brought the east videos tackle box of course you guys I'll put a link to this in the description below for sale $19.99 get a super great deal on six different colors of Dry Creek tubes that these are six of my favorite colors we'll use that later and then we got the terminal tackle box nothing super special in there I have here one bait casting rod these are actually collapsible for peace fishing rods I travel with and we got this beautiful beautiful crank they've got it brand new at the store KVD shad colored crank bait thought I'd go I don't buy a lot of shad colored crank baits because I'm an Idaho boy but I thought when you aren't an Idaho anymore better get some some shad colors nice little shallow runner I'm really excited to use this this evening then we have a nice jiggy I actually just got this jig as well today has a little bit of purple flake in it and it's hand tied by a local guy and the guy the tackle store said it was a really good one we've tipped that with the cheaper crawl and then this is the main rod we're gonna use first actually a little slip bobber rig there for crappie because as I said before this Lake is famous for crappie I just got this to the tackle store paid only three bucks for this nice this phone cooler not nice but it'll get me through we have a floater but we have minnows here for these crappie folks look at that I don't even know what kind knees are I should ask the tackle store in fact wait let me look here these it's called flat no those aren't flathead minnows I honestly have no idea what they are but we got some minnows we are going to go bobber minnow fishing right at first so here's the deal at first I was disappointed that the lake was so low because sometimes everyone saw that can be little bit tough fishing but I'm actually really happy about it because when the water is this low you have access to way more shoreline if the water was all the way up here like we can only go to that house right there before we're on private property and you can't go any further when the water is low like this I get I literally have access to montt although the entire lake I have access the entire lake from shore cuz I have no boat no kayak so I'm really happy actually that it's it's low water should be a fantastic time we're all well set up yeah we'll come back to this spot and do our cooking and camp out for the night but for now let's go explore the lake so coming out here folks we have a couple of options were we have a Cove here and then like there's the main lake and that Cove in the back she there's like a lay down right there and some rocks that looks like it could be good for crappie but I don't know if the crappie are in the back of coves or they're on the points and my gut feeling says at this time of year since it's early spring they're on the points so we're gonna try that first but we may have to move around quite a bit we got lots of good wood around the shrimp at look like something gathered some up right there yeah lots of good wood for when we want to make fire all right got a basic slip bobber rig on up there folks get them in or out it's kind of interesting because there's a church it's really cool a church on the right on the lakeshore over there and a person actually told me that one of guys the tackle store told me that was a good fishing spot so I have to go over there it's very scenic very beautiful grab one of these minnows bobber is not going under but it's swim in sideways I don't know if that's the current must be the current let's be a strong current you guys I got something I got something literally I was just reeling in to get ready to recast and something bid it oh it's a tiny bass first catch of the first ever catch cooking camp voila technically folks we could actually eat this guy there's no size limit on her mouth in here alright my friends we are switching it up because the wind has picked up like crazy haven't caught anything yet besides the small bass and I just really want a bass fish really want a bass perch and we have a wind whoa we have a windswept point coming up here and a whole bunch of rocks and riprap I just got to fish it she's got a fish in it whoa this is big dead gar it's like petrified weird alright guys first lure we're starting off with is this it's this great big strike king shallow running crankbait we're gonna bounce off these rocks as we work our way around the point it's gotten windy about 20 mile an hour gusts we're gonna work our way around got one got one first fish yes oh yes second fish first decent fish though oh nice yes first real fish real nice bass of Tennessee woo that feels good on that new crank bait right in the bottom lip which is interesting you came up right behind it just kind of tagged it not a monster but be a keeper in a tournament this is like somebody's tournament Lake and as like a bass fisherman at previous tournament bass fisherman I'm kind of I would be mad I've been mad if somebody came to like my local lake where I tournament fished and like started keeping nice largemouth [Music] well guys I lost that crankbait unfortunately $7.50 it down the drain I really like that thing too but we have a white spinnerbait here made by local guides handmade by by local cut anywhere we're gonna try this got one got one right on this point right on this point on spinnerbait not a big one what oh we got a wall line guys oh whoa I've only caught like six walleye ever before this is like my seventh on this lake they have to be 15 inches to keep though I don't know man that's not looking like 15 that's close I cannot believe I caught a walleye that is so cool it's hard to find the lakes where these even exist in Idaho all right guys I put him on a stringer for a second so that I could look up the regulations and even if this guy was over 14 inches I still couldn't keep him because there's all there's a short earlier there's a season on them and season ain't open so there goes [Music] [Music] that dude wall up to the spinnerbait so hard it bent it out gotta bend it back in the shape here ha let's kind of get out of the wind here guys for white white spinnerbait getting it done super cool to catch three different species right at this spot it is 6 o'clock though which is dinner time for me we don't have any fish to cook at the moment but of course I brought some other food from some camp and I'm not just to eat fish for two days so we're gonna head back to camp grab some food and they weren't try to get on an evening table water white as that Sun is going down I know of a little spot that a a local guy told me about back at camp oh nice to get out of that wind that wind was gusty in the tenth year I hit fire oops I hid my cooler at it what the oh that was my bad it came loose oh well take care of that in a second and I got my cooler here what we're doing is I love my backpackers a little stove here guys it's very convenient just flip it on and you've got heat but I've got hot dogs for dinner hot dogs just aren't the same if they're not cooked over a flame fire roasted hot dogs aren't just my just the only way to happen so what we're gonna do since it is calm in this Cove is we're gonna go down here what's fairly calm I say that no gust of wind comes up but it's pretty calm right in this bowl we're gonna build a little fire and we're gonna roast some hot dogs look at like a little spot to sit even mm-hmm well folks I don't know about y'all but I'm the eat one war perfectly cooked fire roasted hot dog and let's get back to fishing all right let's hit the road when you have about 20 25 minutes is my guess before gets too dark to fish well there's a creek that runs in right up here guys and I wanted to fish it but that bass boats right there yes I got one I got one I got one oh yes yes yes yeah let's dig right on this point yes on the spinnerbait they didn't want the top oh he just came off oh yes that is like the kicker fish to the day yeah I feel like we'd have a lot more light still if it wasn't so darn cloudy but is it beautiful out here it's like 62 degrees or so and it's just gorgeous up here in the Tennessee mountains catching largemouth bass that is so fun thank you what about a little over 2 pounder there hey guys I think that's a wrap mmm well these minnows keep till in the morning they're pretty Hardy I'm gonna change their water I think he'll they'll keep till tomorrow morning we kept some crappie hopefully all right folks let's see do I crawl in like a dog and then you turn around or do I just kind of back in Wow face it's long enough for me to fit it it's like seven feet so if you are over seven feet tall this isn't a good tent for you I was a little bit worried in fact when I first took it out of its package cuz I'd never set it up until today my first set this tent up I said to myself oh no I think I either didn't bring something with it or this is gonna be too small cuz then it just everything rolled out and I was like this is it but it ended up setting up really nice it's cooler making these tents like super lightweight and compact and can travel anywhere with them so it's perfect for me and with this small of a tent it's like still warm inside of its like keeping the heat in which is really nice it's about 58 degrees I saw this 58 on every section on the thermometer over there and supposed to get down like 48 or 45 for a low tonight which I don't mind I love sleeping in the cold weather I don't know about you guys sleeping the cold weather is way better um I'm gonna sleep in hot weather like in the summertime it's hot it's so hard to fall asleep when it's like 80 degrees outside and you have the bugs too right now early spring no bugs out whatsoever no don't worry very few snakes at the snakes I think only come out I hope anyway only come out um when the Sun is out otherwise at night I don't think they're very active at 45 degrees so it's just perfect sleeping weather I loved early spring early spring cam is the best summertime I don't know you're sticky it's hot it's buggy and this is just perfect perfect time in the Tennessee mountains here so word get to bed kind of early tonight so we can wake up right at daybreak let that son wake us up I'm bushed we're get to bed see y'all tomorrow oh one more thing thank you I do have in case some of y'all are wondering I have my gun right here it's not much but it's something so if any wild animals or wild human beings coming visit to try to visit me tonight I have it in blue right there locked and ready I am solo camping so I'm in a campground shouldn't have any trouble but you never know what comes out to look at the river at night so see y'all tomorrow hopefully [Music] [Music] nice perfect how did I sleep last night okay I think the moon was so bright did it kept waking me up I was comfortable and everything else but I think the moon was so bright I just kept I kept waking up shining through my tent I one time even open tanks oh it must be morning now nope still you know still completely dark it was just them to the moon is I was pretty crazy so this is there's one little drawback to this if the moon is out this is so thin so thin the light from the moon he comes through quite chilly this morning look beautiful all over you can see the Sun coming through this would be fun first thing I'm gonna do is make up some coffee I'm actually using these for the first time as well these are like little backpackers coffee mugs linked to this little system in the description I really like it and we have some instant Folgers coffee there smells really good like a chilly morning outside there's a red cardinal look at the chilly morning outside and then you have like this little hot cup of coffees bill nice you know I almost forgot folks they're alive yes all our crappie bait is like you guys said they last pretty long I was a little bit skeptical but wow there you go change their water right before that's good seven hours um I'll change their water right now again just make sure they stay fresh but sweet you know there's something to be said for like traveling around light for just like having two fishing rods and one box of tackle yeah I used to turn them in bass fishing you know you just get like the tackle just piles up or after a while it's like this is kind of this is kind of ridiculous like I'm never gonna use all of this like 30 different colors of the same bait and each colors really a lot of different colors aren't that different I don't know you know and you always tell yourself well there might be a use for this or might be an application or there might be a day where they want the red flake or whatever and and that's kind of true but kind of gets ridiculous how much to tackle that piles up after a while morning spinnerbait you know it still hasn't quite recovered from that smallmouth that straightened it out it's a little bent out of shape first cast of the day by the way if you guys wanna check out my first cast seasoning I'll put a link to it in the description it is done this she spinnerbait I'm getting a spinnerbait back folks what we're gonna do is I'm gonna tie it off we're gonna clip the line we're diving in later it'll be operation save the spinnerbait later I want that spinner bite back there we go hopefully nobody messes with it the next few hours all right let's move on all right folks all right all right big striking sexy shared a crankbait I put some scent on a two that's why it looks a little funny I put some the gel dry crews got his gel scent so it'll stick to it let's see what we got yeah on this point and see if we can dump duplicate or replicate yesterday oh my goodness guys so my four piece travel rod it didn't break it just came apart so I really have to get this crankbait back now otherwise I lose my fishing rod as well like my $70 fishing rod I don't know how the heck that happened ah this is not a good morning so far folks we gotta take care of this here what I'm gonna do is we're gonna clip the line right about there tied on to the stick and then I have to kind of stick this in the water annoys somebody you might come along and mess with it there we go folks and we're gonna come back when it's warmer and we're gonna go swimming because I absolutely have to have the second half of this rod for the rest of the trip the only place I found these uh four-piece travel bait caster rods is online I've seen spinning rods like a Cabela's before but never the bait caster so we absolutely have to get that hat top half back the highs and lows of fishing folks let's go back let's get some breakfast well reassess what we're gonna do all right my friends we have our little stove on for this morning's breakfast we have eggs of course and we're trying something brand new have never tried before I got this at Walmart it is salted pork wouldn't try this never try it before what's the difference mean like bacon and salted pork don't know but I do know from history books and stuff that they used to eat salted pork all the time like back in the pioneer days stuff like that and so I thought I'm gonna try it let me try it now some mother coat the pan nice and evenly [Music] cracks eggs break those up salt them real good pepper all right the eggs are looking delicious but even kind of looks like bacon it's just like bacon coated in salt oh no it's sick okay it is different probably a different part of the pig makes me a lot of fat that comes off that I mean look how fatty the that stuff is this is gonna take a while to cook so I'm gonna dip into my eggs before they get cold mmm that's that porks no good guys don't forget good to me we get this nice and crispy here let's see if this piece is probably done yeah here's a piece that I know is done it is so thin though I have that salt pork first time looks like bacon kind of overly salty they're remarkably like bacon pig of course but just like really really salty bacon like you kind of need to mix it with something that maybe what it's for like if I mixed it with eggs that probably the best a little egg yes you see how like ridiculous the amount of fat leftover is [Music] he's kind of funny these are gonna meet some salty eggs folks let's see here that's probably the purpose of salt pork is to as far as why they still sell it nowadays I know they just use salt to preserve it back in the day probably just used for cooking or maybe there a few like older people who really really liked it but it's it's just like super salty bacon see that has to be used just for cooking because even when you mix some eggs in it it's like wow it kind of takes the fun out of it folks my conclusion is them I'm glad I tried it I was curious but just get regular bacon from now on all right my friends we are back under the same bridge we were just under except we're on the other side of the river and there's a couple parking spots and there's obviously a trail and some trash so people come down here to fish a little bit of a walk down to the bank but looks like it could be good the bank is steeper on this side here what do you think guys I'm thinking this looks like crappie city right here minnows for days and they are lively and healthy that is cool when I'm in Hawaii and they use minnows it's hard because I guess maybe it's a saltwater minnow thing they die so quickly they're so finicky and you can't keep them in a cooler for longer than an hour maybe before they all start flipping over but I've had these guys for going on 24 hours here and there just as lively as ever oh man folks right by haha here we go got a slip bobber rig on by the way it's me first cast oh yeah oh yeah guys I got one now it just feels like a good fish I don't know if this is a crappie exactly this is a good fish I do I really like pound test line so I'm not playing them that hard so this might be a crappie might be just one of those big Tennessee crappie I'm really willing to get one of those come on what are you what are you I can't be too cheeky about it it's a smallmouth that's cool that's cool but I was hoping for a meat fish yeah I put an extra big minnow on there yes oh it's beautiful right in the top of the lip whoo that's cool oops nice a solid Tennessee smallmouth nice about 15 inches or so they have to be 18 inches in this lake to keep so beautiful fish there you go buddy got one guys it's not very big wait we have a crappie yes but it's kind of small thing it's I think they I know that actually they have to be ten inches more bigger to keep folks unfortunately beautiful finally catch our first Tennessee crappie but a little too small by a few inches for enough to let this guy go that's a good sign though there's proper usually school up so let's get it back down there guys got one gosh every time I cameras off they've been biting right by the piling they're backed right in front of it which is interesting I was casting behind it the whole time in like first cast to the very front of that thing where the current hits against I get a bite this feels like a bass unless it's a giant crappie no it's a shoot I'm young like bats don't get me wrong this is fun but when you're hoping for lunch actually I could keep a large mouth hmm that's a nice keeping size - he's like he's a little bit undersized for a tournament but there's no size limit to actually eating them here but you know for a tournament to be at 12 inches or probably 14 down south 14 inches that's guys about 12 inches yeah we keep on a stringer whilst we think about it around this big stick here well guys good time at this spot for bass or a largemouth a smallmouth enter crappie but it's about as warm as gonna get today and we have a little task we got to do still here was a little bit worried that some other fishermen might be out what it just gunned well there's no go on the spinner bait I don't that snaps super easy I wasn't even pulling at that hard we got to be extra careful with the fishing rod all right hopes the towel yep this is all still there and yes it's still snagged it's worth see if we're down to mmm and then you lose your car keys and you lose a whole car just stuff like 78 79 dollars worth of stuff down there yeah everything's intact to tell you the truth the waters not too bad it's outside the water that of reason the waters hashing waters quite warm today the truth may be so funny if in future videos I catch a big bass on this you like this is the crank bay that I recovered and maybe catch it on this fishing rod - oh I feel refreshed now actually felt really good I'm glad it didn't it let's uh let's fight let's go to a new spot let's go to a brand-new spot that a guy just told me about never even been there before it's another bridge today the tackle store guy he gave me about half a dozen places to go look at he said or you could catch some fish oh nice look we got a wood here in fact we could kind of use this as a table and stuff for when we hopefully hopefully we catch crappie that is our last goal folks catch some crappie this looks good somebody lost oh it's for stuff somebody lost a football that's like an official NFL one a Wilson NFL Oh Oh guys we missed one missed one he's down there though he's down there Bob were just suddenly it just went under real slowly like that like that like got it got it better we got a home hi goodness oh there went the minnow holy mackerel guys whoa I don't know if that fish was trying to eat it or mate with it did I just I don't know if that was the bottom or I have one guys I have one I have one he must have bit it right when I started to reel in cuz I couldn't feel him before Oh oh my gosh hey guys guys it's a tiny bass and there was a giant bass following the tiny bass I guess why am i letting him back down there it's not like even if the big bass came up and ate the tiny bass I got him I got that big bass I got that big bass guys oh he's off he's off guys the big bass ate the little bass oh my gosh this is crazy swim back down there little fella what might happen what might happen is if the hook if I can get that big bass to swallow the little one he might um he might swallow the little one and maybe that little tiny hook can't get in the bass as big bass his throat oh he he got he gone little bass is gone guys oh my gosh that is nuts I'm afraid that little bass he gone he's uh he's no more got ate up by his cousin he's big big cousin there's something really funny I just thought about that Here I am using the tiny minnow and a small bass comes over eats the tiny minnow but then a big bass comes over and eats the small bass it's a fish-eat-fish world down there folks guys I got one got one yes we got is it a crappie yes feels like about oh oh no it's a bass it's the best it's a nice one no oh there he goes dang it oh he just threw the I thought you snapped line just threw the hook got it oh ho oh my gosh oh my gosh my squeezy we got a big bass here we had a big bass oh look at this look at this okay oh my gosh this might be that one that chased the little fish huh look at him oh man guys oh no no no get away from that rock if they're right second guys have six pound test and a light wire hook so he could either Bend up the hook or break the line here for not careful we got to be extra careful I'm mostly worried about the hook like landing them on six pound test is no problem whoa it's the light wire Oh guys this is cool this is cool oh my goodness come on come on come on baby she's gonna go crazy when she she sees me one more kick out of you oh my goodness and look at the just right in the corner right in the corner of the mouth look at that that is gorgeous oh man oh my goodness wow what a fight that was exciting Oh folks oh man guys it's time to start cooking but what I've done here is I've added two minnows to this thing and we're just gonna throw those guys out there quite a ways and I've set the slip bobber for deeper we're gonna throw it out there let that slide down then we're gonna start cleaning our fish and cooking yeah and do my friends we're gonna set up our cook and stuff right here that way we can still fish and look at the bobber guys bobbers gone Barbara's gone got him what do we got another bass while setting up the cooking stuff a little small e there you go buddy tell your crappie friends it's a party up here me in okay look at that found ourselves a cutting board folks nothing like filet or largemouth folks that's not a beautiful fillet job then I do not know what is and I'm really glad this bass was not a female just a small male it is spawning are going to be spawning see this is a pre spawn right now now we're gonna do since I brought only minimum minimal stuff with me for the final time out we're going to use the lid of this for the fish breading here open the New Orleans whoa seasoning up and we're going to put a bed of it right there looking good and then we are going to take some of my first cast seasoning link in description it is delicious and amazing and nutritious mix that around just a little bit and kind of spread it out I come over here and we dropped the filets oops I almost dropped almost drop the filets right in there folks just like so folks folks I got I got my Bob Reeg on the bobber is gone oh it took off and then it stopped we don't have anything on it I looked over and the bobber over there goes got it got something got something it's foolish is it a crappy visit a grubby oh what the are you kidding me we're close but no cigar it's a bluegill I did not know bluegill would eat minnows like that oh man he ate that minnow good I can see the tail of the minnow you know what folks while we're here let's throw a bluegill into the bass that bass didn't make a ton of meat we're knock him out real quick and there is a hook get my hook back and we got a little gill here to add with the bass there is no such thing as a fish fresher than that so we got the hook back I tied it back on we put a minnow back on and we throw it back out there let's get return to cooking here but we will keep a sharp eye little oil Crisco pure vegetable oil fried fish oh yes oh yes oh yes look at it oh man pokes I like this vantage Blanken keep an eye on a fish keep an eye on the bobber in the background there folks bobber gone Bob we're gone oh it just I looked over oh there goes good got him got him Oh another baths I don't care anymore I would love a crappie but this is fun this is so fun this is where the first times actually used live minnows guys it's today I've you know I've used him a couple times like for saltwater fishing as far as like fresh water go into a tackle store buying all this stuff I needed this is a this is a phat like it's like a humpback bass look at this he's like look at that it's kind of like oddly shaped like it's it's almost like its back got broken or something at one time you guys see that how it's like kind of strangely it's like bent its body its body isn't streamlined and I think should be done folks use the paper towels which is alright just gonna be a little hot here look at that perfect brown and crisp it a man gorgeous filets right there let's add our little bluegill to the mix and let him cook up while we enjoy Oh Oh bobert bobber is being messed with will let our fish cool they're Brazilian maybe we can catch another one you got him nice what are we you got another bluegill since when do blue get maybe blue gills I've always eaten minnows I kind of want my hook back on this guy and yeah we're gonna cook him to put him on the chopping block there before we cast in again we're plenty of light left but before we cast it again on it I want to eat my fish before it gets cold what a day guys this is fun this is fun just having like a frying pan going catching a fish throwing it right in this might be a concept from now on crispy fish see the steam coming out of it there's the Sun Goes Down start near chillier and to have hot fish I don't even need a fork man don't even need a port you can eat it like this and we have coolies hot we have he's hot and we have bluegill folks crispy little blue you [Music] one more minute on everybody this is last as the day actually it's probably not I just say things like that to make myself feel responsible [Music] [Music] last cast of the day a catfish we got the variety that is cool you know guys that's a little small to eat they are I mean if he was probably about 12 inches he'd be perfect but we're gonna let that little guy go turn around there he goes Wow I don't think we could have asked for a better first catch cook and camp in terms of just fishing cooking everyone out what a fantastic time what a memorable day to just like personally for me so much fun I hope you guys enjoyed it as much
