swish swoosh swoosh a shop whatever you want to call these games you can't argue against the quality of their lure inspirations and designs and one of the few I knew I was due to imbue into you via a hue a skew of knowledge about was the new evolution for ya mask the gala our exclusive Bruno Regis I mean look at this and tell me I can't do a video on it why is this thing the way that it is what is the thing that it is and why is it here in Cowell are those are the questions of the day and I hope to answer them in today's video so let's get going all right so the heck is this thing well maybe we should figure out yeah masks original evolution and EMS for that matter first cough egregious is an egregious coffin of the Egyptian variety ancient Egyptians would bury their pharaohs as mummy is in these sarcophagi which were pretty much just extremely fancy coffins when explorers and grave diggers found them a few millennia later superstitions took over and many believed that these tombs were cursed and the sarcophagus was the most cursed thing of all eventually of course leading to many Hollywood movies about mummies and curses and such eventually these depictions became mainstream and fulfilled pop culture and at this point mummies and sarcophaguses are basically synonymous with things like Halloween and spooky kids television I swear there's probably 30 scooby-doo episodes with the mummy unit and so cough egregious is obviously an Egyptian inspired Pokemon and we can look to Egyptian mythology for its pre evolution - yeah mask is based on the sweat yeah I'm sorry mmm really though that's the word no wonder their society crumbled shoot meaning shadow but in a more spiritual sense shoot our thin black featureless silhouettes a shadow of once former self and then there's also the buff which would be best described as the Egyptians sort of unique concept of a soul and they were depicted as bird-like entities but with human faces combine these two concepts and you get something like the eye mask but also its name in Japanese is literally death mask and a death mask is a mask you would make of someone's face after they died this practice originally started in you guessed it ancient Egypt but the practice would pop up now and again throughout history throughout various cultures here's two dudes doing it in New York 1908 New York huh where you know is based for you where you could find these Pokemon originally coincidence no maybe New York being one of the biggest cities in the world has a load of world-famous museums about history and such and of course they gotta have some Egyptian stuff ancient Egyptian stuff gets transported everywhere which would also explain why a mask is in gaol are based on Great Britain quick history lesson a fun time after good ol Napoleon's visit to Egypt he brought back a load of souvenirs you know the normal things you could pick up in a gift shop mugs shirts like slits artifacts and dead bodies and after bringing them back a lot of people in the Western world were suddenly infatuated with Egypt and its ancient culture leading some of the richer hope to buy mummies for unwrapping parties and making art and architecture inspired by them unwrapping parties I could get a sarcophagus and like hey all of my rich friends come see us unravel this body that's been decaying slowly for over several millennia it's gonna be super fun bring your party whistles what do you know it's dead it's just so gross but anyway the galore Ian yeah masks are flat is not holding on to a mask anymore and it evolves into this so what's up the a mask in this region appears to be holding some stone which completely contradicts altered pokedex a tourism such as each of them carries a mask that used to be its face when it was human sometimes they look at it in crime these masks are incredibly important to them because they remind them of their past lives so why would they in this region carry around some rock instead of their face well perhaps when someone with just the right sort of soul dies the soul turns into a mask and in certain areas they form a mask because it's the norm there but elsewhere they form these stones because it's the norm they're looking at its evolution runa regis we can tell quite clearly that it's based on a rune stone rose stones are giant slabs of rock that Nordic people would carve and leave places a majority of them were made after the death of an important person and sometimes they were engraved with things relating back to past exploits and prominently praised traits of the newly dead and like we see in Runa Regis they often depicted serpents and serpentine dragons more on that later notably these stones were not always pushed right above or even near the graves rather they were put places with plenty of traffic so plenty of passerby can see them and as such these things were put everywhere the Vikings would commonly invade a road stone for every lost Viking which is why you'll of course see loads of them in Scandinavia but also loads Iceland France and of course the United Kingdom especially Scotland plus I mean just look around gal are there's all sorts of Nordic inspiration to be found here as Vikings played a major role in British history so rather than a mask our pint-sized friend walks around with a piece of a rune stone so what's said of carrying around a mask to remind them of their past lives the yeah mask this region are the spirits of Vikings that look at their own stones to remind them of their past lives all of their greatest exploits are inscribed on them after all but if you look closely rather than carrying of masks it's almost stuck in the piece of the rune stone and the Pokedex sheds light on this it's said that this pokemon was formed when an ancient clay tablet was drawn to a vengeful spirit a clay slab with cursed engravings took possession of a yeah mask the slab is said to be absorbing the yeah masks dark power spooky and I like the word cursed there because unlike the old curse of King Tut plenty of room stones actually have references to curses rather than the pop culture thing with coffins and Egypt most of those don't have curses but but a lot of root stones do and the most famous of these rune stones with a curse would have to be in this one I'm not even gonna try to say that name alright I will a trigger Velden a trigger velde trigger nailed let me know how bad I was that's what I get for not looking at pronunciations ahead of time the writing on this particular stone ends with a curse that will be inflicted upon anyone who damages it and if you to damage it you will be turned into a warlock and that doesn't mean you break in and get magical powers as warlock in the olden times didn't mean you or someone with magic abilities but instead you were an outcast of society and not even worthy of being called human not even human you say and the rune stones already all broken up with news Pokemon could it be that someone was damaging a rune stone and the curse took place grabbed onto them and turned them into a yeah mask and it's possible but by the looks of the rest of the decks injury it sounds like these rune stones were made and then a yeah mask or similar such spirit wandered into it drawn to the runes and eventually wound up trapped there notably a few people today even still believe in the power of runes and many folk in bygone eras believed that these inscriptions themselves contained a sort of magic which is why you've seen magical runes and all sorts of media perhaps that magic was trapping these vengeful spirits these yeah masks into the stones but why though just because someone damaged them and it wants to rip their soul from their very being well maybe maybe that's why foreshadowing future videos but now can we talk about it's weird evolution method it's got to take a bunch of damage and then wander under this rock in the dusty Bowl like what well there are a few theories we can develop one relates back to those cursed rune stones this stone that the yeah mask has grown to love being damaged as has started to twist our weeping Pokemon into a monstrous spirit that uses its full shattered rune stone as its armor so now that it's all damaged and hurt it must grow stronger to properly defend its room stone but that would imply that it does wind up being infatuated with the truth so far there's no evidence of so perhaps instead in this particular area of gal are there are more pieces of rune stones all over the place and while the yeah mask is near fainted thus weak it easily gets absorbed into more of them until it becomes entirely trapped becoming a ruler Regis it's just like how damaging a Pokemon before throwing the pokeball increases the chances of them being captured by folk of all it's the same thing but it's being captured in a room stone and I'm definitely leaning more towards this theory as according to Runa Regis is pokedex entry a powerful curse was woven into an ancient painting after absorbing the spirit of a yeah mask the painting began to move so as I'm sure we'll see in the anime or manga at some point the dusty bull has powerful rune stones scattered about it and when they absorb a weakened ya mask they come to life spook town but all of this Nordic spirit stuff could also be a reference to a Nordic spirit creature called the dragger draugar are restless spirits that seek to return to their bodies if they were evil people or were not buried properly so in the situation of this pokemon the rune stone being damaged has disturbed the burial of our pillaging spirit making it restless and angry turning them into what is essentially a drunker and Runa regis has plenty of drugger traits like draugar have physical forms unlike most other ghosts and Runa Regis has a physical form as its main body is made out of the damaged rune stone draugar could also swim through stone and how else would you describe Runa Regis is doing trogir could also cause farm animals to go insane and inflict curses or bring plagues to entire villages and I mean just look at the moves this Pokemon can learn I'm sure you could stretch plenty of those to fit our needs and what's also scary is that they could darken the sky during the day the darkest day now let's take a look at the image on the Runestone the carving is a red serpent circling its body similarly to how your man gonder or the world serpent is depicted on loads of frou stones this is most likely referencing one of the most famous rune stones depicting the battle between Thor and Norman Gandhi in the field of Ragnarok and while that's cool and all what why why is this one the Pokemon well there can be a few reasons Ragnarok is the final battle between the gods and Giants a darkest day if you referring to the sword and shield blood if you can call it that or this can be a parallel to a battle that happens in Egyptian mythology where each day Raw on the Sun God dies and goes through the afterlife on his son arc he slowly gets revived until he is ready to fight off the serpent Apophis mispronouncing that - it is a god of chaos that tries to eat the Sun and when it ends up actually doing it the end of the world is upon us they darkest day so there's Egyptian and Norse parallels here in both of the eye masks evolutions that's neat I mean in Norse mythology there are also two wolves that try to eat the Sun and Moon to and during Ragnarok the end of the world they do give and eat them bringing about a darkest day that's also a thing hmmm-hmmm what is Pokemon doing with all this some cool is gonna happen soon and you'd best subscribe to find out about it or at least with me it's all fun that's all we do here is have fun so what do you think about galore in the MF candrona Regis well let me know down below or just joke around I'm gonna do down there love you all [Music]
