Can I SCULPT the TIP OF A PENCIL?

crap ah God action welcome to professional YouTube I'm Gaza that was among my best intro so far so I'm pretty sure everyone watching this has seen the Instagram posts or the reddit threads or even YouTube videos where people sculpt something on the tip of a pencil out of the lead obviously it's a medium that people use and I haven't thought to explore yet until the other day when I was making my watercolor pencils video using these pencils and I have one of those amazing experiences where you're trying to sharpen a pencil and every time you try and get a sharp tip it breaks the sharpener is not very good either let's just say old fashioned see if that's any better oh there's already a lead stuck in it off to a good start you scoop the laid out the stuck there it is yep okay and then you're like oh it's fixed now I'm gonna sharpen my pencil and then the freaking leg breaks in it and then you're gonna get the lid out again hashtag relatable hashtag artist problems okay so I'm not gonna be sculpting with this one because obviously that one's a bit of a dud however I did try and sharpen this pencil when I was doing the watercolor video and I ended up with this because I was using it for the flick thing you know where you get the water in that brush and you flick him and I was using that obviously this pencil can hold up to scrutiny so I'm gonna I'm gonna give this one a go so here's the plan what I'm gonna do is I'm going to try and make a simple tester sculpture with my pencil here I've got a magnifying glass light theme so we try and show the process as best we can at the end of the day I need to be able to zoom and then the light is going to be really useful to get in it as close as I can and see all that Wow alright so the sculpting tools I have a hobby knife or is it that's the scalp and that's a hobby knife I'm a professional but I also figured you know what like I mean look how small these LEDs are so I feel like I need like some pins maybe they like get into some of the nooks and crannies and details so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna start off by just trying to make something simple with no help I haven't looked at any pictures of the stuff anytime recently we just jump straight into it see how we go and then after I will go look at some inspiration look at some people actually do it and see how they do it and see if you're using some of the techniques so I pick up and observe if I can do something a little more substantial and epic so let's just jump into it and start with a clean slate that's my clean slate I'm just gonna shave this back try and reveal the lead first so basically I'm trying to shave back the wood and keep as much of the letter as possible so what I'm going to try and do to keep it simple is I'm gonna flatten out four side that's my foundation right there I don't have a clue what I'm doing I'm gonna sculpt it question mark I'm gonna use a pin I'm gonna sketch what I'm gonna sculpt you ready ah there's me pick up my uh war hammer Clippers it was pretty clean that as with any sculpture particularly am like am a space sculpture material like like stone you can't add back in once you've cut it it's cut so really gonna be careful to try and not let it snap or even like shave too much off shave off a little bit shape around this ah this is makes me nervous doing so well that's what came up it feels so much more substantial win is through the magnifying glass but it's just that alright it's that again I'm gonna be persistent with this because I want it for the thumb now can i sculpt the pencil leg have some faith in me minutes right I've got this a good start before I know how to get straight into it now let's do it man all right let's create a nice flat clean surface and let the draw out question mark this is where I need to really slow down so this is really quite nerve-wracking out because I've ruined it before and I can rule it again Rudy we're already ruined again ruin it's a good out stabbing my thing up the sacrifices I make for art and for your entertainment are you not entertained yes because this is looking good all right I've got the hook of the question mark oh yeah if I blow too hard it might break off do this do it for the baby thumb now I've got to stop I'll go stopping too scared I can't stop oh my god I don't want to celebrate too soon one more cut oh look at that ah nailed it this is good I like that I'm really scared now because nothing needs to touch this or go near it so I'm gonna hide this way but later I'm going to take a great thumbnail candlelight carpet it'll we'll figure it out we take that later but you'll put this in a safe place now I'm pretty proud of myself I did with that without any helpful research but that was my Walmart was a terrifying warm-up with what felt like a substantial outcome I feel like if I was someone who was satisfied with the bare minimum that would be enough but I am NOT so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna look up people who have done this before pencil-lead sculpture oh my god what ah how do they do this makes me angry how the hell do they do that keep your expectations in check what I'll be doing later with this video first is you oh my god oh my how the hell do you do that although they are thicker lids how do you do the wrinkles on Yoda's face oh I hate all of you what ha ha they've got the legs and there's it's hollow between the legs yeah what about YouTube is done Bobbi Duke I come pencil from a pencil from a pencil ha oh boy look at it let it there's a tutorial educate me this is a tutorial by salavat if you die art they look like thick pencils to me they are his pencils together market don't OE this is the one where there's like the hearts are interlocking it is dude this is gonna take some time it is mind-blowing to me what I'm looking out there could happen here or could it am i that much of a glutton for punishment I think I am I'm gonna try and sculpt two interlocking hearts on this pencil let's see how this guy's wish me luck [Music] oh boy okay so I've spent hours sculpting this thing and I'm really happy with where I'm at so far as you can see I've got the general shapes of the top and the bottom love heart but I thought I would actually rather than try and finish a time-lapse I'd come back to you know doing a bit of a live presentation with you because I have zero confidence I'm going to get through this and have it survive at the end of it this is the bit where I'm going to be trying to detach the top love heart thing from the bottom of heart and we'll see how that goes by the way I hope you appreciate the setup I have to try and give you guys a really closer look at what I'm working on here because it's really hard to film this this is very small at the tip of a pencil feeling a little crowded so it's currently connected in three places it's connected here between the the inside of the top love heart in the top of the bottom love heart and then in the middle of the bottom love heart it's connected there and there of those connection points I'm trying to detach the middle one first because it's hardest to get to if I then remove the other connection points it'll be a smooth separation that's me cause my fingers are up there I feel like I've removed the connection I have oh my god it's happening so now let's remove the top one Oh what ah it's alive love and it worked better than I expected that's cool would guess and now that it's separated I can start to shape the bottom love heart and the base I'm hanging the love heart now so that I can sculpt on the inside when it moves and you didn't mean for it to move and you know that could have ruined the whole thing oh good okay okay the shapes there there it is look at that we've got a love heart on the bottom there I'm doing a big no-no I'm cutting towards my hand and fingers but in this scenario do it [Music] I'm at the stage now where I've cleaned up the wood and it's time to tape at the bottom so I have a really thin base leading up to the bottom love heart this is probably one of the more precarious things to do in this process because all of the weight of the mini sculpture I have so far will be on the area I am now carving out and I need it to be solid enough to hold its weight and accept the pressure of the carving that I'm doing so I need to know when to stop that's not mine that's not the thing I'm best at there we go good man okay good good we're good we're good we're good and we did it oh my god I did it I just look at it look at it Bengal in their little Bengal all right for context this is my beautiful outcome my result look at that I can't touch it without being scared and then next to it is a normal pencil oh my god I mean that's pretty crazy right there look at that leave that well hey everyone hey hey can I carve on the tip of a pencil huh huh yes I can like a boss I did the things you know I was originally thinking if I was gonna sculpt a pencil or do something like a character or a figure or something and I'm pretty happy with the shape like the shape of the little heart and then the shape of the beach do you know what it doesn't even matter because I got my victory dance look I even now have this weird little dual heart thing at least the shoppings really well anyway thank you so much for watching this video guys I
