hi I'm Alex Archbold and I've been buying and selling antiques since I was nine years old from basements to scrap yards I'll look just about anywhere I can to find lost antiques and collectibles and sometimes I'll go big and buy everything I never know what's going to happen or who I'm going to meet this is our life this is our adventure and this is curiosity Inc [Music] hey guys and welcome to today's episode while I just got done emptying out all the boxes that were in my garage so I can actually see my motorcycles and stuff again but then I got another call to go to an estate uh it was a hoarded house but they weren't prepared to sell everything in there which is probably a blessing disguise because frankly I'm still recovering from that last uh I guess two collections that I bought but I did fill the truck full of antiques now in some cases I really don't know what I bought because the suitcases were sealed the boxes were closed and we're going to do a little bit of Discovery today um might be a few videos to get through it all but uh you should see how much stuff is in the back of my truck I say that like it's an impressive amount I've already hauled some stuff out but I've got boxes and boxes and boxes of things and it's a little bit chilly so I'm going to start hauling this stuff into the garage where I'll have a chance to sort it go through it with you and um you know maybe find a few interesting discoveries I'm pretty sure there's going to be a lot of cool stuff in here but uh I bought it just kind of on a hunch let's hope my hunch was right okay everything is loaded inside the garage and if you're watching at home or wherever you are don't adjust your volume my shirt is just this loud uh and I haven't been baking even though I got flour all over my shirt anyway uh we're gonna be going through these boxes that are right here right away I have to get some tables uh kind of spread out here so I can organize this stuff and um I think I'm just going to be able to make it under the wire to get it into the late December auction that we're doing so uh let's see if we can go through some of this stuff and find some goodies here we go I wish I could have taken you guys into the house where this stuff all came from because it was a hoarded house it would have been a great adventure but the um people looking after the state did not want the home itself on camera so I couldn't go and show you where I found all this stuff but you can imagine like every other sort of hoarded house I've been through this was not much different very full very cluttered but I think I found some gems the first thing I want to show you actually is this it's a tiny little curio cabinet which in itself is not um overly unique but when you open it up someone has built a little uh living space upstairs with the table and a little baby in a bassinet and looks like maybe a gift there and when we stroll scroll down here and have a look um it looks like they had this flower on the shelves it's kind of fallen over since I brought it home there's little packages of sugar little rolls of things that have fallen down that almost looks like a little roll of wrapping paper and uh what is this meant to be uh it is the uh Athens channel uh Temple sweets cakes [Music] anyway that was on there so I guess this is like a little cake shop that they had come up with and uh I'm gonna stalk the shelves again it's a little cake shop that they made and then they built like a little uh apartment up above with wall blind wallpaper and everything but you can see from the size of my hand it's not very big in fact um this is probably about only a foot and a half tall this little cabinet but kind of a cute thing even little area rugs and this tiny little carpet that says Michigan uh for Michigan State University like a little doll sized carpet very cute thing and that is uh I think a sample of what I'm gonna find in amongst all this other stuff so I'm going to set this um off to the side here try not to jostle it too much because I don't want to knock all the sweets and stuff over again but we're going to begin with um I guess this box because it's kind of easy pickings and some people ask and I I know I've said this on a billion episodes why do I not use a GoPro well look if I had a GoPro I couldn't move the camera around and show you the underneath like that I also couldn't peek in the Box I know what I was looking at so I have to be the camera operator to take you guys on this adventure fully but for those of you that have been with my channel for a long time you already know that don't belong I don't know if this is a Tonka truck or what this is does it say on the wheels hurdle Maybe a really old herbal dump truck kind of nifty I think somebody's probably painted it at some point but um it looks like it might have had a little bit of hand painting happening back there but it's cool so we've got a uh pressed steel a little truck take this out it's a Montgomery Ward spring and summer catalog but look at the okay first off it's the full catalog department store catalogs are super fun to go through dated 1941. right around the time that the United States was getting into World War II World War II had been going on for uh a couple years by this point and it wasn't I think until around Pearl Harbor that they that America became involved so I guess that when this catalog came out in Spring um they weren't really thinking about probably joining the war at that point everything looks like it's all very you know fun and outdoorsy and everybody's having a good time high-waisted pants the jumpers those who've come back into fashion again I showed this catalog to my daughter and she's like I would wear some of these outfits now and the nice thing about uh looking through a catalog like this is if you want to see just how people were dressing at the time if you wanted to replicate that for a movie or a play or if you just want to be like 1940s girl you can uh get a catalog like this and pick an outfit and make it you know see how they did their hair it's pretty cool of course the further you go into the catalog that you get into the guy stuff look big difference the ladies are all sort of done up and looking nice and polka dot what do you have the man there's your fella right there but that's advertising uh work boots I imagine there you go there's your Dapper dance right there and the kids high chairs pretty much everything you can imagine used to be able to buy so much stuff at a department store everything really that you can think of from threads to Fabrics to carpets everything a person could possibly ever need could be purchased through a department store even racing tires apparently tractor tires in the old Eaton's catalogs here in Canada and I'm not sure about these catalogs but you could um uh order well there you go there's windows but you could order complete house kits and they had catalog kits for building a whole home it would just show up on a train every bit of lumber and every bit of wood that you would need anyhow catalogs like that are not super easy to come by so pretty cool when you find one from the early 40s like this and it's all intact and just a really neat reference piece to our past back in the box we have um this is an RCMP doll you can see by his patch on his shoulder and he's got his hat I'm gonna take him out of the plastic and show you a little bit better there we go I got him more or less together his hat and his boots were off and they were filled with Kleenex to keep them nice and full but he looks better with them on and he has a little pistol tucked in to his belt there he is complete with his hat it's dated somebody put the date of 1941 but this is a reliable toy which it says right on the back so the reliable toy company um this is the same mold that they use for the head of the Texas Ranger or The Lone Ranger toy I believe and they adapt it for the Canadian Market to be a RCMP officer mountie as we might call them uh he dates to about 1937. so a fairly old piece and nice that he's very complete they're often missing their accessories and their boots and their hat so he looks like he's 100 all there but that wasn't the only doll in here in fact I think we're going to stumble across a number of dolls and the nice thing is there are little notations with them too I'm going to get them out of their sealed plastic uh sarcophagus and get them out in the open again here so we can have a look this is a porcelain doll she's overall in really good condition she dates to about 1910. and in the little bag with her while she had her shoes uh a little bit of extra lace a tiny little cocktail purse that she could wear and what is inside the cocktail purse but some actual antique money uh from 19 06 it looks like 1906 Canadian penny in dime so this gal has been kept together as she was for quite some time but how cute that she has her little cocktail purse it looks like there's a necklace in here too and some earrings some accessories a drawing that probably a little girl did of her at that at that time actually lots of little drawings maybe some outfit suggestions it looks like those are very similar to the shoes that are on her so she had some ideas of how she wanted to dress her up and of course little notes and stuff in here too but uh really neat to find sets as complete as that this lady that had this collection was a pretty serious Doll Collector at one point going way back and so I think we're going to find a number of dolls here today okay something more up my alley a little tin is it a Ford yep it even says Ford rate on it and it has a tiny little camper that goes along with it looks like this is a matching set you got the camper hitches on something like that with the little forward pulling it reminds me there was a Lucille Ball movie I think called the Caravan or something like that or the holiday I mean they take they take Giant trailer through the mountains and it's it's terrifying even thinking about them having to film that let alone somebody doing it on a holiday nice little set that would date back to right around that time mid 50s 56 57 somewhere in there and exceptional condition too let's keep on looking I like I get it that there's these uh the dolls that are wrapped up in plastic I guess I'll come back to that in a sec here's an eight piece it is a antique dollhouse uh ice box it's marked Alaska on it and look there's even miniature little blocks of ice in there and some baking pans I guess all the things that you'd need for your dollhouse ice box that is a period correct piece that's cast iron and I don't know if the let's see patent applied for it says on the bottom but that's probably about as old as this is probably replicating a modern refrigerator at the time that door just came with us there we go so that would be teens likely 1900s teens before refrigerators came around that's what you did you put your ice in the ice box foreign judging from the look of this book I'm going to say it's Victorian like late 1800s early 1900s somewhere in there and what is inside it looks like advertisements in cards maybe postcards from around that period of time Cas cascado mineral water maybe these are bottle labels some of them too possum seed store funder Oregon blood purifier funders is the best funders Oregon blood purifier complements of Russell and Co Portland Oregon so a lot of stuff from Oregon in this area but again this is uh really old this is going way back there you can see some of the cards have fallen out over the years or somebody's taking them out here's one that fell out but it's still there is it a postcard no it doesn't say any little advertisements use Mountain buds tea and the U.S Cruiser Charleston that might have been something that's been somewhere like that it was a children's shoe store advertisement you can see the toes missing off the the shoe there but that is an early button Style boot something's missing there and then get back into more of these sort of advertisements and just really pretty graphics on here there's again possum seed store Portland Oregon 2nd and Taylor Street maybe somebody watching at home can do some research and see when Possum's seed store was in Portland on 2nd and Taylor to get an idea of what era this is from but again I'm going to Hazard a guess like this is around 1895 to 1905 somewhere in there I think this entire collection look there's hires root beer advertisements where they had their dog drink in the root beer I want another glass of higher's root beer I'm pretty old root beer advertisements compliments of Russell and Company Portland Oregon some kids on Horseback or on donkeys I mean this thing's definitely been around for a while you can tell it it has some serious age to it and I guess most of these are probably just like little uh little ads they would have given out at the shops let's see there's a loose one there I want to see what's on the back of it if I can get to it oh yeah golden welt baking powder sole manufacturer Portland Oregon so yeah what a neat scrapbook full of very early advertisement cards from it looks like Portland there's another one East Portland fence work Portland Oregon so these would act like a business card I guess wow that's pretty special very very easy set that off to the side over here and I guess it's about time I have a look at this doll it's giving off kind of uh European Red Riding Hood sort of Vibes I pretty much bought whatever doll that looked like it was going to have a little bit more age to it but I truth truth be told might go back to that house because there was so many rooms that I really didn't have a chance to look through that I probably missed something but let's get this one open up and see what we have okay any guesses at home what year this doll might be from take a good look and then I'll tell you in a second so porcelain with little glass eyes in there this doll if you guessed 1895. 18 inch doll you would have been correct this doll has been around since 1895 and intact and now it's made its way through all these years of little girls and collectors and grandmas to my garage where I will find another home for it before too long but we are getting some extremely old I would say some of the oldest dolls that I've ever had are sitting on this table right now and I don't deal in dolls a whole lot but when in this very nice condition the hands are all good the outfit's nice the paint and everything is good she doesn't have little boots on but she's got little socks on her feet wow I guess we'll start laying them out and see exactly how many we find here [Applause] if there are doll collectors out there right now I guarantee they'd probably want to be hanging out with me here this is a little fella with short orange hair no outfit while he's got sort of this jointed body articulated body but there's a picture of a kid that looks just like him on the back so was this perhaps an advertising piece Maybe a little Jack Horner maybe I don't know he's eating pie but he would have it looks like a little sailor suit on at some point let's open up the bag and see what the notes say inside like the other doll there was a drawing of perhaps what his accessories Were Meant To Be should they find them it looks like a little sailor outfit with a kite and a boat and a ball a little sailor hat I guess maybe that was an inspiration picture um this doll it says it's dated 1919 to 1929 in Germany and it's a 12 and a quarter inch doll and again really good shape he just needs his clothes other than that so far all these dolls are in really great shape digging further into this box I may have found a doll that's actually older than the 1895 doll this doll would date to about 1875 according to the tag that's on it which I would trust it says it had the body repaired so the fabric all looks good the hard Excelsior filling looks good can you feel this yep reflexes are good but um again no chips or a little bit of wear on the back of the hair but really that's in great shape and this is referred to as a China head doll because that's of course a material that's made of is China like your teacup or saucer set as opposed as opposed to like a porcelain doll a little bit different material you can see the shine it's much glossier hopefully the outfit is in there for because that would make a nice dull and complete and actually before I look for the outfit there you can see on this little rocking chair we have another one of these um 1800s uh China dolls and does she have a tag on her to help date her there's all sorts of stuff she's parked on top of let's see little gold child's ring from 1900 it says yeah this would be similar in Age based on the the hairstyle and the outfit that's going to be like 1855 to 1875 probably not that far off well actually this rocker is probably a little bit newer but she's sitting on this chair and I can't even take her off the chair oh there it is 1875. old body four inch head 18 inch body so she's been tied onto that chair obviously so she can't get rocked off of it I'm going to release her from her chair so that she can be uh free and we can give her a little bit of a dusting because look how much dust has built up on her over the years but uh super super shape I might actually just get a little compressed air and blow that off he's pretty dusty but dress is there everything is there gave her a little bit of a dusting can you see that floating around it's like the ghost of the doll has taken off but um she's really in remarkably good condition considering how old she is it was just a little Dusty just a lot Dusty probably been sitting in that same spot for 50 years where I found her so I'm going to cut her free I'm gonna cut this little string off there we go and she's free from that chair where she sat for who knows how long there we go you can come hang out with your buddies over here maybe I'll move this car and trailer out of the way there we go there we go you can see the head size the difference there but similar age right I was gonna look and see if I had clothes for her in this box let's just bring this whole box out and have a look because there's all sorts of stuff in here and uh if I'm lucky well there's another body this body is somewhat cheaper than the other body found on something or other oh I see it's the same kind of body as the boy it's a it's an extra boy body would be nice if his clothes were in here oh look a fountain pen fountain pen what brand you might ask it's um uh ever Sharp cool coins and fountain pens mixed in amongst dolls why not while there's clothes in here these aren't her clothes I think this was just used as padding and it looks like the moths or something have been in here look at that good thing they didn't get to the dolls I'll get that out of the way and yeah okay there's a little dress and I wonder if we have everything we need put her back together well she's got a dress anyhow maybe a little lace there this might be a good opportunity for Abigail Melissa to help me piece some of these things back together too they're out at the time of this filming so there's cards I'm talking about the doll maybe the sort of look they were going for bisque German boy doll by Ernst koppeldorf with old cloth body 1920s okay that's for that I don't see any other clothes in here let me keep looking though nope no other clothes in the box but uh we did find a little dress for her and some lace and other things so maybe I'll be lucky enough to find the uh uh I guess I shouldn't say dress that's the um undergarments but perhaps there is a proper dress in one of these other boxes that'll fit her we'll keep looking because uh that's probably a you know these dolls can be you know several hundred dollars and up especially if they're complete so it's worth seeing if I can find all the accessories that might go along with her that's one step closer keep her aside okay I think we'll just basically go through this one box today I'll have to do this in a couple videos because there's so much to do and there's so much to see and everybody always says Alex slow down we want to see everything that you're seeing there's a little mini bike Japanese plastic tube handles yeah it's just like a little toy mini bike 1960s kind of era it is kind of nice that there's a little note with everything that I've been finding so far it makes it really a lot easier to unpack and go through these things oh there's a little mildly creepy one I couldn't see the eyes I thought it was just Dark Hollow but the eyes are actually there little baby doll with a whole bunch of notes and accessories and booklets in there I'll leave that packed up for now I've got some records what do we have for records Indiana Jones soundtrack Empire Strikes Back uh Star Wars trilogy still sealed from the Utah Symphony Orchestra it's funny when I think of the symphony orchestra I don't usually think Utah but hey Stand By Me soundtrack still sealed and we've got uh the E.T soundtrack in plastic and Return of the Jedi soundtrack lots of movie soundtracks not sealed parade of the Ewoks into the Trap oh that dust is still floating around in the air from before Hazard of the job look there's more books oh and a toy car it's like a 1930s template wind-up car scan a trend receiver not familiar with this uh Toy is it friction drive nope it's not friction drive it's just a little metal toy car with a tin base don't often get stumped on toy cars but that's not one that I've seen or had before here's another car in the box that's any uh AMT model kit and we'll see if it's in there oh it looks like it yep the Box description boys be good opens to the oh uh hmm trying to make out the penmanship here I think it says the the hood opens on it 1956 Fairlane Sunliner AMD Inc yep and it's got a little passenger or a driver perhaps the steering wheel has come loose but it has a steering wheel and I guess we'll put her behind the uh we'll put her behind the wheel I don't see anybody else driving this car not going to be able to go very far with the steering wheel detached but anyway it's neat that it has the original box and the the car looks like it's essentially all there oh yeah see what the lady was meant to be The Driver and she's visiting some guy who's playing Polo you know your average afternoon in 1956. okay what else do we have in this box really old cast iron toy stove from Kenton brand in Kenton is actually the same maker as the um as the Gene Autry cap gun that I had this thing looks like you could actually fire it up and make it go it looks like a real little cast iron stove it doesn't have the stack or there should be little uh um uh not pans covers that would go here for the oven so it's missing a couple parts but that's a heavy piece and it's American-made that's Kenton made they start off making stuff like this and then they ended up getting doing pretty much cap guns for a really long time that's a good early American-made piece good early toy and we've got another little stove here or 1950s she's this box is going to tip over on me if I'm not careful because I've thrown off the center of gravity there by taking all the stuff out of one side and not the other ah where's a good place to put this up over here see that it plugs in it still has the plug-in that's a 1930s looking cord so this would be like uh your first kind of Easy Bake Oven sort of idea has a heater element inside of it it's got that little cake pan you plug it in and wait and it looks like you could actually make food in your bedroom I was listening to a radio show the other day and the the girl on the radio show admitting to uh having an Easy Bake Oven but she got as far as mixing the ingredients into a pan and then she didn't bother waiting for the light bulb to heat it up she just ate it raw I don't know if there's any other confessions like that out there um but maybe this one would cook a little faster since it actually has a little heating element inside of it neat piece uh likely American-made because I'm thinking this is uh close to pre-war oil say on the bottom here Empire stove from Wisconsin early to mid 1930s yep curved legs uh yeah with a design of Pinocchio and the marks of where's Pinocchio at just see like little kids sitting the table anyway neat thing 1930s working child stove that's a cool toy and we're getting down to the bottom of the box here but we have a couple it looks like Victorian photo albums well this one says souvenir postcards West Point Hudson River above West Point Hudson River again we've got really early cards and these are yeah washroom wire rope so these are like business cards care of Mitchell Lewis and staver I wonder if this is all going to be more of these uh 1800 sort of uh advertising cards which is fine either way because they're super cool oh there's some old Christmas cards Christmas greetings so we've got Christmas cards I'm hoping to see something that's dated but get an idea I can sneak a peek at the back of this Christmas card 1900 to 1915 somebody bought it after the fact oh this is quite a quite a few antique Christmas cards in here I wonder if this whole book is Christmas or close to it lots of great artwork on these I mean these cards are old enough that they actually there would be there's postcard collectors out there that would happily buy these individually and not buy the book and so it's probably worth more money separate even though this collection probably took them and we're getting to Easter this collection probably took a really long time to put together I can say especially considering the age of these is Valentine's Day what a sweet little Keepsake book this is and then we've got some black and white photos so lots and lots of postcards and some early black and white pictures and it looks like they knew some of these people because you know when you write the name of Auntie such and such on there and we're talking uh pictures that go back a number of years likely well 1909 that one's data doing the Salem Fair 1909 that'd be Salem Oregon which I actually worked in uh Salem Oregon for a Time 1906 there we go I was guessing kind of that time Tillamook Oregon Church and there is progress Tillamook in 1875 and 1911. so I guess there's been a few more buildings put up since then I feel like I've been through Tillamook in my travels like some early Mining and logging pictures lots of great history it was the Chamber of Commerce in Portland you can see look no cars it's all carriages still when that postcard came out sightseeing in Oregon that'd be a very early vehicle again early 1900s so somebody probably from Oregon is watching this and going oh I know all those places Medical Lake Washington oh there's some Spokane and Washington images boy it is nice to find and I don't find it that often a postcard album that's just this old it looks like they made a trip through California Wells near Santa Maria California so oil wells first wooden house in California Monterey California brought by sailing vessel from Australia so that that was when the first wooden house in California was still there not much left of at that time as a landmark that kind of it's all by the wayside but interesting to have a picture of what it looked like person ever wanted to rebuild it as a historical site picture like that would be pretty handy be nice one of these days to get like a picture of the Titanic the pike is seen from the pier Long Beach well that looks like quite the ride there's like you scoot yourself up to the top maybe you go probably this way around and around and around and around and then you get to the top and a little roller coaster right on the beach Long Beach California early roller coaster stuff Chicago these people traveled around a lot there's postcards from pretty much everywhere in here wasn't this fun what a neat little book that ended up being a couple of them so far early 1900s postcards there's got to be hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of them in there too so far some pretty good finds we still have two more books to look at if you guys are up for it maybe we'll do one more because I feel like this video is getting kind of long and I might save that other book for later let's see is this the front of it yes it is uh let's see Alfreda Campbell and Colin Saint agath 1905 1906 so this is a scrapbook from 1905 so if you were wondering what was happening what life was like in America in 1905 or 1906 this is the stuff that a kid would have found uh interesting at that time so Cowboy scenes and then you've got Princess Margaret and the prince of uh Sweden and Norway so royalty Williams Seward Park playground at Canal Street and East Broadway New York it is claimed to this public playground which cost two million dollars is the best equipped in the world well that was not two million dollars well spent because I don't think that exists anymore I'm sure at the time it was quite the thing to see the lady Eileen Wellesley The Honorable Mrs Marconi it looks like somebody cut some stuff out of here South Africa after the war though that would have been um the Boer War they were likely talking about unique Railway the monorail line between belly bunion and Listowel in County Kerry Ireland the train runs suspended on a single Rail and crossings are operated by turning a short section of the rail upon a pivot as shown what's interesting never seen the uh monorail before a lot of magazines a lot of somebody's magazines were were cut up by the kids to make this scrapbook but I imagine if you weren't using it anymore and if it wasn't material that was good for wiping because let's not forget they didn't really have toilet paper until later the old magazines and newspapers were often the materials of choice the only cure for stoutness registered by the government trilene company oh the most efficient military organization in Canada sergeant major Phillips in a group of company officers why do they all look like children oh I see because it's the same Mount St Louis Lewis Cadet corpse The Duchess of Fife kind of looking as a Mermaid scene there's the sailors looking over the edge and they see a mermaid in the water but she looked like she was up to no good draw them to their Doom Princess Margaret some royal family history oh look there's a you know Automobiles of the time children of royalty Princess Victoria so how old is this you think of uh and Prince Henry of Wales Prince Albert of Wales Prince Edward it's kind of a little snapshot here a little bit everything oh and I said snapshots and it says snapshots of the Chicago Manhattan and there's a modern automobile ladies were just so elegant back then mind you overall they probably smell a little bit better now the king of Spain and his motor car this is really interesting lots of uh interesting fashion and you know historical events that were happening at the time it uh this book just keeps going and going and going with all sorts of things that were of interest to this young person whose name was in the book Penelope I think her name was so young Penelope thought that all these things were quite interesting it looks like they had some room to add extra pictures in later that they never did but they labeled each of their Pages or it was labeled in this book already a nice early 1900 scrapbook and I'll get to that book on the next episode because we still have all that to go through but just out of the one box we had tons of History the Scrapbook the antique dolls going back to the mid-1800s mid to late 1800s right up to your 1930s that's actually the newest doll so far is the 1930s reliable mountie doll complete 1930s stove we've got this the souvenir postcards they're just absolutely stunning the Tonka truck the catalog all sorts of fun interesting and unique items and that's just the beginning so if you're interested to see what's in the rest of these boxes you're going to have to tune in and subscribe if you haven't already and I'll keep going through boxes and you can see what's there um my goal with this stuff is to sell it so at some point this stuff will go up for sale but with some of the more specialized items I'll have to find the the right venue for that some of these little bits and pieces will probably go through auction in the near future but I have a feeling some of these are a little bit better than what I'm used to getting so I want to make sure that um I Market them correctly anyway pretty good haul so far today so guys thank you very much for watching today's video um I'm gonna need more tables here to start getting stuff uh cleaned up sorted and put away I'm looking forward to going through the rest of these boxes with you and I hope you enjoyed this little Adventure um I think I'm gonna go back and see if I can get more stuff because these boxes I'm emptying out so far have actually been full of really neat things so wish me luck that I actually can get some more things uh and that um you know there'll be some more interesting discoveries in future videos either way guys thanks very much for watching we'll see you all soon subscribe if you haven't already uh for more videos and more episodes as we do these unboxings from the states and uh as always of course bye for now bye everybody have a great day bye foreign
