Will IT Run? Junked small Diesel engine.

hey guys how's it going today youtuber a local youtuber stopped by yesterday and he works at a scrapyard and while I was there somebody was unloading I think was on a dump trailer a little diesel engine thing I think it's a Kubota yeah I mean we looked at it all that much so he thought of me and was very nice enough to stop by and drop that off he was Chuck thanks Chuck and I guess it was a generator that the generator probably blew up on they gave up on trying to fix it and dump the whole thing so he grabbed whatever pieces he could from it radiators up there and you know it took a smash when it fell off the the dump trailer so it's got some issues but don't know if Iran's don't know much about it I figured it'd make for a good video see if we can go fire this thing up I haven't played much with diesels but that never stopped me can work on things before so let me get the stuff off the truck we can see it a little bit better get it in the garage get on the table and uh see if we can make this thing run that's a little better I would say we should probably make a couple of four by fours or two by fours to put on them where the motor mounts are so it's not sitting on an oil pan and have it so it's not a greasy football trying to bounce around let me go see where I can scrounge up for wood and attach to is that bent yeah whack that with a hammer - let's see if you can get that really a little bit flatter persuasion in the right spot maybe just sew it when I bolt to it you just want to kick that board out you know you're waiting for me to miss aren't you that's better my son figured out what it is that yeah whether it's Kubota or mr. big he should probably run our number okay I bet you that I'll tell us what's in a - I'm gonna miss your belt on up that there doesn't really mean anything so it's got I want to say this is going to be our throttle one of these two of the throttle and one's gonna be like a shutdown that's probably the shutdown that's the throttle wire for glow plugs not worried about the cooling system we're running it I gonna run long enough to to overheat we're not gonna run it that long if it runs let's go see what we go for oh yeah if anything clean whatever it is I'm gonna go walk that down make sure it's got a decent level on it I do see the drain plugs got a tie wrap over it I don't that's holding the oil in or what the deal is with that should probably the key off the belt that might be an issue oil filters got a good hit in it but we'll keep an eye on that we go and crank it see if it boil pisses out any of the manifolds broke so you're getting on that tank yeah still no name I guess it's probably 10 12 Force maybe it's coming up to right there visit I don't see anything on it let's for the sake of saving it yeah that's why it's clean because there's a show anything let's go up drain what's in it out of it and put some in it let's go see what's hiding underneath their best pages place your way maybe not Oh Oh coming out good sign I don't know if I were to use the piece of tape to block that off hey push that a little farther forward let that thing duel out for a while and I'm gonna go look up that number see if I can figure out what it is and what we're supposed to use for oil so now those numbers really help me I try googling them you really didn't come up so I just did a Google search for Kubota two cylinder diesel and what popped out that looks just like it is that Kubota z4 8 e 2 e 3 B and the ones that they showed look just like it but there were some extra tags on them in different areas I think one was on the alternator and somewhere else that kind of set it not saying that there might not be something underneath some of these plates but we're gonna go with that and it looks like it's between 12 and 1/2 and 13.3 horsepower weighs 117 pounds 3600 rpm is I guess redline and its 29 inches oil is uh just about done doing its thing and it calls for I think it's 10:30 on it I'm just gonna run that in there for now it's not gonna run very long but I want to make sure this on there is something in there so let's get that filled up let's figure out a way to plug that off I'm gonna see if I have a piece of hose that can go over that and we'll just put a bolt in the end of the hose and clean up at a clamp sound good all right so I get that key off cue hey that finally a little rubber cap it was able to fit on that and then it's put a hose clamp around it just for good measure and about two and a half quarts of RO till I got 30 weight in just because what I had I said we probably should just hook a jumper pack to the starter and crank it and listen and see if fluid pisses out anywhere again I'm concerned about that but I do not have a replacement for it it will at some point but again we're just trying to assess and see if we still have a good engine where I put money into or not let me just set up well I get a jumper pack and give her a couple of cranks I got a jumper pack on it let's go give her a quick little cross see if it does anything I think I might want to start [Laughter] what's doing the Puffin the other side so she looks like fuel that's probably the return so it's gonna draw a fuel from here which regular fuel T can the diesel can we'll put it right in there and another one on it returned back to the can it's like a plan yeah grab the fuel tank you want to go put a clear line on there and I notice and what's flapping any worries it'll tighten up throw a wrench on that and make out you could think about it diesel is it doesn't require I mean spark what it does is requires is heat in the combustion chamber that's pretty good heating a combustion camera which is done by compression a compression is much higher on a diesel than it is yes so the little skis the squeeze of the air makes it so that the temperature gets brought up really high and that in turn is what fires lights off the fuel but when it's cold it takes a little bit for it to get going and that's where I has a glow plug on it you know power on that 12 volts and it's got two little heaters that go down inside and actually help heat the fuel up generally like I know my Kubota tractor it's probably I don't know ups about 50 degrees I don't have to glow it anything below 50 degrees I do probably put this a good place for this so that we'll be able to see when we get fuel going through I probably lost a bunch of its prime unfortunately but all right so we gotta get where's our intake again this one down here now that's too sure yeah I do a piece of fuel line for that and shoving the drug to me only downside he still want to call the downsides about a diesel ease you don't you don't shut spark off to kill it you have to shut the fuel off kill it sometimes you can run away specially you know what's doing what like I don't know what does what so I would believe this is gonna be our fuel shut off this one sometimes they have our decompression valve to you what it does it just holds the valves down open and yeah didn't just lose this compression and this can't run from that also I see what looks like this might be a bleeder for it so we're gonna try to do a couple things I'd also like to it's got a a water temp sensor and it's got an oil pressure switch on it too I'm wondering if I should hook a test light up maybe to the oil pressure switch and we crank it over and see if we can get that light to go off and make sure you got oil pressure on it before it goes full gangbusters but I also feel it's gonna take a while for it to suck oil up and through so let's go get it again a fuel line on there and I might want to hook up something to that oil pressure switch I found a piece of a fairly clear we should be able to see if you'll go through it price should cut that down would hey and then as far as again I'm looking for the oil pressure we got one here I'm I'm gonna bet that's in the oil gallery gallery it's close enough to the oil filter and I did see earlier the other one which I think was up higher by the water jacket wherever that was see it I saw it earlier where'd it go it's gone they took it when I wasn't there it is right up there yeah so that's coming off so that would be water temp that one's gonna be oil pressure so I'm gonna take a test light will cut that wire back and then we're gonna go went into the test light and one into ground on the motor somewhere and the light should be lit when it doesn't have oil question as you crank it the light should go out hopefully so I think we're gonna have to step up to probably to a bigger battery because I how slow it was cranking but we have one in the test light on the oil pressure switch the other one goes too high I think I say ground earlier but the switches closed as you build oil pressures it pushes the contacts in to switch apart so let's go give her a quick crank over this is a remote start button and that's just on the starter crossing the the big leg going over and the little tab coming off you cross those two and it makes it crank yes it does let's see if we can get that light to go out and I'm also going to watch I should probably move you guys to a spot to see a little bit better I hope he can see everything see the light and then the two hoses hopefully when I start seeing fuel get drawn up on that probably got to crack that bleeder on the other in them yeah we have to get a better jumper pack and see that what warmed any better oh yeah light went out yeah she'd come back on good so we got a little pressure that's good do you want to go on either side of you will crack that bleeder and see if we can get some fuel to come through yeah sure what's gonna piss out from the other part too is that might have been why somebody cracked that lime loose on top was to do the exactly what we're doing let's I need my starter but you see anything I'm not seeing much of anything huh definitely down in it [Music] you want to try maybe right here instead oh all the way open and I'm not even positive that's what that's for let me try it right here see if I mean this will work for us the throttle is going to make any difference for us she's still pumped no matter what we're thinking that that is run and pull it would be to shut down anywhere that it would suck air would be an issue if it runs out the hose I don't know if it had maybe a pre pump on it or something it's your thoughts but you want to try and do won't forgive fill that hose up maybe with fuel I put some diesel in a bottle let's see kind of fortune I'm it I wonder if we should leave I already is loose take a push right through I don't know if it will right to that point that nipples just a little too big let's go see if I can find another one that's not cut yet yeah grab going off a gear oil follow that helps us I don't know if this would have had maybe a tank that was up higher than it or it might have had another pump debt you know just kind of pushed it to there we're gonna see if we can do our best to make mess looks like a sieve up here there we go thumb over it wonderful what you do I wonder if we should crack yeah I don't know it's gonna push through there or not let's squeeze off the hose at least that's a fighting chance right he's got nothing about diesels to us they have a tendency to shake rattle and roll hopefully it doesn't shake itself right off the floor where is our start button guys coming through the other side I would say that is like idle speed hopefully we get close you believe this down in all the way look we had it and then it went back to air again even go I should probably get something to kind of weight that down in there and go look with a flashlight in a bottle and make sure it in the bottom maybe we'll do that again it seemed like it it at least got flow going up and through it that's a deep fuel off of the bench yeah there might be a a step in the right direction safety third let's go and try that again I think that's what probably happened I think it was just sucking air through the fuel line again so let's prime it again take a second to go get a piece of wood to wedge inside that fuel bottle to hold it alright it's gonna do it again let's go set you guys up on the other side with me go see the actions happening what do you want to be weak it's just setup hold on put some clamps around those from bars the heiress's tried to help it from jumping around too much let's go give her doors open because I have a feeling this is gonna sting [Laughter] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] throttle shut off I had them backwards I worked out pretty good huh let's go fire it again see how she does [Music] [Music] alright that worked out pretty good yeah so this must have been a hook to a solenoid for shutoff and energized and energized and we open and close that cool yeah I'm gonna run a much more than that but that's all I do you really get a good prime oil part is good looks like a good engine so yeah thanks to Chuck for sending it our way no wheel coming out of anywhere do you think guys you think a good use for it would be keep in mind that it's water-cooled and we do have a flinch that bolts to the backside of it that is on the end of the generator housing so we can tap on - oh we got there we cut this stuff off of it and use that for a mounting an output you know whether we put a pulley or something on it I got some ideas you guys want to throw some ideas my way - sister nice little machine are you want to screw around and do some stuff with diesels and give me now is the time all right guys but that I knew would think I'm gonna go shut her down well thank you all for kind of hanging out with me and have a little fun with some kids a rusty junk I can't even say junk but we'll definitely live a game in something else cuz I can get rid of that ma'am huh what do you know what's got away there for sure yeah I guess again she's all for hanging out the fuel shutoff to shut it down
