the game font challenge yes it's here at last i ask you to recognize games and identify them only from their branding and typography now won't that be a treat um few comments uh here saying that you're kind of echoey jane is there anything you're not muted in anything might be causing an echo for example discord oh discord might be the thing i am fully muted my microphone is a little bit echoey today but uh maybe that's it okay well mike you can hear how the stream sounds let me know how i sound i think it might just be that i'm using a different kind of microphone to my candy so i'm helvetica documentary i thought it was great um so yeah it was a documentary about helvetica yeah it's famous at one awards and stuff so there you go andy you intimidated that sounds like all the training you need to absolutely smash this game font class yeah i know i know all the fonts okay tell me uh times new roman that's the classic yeah yeah owns new roman italics roman bold four times new yeah times new greek times new vikings how do you feel about windings love win i love a little bit of chaos in my fonts uh garrett garamond's that's a font sounds like a biscuit yes delicious biscuit korean new that's the one that looks like a typewriter yeah career old probably contemporary yeah okay all right well we've got 22 items in today's quiz so let's just rolling what jokerman say it in sebastian if you're getting sebastian's like fake fake accent then yeah sure i think there was a documentary about ariel as well maybe i don't know there's been a lot of fonts documentaries and i have seen more than how is there more than one i don't know but helvetica 2007 was a font entirely hour and 20 about a single font and how popular it is and how if once you spot it you spot it everywhere because it's used in so many places like new york subways and you know shop signs and all that kind of stuff so i like um helvetica helvetica's a good font isn't you like a trendy isn't that like it didn't that become basically a hipster font wasn't it the american apparel font probably yeah it's been used in loads you should watch the documentary it's available to rent or buy for only three pounds 50 there's a documentary that i could rent about the tony hawk's games and i haven't done that so if i haven't done that i'm not going to watch one about fonts all right are you like cryptic crossword clues i think i see in that they are very hard to relate to the actual item but um i try to give some recognizable letters oh yeah yes well i mean i know what it is obviously of course you do it's doom okay and i do appreciate the double o's in there that make it a lot more easy to identify i think i would have got it even if it had said you know something entirely i don't know if there weren't any o's i think it would look like a sort of metal like you know like the double o is in the middle yeah it does help a lot of the giveaway yes it said if it said like um help people or something yeah that would be tricky you'd be like i don't know it's got that thing of the the the triangular bits at the bottom as well okay do you concur andy i concur is it okay let's find need someone to look after to put all the disks back in the right boxes so if you are a youtuber and you've received that email be very careful what if it isn't what if they were genuinely offering a cyberpunk 2077 code and we're like uh you had a typo in your email so we assume can i can i just read um this one this one line for me because it's really amazing okay let's hear it they're describing the game okay um ready to start your journey in a cruel and adventurous world feel the unrealistic action realistic graphics and exciting plot unrealistic action i don't know okay all right what i love most is the unrealistic action the unrealism of it all the shearer i don't need cyberpunk uh review code because i've been promised a lot of money from a nigerian prince yeah and so it seems like you know yeah find your own cyberpunk okay ready for a new one yes ready for fresh one that will a game that will bring you a lot of emotions speaking of games that bring you a lot of emotions yes brings me the emotion that i shouldn't have said it would be the first one damn it unrealistic gameplay in this particular font yes that's the sort of presentation when turning up turning a font into a logo of course is um quite it's a separate matter right but yeah i think we've all played so many grand theft auto games that we know know the font off by heart don't we yeah yep you know what's really good is the grand theft auto san andreas theme that is good you're gonna have the old singing i'm not isn't cool enough to be in grand theft auto i can't imagine like dr dre in the lab playing with the theremin dr dre and the g-funk pioneers doing a theremin but yeah i think i've mentioned i think i've mentioned this before but my favorite appearance of the theremin in the game is that you're it's the level of wolfenstein the new colossus where you're on a like a venus like space base and the music's got all this kind of experiment in it and then you open a door and it's just a nazi playing a theremin you shoot him when the theremin stops playing that's so good it's really really good oh i love it that's really good it's a high-level gag like a dog yeah yeah i think most people like maybe wouldn't have swatted it mike's that's clever everybody is there not a lowercase r in this font oh why oh just because the font is uppercase but all the others that is that is the idiosyncratic styling of this font which is known as price down i believe so let's just check shall we i mean not everyone in the everyone in the uh chat recognizes a gta font when they see it and indeed it was a grand theft auto they've really stuck with that one right it's always been the grand theft auto there you go look the the brand is uppercase is lowercase yeah and also it has a little kicky a little a little leg it's throwing a bit of ankle on the r yeah there we go all right well done that was uh andy's five for five mike is four for five in this early easy part of our quiz eh you a game that of the science fiction also the font looks futurey yes the font looks future why does it look future futurey explain why you're getting the futuristic features you're a print journalist mike you know about you watch stocks it's got those kind of um it's very paired back and it's got those like smooth curves and very crisp right not a lot of embellishments yes no serifs right sans come from i don't know but what i will say is that they're designed to make it easier to read because the letters they guide your eye a long line okay serif fonts tend to be a bit easier to read okay forget what i said about chiseling letters into stone it may be where the origin is but the point of a serif is to kind of make it easier to read okay interesting interesting right well i've got a friend who's uh who's an artist and they do um they they had a exhibition of art which was internet comments um chiseled into blocks of stone like to give them permanence it looked it looked amazing like proper masonry work but like rubbish internet that's good um all right let's say at the same time all right okay i hope i'm right we might get a counselor count down okay and i'll say it first This was quite fun. I hope they do wind up doing the sound effect and landscape quiz ideas at some point.

Also, teasing Andy about cheating from the chat for no good reason is now one of my favorite things. Hope he's not actually annoyed about it.
