[Applause] befriended amen a happy sabbath church it's that time of the day again when we have to pray and before we pray i saw something that's very interesting in a group that i'm in it comes from exodus 14 15. it says and the lord said to moses why do you cry to me tell the children of israel to go forward we are not to sit calm we are not to sit in calm expectancy of oppression and tribulation and fold our hands doing nothing to avoid evil let our united christ be sent up to heaven pray and work work and pray but let none act rashly learn as never before that you must be meek and lowly in heart let us pray the family we will be praying for this week is a testament family shall we kneel down and pray our father in heaven would like to come before your throne and lord at this time would like to come to you acknowledging that in this difficult time maybe we have been praying and sitting and folding our hands inexpectancy and not going forward we like to ask that you help us to realize you give us the strength to go forward you give us the strength to be people who take action we as a church are going through this difficult time we as a world are going through this difficult time of the pandemic everything seems to better stand still or everything seems to have gone backwards but we like to ask that you give us a strength you open up our minds that we are able to go forward i pray for all the people that are sick in the intensive cares in the hospitals struggling with this pandemic i pray that your healing hand will rest upon them and you will help them to recover that we have lots of family members who have been touched by this pandemic we have lots of family members who are struggling to recover from this pandemic i pray for those people that you might be with them and lord this pandemic has also taken away beds to those of our family members and friends and everyone out there who might need those elective surgeries lord it's a difficult time for everyone lord i also pray for those people like that as they wait and they hold on to their dear lives that you continue to be with them that you give them the strength to persevere that you you heal and that you touch and that miracles happen those lord for those people who might be waiting for surgery this pandemic lord has affected us in many ways it has affected our employment it has affected our lives as families i pray for those people who might be quarantining like now lord and uh feeling all alone that your holy spirit will visit with them and do tabernacle with them on this sabbath day and that they will know that they are not alone that you are walking through through this with them i pray for us as a church order is not admitted in church that you also help us to continue to go forward lord there is so many things that we have planned we have a building that we're trying to put up i pray that you come in lord and you take care of the situation and you provide all the finances you open up all the doors and you help us to go forward in this regard i pray for the children in this church lord that you continue to be with them as they have started school guide them lord protect them but remind them who they are it's a difficult time and they might be facing new challenges a lot but continue to remind them that they are your children and that they are the people that you you're bringing up to finish your work i pray for the preacher of the taylor that as he speaks may his words come from you lord and may not may not be his words but your words i pray for um all of us lord that you cleanse us of all our sins and forgive us of all our unrighteousness i pray all this in your loving and preacher's name amen storage a warm welcome to all my friends from the lower division i see a number of us in here this morning and if you are also joining us this morning online welcome to you as well it's that time when we look going to the bible again and check out the children's story today i got i ran through uh some of my readings and uh i came across a familiar story so this is a story i'd like to share with all of us this morning so you you you know in the book of exodus they're uh just a brief overview of uh some of the things that are happening in the book of exodus so we have the children of israel finally coming out of egypt right you you know the children of israel were slaves in egypt right for a long time so they it came the time when the lord wigged you know the lord wagged in a mighty way and he brought them out so finally they were going out of egypt no more slavery no more hard work no more what we can call in today's language no more craziness okay so the children of israel were out they were going so started out you know maybe someone was carrying a bag you know a duffel bag that there's toys in there maybe someone was carrying it well let's just see what do you carry today like maybe you're carrying your your your your gadget you know with your games on it but you know they were they were carrying whatever was relevant to them at that time they had it and they were going out to the promised land and everybody was happy in their hearts they were they were they were exceedingly joyful exceedingly glad right if ever you were there was a day if you were happy in your life just imagine the children of israel were even that much more happier because finally they had left egypt no more pharaoh no more uh burning bricks with uh with with hay with grass and no more hard work they were finally out of egypt so they traveled they traveled and guess what they came up to the red sea hey what's going on here how how how are we going to cross hey moses is there bought around here like how do we cross here what's man did you have a plan see like we as human beings do that very quickly by the way complaining oh my goodness and someone was crushing he said oh man what are we going to do and somebody just looked back and what was behind them the egyptians pharaoh pharaoh coming back at them oh my goodness moses look pharaoh's coming for us and somebody from the other corner there i told you moses you should have left us in egypt man look at that what's look at that now we're gonna die here man like moses what's going on man what's going on like why why why you know like it's it was like day and night one moment they were happy to come out of egypt they're praising the lord and they're happy the next moment moses say hey come on man what's going on moses like what are you doing you're gonna get us killed up here that is what was happening at the time right i like the verse uh exodus 14 verse four let me read it quickly to you is a very short verse right it says the lord shall fight for you and he shall hold your peace okay you shall hold your peace so if it's in today's language like hey come on man relax okay the lord the lord's got this okay relax the lord has it the lord knows the lord's gonna fight for it that's what the verse is talking about so guess what the lord did in short so the lord separated the sea and made the children of israel walk through this red on dry ground that's that's pretty amazing right it's pretty amazing and so look at this the lord opens up this path for his children he's like go go through cross and again before one time they were complaining now they yeah yeah yeah let's go let's go let's go come on bro let's go let's they they crossed and the egyptians look oh there's a way we're going to cross too now it is very dangerous boys and girls to follow if the way is not for you and you follow that way and the way is not made for you right you see very dangerous what is for you is for you what is not for you don't don't just just leave it alone man leave it alone so the lord made a way for his people and they crossed egyptians they did the lord they didn't they were not god's people the egyptians but they wanted to walk in the way of god's people they wanted to enjoy what god had prepared for his people so they jumped in let's go let's go follow them and the lord caused a big problem for them so they were in chariots right you know chariots with horses and they are busy the wheels came off oops now they've got some delays maybe they are not uh are not responding to the to the commands of the of the horse rider and the horses just just stopped moving everything just just broke that they were not moving and they were right in the middle of the sea still on greg on dry ground but in the middle of the sea the children of israel crossed over and we know what happened there and the wall of water i don't know how tall it was but that wall just caved in and drowned all of them you see the lord has promised whatever it is if we have a problem at school you need to understand something whether it's your math what whether it's your social studies and you need to understand something all you need to do is let the lord know before i'm just picking up an example of school because we just got got back to school all of us myself included i won't tell you what i'm studying but so you see so we we we have to ask so these difficulties in life whatever if there is a friend of yours that is not being nice to you that is mean to you you don't have to fight that friend you got to tell the lord that i have a friend here who's bugging me all right the same goes for the adults we might have situations in life we don't know what your situation is you know it but if you can only tell it to the lord he made a way for israel he will make a way for you and you and me and all of us here this is our story this morning that whatever we experience in life let us remember exodus 14 14 the lord shall fight for you and ye shall hold your peace don't fight your battles he said he will fight for you okay so this is our story this morning i hope you can be blessed let us bow our heads and pray father in heaven we thank you this morning for the gift of life and for the reminder that all the battles that we have are not for us to fight and that you may we ask that you may remind us each and every day that whatever bells we have we bring them to you not take them upon ourselves not take them to our friends but bring them to you for you have promised in your word that you will fight them for us we pray and thank you for this reminder this morning in jesus name amen have a blessed sabbath happy sabbath church happy saturday today i will be reading matthew 18 to 20 verse 20 chapter 28 verses 18 to 20. and jesus came and spoke to them saying all authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth go therefore and make disciples of all the nations baptizing them in the name of the father and the son and the holy spirit teaching them to observe all things i have commanded you and lo i am with you always even to the end of the age amen there ends the reading of the lord's word oh [Music] of is is calling to the heart that's calling you [Music] lil is march when god is in it let me [Music] if you go in jesus name [Music] it is little is much when god is in it [Music] if you go in jesus name [Music] he will say [Music] is much when god is [Music] [Music] if you go if you go in jesus i'll make an introduction of a speaker today the title of his sermon is destruction and the theme is evangelism pastor pedro grassa he is a pastor for 26 years and within his 26 years 24 of those years he he worked in various churches in the marintine conference he is presently married his wife is key she's sitting right there they have five children the five g's i put it that way i i don't put it any way to mean bad the five j's jonathan joshua jordan justin and joelle [Music] so he also no pastor in cameroon's and riley churches this is my brief introduction of pastor pedro if there's anything more about himself during the sermon i guess he'll break in and give you something so at this time let us prepare ourselves and sit back receive what pastor peter has to give us from the man himself jesus christ pastor peter sears happy sabbath amen it's good to come together it's good to praise the lord and hear praises beautifully presented as we did this morning so far i grew up with a father that enjoyed life he still does and because he enjoyed life he wanted to make life joyful and good natured teasing and little pranks were not uncommon and i learned then and that that experience has been very useful in many other places in my life i learned that especially when you're sitting at the table and dessert is in front of you and somebody tells you look over there you shouldn't look because by the time you look back your dessert may be gone i know in our home sometimes the boys would say oh look over there what is it a distraction and something would be missing we live in a world where distractions are extremely common [Music] in the mid and early 1800s there were lots of distractions taking place two specially that i would like to mention to you that i suspect that you probably are aware of i would like to spend a little time on them because i think they're very important not just at that time but they've become very important to our society even today one was started by a gentleman that most of you probably have heard of by the name of charles darwin charles darwin looked at nature around him hindi determined that you know everything just kind of evolved from very little or nothing and we became what we are from [Music] lower form beings if you want to put it that way that little by little developed evolved and we became what we are today i guess i wonder what we will become because evolution couldn't have stopped and there's got to be something more but the reality and i think this is probably one of the key issues with this premise is we are just a biological reality and nothing else if we are only a biological reality and nothing else our lives are lived just for the purpose of surviving and moving on to the next step and i think that we can see that in our society today the purpose is for me to get ahead even if it means that i have to step over you to reach my goals wouldn't you say no matter what the final outcome is the purpose is for me to advance and when i say for me it is for every individual to advance no matter what the consequences to others would be because we are just a being a an assemblage of cells and proteins and whatever else with no ultimate purpose in life another interesting theme that came into play around that time was one started by two gentlemen one by the name of karl marx and the other one frederick engels they rocked the world with their communist manifesto it's very interesting because at the basis of communism there is a very good message we are all equal and we all should share everything in common that almost sounds like the early church in the book of acts wouldn't you say i heard once a very interesting definition you know comparison between communism and capitalism capitalism is the exploitation of man by men right communism is exactly the opposite did you get it it's the same thing just done differently the ideals of communism have merit to them but the reality of communism is where a few control the masses and the masses become totally unimportant have no value other than being part of a machine to produce and to support a few god knew about all these things god knew about these philosophical ideas about these theories and he had a plan too he had a plan for his people to not be lost in the confusion of distractions and god had a message for his people and if you recall in the first half of the 1800s there was a group of people especially one man who motivated it by the name of william miller that started studying the scriptures in a very interesting and profound way and started discovering something that was extremely important by the way he wasn't the only one there were a few individuals in other parts of the world that started preaching the same message or a very similar message the message was god has a plan for his people and jesus is coming soon that was a message for those days right only for those days there was a slight misunderstanding a problematic one they understood the message to mean that jesus is coming on a specific date at a specific time to be precise october 22nd 1844. 1844 october 22 has come and gone and jesus hasn't come yet but that message woke up the world in ways that we cannot ignore because it started sharing with the world a powerful message of the love of god for his people and his desire to reunite them with him not that that message had never been preached but it had been forgotten god would not allow the world to remain without witness to him and that is why that message was preached so powerfully with such powerful impact i would like to invite you to open your bibles in the book of revelation revelation chapter 14. you're familiar with these texts i am sure you are chapter 14 of revelation contains what fire me the three angels message powerful messages let's begin reading from verse six then i saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth to every nation tribe tongue and people let's stop there for a moment it is very very critical that we understand a few elements here this is a powerful message but i've heard many people here on earth preach powerful messages i have heard people draw crowds behind them by the thousands and i can think of a few jim jones does that mean name ring a bell a man who drew thousands behind him in guyana gathered them in a compound and when they realized when he realized that he was about to be caught because of there were other things other than the message that he preached that he did you probably heard the expression of drinking the kool-aid they all were poisoned and died together i can think of another one by the name of david koresh if you remember in waco texas quite a few years ago he had gathered a crowd and they had a compound and they were fortified and they were preaching the last days message but they were it all ended up in a big fire and most of them were lost and there are many others who preach powerful messages but where do these messages come from this message is told to us it comes by an angel flying in the midst of heaven having the everlasting gospel this message comes from heaven from god directly it's not just somebody that came up with it this is god's message to his people and he's preaching the everlasting gospel the gospel is good news i was monitoring what was going what was going on in newfoundland last night i don't know if you were aware of it but larry went to visit hurricane and we can look back just a few days to louisiana where another one hit we can look a little further to haiti where hurt an earthquake and a hurricane and the list goes on of troubles that we experience bad news constantly but god has good news for us this morning in some school we were talking about rest and i think the consensus that it wasn't so much about laying down and not doing anything as it was about what we experience in our hearts when we are at peace even when everything around us is in turmoil good news because we live in a world that is falling apart but we know this isn't the end of the story the good news is that jesus delivers us from sins penalty by faith in his shed blood and resurrection we are delivered from the guilt and grip of sin we have a lot of trouble and turmoil in our world but one of the biggest problems you look at people you look at the health care system and i'm not talking about covid right now but we look at a lot of health problems that people experience and they are stress related and what i'm talking about stress related i'm not just talking about the rat race that we live every day trying to get from point a to point b and get everything done i'm talking about the burdens that we carry in our hearts the mental health system is struggling because so many people deal with turmoil in their hearts because of experiences in their past because of abusers suffered because of perceived abuses because of everything that they have lived has set them off and people are depressed people are struggling people are suffering because they carry burdens in their hearts jesus has come to take those away that is good news but as we continue reading we see that the angels the angel comes and he's saying with a life loud voice fear god and give glory to him that word fear i grew up in portugal and one of the traditions that there is there is during the during mardi gras i know most of you are familiar with that people would dress up and put masks on and go around and you know play visit other people and just kind of play around foolishly i remember i don't know exactly how old i was i was probably around 10 11 somewhere around there and i knew these people we might my brother and my sister and i we the kids had gone to bed already and somebody came knocking on the door and there was a couple friends of the family that had came by masks and all kind of stuff and just to say hi knock on the door and because we were already in bed we didn't see them at the door because of course we couldn't see from our bedroom but oh we want to see too we want to see too we realized that something was going on and we wanted to be part of it so they walked in and walked into our bedroom and i remember i don't remember exactly what they looked like but i remember the fear i experienced to see those faces that weren't real of course but it was a terrifying experience for me and when we read this text and we talk about fearing god i think sometimes people misunderstand this word because god is not one to be afraid of god is not one to be terrified about on the contrary he has done everything to try to reunite us with him he has done everything to try to restore a relationship with him keep your finger in there in revelation 14. we're going to come back but i just want to read the text with you in isaiah 65 real quick isaiah chapter 65. the very beginning of the chapter i was sought by those who did not ask for me this is god speaking through isaiah i was sought by those who did not ask for me i was found by those who did not seek me i said here i am here i am to a nation that was not called by my name i have stretched out my hand all day long to a rebellious people does this seem like a scary god it is someone who is making every effort to have his people come close the picture i see in my mind when he says i said here i am to a nation we didn't call by my name it the picture i have is of someone driving down the road and all of a sudden there was someone standing in the middle of the road waving his arm saying i'm here i'm here stop don't keep looking any further i'm right here so when we read revelation chapter 14 verse 7 and the text says fear god and give him glory what are we talking about it is not fear of being being afraid it is being in awe of a mighty mighty god the god who by the way he continues to say worship him who made the heavens and the earth the sea and the springs of water the god who created everything from nothing i love i still do by the way playing with legos anybody here likes legos just one i still do it's i love it because you can give free reign to your imagination and build whatever comes to mind you just have to right find the right pieces and create the right shapes right but i have to have the lego pieces to create anything god didn't have to use any lego or anything else he just spoke and it came into existence that is awesome i'm sorry but when that somebody has that kind of power i have to wow take a step back and just admire and behold and just be in awe of that kind of a god fear god recognize that he is great and you are nothing fear god because he has the ability to do anything but yet he chooses to only do what is loving and ultimately would bring us to an eternal relationship with him fear god and give him glory don't just stay in the off stage no proclaim it give him glory by your words and by your actions let people know what he's like worship him who made heaven in the earth by the way do you see now where the distractions start coming in and the importance of these distractions if we were not created by god then god is irrelevant or in existence non-existent and if he is non-existent so is right and wrong and if there's no right and wrong nobody can tell me what to do nobody can criticize me for doing something because there's no right or wrong it's all up to me i don't know if you've heard this but you know what the truth is right i think we all know what the truth is but we live again in a society where the truth has become relative your truth is not my truth because truth is what i accept as real sometimes i like to tell people that's really what it is then jump off the top of the tower and see if gravity is true or false of course nobody's going to do that that would be silly but sometimes we deal with things that are even more important than gravity when it comes to our spiritual eternal life we play with it even more loosely than we would with gravity the importance of recognizing god as our creator shapes so much in our lives worship him who made heaven and earth the sea and the springs of water lift him up when we're talking about worshiping god we're not just talking about coming to church and singing praises to god [Music] worshiping him takes place when i behave in a way that brings honor and glory to him i read something yesterday evening that shouldn't have been a surprise most of you have heard and possibly even met pastor mark johnson he's the president of the sda church in canada he wrote an interesting piece he posts a little devotional on facebook i think on a weekly basis pointing out simplicity of the gospel you know the golden rule do unto others as you would like them to do unto you take care of those in need make sure that you are reflecting the character the loving character of god doctrine is important worship in the church setting is very important as well but if my life is not reflecting god's presence in a practical manner and sometimes that practical manner makes us a little uncomfortable sometimes we totally miss the importance of the real and true gospel but the text goes on verse 8 another angel followed and again if it is another angel we can just assume that it's coming from the same source this message is from god as well and it said babylon is fallen the great city because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication confusion babylon that's what the word means talking about confusion and not just talking about confusion in society i'm talking about confusion in the church confusion among christians but in confusion within god's church within our church there are very attractive and very appealing teachings within our church but all they do and i i need to be careful with this because not all attractive and appealing teachings are false but there are some that seem really good but they just go a little too far god is a god of love and there's no doubt about it but as any parent would know loving our children means that we make sure that they don't do what isn't right for their protection we talk about god's law being for our protection it's not just that god arbitrary said i don't want you to do these things no he prevents he he tries to prevent us from doing what is harmful to us as a people as a society because he knows what is good because he is good so confusion creeps in to the church to try to paint god in a slightly different light and this is where i think we start seeing the nature of god's enemy very clearly what happens in a church when someone starts teaching something that is a little bit just a little bit off from what the scripture says division starts growing in today's society and this is in very practical terms in today's society should we vaccinate or not vaccinate should we mask or not mask should we or shouldn't we and brothers and sisters this is a very real problem and i'm not saying that these things are not important but look at this what satan has achieved he has managed to create division in the church i'm not here to tell you what is right and is wrong this is something that you need to sort out between you and god but i know and i see that satan has created seized the opportunity to create the vision within the church and by the way when we have the vision within the church where is our focus inside in us we start arguing about the fact that brothers so and so did not wear masks to church and they should know better and then brother so-and-so was wearing a mask he should know better he should trust god you know the arguments come in all forms and shapes and all kinds of directions satan knows how to keep us distracted the message in the 1800s was jesus is coming soon my grandfather i remember him telling me he was in these early 80s he became a seventh adventist when he was i believe 16 years old and i remember him telling me you know sometimes i wonder i have wondered have i been waiting all this time for something that is never going to happen have i been misled because from the inside from all the time when he was baptized the message was jesus is coming soon but he was now in his early 80s and jesus hadn't come yet but he said but i know i know that his promise is real and he will come he passed away in 1989 i'm still waiting i believe you are still waiting because you're here i believe that you have that hope that jesus is coming again soon i would like to be able to tell you how soon soon is but i don't know none of us knows jesus himself said the day and the hour no one knows only the father the father sent the son he sent the son to come to die on the cross for you and me not just you and me for everyone else and this planet jesus died for everybody not no exceptions to redeem us from our sin to restore us to a relationship with him because he wants you and me and everyone else his desire is that everyone would be saved and none would be lost but how would anyone be saved if they don't know how would anyone be saved they don't know that jesus is real and that what he did is real not just real in the fact that he died on a cross but that his blood his blood that he shed on that cross is sufficient for you and for me you are aware of what is happening beginning at the end of october impact 2021 we have an evangelistic series that is going to be taking place here in edmonton pastor bill santos i believe most of you are familiar with him will be speaking he will be preaching the message of god's love for us the message of the soon coming of jesus he will be sharing god's character god's love for us how many people are going to benefit from that from those messages how will they know if nobody tells them but more than that how will they know unless people that they trust people that not only they trust but that they respect for their integrity for their honesty for their kindness for a character that is attractive and appealing if people like that exist and invite them there is a very strong possibility that they would be interested because if jesus has made that difference in your life i want to know him too i have known people who can preach the 28 fundamental beliefs backwards and forwards but i really wouldn't enjoy sitting with them because doctrine is important but the greatest and most important reality in our lives is jesus christ in our hearts if jesus is not seen in me if my behavior puts people off if my behave behavior annoys people offends people pushes them away what how am i going to tell them about jesus so ultimately when it comes to sharing the gospel i must not be a distraction we live in a world that already has plenty of distractions because the focus in our society is everywhere else but on eternal matters in general the focus is mostly on things that divide us rather than on things that bring us together unless i'm sure that you know somebody somebody that you just there's just something about them that makes you feel comfortable and at peace in their presence do you know somebody like that at least one person somebody who's kind who is there for you who has such a pleasant and attractive personality that you feel you feel good in their presence and i dared to advance the idea that more than likely this is someone who is very close to jesus sometimes it's not as much what we say but how we are jesus was merciful patient the children loved him somebody that is always negative and it is always telling you that you gotta straighten up or do it right those are not the people that the children want to sit on the lap of right and again the loving jesus is not one that lets you go astray but one who woos you invites you to come to him he will give you rest but when you have rest in him you can tell the world that he is soon coming and he wants you to be part of his family brothers and sisters it's not just about impact 2021. it's about the fact that jesus is coming soon and i believe that you and i all want to meet with him face to face and rejoice throughout the rest of eternity and his companionship but when you have a good thing you don't want to keep it for yourself you want to tell others that was the message that the voice that kept popping in william miller's mind go tell the world that ought to be the same voice that ought to be popping in our hearts and minds tell the world of the love of jesus and that he is indeed coming soon [Music] for our closing song we'll use hymn
