sure there's a handful of people watching this video right now who are just like me people who have been playing Minecraft for oculi far too long this video is dedicated to you guys today we're going to take a look at some of the original things that only original Minecrafters will remember I'm going to start things off with some 2012 cutting edge technology pistons have just been introduced and I would say about 99% of the Pistons placed in 2012 were used for tramps like these I mean not a day would go by on any minecraft server where I didn't get caught up in one of these things trap animals used to be very very jumpy they would kind of hop around without any real rhyme or reason did you I mean there was there was some hopping around going on there it's kind of difficult to capture this stuff but trust me it used to happen a lot jump just jump for the camera I mean look at this guy over here did you see what I mean they just kinda jump around anyway I think my points been proven let's move on from that sponges are incredibly useful these days I use a little bunch to clear out loads of water but that hasn't always been the case you see back in the early days well you couldn't actually get sponges the only way that you get sponges in minecraft is if you cheated them in and when you did cheat them in you were very disappointed to find that they did absolutely nothing they didn't remove any water in the slightest in fact they didn't even really look like sponge they just looked like cheese it was a very strange texture in fact I would say it's probably one of the ugliest textures that ever existed in Minecraft if someone came up to me today and said that this chest on the Left filled with cookies is more valuable than this chest on the right filled with diamonds I'd probably laugh them out of the room but back in 2012 I probably would have agreed with them because cookies were not exactly easy things to come by you see cocoa beans didn't grow on trees like they do currently the only way that you could get cocoa beans is by finding them with mob spawners so that meant that if someone had a full chest of cookies I mean yeah they'd really put in the hours I'm actually shocked by this one but this this was the original build limit that used to be a Minecraft back when I first started playing I remember if you built something to the maximum build height of 128 blocks that would be considered an extremely tall building but if we just pub down to the floor here you can see that it is it's not exactly spectacular is it that's not grand or imposing imagine if you built a skyscraper and it was only that tall that's loveable I've seen trees go higher than that now I think we can all agree that Enderman are quite frustrating in the current version of Minecraft just picking up dirt and things but when they were first introduced they could pick up any block that they wanted to including bedrock now this was very quickly changed because it made a mess of a lot of things but I mean these guys would just wander around and then plunk bedrock somewhere and that's it it's gonna stay there forever who thought that was a good idea now speaking of funny updates and things I mean people complain about current updates when they roll out sand there's a handful of bugs here and there but the way that minecraft used to be updated was absolutely hilarious for example when the XP bar was introduced into the game they introduced the XP bar but then just didn't give it a use in the slightest it would go up reach the end and then go back to the beginning again and you wouldn't get any levels and there was no enchanting there was there was literally no reason for it to be there now I think we can all agree that opening your inventory with e makes total sense I mean it's right where your hand normally is but now in the early alpha days you would open the inventory with I a button that is right the way across the keyboard now I understand the inventory starts with AI but are used to drive me around the bend for some reason the sky was kind of a purpley colour I mean that is that is definitely powerful isn't it when it began to get dark the lighting engine wasn't very good gradually transitioning between darkness states so you would suddenly get these flashes of darkness and I have to say it was incredibly scary I mean when you're on your first night in the world and you saw that thing ticking down gradually to pitch black it was frightening and when I say pitch black I mean it there was no way to change the brightness setting of Minecraft so when it got dark it got really really tough I mean look at this I can barely see in front of me and if you got into some form of cave system well good luck seeing anything because he would just go completely pitch black you really needed your torches back in the day but staying on the top hink of the cave systems occasionally they would be lit up by glowing pools of what looks to be tomato soup yeah the lava texture has definitely been improved over the years nowadays we have creative mode unless we're honest grades mode is fantastic you have access to pretty much all the items in the game you can fly around you don't take any damage and you can mine out blocks instantly it works perfectly but it hasn't always existed when I first started playing there was no creative mode you had to create it yourself by installing a handful of mods first off you've got too many items that was essentially a creative mode inventory and then he had to get single player commands so that you can enter god mode flying around and also insta mind no way they still exist oh my word that's brought me right back so I was just about to say that when I first installed single player commands I discovered that Giants were a thing that were just in the game and I would spawn them everywhere I eat there wasn't one of the first builds that I ever did was I dug a gigantic hole I put glass over the top of it and I put a giant on the inside they're still in the game oh how is that I mean that I did just I'm filled with happiness right now I'm so glad to see that they still exist somewhere and so that kind of means that it's not really an old-school Minecraft thing because they're still they're still in Minecraft but I feel like they featured a lot more I mean you used to see Giants all the time people would spawn them everywhere now I haven't seen one for years nowadays we know that when we go to sleep in Minecraft you're gonna sleep through the night is gonna be fine but that hasn't always been the case generally speaking when used to go to bed in Minecraft you would be about 90% certain that you would be woken up by some form of zombie or skeleton in your room so you'd have to fight them off you go back to bed and then you'll be woken up again and then again and then again and then finally you would actually make it through the night when they were first introduced efficiency 5 pickaxes were literally the only tools that you needed in Minecraft you see they would work rather nicely on dirt they would work pretty well on wood as well and of course they would work fantastically on stone there was literally no reason for you to have a shovel or an axe you could just use this thing it was a much simpler time I actually think the motion should introduce a rear air multi-tool that you can only find in dungeons and can't repair but does exactly what the efficiency 5 pickaxe used to do pixel artists are going to cringe at this one but who remembers when these were the only brightly colored blocks in Minecraft there was no concrete there was none of that new terracotta hardened clay stuff it was literally wool and the wool texture was far uglier than it is currently Easter Egg time did you know that there's a 1 in 10,000 chance that your Minecraft menu screen says mince raft up at the top of it as opposed to Minecraft now I am certain I am certain that I've experienced this over my time playing Minecraft I've definitely opened minecraft way more than 10,000 times but I've never personally seen it if David Attenborough was a Minecraft about him 2012 he will be doing entire documentaries about how rare and close to extinction the pink sheep was you see back when I first started playing Minecraft if you manage to find a naturally spawning pink sheep you would 100% screenshot it and send it to all your friends because there is such a low chance of them spawning I feel like that isn't really a thing anymore I haven't heard people talking about pink sheep and ages this right here is going to fill me with a lot of nostalgia hoo right here remembers typing that in the seed for the world generator this is probably one of the most famous seeds in the history of Minecraft so I spawned in that incredibly dark cave right there I'm gradually making my way out and now I'm going to see this thing for the first time in many many years I remember this oh yeah there's the waterfalls this was before mountainous terrain was introduced in the game it was before ravines and everything like that so this is all just randomly generated by chance ended up turning into a really really cool sieve I mean I gotta say it's still quite beautiful to this day Wow look at that floating area they're so cool so so cool I've been hit with so much nostalgia right now I love it anyway moving on from that one before I start crying tears of joy does anyone remember when squid just used to fly all the time I mean it always has to happen you'd be chilling out on your house and then gradually a squid would just float through your wall travel through the room and then back out the other side it was always very strange to watch back in the day when you're looking for strongholds dungeons abandoned mineshafts or perhaps you were just checking to see if you'd lit up all the caves around you because it just built a mob farm up in the sky you would build a system a little bit like this so you'd push blocks into your head and then everything would go transparent and you'd be able to see everything around you so you can look out for cave systems and pretty much everything anyway now we move on to probably one of the most well requested original minecraft er things minecraft back when it was just an online game it didn't exist as a downloadable file instead you had to play it in the browser and it was actually very similar to creative mode the only blocks in the game were the ones there in my hotbar and there was no real survival element in the slightest you just built things in this very bright extremely saturated and definitely not infinitely generated landscape but this was the beginning of what has become an absolute icon in the gaming world to put it plainly it doesn't get much more original than that and on that note ladies and gentlemen I think it's time to end I hope that you've enjoyed this absolute nostalgia session I know that I personally have if you did Felicia to that like burn and I've really loved it then make sure to subscribe but thanks for watching guys disappear mumbo and I'm out I'll see ya later oh and as per usual filming channel staff link will be on the end screen laters mini-documentary check out if you want [Music] you [Music]
