Overnight Winter Camping in Deep Snow

[Music] yeah [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] you packed a little bit of a rolling pulley sled there roll it over plenty of snow deep yeah here my tea hello there ladies and gentlemen how about with my buddy Jake and now we're doing another little adventure out of the woods we're camping at a spot that I have not camped it before one of the first things I'm noticing is there's the wonderful sound of a mine off in that direction Jake stopped up you saw his sled flipping overseas adjusting that I'm not sure how we're gonna sleep tonight supposed to were supposed to get some snow mild temperatures I'm not really sure what we're doing we never know what we're doing but do we know we're doing anyway he's already hung up some delicious food have some fun so let's get to it comedy Oh snow chute aah aah oh this is so deep I'm falling I can't get up [Music] oh we're jeez well definitely doing this sort of thing without snowshoes hey Monty do you think Jake's sleds gonna keep flipping or if we keep helping them out is it gonna work oh it still looks a little roly-poly good there's nothing more fun and dragging a sled through thick brush oh yeah oh yeah [Music] yeah Monty I see where your loyalties lie you little turd oh stand with the leader we've connected with a snowmobile track so I want across the snow bells making it easier to go through because there's there's like three four feet of snow here it's pretty deep I went up to my way past my waist when I fell through before but there's definitely snowmobile tracks someone's going down here we're not sure how far we're going to go but we're gonna keep trucking I'm done with that clear out this is a beautiful design Snow's just turning a slightly pickup Mont you're gonna get ran over by Jake Monte that's not a good idea oh Jake went about four feet of snow got stuck for a minute and climbed his way out he's a survivalist it seems the rolie polie sled has struck again go ahead Monty go ahead under my legs good boy so uh Swamp is Hertz we're going through the swampy area and it's gone much further and longer than we thought and it's pretty thick in here so we're gonna head we can see through the trees there let's see what snow there's some hot seaweed or is it or is it off in the distance I don't know if you can pick that up but there's some white pines back there when we think that's where we're gonna head that direction so get out of this it is deep in here so Jase is checking the depth of the snow and it's about up to his nipples or just Oh snow starting to come down no dude we can get the firewood off the well another all the way out here I just go home and go to the bar yeah we got throw it out there ways that walls gonna build fast up here not too big so much for one night yeah we could make for Quincy Zoar just dig out of shelters still have to use a tarp three dates we just built in Quincy oh no all right so we're digging down there I'm gonna go off two laps here just to dig out a big square it's like five feet deep right here four or five feet more feet at least so whereas digging out were to have the fire pit where's Jake Stanton and we're just gonna keep shoveling out the snow here and make spots that are level we're kind of on a hill because we're up out of the swamp but and we're finding lots of logs so we've got lots of joyful things ahead but Monty here hey Monty might to here needs a little spot to land a little wool blanket action and a sleeping pad what do you think Monty what the hell yeah cool nope nope here are three cool try the one with a dump it there oh here because this this stump here and it seems like a this seems like a nice spot alright we'll make a pile here it's fine you know along this wall so my shit's gonna go like this right there sit there back I'm gonna pile all this back here okay I'm gonna probably just go right here kind of like a little square here drop some tarp over top of it oh damn what that's a big old dead birch oh cool so I guess I'm gonna keep going this way there's one there one there I got the best spot dude perfect ankle-biters yeah great well I guess I'll just keep digging and hope there's no more money go toward your snowshoes yeah you know I'm missing a shovel all the snow in the meaty area Monty you want tree you want a stick I'll go for a dog park do you wanna treat like what is this oh no both destroys shoveling bushcrafting wilderness survival fun oh yeah let's hike till we sweat the shovel till we sweat and then we'll be wet freeze to death well so far that's what we've got got some nice high walls Jake's did a great job over there he's got right to the ground nice flat cut walls over on my side I've got just a pile of mess see crap and there's all sorts of logs underneath so I'm have to cut these all out oh and now that snow starting to come down math he's just chillin he's up on he's up on a good three feet of snow as you can see right there I just had to walk around him he's uh definitely just chillin oh there's definitely a dead birch tree down here so what we're gonna do is I'm gonna tie a my Noah's tarp from that tree to that tree and make a big ol covering because it's supposed to snow five what is it three to five inches during the day today something like that another six tonight start over you want to just switch spots so let's move I don't like this spot anymore I'm over this spot I think I might just lay on top of the snow here because then we don't have to cut the trees yeah let's see yeah I just go like this me and Monty both sleep right there oh yeah that'll be playing your room yeah I'm not it's a hill here anyways we just double check oh yeah this will work dude perfect y'all some help no I mean Oh what you've been doing this whole time because I hear your scream ah dude we got some firewood here it's snowing what the heck it's snowing in winter what the heck is that a maple this that's a nice firewood yeah the best part about hiking though hiking sweating shoveling sweating is grabbing some nice dense maple and just having a saw saw saw your arm off to finish off the day there's no work involved in winter camping it's all play no work yeah we'll see we'll see if I even want to get one there was no echo whatsoever Wow oh that is creepy that's nice thing good you hear that I saw the mine okay so I'm gonna take my tarp here there's a tree right here that's gonna be next to the fire lots of nice snow to get knocked off throughout the night but Monty's over there just getting covered in snow you've been buried relaxing so I had to give him a nice spot just be here oh the rat's nest it strikes again no all right it's gonna get serious here for a minute serious rat's nest think I'm gonna have to go that's pretty good okay now let's tighten it up on that end I've got the beginning to something great here you know I think I need it more needs to come and sway more final answer oh okay Monty don't worry buddy this'll do that'll do Pig that'll do that'll do okay so for this side of the tarp I'm gonna try a little snow acre so I'm gonna tie the rope here in the center and then I'm just gonna pull it taut and stuff this down in the snow and it should keep it hold it let's give it a try the snow's kind of packet is a nice icy layer sure pretty good not too shabby now there's more some water on it yeah so they can't get it out tomorrow oh yeah this is nice all right here Monty right here yeah this is your new spot this is your home hi Monty this is where few months you're gonna be post up for the evening I'm gonna cut a little bit more and pile the snow up on the back well with these walls so high it is it's a little bit of a shallow tarp setup which means I'm just gonna have to whack it off a lot knock it off yeah what do you think we got cozy little den here Monty let's just flatten it out for the old Monty in order for this to be perfect this has to go it's a log you know it's always fun when you're hiking out here and you just you're not sure how things are gonna work out if they're gonna work out then they all start coming together I'm gonna have some snow up on here but now there's a nice birch rotten birch log here I think careful I gotta be real careful doing this under my tarp I don't want to skate along my tarp slice it open Hey look at that I got firewood dude dagnabbit what happened I didn't realize this one was so close this one's even bigger let's see how it feels let's see how it feels you know what that's gonna be a okay well cool there's four ember holes on that not supposed to get this I'm sorry funk I just can't help myself you deserved a little piece well taste like I always say your enjoyment now the woods there's a scale directly of how comfortable your money is your Monte's comfortable having a good time you're comfortable having a good time don't you think isn't that how you rely on Captain Jake hammer Monty come here come here Monty see serious issue going on right now Jake's got the bag of beef jerky lay down and he is just mowing on it and Monte sees one thing smells one thing thinking one thought beef jerky please more Monty if I put this back of my tart but that's not going to matter I'm not gonna get maybe slight gusts and just a dusting it's pretty protective what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna undo this snow anchor and I'm actually gonna try snow anchoring at the tip of the tarp and seeing if that adds a little bit more protection and pulls this all out more but right now it's kind of nice because it's you know the snows it falls down there so the snows can't come through that so if I pull it straight it might come through a little bit more but we'll see I'm gonna test it out we've got plenty of time got early start today so I see oh boy oh boy later there you go now you've got your nice Monty dead Monty what you doing down there Monty you're in a deep hole wasting might see why let's see there you go that's the frosty bunny I know oh well good well just taking a break here I'm all set up I just gotta get together my sleeping gear Jake still working on setting up his tarp doesn't need my help though he just what Jake doesn't walk my help come on Dee bring me that stick bring it here so I was throwing the stick for Monty you know getting him warmed up he's just doing a lot of chillin fortunately this is about as good as it gets for a stick throw and I packed on the this path here I walked out in like five to six times trying to pack it down as much as possible but out of all the times I've snowshoe this has been one of the best times to have snowshoes when I'm when I'm going through this I'm up to my I'm up to here just step right through puncture and hold do you really need snowshoes I'm really fortunate there was a layer of ice from a storm the ice storm that we got earlier this year and that's made it so that when we pack it down it Monty can walk on top of it luckily he's not punching through it too much so that's really fortunate for him otherwise this would be a miserable trip for him but he's been pretty good being able to stay on top of the snow in our paths if he goes first he'll be in trouble but yes Nick Matthew not stick yeah so anywho I'm just gonna keep throwing the stick for my tea for a bit here and then I'm gonna work on collecting some firewood processing that up we're probably gonna fire going a little bit earlier tonight but we want a good amount of wood so that we can have a nice hot fire - chilling but we've got a nice spot all dug out it's pretty nice the snow is starting to come down oh yeah yeah I'm not sure if the camera picks up the hum of that mine but it's about five miles or maybe more somewhere around there that way and what wasn't sure if you could hear it or not but you could definitely hear the hum of it the whole time but that's okay it's hard to scape that we like I said I've never come this way before to go camping well well well we've got ourselves a nice dead maple oh it's a little punky this thing ain't gonna require any accent I can just break it in half that's easy that's that's real punky huh good login yeah you betcha that I know dude that first lean-to I made when I was done for like two days after actually for like a week or two I was my arm was shot my elbow is shot I cut all super-dense no funky maple and then I went and cut like firewood to burn logs all night quite the firewood power good burn that about 45 minutes I'll go get more you're doing a great job Jake you just ki better oh oh there you scared my about it this is kind of what I was envisioning when I drew it the first time out in that field huh the way mine is kind of what I was envisioning when I drew it out that he'll do the drawing in the art art camp is exactly like the drawing I might as well try out my gloves like you a for once I don't usually wear those for shellphone they're great yeah little white tips are frosty all right I'm more than I was before or maybe it's just cause it's getting dark but over there when you're looking through the smoke of the fire it looks real white I should say man that's what I'm thinking like it's drying but like yeah oh there's so much snow no snow is collected on this yeah it's not gonna work what I'm gonna do well that's just like sad these are sad laws they're least the you know the uh the opening isn't just collecting snow yeah okay well I'm gonna throwing some layers and then I say we get preparing dinner almost on my great-great- we can just what we'll do is we'll just scrape just do great things to my insides I don't handle heat very well spiced and what else are we adding in is that all we're adding into the mix yeah and the onions forgot the onions then we got some black beans we're going to mix in there with the taco season when that gets going we've got spinach sour cream salsa queso cheese alright so Ramayana where's that little more huh ooh yeah that looks a little green no little green okay yeah it's gonna be some spicy tacos oh I'm so hungry smells so good I think I need a little bit more butter in here this must have been a lean batch right here there's not a lot of fat yeah I'm actually happy with how this shelter turned out it's nice and cozy in here yeah super cozy I can't even feel the snow I don't even know if it is snow and it's snowing little snow to a hot taco you know oh yeah get that creamy avocado on there lose those pick it up again okay there we go and then we've got some cheese cheese queso cheese healthy portion of that we gotta be careful I can't add too much then we've got a beautiful mixture here oh yeah oh I'm gonna still struggle eating these three that's a lot of stuff here okay I can do it though all right there's still enough for another taco or two okay and then I've got salsa salsa in a bag my keys stay there you're okay my G's getting impatient waiting for me to make my tacos okay well okay and then finally some spinach to go on top it is just a load of tacos again oh okay little bit more all camera eat okay I'm so excited [Applause] Monte this bowl is full for Monty I'm so ready ready Monty all delicious food had a pretty fun day we're just gonna sit by the fire for a while now let it burn down and eventually after sitting here for a good hour so I'm gonna put up put together my sleeping this morning yeah you want bacon I'm really intrigued by the case I think we can eat some bacon this morning I wanted to eat the limited edition bacon I was hoping to share that with you all right I got just the bacon pen right here the taco bacon man unless you want to make it an that actually let's keep this we keep the flavors in that or do you want to keep them here appear sweet there with you yeah because I have a freshly-cleaned pan right here the dirty the dirty one okay I'm okay yeah look here with this - yeah it's just got a little let's do the clean one alright so Jake got we were gonna have breakfast and then we woke up we still we just didn't feel like making breakfast but Jake brought some limited edition bacon sweet barbecue and it's really intrigued both of us so we're just gonna eat bacon for breakfast right here a hole or eat this whole thing yeah we're gonna put this on it um we're gonna eat a whole pound of bacon this is a pound and a half you can't eat this that's what you wanted a pound and a half of a cup you like me that's why you go to those bars bars the meat bars but meat bars that bar you like it's called the meat check the me check that's my home my home is a neat Shack we'll just do half of it so we're like 3/4 pound of bacon here the law yep might be a little bit more than that there you go where's mismatch I think a little bit more an appropriate manner how to do piece by piece damn I just broke my spatula guess I need to do one of these I'm gonna go get a stick spatula oh it smells actually like barbecue chicken barbecue chicken yeah it smells like barbecue chicken or like wings or something I just got a whiff of it as you well bacon bacon bacon bacon bacon bacon bacon if I can't mail you some quail eggs are dude I don't pay you back for spicy quail eggs you mean around the fire heads up okay you're double you're double snow anchor is holding pretty dang good here are Bacon's about done oh yeah with all that grease oh yeah all right ha ha it wasn't boiling the first time sweet barbecue bacon is it everything they talked about Wow it tastes exactly like normal bacon there's no barbecue flavor whatsoever well the barbie may be the slightest hint of barbecue can we taste the barbecue yeah it's hinty I don't think it's very strong though it's not as strong as a thousand be blows it up yeah so you're gonna give me some no later I see heating the bacon but don't see you sharing the bacon bacon and coffee it's so good it makes me want some more I just don't even know why I have that song stuck in my head dd-do the Italian Christmas donkey big idiot yeah it's a song I just don't know how it popped up in the old brain Factory no oh no what I've lost my titanium spork you're he's never sour cream last night I know what happened it got set in the snow and it's somewhere under all this snow probably stepped on like ten times will see if I can locate it you digging for that spork yeah look over here no no it's gone yay all right it's gone dang it screw it oh hey I kicked it up hey victory I found it I ended up kicking it up sweet we found spark see dude again no spark left behind it's the name of the game I'm an animal lover yeah I love the way they paid I also love the way they taste follow you here huh yeah this is a pretty sweet campsite I like this got ourselves a nice pretty little campus I would think my teeth wait think wait think join lick Buffy okay come on set did excuse me Monty excuse me excuse me I said excuse me all righty ladies and gentlemen I'm all packed up this is a nice
