Storage auction gone wrong! Police involved. Accidentally got more than I bargained for here!

hi i'm alex archbull and i've been buying and selling antiques since i was 9 years old from basements to scrap yards i'll look just about anywhere i can to find lost antiques and collectibles and sometimes i'll go big and buy everything i never know what's going to happen or who i'm going to meet this is our life this is our adventure and this is curiosity inc home honey [Music] good morning guys and welcome to today's episode i've got my kids steven with me that one and we are going right now uh we're headed downtown because apparently last night i won a storage unit uh i kind of put a bid in on one that was online and i got the notification this morning saying congrats now come get your stuff so that's just what we're gonna go do uh follow along in today's episode while we do um a whole bunch of unboxings and dig through a storage unit and see what we got today it should be a fun one oh off we go the unit we purchased today is actually right in downtown edmonton if you see all the skyscrapers and stuff behind me here who's to say it could be office fixtures it could be household there are people that live in this area it's anybody's guess we'll go inside pay for it and see what we found managed to find a cart we got the lock off already this place is a maze up here room after room full of stuff but here is our unit right there let's open it up and have a look and it's packed there are boxes and a barbecue and a patio chair and all kinds of stuff in here who knows what a gucci purse that would be nice if it was i don't think so maybe it's gas oh yeah it's gas juicy couture maybe there's some you know maybe there'll be some brand name stuff in here who knows i guess all we have to do now is start to dig in and pulling stuff out and hopefully find a few goodies in here that make this worthwhile seems like this might have been the locker of a younger person which maybe there's some jewelry or other things in here so far we're finding some things that are actually just you know donatable i mean somebody might want now the guest price is in terrible shape so that can go is there anything in the purse though nope it's been hollowed out stephen maybe just double check that make sure there's nothing inside shoebox with uh well there's a brand new pair of shoes in there 130 dollar pair of shoes i'm going to keep those separate where are they by kamara lee simmons well they i mean they came from an expensive store town shoes good stuff i'll leave that aside for now hey there's a basketball okay we'll keep digging oh that's right steven this was owned by a girly girl you can tell because of this ultra dark bronzing formula yoink so far there's really not been much other than one pair of new shoes that might have some value or just sorting some of the stuff like the clothes and that will be able to go to charity so there will be some recycling done we can get some stuff off looks like they do you imagine if there's like a million dollar winning lottery ticket in here thanks for trying it's like the storage locker so far thanks for trying yeah it just looks like clothes i have a feeling this was more than a girly girl there's black lacy gloves of all the units to have my son help me with um i believe they might have been a dancer of sorts you might say um of the exotic variety so stephen you might have to overt your eyes if we find certain other things in here so far it's been fairly innocent other than the you know the odd little uh thing the reason i i think dancer i'm not just saying that because there's black gloves because somebody might be like well i've got black gloves we found a business card that uh mentioned what they did and i didn't want to show it on camera obviously they had their name on it but who knows but see even exotic dancers need to keep the bugs out of their house with window screen netting bomb great for all occasions like i'm hoping for vintage toys and i'm worried about what type of toys i'm going to find in this unit but look there's um suntan goggles the first thing a value in there probably like some money there's like 25 cents uh well there's a little bit of jewelry we can start to create a little pile of jewelry i guess and hope that maybe there's a couple pieces in here that'll add up a battery charger for a camera yeah for a cannon well i don't know what kind of dancer she was but i give her an f minus on her packing skills i mean heck maybe she was in a hurry or something but nothing is really super organized i'm trying to take out the things that uh you know might be of some use or value again like for me there's um pledge conditioner pine salt cleaner rain x for your car some tools um but we've got a pile of stuff that actually can go to charity and so like i said a lot of a lot of good will come of this because there is some you know clothes and things like that mind you i'm not sure what sales rack those clothes will end up on you don't go to goodwill and you'll be like hey 10 inch stilettos awesome to wear around the house uh but we're gonna start loading the truck up so we have room to uh dig through the rest of this here first load okay we'll start unpacking and cramming it in the truck here okay with the uh bags of clothes and let's just say paraphernalia moved out of the way uh we can finally get to some of these other boxes and things so i guess what we'll do kiddo is we'll get this barbecue out of here there's some little stuff on the bottom that i jammed under there we gotta move all right i'll set this off to the side hopefully nobody comes from one of these other units and needs in this is going to get a little messy in here i thought this might be pictures or something but uh do you want to unwrap it and see what it is while you're doing that oh actually can you let me know if that is what i think it is i'll stick that there for now get the barbecue out and is it what i think it is yep it is it's a relatively new flat screen tv cool samsung i'm gonna re-wrap it because i don't want to break it okay and i think we also found there's movies and we found a bunch of xbox video games too so maybe there's an xbox 360 in here too which would be kind of nice wood first box down and there's oh there's a safe yeah is there anything in it that was a question fire safe it doesn't doesn't sound like it but that is a safe well that that's kind of cool yeah i wonder if the code's in there for it that you know fire safes are not cheap no they're not so maybe that maybe for lucky we'll find the code there's a toaster okay let's load the box on the cart you want to put the you can put the safe back in the box absolutely good we'll load it up well starting to feel up here i paid a couple hundred well 240 bucks for this unit already we got a tv and a bunch of xbox games that's a good sign this bin has purses and more purses what brand is that i can't really tell there's a lot of purses and hey look nintendo 64. oh that's cool mom would be happy about that mom likes to nintendo it's random that there's a nintendo in with a hair curler set and binders for stuff oh there's the controllers yeah okay so maybe we'll find some n64 games in here n64 is a good find binder is full of stuff cool okay we'll load that one up this box is labeled dvds and pictures that look it's chock-full of video games like boxes and boxes and boxes well not boxes folded there are piles of xbox 360 psp and are they in there just the cases oh look that one's not in there do you imagine these are all just empty cases no it's in there yeah it's in there okay and stuff let's see watchman is derek goats bruno all right well i mean just in video games alone there's probably like 500 bucks worth of video games between this and the other games we found well steven's going to take the cart load of stuff we've had so far i found a few boxes that are completely full of kitchen stuff you know pots and pans and things like that i'm hoping to find the other video game systems hoping that they're in here but i can see this goes all the way to the back like there's a long way to go before we even get close to being done here so i'm going to keep on digging keep going through boxes it seems like she must have quite the makeup budget because there's been bins and bins and bins full of makeup just generic sort of stuff but uh maybe there's some furniture in here too never a big fan of finding furniture because i don't like to deal on that stuff but again good for donation and some tables down there lots of boxes to go through still so lots to explore oh could this be what i think is it actually in its box or is it something else in here i kind of hope it's in here let's see get this opened up yep there we go xbox 360 with the box and it feels like there's a bunch of other stuff in the bottom here too controllers and accessories and stuff like that yeah it's all ahead sweet kind of doing a little bit of sorting here to figure out what's going to charity and what's not but i found this brand new henkel's knife block and i thought oh there's no knives but look there's a bunch of brand new henkels knives in the package still and some of these retail can be like over a hundred dollars each on so i'm actually gonna take those home to melissa and see if there's any of those that she wants to keep for herself okay back to another load we're gonna haul down our giant box of video games found more baking pans and household type stuff which somebody can probably use and another big box of dvds possibly some more games we'll bring that one back to the house and we'll go through and see maybe there's some in there that might want to watch who knows but there's still a lot more to go well another box full of gamecube games i should point out that steve and i also found a gamecube some christmas ornaments some tv cds and dvds but tons of video games and you know video games are the one thing that they'll even if they sit around people still buy them sunglasses apple bottom sunglasses a few little brand new things in here that's got to be fake versace i would think odds and ends always a little bit nervous what's in a cooler okay somebody left their food in here or whatever but we have shoes jewelry box with a little bit of jewelry some watches don't see any rolexes or anything like that but you know there's some jewelry there's some stuff okay another basket full of stuff there's a wallet and nothing inside really this is a jewelry store bag from mappings there's some jewelry boxes in here with nothing in it but i've learned it yep you don't have to look that far of course that went flying all over the place there was jewelry in there in the other box uh go back down and figure out where all that stuff went well you never know what treasures you're gonna find in the box another jewelry box there's nothing in it and look at the family jewels and thank goodness there's nothing inside of that but um i have a feeling that whatever this jewelry wherever it is it's in here somewhere a lot of times people keep the boxes separate from the jewelry itself so i'm not uh losing hope completely just yet feels too light to be shoes look there's an autographed baseball hat or i say baseball hat is hockey oilers number 16. who's number 16 steven i have no idea i can't think of it either but autograph stuff sells i'm sure i'll figure it out and what else boxes full of stuff okay hang on give me a sec i'm perched on top of the cooler digging away oh it's an ipad box i mean even if we find an ipad it's probably got a block on it so probably wouldn't be any good empty more clothes lots of clothes now the lady at the front desk said that uh apparently they heard that there might be a whole bunch of money stash in here because the person who lost the unit was saying let me in lots of money in here we've not found any money yet for the record but there might be some money stash in here somewhere so we're being kind of careful to go through everything so far just had a bunch of makeup and receipts nothing really exciting just yet we'll have to go through it really thoroughly though we are currently at the dump right now that's all the bins around me and stuff uh waiting our turn to go drop off a load of stuff there is a lot of things in there that you know like use makeup and stuff that uh although i'm sure they probably spent a whole pile of money on not things i can donate not things i can resell so off it will go just waiting um i think it's gonna be our turn right away here we'll offload then we're gonna do one more load today one more trip in there for the day before we call it quits i think hey we are getting the last load of stuff for today out we we've got more than halfway through the locker which is good and a lot of loads of things um still have not got back to the back corner here crotches those can go yeah we're trying to get rid of basically as much stuff as we can do not checked these bins over yet did find a computer although look it's got quite the little whammy in it somebody left a big dent in that thing so who's to say whether it'll even turn on or not but there's a computer and set that aside okay in this bag it was mark's shoes but we found a guest purse in reasonably good shape a vintage toronto blue jays jacket but it's got a pretty big hole in the pocket there that's too bad that would have been a cool piece it's from the 80s dresses curling iron there's a ton of curling irons in here once you forget where you put your curling iron just go and buy another one and here we have those some brand new shoes set those aside i mean heck you know they're if they've never been worn made in italy yeah brandy they look like doc martens or something those are actually probably pretty expensive shoes it doesn't have a price on them but italian made boots there's a box of something in the bottom here bicycle helmet i'm gonna get this stuff out of here steven you want to double check this bag make sure i didn't miss anything sure in there you got it surprised yep curly hands we'll get you every time there's another 159 pair of shoes are they new oh they're not even in there but there are some charger cables things like that okay well i guess it pays to check the clothing bags because that's a like new north face jacket these things are not cheap it's probably like close to a couple hundred dollars for a jacket like that so isn't melissa and abigail's size hmm don't know if they want something out of a storage unit but why not i mean we own it now so may as well bring it back and show them anyway well i don't know why that girl or whoever on this unit before was so uptight there's no cash apparently she was really anxious to get back in her unit there's not much in here it's a weird jewelry scale i think that's a scale digital scale well it looks like maybe they like to party a little bit i got down to the back corner here all i really have left is a couple bins um this box here had this bag in it so i just pulled it out oh it stinks i recognize that smell it smells a little skunky let's see what's in the oh hang on oh my yep oh no oh no this whole thing this whole giant bag is full of drugs i'm saying that quietly because i'm in a storage unit with other people around but i'm gonna have to take all this in all these baggies of this whatever this is definitely some of its pot i gotta take it to the police there goes my day i just have to call it quits on the exploration for now because i just found a hefty bag full of marijuana i have no idea what that's worth not that that should be the first thing on my mind don't worry i'm not gonna go try and sell it i'm just curious but now i gotta go explain this to the police great well that puts a bit of a damper on the day i'm gonna take this giant sack hope it'll get pulled over on the way that'd take some explaining to do ah well i mean i got most of it done but there's still boxes i haven't explored yet but uh you find something like this you gotta go turn it in now there's a couple ways that a day like this could go usually you hope i'm gonna find a box of old hot wheels or you know maybe some jewelry or something i mean i guess i found thousands of dollars worth of stuff nothing i can sell though or nothing i should sell um so now my bonding experience with my son today has changed to uh showing him how to turn in a hefty bag full of drugs at the police station so that's where we're off to next yeah i'm learning life lessons life lessons well i'm at the police station it's right behind me i'm going in there and i'm thinking okay i've got my hair is starting to look surfery i've got a hawaiian shirt on they might not believe it's not mine mind you why would i turn it in of all the the things to do and i thought about how i'm gonna say it uh steven doesn't agree that i should just walk in and go drugs i got a bag of drugs he doesn't think that's the way to do it um so i guess i'll just be cool about it and be like ah funny story anyway um i guess i'll update you guys once i'm out of there if i get out of there wish me luck it is the next morning um i want to tell you what happened with the police station so um i went in there and i wanted to show my son you know you get something like this um these things happen you take it into the place you turn it in you do the right thing so that's what we did but there was only one police officer working the desk and there was a lineup of probably 10 or 12 people and uh you know it's a mixed bag of people at a police station so i had to sit there and wait for an hour in a waiting room with a santa claus sized sack of drugs at my feet anyway so when they find and people are kind of looking over at me like what's this guy have in the bag um anyway so i get up there and they have this glass divider and they're like you know what are you here for and i'm like i got a big bag of drugs that i want to turn in so actually they're pretty um chill about it they're like what and i said i bought a storage unit and anyway i gave them all the information that i had so they put on their gloves they came and they grabbed the the drugs and they took them back inside so i'm glad that that stuff is off uh and out of my hands the one thing though is that um there was marijuana but there was bags and bags of uh heroin and cocaine um so i don't know how to identify um what drugs or what but apparently there was bags and bags of uh blue rubber gloves that were filled with stuff and um yeah there was probably a hundred or maybe more thousand dollars worth of uh merchandise that i ended up turning in so uh somebody's not gonna be happy that they lost that storage unit um but uh it is all off the street i can't tell you how awkward it was waiting with a giant bag of drugs at a police station with you know um just your story that you found it in a storage unit but i guess if i was a bad person or uh a deal or whatever i wouldn't be turning this stuff in so anyway uh an interesting day so far i'm gonna try and find some pauses we're gonna go back there today um there's just a few more bins and things to haul out of there and we're gonna try and make the best of it find some really great things bring them back home and sort through and sift and see what can we keep and what can we sell and i'm hoping there's going to be a few things for melissa and for abigail in there so i'm going to grab steven and then we're going to head back over and finish cleaning out what was the most surprising storage unit i purchased so far anyways uh so i'm headed back there now so let's go check it out so stephen you ready for another exciting day yeah yeah well hopefully we don't find anything else like that i was kind of hoping for a duffel bag full of cash would have been nice but that never happened well this is the last day here there's not much left um there are still a few little boxes to quote-unquote explore um we're going to try and get this loaded up but we're going to do an order of things that we want to bring home to sort and things that are going to go to charity and things that are just garbage and perhaps things that need to go to a police station so be interested to know what's on that laptop or maybe i don't want to know uh okay we got some more movies and the only once living thing that's not drug related there's a uh tessimo bosch coffee maker all right well kiddo i'm gonna start handing you stuff and we'll start loading it up on the cart you good with that yep okay oh look a scale i wonder why i saw that yesterday and that was like one of the first things that clued me in that we might be running into some weird stuff you hope you're gonna find like oh they were a jeweler and there's diamonds and they were weighing their diamonds in gold but nope that's not the case 2013. a little post-it note set hmm carefully carefree thong no thanks more dvds there is a pile of tvs well not a whole lot going on in that bag i wonder if this was nicholas cage's old unit you know why conair oh one of his better movies i got like no reaction that no reaction was the best reaction anyway that can go to charity there are still lots of bins full of stuff and i kind of like i was telling my son i hate um throwing out perfectly good shampoo and stuff you know but you don't know what if it's if something's been done to it or if it's safe or not but there's a lot of stuff that we can donate i'm trying my best to salvage as much as we can but um boy you just have to be very careful with the unit like this like another scale well nothing says sketchy like a blacked out plastic bag maybe there's nothing bad in there santa's sugar cookie scented wax cubes really bashed up phone spray paint don't know what that is i'm gonna open this off camera because i think i know what that is yeah well some it looks like i'm gonna have to make another trip to the police station because i just found another box right there full of stuff it's kind of a little bit weird to me that i'm the one who's like i told them i have a storage unit for another day like please come make sure it's safe or make sure there's no more drugs and like now you find some more just bring it in this looks like it's mainly like um nail polish and uh things of that nature hoodie the girls are here helping me now that all the drama is behind us uh we're going through some stuff that maybe they want to keep did you find something so far abigail i think so i like these you found a couple shirts yeah we're gonna have to wash them really good obviously uh there's lots of hockey jerseys and these are like brand new they're in great shape and those are like like 100 bucks each retail depends on what it is but yeah connor mcdavid would be pricey yeah he's the hot star of the oilers right now yeah there's a bunch of them sadly there's lots of good shoes in here too but none of them will fit you guys there is uh timberlands like fancy timberlands italian winter boots and stuff anyway we're gonna keep digging while the girls were looking at stuff that they might be able to use i found this it's a ryobi drill and driving multi-pack set i'm always running low on drill bits sometimes they get rounded sometimes they get worn and there's even this little tiny drill isn't that cute i hope the charger's in there yep chargers in there great little thing to take with you if you're traveling you need a little drill on the go i've found a whole pile of video game systems the xbox 360. uh stacks and stacks of games the whole bin is full of games there's a nintendo 64 there's an original xbox a nintendo gamecube a nintendo ds lite every kind of video game you can imagine a system from like you know five years ago or five to 15 years ago is probably in there somewhere and we've invited we invited our sister-in-law over and our niece over to see if there's anything they could use because they have tiny little feet might match some of these shoes and clothes so why not uh get some of these things back out there in the market back out there on people's feet where they belong and look there's a brand new henkels knife block and brand new heinkel's knives the five star brand knives good quality set and it's all still sealed in plastic brand new and pretty sure we might have a use for that too so aside from uh the other stuff you know i am finding some things of value uh that we can use and and uh work with anyway oh plus i haven't opened up the tv yet to see what that's like going through some of the video games there's an awful lot of video games and like a you know five or ten bucks a piece that starts to add up i'm guessing there's probably about 500 worth of video games maybe there's a little irony they've got pineapple express and breaking bad in their movie collection i wonder if they watched these to the very end maybe that would have changed their outlook on the profession but anyway lots of movies in here well cleaned up the tv it's working perfectly our old one was kind of on the way out the door for the basement anyway so there we go upgraded tv just like that well that's it for today's video guys all in all i think i still have about 750 of sellable product to sell with the video game systems the consoles all the games the dvds um there's a pile of good stuff that we ended up keeping back the uh brand new henkel knives those things are pretty pricey abio got herself we looked it up the north face jacket is 300 jacket so really 245 bucks spent on the unit thousands of dollars returned i would say it was a good day plus we got a giant bag of drugs off the street there's something to be said about that so uh pretty decent day and i'm sure a story that i'll be able to share with my son uh forever i'll be like an old man and he'll be like dad remember that one time that we pulled a giant sack of drugs out of a storage unit uh there's there's better stories you want to be able to tell but the good thing is they're not in the hands of criminals back to the police we were able to salvage some things that we could resell and all in all it turned out to be a pretty good trip um so thanks very much
