hi i'm alex archbull and i've been buying and selling antiques since i was 9 years old from basements to scrap yards i'll look just about anywhere i can to find lost antiques and collectibles and sometimes i'll go big and buy everything i never know what's going to happen or who i'm going to meet this is our life this is our adventure and this is curiosity inc [Music] i'm home honey [Music] you know when you're about to have a really strange day and everything seems normal but you know things are gonna get really weird that's uh that's today because let's see probably i guess about a year ago or so um i met somebody who was in a house and anyway it was kind of a hoarding situation the family had been really well off at one time now the person has gone out of the home they're in a care facility now and the family was cleaning out the property and i ended up buying a few things um some nice vintage watches and cameras and things like that but um in our exploration we found that there is two safes in the house one in the basement in the office a big one and a little round barrel safe that was underneath the floor mat now um the family wasn't really you know they haven't been in it since probably the 1970s or 80s or something um so they don't have the code the parents passed away so i offered to pay for the uh locksmith to come i guess he's more of a safe cracker than a locksmith mindy probably does both anyway they're they're gonna be coming today um and opening up the safe so we're going to be doing a safe cracking video today hopefully hopefully it's not like geraldo rivera which if you don't know he had al capone safe and they open up and there's nothing in it i'm hoping i'm not going to be having one of those moments but um i'm paying 500 per safe to open these things up and um the whole goal here is that basically um i get first dibs to purchase not have but i'll get first dibs of whatever's in the safes if i pay to get them opened up now uh you might be asking yourself why are you bothering with this may you know the family must know what's in it no they don't again it was a hoarding situation the parents had passed away and let me tell you guys when i first went through this house i kid you not like and sometimes these stories sound like they're too good to be true but i walked through the house the first time i was in there when when the gentleman was still living in the house um and there was like i there was watches on the ground and i kicked one of these watches my foot and i pick it up and it was a brand new rolex datejust with the tag still on it and i'm not talking about a replica it was a brand new rolex lying on the ground and we ended up finding something something like 400 wrist watches all around the house um plus montblanc pens and um you know all sorts of fountain pens collectibles high-end cameras so the odds that there's something cool in the safe are probably pretty good um the uh the fellow ended up with dementia and so that he didn't remember what was in there or what the codes were or nobody did uh so we're gonna do a safe cracking video today i hope you find it exciting um i'm gonna head over to the house now and uh show you this safe and wait for the safe cracker guy to show up which should be in about 45 minutes [Music] well i'm here first one here i'm a little bit early the last time i was in this house i kid you not i got hives all over my whole body for like a good week i looked uh pretty spotted let me careful when i'm touching and hailing all that good stuff today hopefully it's a productive day i don't know i feel i know for sure i'm gonna be spending aka possibly wasting a bunch of money today i just hope it's gonna be worthwhile my my i guess if i'm lucky there will be like you know boxes full of old watches i'm hoping uh i don't know we'll find out we'll see inside the house it's a little dusty and dirty it's been surprisingly it's been cleared out a lot this was a mid-century modern home quite a nice one with the uh sort of nice wood paneling and the fireplace and the whole works and unfortunately it uh was filled right up when i came through here there was stuff piled all the way up and you had to walk through paths the family's been cleaning and uh now we're at the point where we're gonna go into the basement and check out the safe mind you i'm sure these mid-century modern tables and stuff still have good value in the crazy big lamp over there but we're not here for that today we're here to crack a safe open was your guess uh what was my guess i said his favorite of everything and a box of fancy cigars a box of fancy cigars so we've got some of the family and some of the friends here today so what are your guesses what might be in the safe i'm thinking skeleton a very tiny skeleton everybody every family has skeletons and you think there's an actual skeleton in there the navy well he was a doctor he was so you never know yeah we have the doctor's weigh scale right behind you there what do you think i think that he was a world traveler and he had a massive collection of coins as you know and stamps i think the finest of those might be in one of those you know what i'm hoping for you know like a stack of rolexes or some nice pens or i don't know the dad wasn't really so much into that no that was for that was for sunburn but no i mean they they traveled the world he was a physician so they were careful as it is we're poor i would think that uh probably the finest of his stamps and coins that's my bet he also bought her a lot of jewelry like every mother's day every so there could be jewelry it could be a bunch of paperwork too it could be client it could be patient information no no i don't think it'll be patient information i'm hoping it's not empty when was the last time you saw that safe open never never never and your your folks moved in here when seventies um fifties maybe around uh it would have been around seventy nineteen yeah yeah well the house is from the 50s yeah but so potentially it's been nicer brothers it was a high-end house i can tell it was quality i mean obviously um we had some other family in here that didn't take as good care of it but we're you're getting it cleaned out that that's an understatement i'm trying to be gentle with the fact that that bernie was a slob well yeah there was there were it was a hoarding situation you guys have done wonders to bring the house around i'm let's go down and have a look at the safe before the guy gets here and we can we can talk about its size and what the heck is going to be in there we thought we'd check under the mattress while we're here too because you never know while we're here anyway so i put all the fresh bedding and everything okay well that's why i thought that if nobody ever touched the mom and dad's bedroom maybe there was something under the mattress too last time i checked under a mattress that hadn't been seen in a while there's a big silver bar not the case here though nothing and under under under there may be one at my house oh really okay i'm gonna go down into the basement now you can see like the levels of kind of dirt that built up over the years from this uh having a bit of neglect and it's being brought back to life so we're going to go downstairs there's someone there okay we're just waiting for the safe guy to show up right now i don't know where all the light switches are here we go the family was actually friends with muhammad ali too so there's a did muhammad ali ever come down to this rec room did you guys ever have muhammad ali down here to the rec room uh this room was used mainly for family gatherings like christmas every christmas every christmas really and look at how the nice fireplace and all the nice wood paneling but off in this room oh that made a funny sound with me there's the office wow you guys really cleaned it out it was packed packed stacked and all that in here look at these cool 50s curtains i know i think mom took them this is one of the safes that we want to try and get cracked open right there what we should do maybe that's okay let's get the filing cabinets off of it and make it easy for this guy so we got it uh wiggled out here don't know the combination it feels a little bit sure but i still think he knew it was there it feels a little bit light hopefully the guy can i don't know what it'll do to get this thing open hopefully it's not too much of a challenge so that's safe number one that needs to be opened and if we go around the corner down this way yeah this was a i don't think anybody even realized that nobody knew this was here and the carpet was gross so i removed the carpet i'm trying to hear if i can hear anything sloshing around in there oh i guess we'll see they said this is the this is a type that's actually particularly tough to get into but i'm worried if the basements had any sort of uh moisture or water get in there whatever whatever might be inside might be uh you know not the best shape spot in the whole house okay so this probably might be it doesn't look like it's too rusty or anything the carpet was a moldy that came out of there and it's turning on all right there's a little piece of plywood over top too wasn't it and that was pretty no we're gonna try and get this one opened up as well um this barrel style safe is a little trickier to get out apparently um so the guy should be here any minute and then with luck we'll figure out what's inside the piano emma this was underneath the safe 1961 miller's book and card shop it feels good stuff there yeah it feels fairly light as of right now i'm not feeling super optimistic if it was full of treasure you'd think it would feel a little heavier but there's only one way to find out i think we just heard the doorbell ring we dragged it out of the office i should say uh grandson dragged it out of the office and uh we're gonna give this guy a little bit of room to work so as we speak right now there is a gentleman here from a safe cracking company now because you know you don't want to have everybody at home learn how to open up a safe i'm not going to be showing that portion of it on camera even though that's kind of the exciting part but you can imagine you've all seen the movies there's no stethoscope yet and you know but there's stuff happening over there um so we're hoping we're trying to get this big safe open up first um with any luck it might have the combination for the smaller safe even more luck maybe it's full of jewelry or coins or who knows what but um i guess we'll see okay he's taking a break we don't have it open just yet there's a pile of debris from drilling into it i guess he's got to pull the the the dial off and do a bunch of stuff and anyway more work has to happen on this this is what you call a fire safe so it's not um as reinforced as a regular safe would be but um it's still not easy to get into again as of right now i don't know if it's full empty or otherwise here is the update on the safe the dial is off there's some holes drilled in it still not able to get inside apparently some of you might say like well why not just knock the hinges off and of course i asked the same question if you cut the hinges off um he said there's still rods that go in both sides so even with the hinges removed it's not going to come out so we're going through the process here hopefully we get this thing opened up again um as of right now no idea if anything is inside of it a what i have code for that safe do i think so we got it to a point now where we think we can perhaps pry it open well there's a little movement he's so big he makes the safe look tiny mr six foot eight out comes the big bar well it's it's a tough little safe i'll give it that not like those turn of the century safe so those things are pretty much hopeless to open like this lasted longer than i thought it would yeah nowadays you'd have a safe it'd be like hello kitty brand or something made of plastic i'm not sure it's gonna do anything the only way to get into it would be to scan your face this is a retinal scanner or heat it up with a bic lighter and melt it i had a safe come to the store once i bought it from the old veterinary hospital and they said oh we don't know the combination and i was like oh man i wonder if there's anything in it and i get it and it was really it was smaller than this but there's no way you could have lifted it it was so heavy it must have been like 500 pounds or something stupid from the old veterinary general hospital yeah yeah and i get it in the store and it falls over on its side and uh i look in the bottom and the bottom had been cut out by somebody at some point and i was like oh okay well there's nothing inside of it um but it was so heavy i had to like i couldn't lift it on my own to get it upright i had to devise like this whole leveraging system of boards and ramps and yeah never want to buy a safe ever you're not one of those old ones they look cool but they're they're heavy really giving her because one of us could sit where your foot is yeah it's just i don't know but for life let's go i don't want to hurt anybody ever have a breaker bar go flying into somebody's back for sure that i can hear the croc cracking and popping of whatever's inside either that or it's this gentleman's spine ocean's 11 moment happening here yeah he's not wearing a tuxedo though almost see a peeky hole opening up in there i'm sure that's not the professional technical term not quite but close enough hey getting there no he said if i'd we offered to help but he doesn't want to accidentally bump into us or have something go wrong getting some different leverage on it now you just feel like any moment that door is gonna pop open well i was saying like even uh even if it's envelopes or something you never know what's inside right but it could just it could very well be empty mind you even uh jewelry inside of jewelry bags it wouldn't make noise because it'd be like in soft felt sort of bags already vague like in the front of a book that was yeah this said no combination and that's you know potentially shut for what 40 40 years or 30 years well we found one thing that we thought was the combination but really what it was was somebody's eyeglass yeah their prescription yeah i remember that it was probably something we were really hopeful though we were hopeful it's just weird that he didn't tell me pretty much in one pin give him a bunch of grief look at the size of that yeah but if he can get it yeah it might be the pins on the back side i know i wish i could help but yeah well he's got i can see the top of the pin now and see how he said you could very easily hurt yourself hey we've got enough of a hole there we're gonna just peek inside see if there's anything in there if it's worth even continuing and i'm i'm thinking it looks like it's empty i'm pretty sure it's empty anyway upside down and see so safe number one uh partially bust open we didn't want him to break his back anymore watch your fingers on the metal and stuff there you're just shaking it to see if there's any yeah just to see if that shelf moved yeah i'm not seeing much of anything inside there kevin have you worked on safes like that so uh a bust safe number one a bus so so far safe number one was empty disappointing sure um but we still have one more safe to go that's the floor safe and you'd think that if you're gonna put some valuables some jewelry and stuff in there that might be the one that you do it and um so we're gonna let him work his magic um i'm gonna poke around while i'm here too because there's opportunities for me to find some other cool stuff that might be kind of hidden around in cupboards and that so we'll do a little uh adventuring and see if i can find some other collectibles to make today somewhat worthwhile while he's getting ready to open the barrel safe downstairs it's going to take a few minutes i've decided to come and scrounge around in the garage and last time i was here i found an old train set and other various things but there was so much to go through i couldn't see it all with some old tarps oh and here's a variety of well some tools in books so there's a nice little handy little uh saw a little jigsaw there has been mice and stuff in here primary care of infectious diseases i might need that book after going through this place because you never know what you're gonna find until you come and look they've been busy throwing stuff out from inside the house this reminds me of the sled that uh clark griswold went down the hill on it's the exact same type of sled you guys remember that and christmas vacation he sprayed his company uh lubricant all over the back of it you know maybe there's um not a whole pile of stuff in here but i do see some uh vintage cigar tins la palina cigartens those are worth picking up cal brand baking soda that's an oldie even the cow is old-fashioned looking this looks like a little paint gun a little sprayer there's all sorts of old medical equipment federal communications commission what is this cable drum band master surgery cable drum cable drive medical tool this is a little doctor's cabinet national cautery control looks like a train transformer but i know it's not holding and sterilizing equipment and stuff oh it's an old oil can interview with near some german books i wonder if the mice that were in here were german too well i'm just looking at some old german books they were being read last by some old german mice i will grab these cans though that's old skis wooden skis good decorative pieces some old reels nice little bait bakelite reel yeah i'll use those i'll put those in my alex pile and my these weren't in a safe but they still were found decide to do a little exploration in the attic of the garage to see if there's anything up there found this old wood ladder which seems like i might die on it i laugh but it's true oh let's see i'm standing back while i move this because i don't want to end up with a bunch of squirrel debris or whatever oh there is some stuff up there oh yeah one of those old spring horses way at the back i'd be pretty motivated to get that thing i might climb over and see if i can reach up there i'm going up i'm sticking my head in here even out no i need a light there we go kid spring horse old lawn chairs a little uh looks like a little baby chair and on this side that's an old sled i'm going up one more step looks like a gas can out of a car i don't know what that looks like a gas tank okay what's in the box squirrels have been in it trying to move it pine cones every african pine cones oh it's just bored or like flooring and an old kid's ride on toy well no holy grail up here i little kids uh you know i'll see if i can turn around this is what i'm standing on guys this ladder amongst a bunch of bags of unknown pokey trash bags this looks like a little kid's lawnmower it's kind of cute gong bell made in usa i'll bring it down for them i don't see the i don't know where the handle is for it maybe this is it you think it'd be a small little handle i don't think that's it well i'm going to bring this down anyway at least i can say i conquered something from up here yeah someone's gonna cry seeing this cool mid-century modern i think that's teak the legs are busted off that is like a swinging high fashion 60s chair unfortunately it's all busted apart right now not that it couldn't be fixed but well i joked about this being a geraldo rivera moment and it was but there's still one more safe to go that was an awful lot of effort i just told him once we could see inside there we had that little hole he said you know another 5 10 minutes he would have had it open completely there's no point it's just garbage anyway so on to the next all these little broken bits and pieces so if you have a safe in your house make sure you pass along the combination to your family so they don't get a youtuber to to pay to open it to find out that it's empty um we'll see what happens with the next one and uh like i said there's there's a bunch of other stuff in the house i was able to kind of grab while i was here too that's a cool hanging lamp actually you know oh and it works swag lamp swaggy still working on the safe downstairs i've come upstairs to explore a little bit i found this pink brady bunch wallpapered bathroom check out this floral pattern wallpaper bum bum anyway you gotta have some fun while you're waiting look sink's pink you know what you need you need the pink package cupboards pink countertop pink bathtub pink everything pink well i guess we know what their favorite color was i might do the downstairs more than green well i just got some i got some bad news from um the safe cracker the locksmith um where is the light here this particular floor safe um is a really really good one and that's great if you have your combination but it's terrible if you don't because after spending over an hour trying to drill through it the steel was so hard he said it was probably like about uh an inch of hardened steel on the lid could not get into it so this one for now will remain a mystery but after having the um the i guess disappointment of not getting much out of the other safe i don't know if there's gonna be really anything in there anyway but um the good news is uh that because that one he didn't get open all the way and this one he couldn't get into i thought i was gonna have to spend a thousand bucks a day opening up safes for this video he charged me nothing so to the good people at action lock and safe thank you for the effort um that fellow worked really really hard to try and get in there um i on the other hand i'm gonna try and um make lemonade out of lemons and i'm gonna search around this house and see if there's a few things i can buy to still probably make some profit on so i'm gonna load up uh my treasures and we'll get home we'll do an unboxing there and i'll show you guys what i found well that could have been a big bust today opening up that safe and it almost cost me a thousand bucks but luckily it cost me zero uh because the guy was just super nice really um that said it was time out of my day i decided to make it worthwhile by buying a few things from around the house so let me show you some of the stuff i found in the living room i was able to come across a set of audiophile vintage heco german speakers i don't know if i'm saying that right h-e-c-o hicko heco anyway these are high-end top-notch speaker system with the uh hard to find center speaker oh it's a complete set very very nice also were these 50s mid-century modern fiberglass shade lamps these would be like for your nightstand or for your table obviously because they're not very big you wouldn't put them on the floor but look they've got the original shades wiring is all good just a cute little set and in great shape and i picked up a couple boxes of things which we're going to go through next this bag we appear to have a whole pile of pennants which are fun you know travel pendants from going all over the place oh that's a cool one from the grey cup game 1955 that's a good local piece for our football team glacier national park anything that's more like um unusual like you find a lot that are related to towns or cities of course in canada we see a lot of pennants that have mounties and these great wilderness scenes on them hot springs yukon capilano bc grand coulee dam in washington to see all the different places they went to england there might be a couple uh unusual ones in there where's that from saltier great salt lake you float like a cork sunshine ski i want to go through these and see if there's any that really stand out empire state building that's kind of a cool one tallest man-made structure in the world so you know that was a while ago when it still held that record hot springs or some lakes from our area that's fun stuff overall it's typically sell for you know five to 20 bucks each if it's a good one sometimes more like the um the edmonton football one will go for a bit more if they have a date on it like this 56 that'll be a little bit more desirable neat this is the variety i thought was a little bit more cool the clyde beatty circus grand prairie alberta with this great cowboy on the bucking bronc calgary alberta famous for the stampede and you've got that indigenous chief empire state building and of course the uh football we got the edmonton eskimos from then we've got the patch for your jacket the junior quarterback patch and the 1955 grey cup game and empire stadium both good early pieces of football history in our area and remember how i said that the fellow whose house we were in had been um a doctor well he was also it's an interesting story he was a german fellow that immigrated to canada during just before the war just around the time of the war and joined the allied forces against the germans so he was a german guy fighting against the germans and here we go recruits wanted here's the original recruitment poster looks like pulled right off the wall at some point god saved the king and what were they paying them recruits required to be ages of 18 and 45 not less than five foot three sorry if you're a shorty i guess not less than 33 and a half inch in chest measurements good eyesight and sound in other respects a dollar ten per day separation allowance survives 20 per month you're not getting paid a whole lot to go and fight in the uh fighting the war are you anyway it's kind of a neat piece that that's still there hear ye hear you all 49ers oh this is the first great calling of origins world war one okay so this is obviously second world war neat thing though and so we had that and we also ended up with his scrapbook his military scrapbook so he was in the 23rd company royal canadian army medical corps and we've got his whole scrapbook this is after the war i guess 55 rcamc school so lots of military pictures training happening presentations being made i think that's him there just really neat bits of history and nice to be able to save some of this history too you know commanding medical officers health and recreation committees like all these original photos look these are national defense photographs these are actual official military pictures these aren't just ones that he took so some pretty neat stuff in here really a little uh sign of what was happening in the second world war so we got this which is pretty neat and another neat item the uh edmonton home of the grey cup another football piece from probably the 50s as well i've not seen that one before i was to go on your license plate somebody who visited the empire state building probably when they got that uh pennant at the same time 1956 new york july 1956 and they also went to united nations and got their pins there too oh here's the grey cup souvenir program so clearly they went to the grey cup game keep all the football stuff together it's like i'm reliving all of their old family memories boxing postcards who do we have james montgomery flag and jack jack dempsey knocks out jess willard 1919. well that's an old one there's a few of them too historic match pretty cool support to civil defense the 23rd medical company militia so clearly he still stayed in service throughout the 1950s looks like there's all kinds of maps and brochures i guess these are probably like if this must have been just around the time of the cold war so they're probably worried that things could happen again and they were preparing for it even in our neck of the woods we've got all these maps and everything mobile medical command i guess where they're planning on placing their medical offices and so forth if they needed to i remember how i was talking about the calgary stampede a couple minutes ago well this is a little uh cartoon book that was given out at the stampeder that you'd purchase dated 1949 it's called things they saw at the stampede so a bunch of guys having difficulty with their horse chuck wagons flying off the track which actually does happen can be kind of a dangerous event so there's a whole little book of cartoons cartoon pictures from the calgary stampede from 1949 that's pretty neat even has the original holder for it too the booklet i didn't think i ended up with any medical equipment but i look in this case here and i've got a rimmer otoscope which is one for looking inside of your ear basically got your little attachments you probably had a doctor stick one of these in there at one point in your life and this looks like the little uh maybe that's a little vacuum pump to clean things out kind of neat though it's a special little velvety case it's a nice antique autoscope how to win friends and influence people by dale carney very famous book the pocket edition this book is still a top seller this is one of the most famous royal canadian army medical corps so it was given as a gift and what edition is this pocketbook edition published 1940 so pretty neat a couple of books on canadians at war two volumes volume one and two and what do we have here what is this it's kind of a cool well kind of a weird piece it's a german and it looks like it's some kind of shock therapy thing but in fact what it is it's a power supply for a portable flash for your camera and it's the deutsche electronic ultra blitz matador one which is this heavy bakelite case i mean heck i don't i mean it doesn't have the flash with it i must have missed it there it was probably there at some point but i do have the case at least that's kind of cool of course i end up getting the old tobacco tins and filled them up with the old fishing reels because i thought that was cool a whole bunch of these um old tourist cards from all over the place looks like mainly germany another travel postcard stat must go back a few years abacia nice little set a little balkan smoking mixture this i picked up because i ended up recently with a bunch of watches i didn't get any today at least i got the box for a nice old bulova which i'm sure i have a bowl of a that will fit in there nicely here you go the canadian army emergency rations to be consumed only with no other rations of any kind not to be open except by the order of an officer and it never was maybe i'll save this into an unboxing video of opening a world war ii canadian ration tin that'd be kind of neat and i think that was there too non-mercurial plate powder silverware polish still sealed the weird stuff you find i wish i had a way to play this look royal canadian rc amc so the this is the his core that he was in wainwright 1958-59 uh warfare schemes um this is all like cold war missions and stuff on film of course luckily they never needed to use them but i got the original footage you see he was fairly high ranking there's your rc amc royal canadian army medical corps badge for the front of your car that'd go on the the grill or the bumper bar if you're an officer or something like that national defense act book and early looking military pictures postcard is german okay from the first war it's pretty neat some little uh postcards for christmas cards and so forth so kind of a neat little variety of stuff at the end of the day oh and i guess i have one more box here too his son who ended up staying in the house and uh ultimately ended up kind of destroying the house as a child had built model kits and as an adult had uh collected toy cars and so there's a box with some various little toy cars and things i was more interested to be honest in the um the old 1950s and 60s model kits that were built because um well i mean they're not super easy to come by especially in half decent shape i'll go through that and see what there is looks like an opal yeah i think it is or capri cute little car and a receipt for something for music i got a whole box of toy cars or model kits anyway and i have a customer or client who's always looking for stuff like that so even though the safe was empty i ended up with a pretty good haul there is one more thing though as i was digging through the papers and the cards the bottom of the pile i found this this is a 1939 churchman's cigarette kings of speed uh tobacco card and it's jesse owens of course monumental figure in sports history um dominated uh at the berlin olympics and um this is a phenomenal piece of history now i do believe it's original it's got a little smudge up at the top there which wasn't me but there is a little smudge up at the top even in this condition which is not bad this is still probably like a 200 trading card important figure uh it's historical and it's kind of a rare piece so really cool find for the end of the day and although this house didn't produce much for me today it's produced a lot of good stuff for me in the past like i said three or four hundred high-end wrist watches pocket watches um coins all kinds of stuff have come out of that house over the last couple years for me so i had high hopes that the safe would be the one place to keep all the good stuff apparently not probably because they didn't have the keys or the the code for it um i guess not keys they didn't have the combination for it but i still will expect to probably make about a 400 profit off of today's items which is still in my books a good day especially considering i didn't open the safe you can imagine i'd be at a 600 loss even after selling all this stuff so thanks for watching today's video guys i hope you liked our little exploration our hunting or picking and uh stay tuned for more there's always something going on in this channel if you haven't subscribed make sure to subscribe we have a backlog of i don't know probably six or 800 videos of me doing crazy weird cool stuff so check out those videos too we'll see y'all soon and bye for now [Music]
