praise the lord my brothers and sisters what a blessing it is to be in the house of the lord again to share the word of god with you i'm excited about what god is doing i don't know about you but we serve an awesome god a powerful god a god that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we may ever ask or think according to the power that works in us so let's tap into that power today let's tap into that power that god has placed on the inside of us because he told us greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world father we bless and thank you on this evening as you give us this opportunity to delve into your word that you might bless us in our inward parts i pray in the name of jesus that you would help us to gain an understanding of your word to understand the power of the seed of the word of god and how the kingdom of god will grow not only in us but in this world that we live in in our communities in our home and throughout the diaspora god we thank you we love you we adore you pray that you would hide self behind the cross don't allow him to be seen or heard but allow the word of god to be taught tonight with power boldness and conviction to the end that our lives may be better and that we may serve your eternal kingdom purpose we ask all of these blessings prayers and supplications and the only name that matters in jesus name amen well my brothers and sisters we're about to finish uh mark chapter number four we got about three or four more verses to finish uh this chapter out we've been in the book of mark for a few months now and i'm grateful to god that he's allowed us to get through this chapter uh we've learned some interesting things as we've gone through it we found out last week how the kingdom of god grows it starts off small like a mustard seed but once that seed catches root into the ground especially good ground it blossoms it spreads and it becomes productive uh in the ground that it was planted in and so we know that the word of god is planted in good ground and we know that it always bears good fruit the last part of this lesson it deals with jesus calm in the storm and i'll read these verses for you in your hearing and the same day when the even was come he said unto them let us pass over to the other side he's talking to his disciples and when they had set he had sent away the multitude they took him even as he was in the ship and there were also with him other little ships and there arose a great storm of wind and the waves beat into the ship so that it was now full and he was in the hinder part of the ship asleep on a pillow and they awake him and say unto him master carries thou not that we perish and he arose and rebuked the wind and said unto the sea peace be still and the wind ceased and there was a great calm and he said unto them why are ye so fearful how is it that you have no faith my brothers and sisters when we look at this particular text now this evening we look at first of all jesus says unto them the same day when the evening had come he said to them let us pass over to the other side and this is so profound and prophetic what jesus is saying here even before they take the journey to the other side jesus gives them the conclusion as to what is going to happen notice what he says let us go to the other side he is speaking prophetically that we are going to make it to the other side of the sea and so as they get into the ship and they head out sailing they forget the promise that god has made through jesus to them think about this this is a promise and we are not forget the promise sometimes we catch amnesia to the word of god into the things that god has said to us whenever a word is released from the mouth of god in this case jesus releases a word and he says to the disciples let us go over to the other side jesus is so confident in the words that he speak that he lays down in the ship and goes to sleep and that my brothers and sisters should have been consoling to the disciples as jesus crawls into the boat with them and he gives them a word and he lays down and go to sleep i think there's something we need to really understand before we make any kind of decision before we choose any mate be before we choose a job or anything we need to make sure that we have a word from god on our situation and and jesus gives them a word concerning their destiny or their destination as to where they are going god has a word for our destiny god has a word for your destination he always gives us a word for where we are going now here's the rub y'all and in the midst of our confession and completing what god has said about our lives it does not mean that we won't run into chaos so when god speaks a word to us and we confess that word believe that word and believe that god is going to complete that word it does not mean that you will not run into a challenge in your life there are many of us who live for christ and we think that our life is going to be without challenge but jesus says to the guys amen up front he says let's go over to the other side there is no way in the world you can go under when jesus has said you're going over and a lot of time i know that there are situations that arise in our life that seem like it's going to take us under but we have to remember the promise of the word of god have you caught amnesia to the word of god and the promises of god and what god has said to you you need to hold on to the promise of the word of god and one thing we know about the word of god god's commandment god's promises they are yes and they are a man now notice he said when evening has come lord jesus help us every one of us will experience an even in season in our life in other words you can expect some moments where things are going to be dark you can expect some season in your life when it seems like everything is going in your direction all of us something certain something pops up in your life why is it that we don't look at life from two sides there are good sides of life and there's a bad side of life there are some times in life when you can do everything right amen and some things would just turn out wrong but it does not mean that you will make it to your this your destination it doesn't mean that you won't make it to where god has promised for you to be so we need to understand you should expect the unexpected sometime in your life expect some dark season to show up in your life expect some storm to show up when there's a calm in your life expect some things to go awry expect the bottom to fall out of your life when everything seem like is going right in your life storms will show up evening will show up in your life even in relationship evening season shows up in your life that's why you got to hold on to the promise of the word of god can i tell y'all something is interesting in this text that even while jesus told them let us go over to the other side they were not the only one in the sea of galilee they were not the only one who were in a storm there were other little ships going through the same thing that they were encountering and we sometimes think it's only us it's only me i'm the only one that's having problem i'm the only one that's going through a storm in my life but the bible says in this verse number 35 he said unto them amen let's pass over to the other side and look at verse number 36 and when he has sent away the multitude they took him even as he was in the ship jesus didn't take time to collect anything to grab a hold to anything he got immediately into the ship and there were also with him other little ships so notice not only are the disciples in a ship and or in a storm but there are others going through what you're going through sometime i discovered in my life you need to bump into some people that are experiencing some of the turbulence that you are experiencing and when you meet somebody who's going through the exact same thing that you are going through all of you all you have to do is tell them that now i know i'm not in this all alone i'm not by myself and because i'm not by myself i can relate to what it is that you're going through there are some of us we think that when we get saved that we are not going to encounter challenges in our life but i beg to differ with you this evening as a matter of fact the deeper your relationship is with god the more you are going to be challenged in this life and what challenges do to us it stretches us to a place where we've never been stretched before not only does it stretches us but it helps us a man to stretch us in our faith and we become stronger in our faith to trust god in areas in our lives where we have some deficiencies and sometimes god needs to put us in a situation where you sometimes don't know what to do and can i remind y'all this evening that storms are dangerous storms are disruptive and sometimes they are difficult to deal with and when it's too tough for you to deal with it that's when you've got to turn to jesus and i love this story this evening because the disciples received a word from the lord before they got on the sea jesus told them hey guys let's go over to the other side look at the word look at the promise that they receive from the lord jesus had already released this word amen for them so even though they were in the evening season of life when the storm out of nowhere even in the season of life life has two sides so here's what i would say to you about that never conclude your life based on the side that you are going through right now based on the side that you're in right now what am i saying uh what what i'm really saying to you is maybe where you are right now is uncomfortable maybe where you are right now is undesirable maybe where you are right now makes you feel like you are not doing what god wants you to be do and and you're not where god wants you to be but i'm here to let you know that's just one side of life you can't conclude your life based on where you are right now because where you are right now is simply a test and it will be a testimony for where god will take you in your future just remember god has released a word for your life and you need to know that even why abraham abraham stumbled not at the promise of god through unbelief the bible says abraham considered not his own body oh you have to consider not where you are and believe that god will use that negative situation to bring about a positive in your life jesus released his word y'all before they began their destiny or to that destination he released the word and all they had to hang on to was hey jesus said we're going to get to the other side what are we worried about jesus said lo i'm with you always even unto the end of the world be of good courage we have no reason to be afraid before you enter any situation in your life look for a word on that situation ask god to give you a word on that situation that you are going through now look at the text we are reading in verse 35 he said let's go over to the other side jesus sent the multitude away that he had been teaching concerning the kingdom and he got into the boat as he was and there were also with him other leadership look at verse number 37 here's the here's the thing even as jesus has spoken prophetically here's what happens there arose a great storm of wind and the waves beat into the ship so that it was now full i told you sometimes between the confession and the conclusion of the completion of what the lord has spoken there arises chaos so what do we do when god has spoken the word and you are headed in the direction where god tells you to go but there's chaos in the midst of all of that what do you do you confess what god said is true you know your destination you know where god says you are headed you know what god promises but in the midst of all of that arises chaos what do you do i told you what you do you got to hold on to the word of god you got to hold on to god's promise and what god has said the promises of god they are sure if god has said it you can trust it and so they are in the midst of the will of god jesus is with them in the boat and this is what we have to understand that jesus knows our challenges he knows what we're going through why because he's with us and the disciples had jesus on the ship but yet they were afraid they were fearful but jesus was in the boat it wasn't like when they saw him walking on the sea but he was actually in the ship with them jesus is so comfortable that he takes a nap the bible says he's sleeping he's in the boat verse number 37 there rose of great stone the waves beat into the ship so that it was full if the ship was full and jesus was in it how is it that he sleeps and the boat is full how is it that he sleeps and water is in the boat he sleeps because where he comes from there are no storms and storms do not affect him even though the ship is full and sometimes your life can be full of chaos and full of problems but if you are full of the holy ghost greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world and all of these things that are coming against you you have nothing else to do but to look to the word of god and his promises now look watch this the boat is full okay and there's so much intensity in what's going on the wind is bolsterous the wind is blowing the wind is howling but jesus never wakes up you know why because he's in complete control of the situation this when this storm is not in control and jesus knows that that is why he can sleep one of the reason why we can't rest is because we want to control our own lives our own destiny our own situation but there are some things that brothers and sisters that we just cannot control we have to wake jesus up we have to involve jesus in our life situation what you notice in the text is that jesus does not break into the situation they have to invite him into the situation and see we expect god to just break into our lives but all jesus is doing is waiting on you to ask him for him and so here it is notice now what these disciples said to jesus i want you to listen at what these brothers said who had been walking with jesus who had watched him work miracles watch what they say the bible says he was in the hindu part of the ship asleep on a pillar and they awake him and they say unto him master cares not that we perish they didn't say jesus the boat is filling up with water we need to do something they asked jesus you don't care what's going what's about to happen to us do you not care do you not see what's happening they should have said jesus the boat is full of filling up with water we don't know what to do they didn't ask that question they just said jesus you don't care if we perish do you not care brothers and sisters yes he cares yes he cares but where's your faith that's the issue do you not care that we about to perish now think about this these are seasoned fishermen but this was not your ordinary run-of-the-mill kind of storm this was a different kind of storm as a fisherman they had not seen this kind of storm before and so it it rattled them to the point that they didn't know what to do and they figured jesus you don't care that we perish now watch this jesus arose rose from his sleep why because he had some disciples who had panicked and they were afraid they were threatened that this was about to destroy them and it seemed like jesus was unconcerned but i'm here to let you know jesus was not unconcerned but he was aware of what was going on he was fully aware now their storm was a physical storm they were looking at a physical storm but storms comes in other forms what about the spiritual storms in our lives what about those kind of storms think about some of the storms that you've encountered in your life some of the issues that you have faced that you wondered how you were gonna get through that storm and somehow some way god worked it out i can testify i've been in some storms in my life and i didn't know how i was going to make it out but one thing i do know that jesus is the captain of my life and if you cannot trust him to be the captain of your life how do you expect to make it through a storm and so they were afraid the situation that causes you the greatest anxiety in your life sometimes your emotion get the best of you sometimes you start to think with your head and not with your heart and trust in god and then you lose control and you forget the promises of god so here we are there wake him master do you not care that we perish jesus arose and he rebuked wind and he said to the sea jesus had a conversation with the wind had a conversation with the sea and he said to the wind and to the sea three words peace be still wow what a powerful word peace be still these guys had lost their peace these guys had lost their faith and they had panicked and jesus spoke three little words peace be still told the wind to stop howling told the sea to calm down if jesus could speak to the wind and speak to the sea and they obey him we have to have the utmost confidence in this jesus that we serve brothers and sisters these are examples to us when we contrast the preaching of the gospel in america and the gospel that jesus taught and preached what he says to us is found in psalm 46 and 10 be still and know that i'm god when you know god for yourself even when the wind is howling in your life and your boat or your life is filling up with water jesus speaks to it and he says peace be still he has already spoken to that situation that you're going through you just got to have faith while you go through it so the wind and the sea came under submission from three words peace be still hush quieting down and sometimes we have to get quiet so that we can hear what god is saying even when the storm is going on in your life you have two options my brothers and sisters you can you can worry and assume that jesus does not care or watch this you can resist that fear that comes in your life and trust god to help you make it through the storms of life that you are going through and you simply do that by putting your trust in him proverbs 3 5 and 6 we love to quote this verse trust in the lord with all of your heart lean not to your own understanding in all of our ways we're supposed to acknowledge him and he will direct our path and when we trust god that simply means we can rely on him we take our hands off of that situation these were experienced sailors but they could not navigate through this storm even though they were experienced fishermen and there are some of us in the body of christ we are experienced christian but there are some something that arise in our lives that we simply cannot handle it's too much for us and we have to involve jesus in what we're going in going through church listen to me even in church when we don't know what to do we have to come together and involve the lord jesus christ even in our decision-making in the church when we make decision even though we have people we select to lead in the church we still need to confer with god and ask god to give us a word on these situations that we are facing because you you say well we've done this before we've been here before but there's some time some things arise that we just can't handle and we have to ask god to give us a word on that situation he released that word before they got going sure did jesus even after he had taught these disciples and got into this boat with the disciples they hit it to their destination they hit it across the lake uh somebody said it was only eight uh about the lake was about 13 miles long and and about eight miles wide it don't matter uh and you might be familiar with something but what do you do when the storms of life arise what do you do you do you wake jesus up and you keep doing what you've been doing so we need to understand that great storms will arise in our lives they will even as we are going in the right direction even as we are doing the will of god and sometimes we say to us of god i'm doing all i know how to do for you i'm i'm walking in your will i'm trusting your word i'm doing what you told me to do but i'm still facing challenges that's part of life that's a part of it jesus didn't argue with the wind he simply spoke to the wind you know it's amazing that storms can happen in the natural children can be a asleep but a mother can hear these storms and they'll a mother will wake up and tend to a child or just be up because they can hear the howling of the wind because they feel a sense of protecting their children do you think for one minute and while jesus was asleep on that ship that he did not care about his disciples and i raised the question tonight whatever it is you're going through do you think that jesus does not care about your situation and what you're going through i submit to you he does care this is what he said to them why are you so fearful i think that's a good question to end with what is it that you're afraid of tonight why are you so fearful why is it is it that you have no faith why when you look at all the things that the lord has done for you why is it that you have no faith think about all the stuff that the lord has done for you he brought you through this he brought you through that this is just another little bump in the road what you're facing if you trusted god to get you through one situation why can't you trust them to get you through another situation is it because you say this one is bigger than the last one was it doesn't matter how big it is we have a god that is so big and so powerful that he can handle any storm that happens in your life if it seems like you're treading water in your life if it seems like jesus is nowhere around just trust his word just trust what he has said in his word and what i know is that the bible says now faith is the substance of things hoped for and it's the evidence of things not seen you need faith right now not tomorrow not next week but you need it now in the situation that you're in and what faith is saying to you is just take your hands off of it trust god to work this situation out well the disciples didn't have their hands on it because it was out of control in the first place they couldn't handle it but they woke jesus up and the only thing you need to wake him up is have faith trust him you remember the woman with the issue of blood she never physically touched jesus never but what she did was she touched the hem of his garment and jesus knows when faith is near him because the bible said virtue power left his body why because he could sense that the woman that touched his garment she touched it out of faith because this is what she said if i could but touch the hem of his garment i know that i would be made whole she made a bold confession that if i could just touch not him but to him of his garment because she realized that the garment was hanging on the anointed one and if the anointed one was in that robe in that garment if i can touch it i can get my healing and if you want to touch god tonight you touch him through your faith you touch him through believing him not what the doctor says not what the world says but what jesus has said in his word and we can trust him because he can be trusted there are two sides to life y'all you can always have an evening you wanna have a night you're gonna have some good days you'll have some bad days but you got to trust him whatever season of life you're in whatever moment you're in in your life it requires faith you'll have some evening storms you have some morning storm the only thing you got to do is trust god well i pray that this message helps somebody who might be going through the evening part of life where some things have fallen apart when you thought they should be coming together i submit to you tonight trust god even in the evening season of your life maybe there's somebody here today who's listening going through a storm in that season of life when things are falling apart but i submit all you got to do is trust jesus confess this with me tonight father i believe that jesus died for my sin and i also believe that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures come into my heart come into my life be my lord and be my god that simple prayer if you confess it believe him by faith you can be saved tonight confess your sin the lord will forgive you for them and he will occupy the throne of your life and he will help you through every season every storm every moment that is difficult if your faith is intact regardless to the storm you can make it through let me encourage you to read joshua chapter number five for your reading i would i encourage you to read that until we come back together let me give this announcement street we want you to frequent church we want you to be in bible study we have been out of church too long and i want to encourage you to get back in church get your relationship back intact with god admit i've been out a long time and i've gotten lazy and it's hard for me to even get myself together to come to church i understand that i'm just encouraging you to come home back come on back and get your tank feel so that you can be ready to run on and i trust god that he will continue to bless you and your family well god bless you thank you for giving me this opportunity to share the word of god with you father we thank you we bless you we praise you we pray that you will continue to keep your hand of mercy upon us we pray now and as um we sign off for today but not forever god we pray that you would just bless this church bless those who are listening some of us god we need you in a special way some of us are having family tragedies and all kinds of things going on but we are trusting you the god that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we may ever ask or think according to the power that works in us we ask all of this in jesus name man
