I Tried Japan’s Secret British Town Ft.@Abroad in Japan

damn kyoto is just beautiful it's mysterious it's profound it's stunning in every single way and i can't wait to explore it with you guys but unfortunately i don't think i can do it alone and i think right over there there's someone who can help me do it so let's go and see him and say hi and maybe he can show me around this wonderful place that is kyoto let's go afternoon sea dog welcome to kyoto trying to kill me last time we filmed together it's a little bit of friday a little bit of fun my doctor probably gave me a ring after that i was like what the are you doing what about the sake how'd that go down it was awful i've never had such bodily pain i'm gonna make up for it today i'm gonna take you on a whirlwind tour of japan's most magnificent city to the number one site in all of kyoto what is it um yes camera zadara surely this is fantastic this is on all the pamphlets all the movies you see this about kyoto bigger than that sorry about the golden pavilion maybe think bigger i saw there's a bamboo forest that you could cycle through a couple of trees in a forest sink wales why do i think that's because we're going to go to a welsh town in the mountains of kyoto why no no because getting the honda fit the trail is expensive here why are we going there come on and unfortunately chris did have the keys to the car so i had no choice but to get in the car with him and we were going to dreamton which is a welsh slash british inspired town in the middle of the mountains in kyoto but on the way there we thought why not check out some reviews so not not a promising star i'm seeing 3.5 stars yeah usually if it's below a four in japan that's a bit of a red flag weird this person gave two stars and they're called john in japan john in japan watch out chris they're coming for the break competition uh weird it is a bit like a film set look but don't touch or go inside had to wait in a long queue outside not allowed in until you were called for your cafe sitting no gluten free available no gluten free turn this car around but the cream supplied more like american cream cheese weird oh cream cheese on a scone that's a fake worse than death so this person gave three stars they said i visited after hearing the impressions of my acquaintance i imagined a so-called paradise but i was betrayed in a good way i was betrayed in a good way i would like to recommend it to young couples fantastic that's ours but then the price is a bit too high and a car is required a dilemma so this is a long japanese review two stars i went to lunch with great expectation but even though i ordered tea with tea at the order tea with tea no matter how long i waited after meals when i asked the shop staff the order did not go through with two i heard take a shot every time you hear the word i heard that my husband had tea at the time of ordering but the shops have said it had tea why there's so much tea i wanted to turn the shabu dai upside down chabudai is like table arcade game choice flipped the table so they wanted to flip the table it was so bad starting to get a bit worried now dream tonight i heard great things about dreamton from one person is there a way to sort our fantastic lowest rating oh god this is where we get in the scathing reviews toilet is in the back of the store to use it you have to shop for one thousand yen or more of the store to get it really ten dollars just to use the toilet it's a bit worried mrs jones would rather die than charge me to use her toilet i'll tell you that i was not hungry and the price was high so i gave up entering it some people say they went and enjoyed even the atmosphere alone never go lowest we're about 15 minutes away now and we've been told in every review don't go turn around there's no toilets you have to pay i've heard nothing of value there's nothing good so far stories of betrayal there's even there's even worse ones a place that is not worth going to laugh i think they're implying that it's not even worth going to laugh at oh my oh my god someone's giving an essay as to why this is appalling it's not enough for a japanese person to just leave a route they want it to actively fail they'll like go out of business there's a lot of complaints about waiting it's apparently very expensive you apparently have to spend at least ten dollars to use a toilet which i'm not gonna lie that's kind of take the piss and i looked at the fish and chips how much do you think the fish and chips are i've never paid more than a tenner for the fanciest fish and chips get ready to play two tennis because it's uh it was 1980 no i don't really know what to expect why do you think they call it dreamton do you think dreams are made there clearly dreams this is where dreams go to die although the reviews for dreamton weren't that flattering when we arrived we were quite pleasantly surprised dreamtown village point oak oh they've got a pub sign though that's a genuine pub sign there there's people here it's quite busy it seems like there were many other customers who were there to enjoy the magical wonder of dreamton through just arrived in dreamton and it does look quite weird really say the only way it could be more like the uk if it's raining so you've got great weather today which isn't isn't it all faithful to the uk actually looks pretty good and so me and chris thought we'd have a quick look around before going into the main section what is that what do you mean what is that it's this bicycle shared i don't know it feels like imagine if someone in front like another country you don't know just copied your home but like not 100 accurate it just feels weird you know what i mean so the main village itself based off the reviews is behind that black gate over there so i guess we're going to go in and order some fish and chips chris you excited i'm very excited indeed it's a shop of something oh there's shortbread stilton crackers walker's shortbread and vinegar british culture summarized chris brought five packs looks like a room where you play russian roulette [Music] you shoot yourself in the head yeah it's tiny you can have dreamton village wedding do you want a wedding here chris oh yeah this is where i'd get married that's actually pretty cool you're definitely gonna get married here on it no but that's kind of classy look at all those dresses it actually looks really well care very classical i can see why someone would want that not me but i could see why it's really white really well kept as well and after thoroughly judging the wedding dresses we went over to the local pub mary's past that's how you know it's british they've got the mars bar that's pretty that's pretty on point my local pub in wales is like this kind of homeless i'd say it looks kind of like this a little bigger it's really quite nice yeah the wood is aged pretty nicely as well because this is kind of better than hub isn't it yeah of course it is because you know you can you can drink with your mates in here but outside the pub there was something slightly disturbing this is great the public's great what is that that is not what what is that don't think i'd ever go into a pub if this was outside this is like little chef did they get the wrong thing how do you explain little chef to non-british viewers little chef is like mainly a kind of a motorway stop or a highway stop where you could get all the food in the microwave basically basically breakfast in a microwave salmonella and chips around it's pretty awful and the mascot kind of looks like this but you would see this at like tourist traps in like italy or stuff you know what i mean yeah yeah this is i don't know what it's doing here because everything else looks really good look at that it's a low point in an otherwise flawless mini pub obviously they have the ice cream sign which uh every british pub needs i guess oh my god the fish and chips is mine it's great it's gone up in price it's going up since you can see they've texted it the cheeky that's 22 dollars now for fish and chips this is gonna be the best fish and chips you've ever had i swear if the fish and chips aren't knighted in front of me for that price then i don't think it's worth it so you feel they've got a pretty uh some pretty convincing artwork over there that captures the quality of the fish and chips well they welcome dogs as well that's pretty cool actually nice are we going inside now and thus we journeyed on into dreamton kyoto's premier welsh town but you actually can't enter dreamton unless you order some food and i'm pretty sure you can guess what we ordered and thus we had to wait 20 minutes until our fish and chips were ready in the meantime we decided to see what dreamton had to offer the pub is called pond oak and pond means bridge in welsh i need to get some value out of my welsh knowledge so i'm telling you that here even though it has no relevance to the video whoa it's pretty big wow oh so you can buy the beers and stuff we've got guinness golden prize don't remember that one in the uk it's a fake beer it's pretty cool i love the little attention to detail how do they build it that's what i'm curious like did they have to like ship in like some welsh buildings welsh material welsh material i was totally ready to like clown on everything and just be like but it's actually pretty good home-cooked food cask ales just in case you want to be on display for the red light district with fish and chips amsterdam your heart out right this is this is where people are going to be on display what is king blood is he some sort of welsh no i don't know who that is turns out king lord is the celtic god who founded london according to this book cover why is there a bicycle just hanging off the wall up there oh yeah why is there we started to notice that most things had price tags on them that's 250 dollars that dress my mum could make that that's pretty cool though you can get the original tattley titley tin can that's like the old 5 280 yen about 52 is that like a real brick building is the other bricks real get there that welsh touch that's real that is i what i don't know what i expect like styrofoam building that can you push it to be fair most japanese buildings like that are fake right although we've come here we're just testing the structural integrity of drinking just surveys yeah well i live didn't look like this but if you drove like an hour into wales it would start to look like this and there's a lot of old villages that were kept to look like this cute little lake there as well you can eat by it's a shame i feel like the the road in like the whatever that plan there's a massive like factory over there that kind of ruins the atmosphere a little bit takes you out of the whole welsh vibe this is 600 for that table you're kidding me this is higher than the gdp of wales this has been sold who's buying this people that love whales no one no one this is three hundred dollars a steal what even is this must be import costs surely like where where is this upscale price coming from i've seen this as so many pubs you've seen this before yeah i think i realized what's going on here i think someone bought one too many antiques they're like how do i get rid of all this to build a town they have to build a town to sell all this stuff this is five hundred dollars i mean too far i think this might actually be worth that what's this should we open it i think it opened is it where like a dog that's like ash isn't it for a fire there's another big pub over there though let's look at that you know what i saw i saw i saw chris eyeing it up earlier he definitely wanted to have a cheeky go on it i had to tell him to stop it's the whole reason i came here you know what's sad is that this probably looks like the most interesting building out of all the buildings but there's probably like an actual pub in here we can't go in turns out that you can actually stay in the dreamton hotel at least that's what booking.com tells me i thought it said dreamt and savage at first you know i went to the smallest house in the uk which is in conway in wales it's actually yeah and um it literally just looks like a tokyo apartment so it's really not that impressive now but back then it was like whoa that was crazy flew in there flunips what's that i have no idea nip the flu before the flu nips you is that what it says yeah that's what it says the best antiques are old friends that's why i call chris an auntie find your own way back to kyoto asked him it is quite strange seeing old products from your country on the other side of the world being shown in a really bizarre way it's kind of surreal i can't really explain it this is the most expensive toilet in japan 1 000 yen entry fee is that what the video is going to be titled japan's most expensive toyota so i'll go in and test it out there's someone in there actually don't walk in i must say the one thing it's got going for it over the one i went to with joey across japan is this one has food that one didn't have any food right yeah for whatever reason there was nothing we had like the easiest food to you know duplicate put it in the deep fryer job done but like there was nothing this is actually better than i thought it would be in terms of like the buildings the attention to detail like imagine a few like you've got a hangover or something you woke up one morning and you just looked at that and you're like oh back in whales in it but it looks great i actually quite like it conor's going in is it worth a thousand yen no this is the toilet when you come in it's uh yeah actually looks quite nice i will now enjoy my poop i should probably turn off the mic shouldn't i oh crap come on connor after i finished relieving myself we headed to the restaurant to collect our fish and chips and inside was a really cute decor what do you think of this this little restaurant it's pretty cute isn't it it's quite quiet it's pretty cozy this feels very like rural countryside welsh it's pretty spot on it looks like a miniature aladdin sword yeah a little little sword from aladdin and here is the 2 200 yen fish and chips there's a lot of pepper on there actually not a bad chip i must say i've never seen fish and chips come with a baguette in my life garlic bread oh that sounds pretty good vinegar actually do you you're not a fan of vinegar are you no it's all yours mate fish tastes kind of weak like anemic you know a knee big fish yeah kind of overall the chips are pretty good the vinegar helped with the flavor the fish itself was a little over battered and not that great but the mushy peas were oh god they were not good i never really liked mushy peas when i was growing up but i swear they didn't taste like this i must say though the tea was cracking but who cares what i think we need to find out what chris thinks of the fish and chips here we go making my incision you can tell first off when you sink the knife in the bat is a bit too like thick bit of ketchup this is probably the most serious i've ever seen chris review something it's honestly like uh like a cheap doughnut basher gordon ramsay over here tastes like a donut sadly chris wasn't impressed by the fish and chips either but hopefully the garlic bread will help this might make up for it make the first incision with my mouth it's a four it's a bit too cardboardy highlight so far has been the chips and the atmosphere and the little dog makes up for it makes up for the 22 dollars cigar then chips out of 10. like a seven yeah seven the fish and the tea nine wow that's pretty good that is really good actually i really do wish that we went for afternoon tea instead of the fish and chips because the afternoon tea looked really good and you could have it outside next to the lake and that would have been nice i'm trying to be picky for youtube i'm trying to actually give like if i was being serious but me personally i'll eat whatever's put in front of me so you know i look forward to testing that that hypothesis later on down the line i don't know yes they have a bunch of yorkshire tea down there as well you can't see it but it's good stuff but after enjoying our moderately good meal it was time for us to leave dreamton and give our final thoughts all right well we've enjoyed a mediocre fish and chips and we've seen all that drinktone has to offer and now i guess time to go um yeah i mean it's a bit you sad to leave your homeland once again it's quite nice really uh i think it would come here on like a nice date you know and just be like oh yeah you're saying this isn't a nice date not with you chris how dare you i imagined it i you know i took a japanese girl i could say hey look at yeah i know that fresh chocolate ate it born in it i honestly thought based on the reviews and everything i saw online that it was betrayal there was a betrayal of british culture but it's quite nice really and i mean you can't argue that it's not faithful i mean all of this is really well done and it's clear that somebody clearly loves our architecture in the uk not sure why but they do i love our architecture so you can go yourself i'd give an abroad japan rating of six out of ten for dreamton what would you give four point five four point five that's a bit harsh is it i'm trying to be i'm trying to i'm trying to set a bar here i think that's a little harsh for me i was still reeling over the fish and chips i think i'd actually give it a six as well it's actually pretty cool if you're in kyoto you may as well check it out i'm gonna miss this place this was fun actually i think in many ways i prefer it to the one i went to in joey why because there's fish and chips and it was it wasn't the best fish and chips but it's fish and chips numbers chris chris's bar for what's good is is it deep fried if it's deep fried it's a good thing you get i'm staying here yeah i see you i'm driving home i'm having another portion of fish and chips this is chris broad's channel now well i must say chris thank you so much for showing me kyoto when you invited me i thought we were going to be seeing all the famous tourist spots right no who needs a 500 year old pagoda when you've got dream tent maybe it's 500 square meters of slightly disappointment that's fine it's fine you know i'm clowning on it i'm not really looking forward to the next weird thing that we end up doing well you've got keo mizudera temple you've got king kakuji and then you've got dreamton the three key sites when is it gonna become the ninth wonder of the world after this video funnily enough though i did get another email the other day about a
