to see i conquer wisdom upon faith dare to sing forever all this saving crazy on the street [Music] good morning good morning because moses home to eternal rest he was with them the children of israel when they left egypt and throughout that time he was guiding them and when he decided to allow them to cross over moses went to sleep yeah but he had prepared joshua to lead them on and just like god was guiding them god is still god enough he has not forsaken us so the hymn writer says guide me oh that great jehovah peeling through this barren land but he acknowledged that i'm weak and god was mighty then he said hold me with our powerful hand bread of heaven now we need that bread we don't need anything else that's what will sustain us so i know all of you know this whole familiar hymn so and they would say raise the roof raise the roof as we celebrate and the good thing about we're not celebrating a funeral we celebrate life we celebrate moving to a new chapter another chapter god me in the land of the living on the top side of the grave uh shall we stand as you're standing this is a blessing a ordained day by god because we are here to install um pastor elect reverend james lewis bumpers and first lady elect renee hope bumpers but more importantly we are here to give honor and glory and to praise his holy name many dignitaries are here throughout the audience and you'll be recognized later uh if you look to your front and behind me you will see on the screens the declaration of faith we will read the declaration of faith and then we will go straight into the call of the worship which is the 100 psalms let us read together my church which is new fellowship missionary baptist church is bible-based christ-centered holy spirit led and mission bound we believe that jesus christ is the son of god was born of a virgin named mary baptized by john the baptist crucified on a cross buried and rose on the third day ascended into heaven and is the source of our salvation we believe in the sanctity of marriage which is the union of one man and one woman the 100 psalms make a joyful noise to the lord all ye lands serve the lord with gladness come before his presence with sin know ye that the lord he is god it is he that have made us and not we ourselves we are his people and the sheep of his pastor into his grain and into his courts with praise be thankful unto him power and the glory forever and ever demo gracious heavenly father we come once more and again to tell you thank you we thank you lord for what i already have taken place lord today god we thank you for the spirit of unity the spirit of love the spirit of joy the spirit of left of god now god we come on the second half of the part of this program god to celebrate the installation of our elite pastor dr james lewis bumpers we thank you lord for allowing us to have such a man of god like that god then we ask you to bless his wife god in the name of jesus then god i come praying for your people right now god that you allow your laundry to fall fresh upon your people god knows someone in here sick some have something going on lord and some have issues but lord we know that only if they just touch the hand of your gun with god every issue will be made whole god so lord we're declaring and declaring god right now in the name of jesus lord that the spirit of blessing will fall fresh upon your people hallelujah and nothing will take advantage of your people god lord we need you right now god your reaction to bless every musician god anoint our french god bless every quiet director with god because in heaven you'll already be with god there will be eating in heaven we will eat at the king's table and there will be praise in heaven and we'll be praising him and praising him everything do you know that you and i cannot even inhale until god exhales yes he is he's my everything if you look at your programs as we continue to move along you will see that there are greetings from community at this time we will have the individuals to calm the distinguished individuals to come and the order in which they are printed there is something that i can say about all of them because all of them are important as well as all of you everyone in the house of the lord is important if you woke up this morning you're important to god but i just want to tell you and just give you this personal testimony about our first greeter who's going to come representative commissioner elaine lucas to my right there's playground equipment out there that playground equipment didn't just come by somebody popping their fingers it came as a relationship between our former pastor who's now in heaven who's looking down on us he reached out to representative elaine lucas and they had a conversation and what pastor terry said was that he wanted to provide a place for the children in this neighborhood to play and god touched the heart of sister lucas she found the money didn't have to do any fundraisers she adorned at the budget she touched the budget and then this playground equipment is here and you will see children in the cool of the evening and in the summer times playing and there's just so many great things of what she has done and i just thank her i just love her one other thing uh as she's about to come although i reside in atlanta i still vote in macon georgia i am in her district and i vote for her so this is a a blessed lady of god and we are so glad to have her and for her and as for all of us just for one time would you please stand to your feet put your hands together we will first receive commissioner elaine [Applause] lucas thank you very much is it morning or afternoon well good morning there's some the one of the qualities of youth is you remember stuff and he remembered that and that was just a really really great thing to be able to do but anyway as long as somebody remembers you're you're okay aren't you i want to bring you greetings uh on behalf of uh your making me a government and i want to say to you what a pleasure it is for me to have represented you for the number of years that i've had that that privilege uh 25 as a member of the macon city council and 11 now as a commissioner and um it's it's been a great great honor and thank you so very much this is my second church and i do bring you greetings from my pastor reverend levonya franklin jr at uh historic stewart chapel ame church you know you better say that you know you better say that but i'm very proud of our historic church on behalf of the mayor and the other nine members commissioners elected to represent you y'all elected him well but i tell you what as long as he cleans up our neighborhoods as long as he as long as he tears down these old houses which are next door to ours as long as he picks up that trash that's been out there all that while as long as he provides mental health then we're gonna say he's our mayor but when he starts to act like if he starts to act funny we're gonna tell him about that too so he is the mayor for all of us he's spending your money so you need to be on the case and help to tell him how to spend your money all right that's all my little editorializing for today i think that's all i can get away with uh randy and those back there they'll cut me off and i know i know it this is indeed an honor to be here today these two are two of my favorite people when i first met them they were working and they have continued to work every day there's been so much going on and let me tell you this they are well respected not not only here in macon but all over the state and this region and this nation people are known by the work that they do and they are truly known by good work good work so on behalf of the mayor and the other uh elected commissioners i wish to extend congratulations to the pompous family reverend james bumpers and lady renee bumpus are a blessing to this community we want to thank them for their work on behalf of the less fortunate and numerous others in need they will bring to this church the same energy and resources that they bring to other positive endeavors senator lucas and i are so grateful to call this couple our friends and servant leaders reverend bumpus brings the word and does not take all day and lady bumpers brings the worship in song what a wonderful combination so on behalf of the 155 000 residents of this city we welcome you and wish for you a new fellowship all the positive outcomes you deserve we congratulate the church for your wisdom in dear brother and sister i bring you greetings from the first baptist church the mother church at 595 new street reverend james w guzman jr is the pastor i would be remiss if i did not reach all the way back to my grandfather and reference even my home church silk creek missionary baptist church and on behalf of brother mcintyre and the family greetings to you said i'm retired i'm officially retired at the end of the month god bless and because i'm a city official i bring you greetings from the honorable heartache davis mayor the city of augusta and the governing body he wishes you well as a man of the cloth himself this past week i was honored uh with the honorary membership lifetime membership at the georgia association of assistant officials and mr james stoke president i referenced this day also sends greetings on behalf of the georgia association of assassin officials thirsty i will have the honor to witness the swearing-in of one judge virta coven to the georgia supreme court amen and i promise you sir i would take every opportunity to pass on to governor kemp and chief justice novices that i bless you with their greetings in advance that's the earthly greetings i have for you this morning because the purpose is beyond earth i say to you my brother the authority that the lord has given for you is for building up not for tearing down i'm reminded i went to see paul in second corinthians theologians would define his final four verses as the final greeting so i shared with you this morning if i might these words finally brothers and sisters rejoice strive for full restoration encourage one another be of one mind live in peace and the god of love and peace will be with you greet one another with a holy kiss all god's people here send their greetings may the grace of the lord jesus christ and the love of god and the fellowship of the holy spirit be with you all god has spoken let the church say amen okay good morning god bless you all i have a twofold um relationship with them so on behalf of making bib elc um our um ceo sarita hill we would like to say congratulations we celebrate with you we are honored that we have had this time to come and and just be a part of you you could come on yes i was looking for mr isaac so and i'm just gonna say a few words on behalf of the staff we know that you all had a chance to serve for 50 over 15 years and that is a long time to serve but during that time of serving we can say that we never saw you change we saw you serve in humility we saw you serve with integrity we saw you sir with compassion but most of all we saw you serve in love a lot of times people make it to the top and they begin to waver they begin to change but you never change during that time and we would like to just say thank you dr vapors for never changing and i would like to say a little bit about lady buffa's um when i first met her amen um she was doing a training and when she was doing that training i began to look at her and i said oh my god there's some god in there and she was saying her testimony and i want to encourage you all that your testimony got you to this point and you didn't just go through sometimes people go through it and they don't realize that there's a reason for going through but you went through to get you to this point and philippians 1 and 6 brought me to this point saying he that has begun and you that being confident of this one thing that he that has begun a good work you all are doing a great work don't stop don't come off the wall stay right there and know that we are here to support you we are here to back you up thank you for being a part of our community and those that will serve with integrity on behalf of making beef eoc and the staff we say thank as he continues to lead you that we also are led here and led to shearling drive and we'll let back over here because it's my belief that when that call does come there be two boxes checked were you obedient and did you love but they will not be a box what your denomination was and uh with that being said also i bring greetings from the board of directors of the elc uh which i'm on the board with your beloved uh well not new i have to get used to past elect but that's that's gonna go away right we won't have to say all of that and of course his lovely lady renee bumpus both of them when they enter the room the spirit enters before them and it doesn't leave when they leave because they do impart that in you and that's what all of us need to be doing imparting god's spirit it's not just for us that's not what we're here for and if i sound like a piece of the other other crossing path as a lathe i had nerve to go to seminary the same one that your beloved pastor elect so we have that and also in common but thank you for giving us this time because we know that being in leadership and being in leadership in in this time in day is not easy and lord if you don't have the lord on your side if you can't call out to jesus and you don't know to call out to jesus you will fail because nothing done without him will ever succeed thank you very much good morning new fellowship family and introduction but the way that this brother has come into our community from detroit he really needs no introduction he simply needs to be presented he's a multi-generational preacher he has one of the most unique gifts preaching gifts of our time his hermeneutic spiritual insight are spot-on relevant and relatable to all of our lives he has both learning and burning a powerful preacher and i wait with tiptoe anticipation to hear what god has to say through him to us he is a walking google search engine of information articulate high enough for the class low enough for the mass he is a war horse of a gospel preacher my friend brother beloved one highly esteemed in ministry after the singing voice of our choir the next spoken voice you hear will be dead of the preacher of the hour none celebrate our risen christ for he is not dead he is alive and we thank and praise the lord for this day we honor our heavenly father his son our savior the lord jesus christ who hung for six hours one friday and died until death died three days later he comes from the grave not as a weakling but with all power in his hands 50 days later he sent the holy ghost to reside in the president on the inside of us and what a joy it is for us to not just be his creation but to be his children so now let everything that had breath i said let everything that had breath i said let everything that had breath brings you the lord hallelujah [Applause] hallelujah i'm just fully persuaded that if you got about the bid got your right mind nobody had to wheel you in here or push you in here you walked in on your own accord that's reason enough to give god praise hallelujah we are here today first and foremost to glorify our risen christ and to worship our god for he alone is worthy there is no god like him because there is no god but him he's the only true wise and living god who is supreme and self-sufficient and we're thankful just to be gathered together to worship our christ our second purpose of gathering today is to celebrate a historical moment in the life of this church as we celebrate the receptivity the installation of my friend and my brother the reverend dr james bumpus come on new fellowship thank god for your pastor come on come on give god praise for your pastor [Applause] hallelujah no you can do better than that come on let's thank the lord for continued progress [Applause] continued vision continued leadership here in the house of the lord i want to publicly congratulate pastor bumpus and salute him for continuing to extend and expand the kingdom of god through the new fellowship church let me again salute and congratulate this church and your lay leadership who've given vision and direction in the interim until god sent a pastor amen whoever your leaders church can we celebrate the leadership of this church amen come on let's thank the lord for the leadership of this church [Applause] those persons that served in an interim capacity as pulpit team or whatever you label them here in this church we celebrate you and we thank god for you for representing the church and representing this man of god and he shared with us that he had served uh here under pastor terry and uh this is not only a spiritual moment but i don't want anybody to be offended but what i'm getting ready to say but this is not only a spiritual moment this just makes sense amen this just makes sense and so i will share with you church what i shared with pastor privately um you know having the transition that you had the lord saved you from splits and votes and y'all ain't listening to what i'm saying i said the lord saved you from splits and votes and all that type of stuff and made your transition easy amen amen and so we celebrate how god orchestrated and ordered this transition for the glory of god well ladies and gentlemen we can't celebrate the pastor without honoring the fragrance of the room the woman that stands by his side his wonderful wife lady renee bumpus come on church let's thank the lord for her [Applause] yeah yeah amen we celebrate you and we praise god for uh your labor of love not only towards your husband for but for this church and for the glory of god to all of the pastors that are and preachers who are present all of you the men and women of god that love the lord and are called according to his purpose i see sprinkles of fellowship around the room god bless you great to see you here supporting this effort today now ladies and gentlemen listen uh my assignment is just to be the forerunner the real preacher is coming at two o'clock today i'm clear on what my assignment is and we are blessed to have him in our presence today all the way from houston texas come on celebrate my brother this is my brother the reverend dr marcus cosby come on celebrating church yeah yeah you clapping cute now but at two o'clock you're gonna have way more clap than that when this man of god stands to preach the gospel of jesus christ he is one of the most respected voices in the united states of america amen amen and so we celebrate him we praise god that the lord allowed him to make it here safely uh all the way from houston texas if you're ever in houston don't leave the city without stopping by the wheeler avenue baptist church as a matter of fact they're getting ready to go into their newly built facility seats almost 3 000 people come on let's celebrate the lord for that amen amen so we thank the lord for him uh being here today and being a part of this worship experience if it is your custom that you stand for the word of god i ask that you do so i want to summon your senses and invite your intellect to the book of exodus the book of exodus chapter number four exodus chapter number four to my sound person if you can put a little bit more highs in this microphone that would be great thank you so very much exodus chapter number four [Music] it is there that the holy spirit is highlighted for us this context of scripture begin with verse number 10. exodus 4 verse 10 your bible should read and moses said unto the lord o my lord i am not eloquent neither here to for nor since you have spoken unto your servant but i am slow of speech and of a slow tongue and the lord said unto him who has made man's mouth or who makes the dumb or deaf or the seeing or the blind have not i the lord now therefore go and i will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say and he said o my lord send i pray you by the hand of him whom you will send and the anger of the lord was kindled against moses and he said is not aaron the levite your brother i know that he can speak well and also behold he comes forth to meet you and when he sees you he will be glad in his heart and you shall speak unto him and put words in his mouth and i will be with your mouth and with his mouth and will teach you what you shall do and he shall be your spokesman unto the people and he shall be even as he shall be to you instead of a mouth and you shall be to him instead of god and you shall take this rod in your hand wherewith you shall do signs i want to tag this text when god calls you may be seated in the lord's church when god calls anybody who's actually been called of god and can boldly proclaim and identify that they've been called of god struggles to articulate and explain that call the call of god a complex event that is beyond denial but it's also beyond explanation it happens in our reality but it is somehow beyond our reasoning anybody who has been called of god to do anything for any said purpose you will watch them struggle to talk about that call because often times more often than not the call of god even in its simplest form is not easy to comprehend to say that some supernatural being has spoken to you in an inaudible voice [Applause] is a contradiction within itself to say that i heard something that is inaudible is a contradiction in terms to say that somebody no one has actually seen showed up in some type of sensible form to call human beings to do certain and said purposes in the earth is a contradiction in terms and yet all of us were only born because we have some purpose from this inaudible invisible individual there were plenty of other options god had but he chose you and i first to be born and then secondly to live out the purpose for why we were born when we see this event called the call from our perspective it's actually not a call in the sense that we understand it the call of god from our perspective is always about a response and not just about a revelation and here tucked away in exodus four is the event of the response of moses to the call of god the revelation of god would you ladies and gentlemen probe with me how does moses explain that a talking bush called him either it was really god or you're really insane imagine this ladies and gentlemen to come before somebody and say god called me to do anything well how did he call you well i was walking in the backyard one day [Applause] i saw a bush burning it was burning but it was not consumed that's the first area of crazy [Applause] and not only was it a consuming a bush that burned but it wasn't consumed it was communicating that's the second area of crazy here's the third area of crazy you listened you believe that this unprecedented event [Music] is divine and now you've got to explain what it was who you were talking to and you actually responded and your first encounter with god was this unusual theophany that has no precedent to it this has never happened before there is no book to read about this event there there are no historical accounts in a library that give credence historically to this event that there is no account of another prophet who had this event the call of god is something that you and i cannot deny neither can we fully explain when we read this text ladies and gentlemen the only thing that helps us deal with the call of god is that what begins with a call ends with a sign when we read the last verse of this paragraphy he says you're going to do signs publicly that affirm what happened privately and ladies and gentlemen you may not be able to understand everybody's call but it is the manifestations of the charge of the call that give validation to the complexity of the call simply put if you've been called there'll be some sign [Applause] if you've been called to do anything for god god never leaves his call without witness god never leaves his call without signification without sign and without evidence here ladies and gentlemen would you take a minute to evaluate this passage with me and we'll get ready for this 2 p.m worship ladies and gentlemen here is what you and i have to understand that when god calls something of a contradiction comes into conflict come here moses is 80 years old he is a senior citizen from our perspective he has been employed by his father-in-law to tend to his father-in-law's sheep that means that god called him while he was working for somebody else that's a whole nother sermon ladies and gentlemen let me pause parenthetically and tell you more often than not god does not call the lazy [Applause] god calls those who are already serving somebody else's ministry somebody else's vision somebody else's goal god does not have work for those who don't work [Applause] that's the first thing we need to understand but there is a there is a contradiction happening here pastor bumpus because when moses received this revelation from god from this talking burning bush to get this charge to be the leader and law giver and liberator of the children of israel there is a contradiction happening with the call uh the contradiction is on moses's side because when he gets the call he tells god in exodus chapter three verse number 11 he says to god who am i that you would want me he displays his insignificance he tells god in exodus chapter 3 verse 13 what is your name i hear you talking to me but i don't know who i'm talking to he displays his ignorance the conversation continues in exodus chapter 4 verse 1 in which he says to god hey god they will not believe me he expresses his incredulity expresses to god in exodus chapter 4 verse 10 that he is not eloquent and slow of speech he expresses his inability and then finally in exodus chapter 4 verse 13 he just finally tells god hey man go pick somebody else [Music] he expresses his insubordination let me try it again you didn't hear me during the whole interview moses expresses his ignorance his insignificance his inability his incredulability and his insubordination i'll try one more time he tells god in exodus chapter three verse number three verse number 11 that he is uh insignificant he says in exodus chapter 3 verse 13 what is your name that expresses his ignorance he says in exodus four and one that man they're not gonna believe me that is his incredulability he expresses again in exodus 4 verse 10 that i'm not eloquent of speech i'm slow of speech that's his inability and then he finally says in exodus 4 and 10 look man just go get somebody else that's his insubordination y'all missed it i'll try it again when he gets his interview his insignificance shows up his incredulability shows up his ignorance shows up his inability shows up his insubordination shows up and past the bumpers we didn't know what was wrong with moses until he got called call him mercy before he got called there was no speech problem before he got called there was no insignificance before he got called there was no incredulability before he got called there was no insubordination but the call of god was not only a revelation of the almighty it was a reality of his reality and his carnality let me say this to you church i'm gonna be quick when i tell you this this is this is the problem with the call the problem with the call pastor bumpus is that everything that is right with god meets everything that is wrong with you lord have mercy and god still wants you lord have mercy i wish i had somebody who testified that that's your testimony in here that whenever you run into god everything that is right about god meets up with everything that's wrong with you and god still wants your service good news so we can resolve theologically that the call of god pastor cosby is what god chooses to do with flawed material [Music] i got some boozy people behind me so let me talk to these folks here who testify that's my testimony pastor i got i know some areas where i'm messed up i know my own insecurities i know my own imperfections but yet god still wants to be bothered with me the call of god is a contradiction in terms the call of god is this reckoning between everything that's right with god and everything that's wrong with who he called that's why god is the perfect god for imperfect people should have just got happy right along there i said god is the perfect god for imperfect people this is a reckoning of imperfection with perfection so much so so much so pastor bumpus that we are confronted in this text with a theological issue the tension of this text is tucked away in god's response to moses's maladies here's what god says did you hear what he said here's what he said he said moses let me ask you a question who made the blind who made the death who made the dumb the lord i've got to park my my my my trail here because we got to deal with this god raises to us some theological tension that we've got to deal with because god is clearly taking claim and credit for the life of people who have disabilities it's about to be an issue right along here god you telling me you made people with disabilities no i'm telling you i made people who have disabilities i didn't make them with disabilities everything i made was good and very good but the problem is you messed up in the garden and now the efficacy of sin has manifested itself not just in your mind but in your body but i'm still taking claim by my permissive will because watch this i've got to take claim for those who have disabilities because they're the ones that show my real power because you think i can only work with fixed people oh have mercy but my real power is being shown when i do great things with people who got defects and disabilities anybody in here can testify it's easy to work with stuff that ain't broke but the god i serve can do great things with broken people i got a question for you have you any mountains you can't tunnel through and have you any rivers you can't cross well here's the result god specializes in things that seem impossible and he can do lord i wish i had a church in here with no other power holy ghost power can do you see ladies and gentlemen if god couldn't work well with defective material then he wouldn't have all power i can't get no help here he would have limited the power and his message to moses is the very thing you are saying is a reason why i shouldn't have picked you it's the very reason why i picked you because i need to show other people what i can do with flawed materials everything you said is a problem to you it's a solution to me because it's going to bring glory to my ability to do great things with defective material listen to what he says pastor bumpus he says i'm not eloquent i'm slow of speech historically we've assigned some type of speech impediment to moses but but but when we when we research this text in its in its biblical truth it's not that he had a speech impediment he it was it's not translated in its original hebrew to be a stutter it was not a stutter what he's saying i'm slow of speech what he's the actual translation is i'm slow of thinking and the reason why i'm slow of speech is because i can't put words together quickly lord have mercy and what you need is somebody god who can think on their feet he trying to tell god how to handle his own call [Applause] [Music] because if you need somebody to speak for you you need somebody who can talk fast and think fast i can't think on my feet fast so i can't speak fast i'm not eloquent i don't know how to put words together it's not a stutter it's not a speech impediment it's a retardation of cognition preach pastor morgan he's slow in his thoughts and because he's slow in his thoughts he's slow in his speech and watch what god said hey hey hey hey moses i knew you were slow so let me tell you what i got for you sir go get your brother his name is aaron he's gone speak for you y'all missed it the text teaches us about the call but the text also teaches us about the collaboration come here hey every problem you brought to me i already had an answer the answer to israel's slavery was moses the answer to moses is speech or slowness of speech was aaron y'all missed it here go this really why i came to your church today this is the point because when god called moses he was calling aaron [Music] [Applause] still missed it still missed it moses wasn't the only one getting called aaron was getting called because whenever god calls a man to a people he's calling somebody to the man [Applause] so the question for new fellowship is not who is moses we got that figured out the question is who's aaron around here who gonna speak up for moses who gonna stand with moses who is going to echo his sentiments while you study trying to get something out of him the question is who is going to speak for him you thought this installation was just about him the question is god is checking some of you all because somebody in here got to stand for the pastor [Applause] this ain't just who's moses the question is who's aaron all y'all want him to pray for you but the question is who praying for him all y'all want him to be there for you when you get sick when your family member is struggling when somebody dies in your family when you need some financial help but the real question is who in new fellowship is gonna be to him what you want him to be to the you is who's aaron [Music] young me man i i ain't got to come back here i'm all right because our qualifications for picking a pastor is based on what we think he can do for us [Music] [Applause] and not how can i serve him [Applause] god doesn't just call a man to a people he calls a people to a man look at aaron's job aaron has two assignments aaron's job dr cosby is two things number one echo moses's word and number two compensate for moses weakness [Applause] since he's slow of speech somebody else is quick of thought and i need somebody to partner with him to compensate for his weakness because just because he's the leader doesn't mean he have all the answers just because he's the leader doesn't mean he's the perfect person it means he's who god called and now god surrounds him with people who can compensate for areas where he is weak now that's the difference between those of you who will compensate for his weakness and those of you who want to wait to expose his weakness you know that's the reason why we shouldn't have got him you know he can't do that the way we think he ought to do it that's why you don't need to be connected to the pastor the pastor need people around him who can echo his word and cover his weakness at the same time i told y'all we shouldn't have got him got to watch people did this thing didn't go their way so they waiting to expose what's wrong preach tolling morgan what did it look like i'm doing you might as well say something back to me so it won't look like i'm talking about you the question for this church is where is aaron let's see how you do no let's see how you do let's let's let's give it a few days no we gonna give it a few days because you're the one on the evaluation not just him [Applause] the question for this house [Applause] is where is aaron i probably should have called it that as a pressure to name the sermon that [Applause] i probably should have named the sermon there you should call it where is henry [Applause] because we're so busy trying to get something out of the man of god we don't want to put nothing back into him ladies and gentlemen you can you can receive my testimony or you don't i don't care every church in america that's a blessed church the common denominator is they take care of their pastor and because they take care of their pastor god blesses the house the call has a collaboration attached to it that god isn't just calling the pastor he's calling those who have been called to the pastor let him speak for you he is going to communicate your word and compensate for your weakness and you will be to him instead of god and he will be your mouth catch that church both the pastor and the church are mutual intercessors lord have mercy we're covering him he covering us he's praying for us we're praying for him he's giving to us we're giving to him this text doesn't just teach us about the call or about the collaboration this text filing teaches us about the confirmation pastor bumpus thank you for having me i'm done i know what my job was thank you i'm done here it is y'all got a bible you got a bible here's it here it is here's what your bible says lord hold your boy right here god tells moses in verse 17 and that rod you got you're gonna do signs with that y'all missed it i'm going to try it again and that rod you got you're going to do signs with that and that rod you got you're going to do signs with that nope still mister and that rods you got you're going to do signs with that okay y'all struggling with me so let me go ahead and find my clothes the very thing moses complained to god about what he didn't have god wasn't going to use no way god was going to use what he already had in the first place so while you complaining to me about your speech i was never going to use your speech in the first place i was going to use what you already had and while you complaining about what you don't got you already had what it takes because you've been walking with it the whole time that rod showed up in exodus 7 when water turned the blood that rod showed up in exodus eight when dust turned the lights that rod showed up in exodus nine when god sent a hellstorm over egypt that rod showed up again in exodus 10 when the bible says that he sent a plague of locusts with the east wind that rod showed up again in exodus chapter 4 when they got to the red sea and moses lifted up that law and the red sea split that rod showed up again in exodus chapter 17 when the people were thirsty moses lifted up that rod and hit that rock and water came out that rock but it answered us 17 verse 9 that rod showed up again because he had to lift that rod up to have victory over the people y'all missed it he had to lift that rod up to have victory for the people i'm gonna try one more time he had to lift that rod up for people to have victory y'all mister and god if i'd be lifted up ow trump oh man unto me you already got what it takes [Applause] i don't need you to touch your neighbor just look at them and tell them neighbor you already got what it takes is there anybody here that can give god glory that he already has given you what you need to do great things for god the bible says when he held that rod he already had the power already in his hand have i got a witness here i want to tell dr bumpus you walked in here with that rod in your hand every time you stand to preach the gospel you already lord have mercy got that rod in your hand and it he is the word of god have i got to witness here if you got to use it to fight the enemy use that rod if you got to use it to rebuke people use that rod if you got to use it to win people over to jesus use that if you got to use it to lead god's people out of emancipation into liberty use that rock if you got to use it just initiate praise and worship and use that rod because when god calls he already has equipped you with what you need to get the job done the call is clear the assignment is clear new fellowship here's what the lord says i will give you pastors after my own heart to feed the flock and to encourage you and i gotta witness here that means that god loves you so much he sent you a man that will lead you forward and draw you closer to jesus and i gotta win this here now since we in here today we might as well give god praise because he could have left you all by yourself he could have left you with no good leadership but god so lord the world that he came his only son and in giving you his only son he gave you somebody that loves jesus and the good news is you still got somebody that's not ashamed of the gospel of jesus christ have i got a witness here i believe that we're in a preaching deficit because people won't preach the gospel no more but i got good news for you in this church when you get here next sunday this man of god will still stand here and tell you what friday lord have mercy with nails in his hand and nails in his feet but sunday morning man i thought i was in a real church sunday morning with all power in his hand if you believe that god is still giving you a gospel preacher open your mouth under your mask and tell god thank you yes [Music] uh [Music] [Music] [Music] all so [Music] [Applause] will somebody just join with me and tell the lord thank you [Applause] thank you jesus [Applause] [Music] come on let's give him some praise come on god i exalt you god i magnify you god i make your name great god i bless you in this house hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah you just look to your right or left there are friends of mine who are here friends of long standing who've been walking with us persons whom i've known over the years and here and know that i see you sharing means so much to renee and i amen and uh the reverend dr mj robinson hope's father national preacher well known preacher renowned and the patriarch of that family and uh and he's remembered well and uh thank god for what he's meant i'm just waiting on a couple of more of them to start preaching and uh i believe that um when they accept their call uh we've got some uh preaching experts uh to uh to help out and brother morgan amen brother cosby and uh bishop wade mcrae is in the house with us today all the way from about austin georgia and um good to have you here with us man amen and then my family i have both sides of the bumpers fair my my family who representing how i got here in the world both sides of the family out here i'm gonna start with my mama's side ruth in may love bumpus hearn my mama i never called a mama a day in my life because my granddaddy the reverend dr leon lewis love said don't know boy call his mama mama he called her by her name and so from the time i could talk to the time that she passed and even when i refer to her now she's ruthless now ruth and may gave birth to two james lewis bumper senior and shirley louise hearn terrell my baby sister is here my mama's side stan shirley and her husband derek from memphis and they're celebrating 22 years of marital bliss this weekend i prayed the prayer that put them together 22 years ago and they still together that was a good prayer that's your word boy that was a good prayer man y'all still together so good that they're here it means so much to have them here with me and love you all so much sheryl and derrick yes they have two beautiful daughters um carmen and uh carmen and colby thank you carmen kobe and they're beautiful and they're very successful as well all right then my daddy's side of the family james the reverend doctor you know i'm a fourth generation black baptist preacher so our great granddaddy george hayes founded columbus baptist church in memphis amen and they that's it the right reverend and all his brothers were preachers too amen jack and all that crowd and um they knew fields junior and phil senior yeah yeah that that was that crowd yeah man um anyway i can't taste that rabbit so then my granddaddy elia love preacher my daddy james hayes bumpus and his two [Music] living siblings my aunts made the trip from memphis to come here the first one i'm gonna introduce pastors our home church in memphis the church that my grandmother georgia hayes bumpers was a member of and led in she is the right reverend dr lynn dandridge she and her husband willie are here if you feel like standing then please [Applause] and she's some kind of preacher and she'll be leading in the worship celebration on this afternoon we'll be reading scripture amen and so glad to have her here now in addition to having lynn now lynn's daughters are here too lyndon will you will his daughters are here but y'all stand the pookie and andy my cousins ain't they pudding the baby girl is here now although they went to lane college they deltas and all that good stuff that's why i know megan's your soul royals are here i got on some purple because i knew these apples were going to be here with cars and uh ross that crowd and uh i had to set that off with some purple and gold so but the deltas are in the house my aunt carolyn curry is here will you stand carolyn [Applause] what a joy when i was growing up they took care of me when i didn't know how to take care of myself i just and i thank god for them all educators um their mother my grandmother uh was so influential with creating what became the public school system in memphis tennessee and we followed in in that trail uh and so many educators amen now all right so i got some more pretty cousins here huh i'm going on i'm doing good i'm just i'm you want me to hurry up i know i got you okay so lucia bumpus cling scales will you please stand the daughter uncle ed and jean and um we're a year apart and she went to university tennessee in knoxville like hope and uh she's here today and we've been closed we were at junior high school together and i was in the seventh grade eighth grade and she was in seventh grade when uh we came to really know each other and uh that kind of thing and she's here today now this brother that i'm about to present now is like my daddy's other son now he's on pearl's only child but he's like my daddy's other son and that is vince reeves when you stay advanced it looks a lot like james hayes bumpers got that swagger that memphis swagger you know like none other he and his wife are here will you please stay in misery as well pookie that's your husband the bros the bros amen stand up the bros in the house absolutely and good to see you and we have in the house two scientists and they hooked up at faux valley state university my oldest daughter y'all hadn't seen her in a long time she and her husband are here pushing the shell bumpers white and her husband the toro and am proud of them mariah and chucker here as well y'all gonna stand up again thank you there you go ain't they pretty all these pretty children that we have and uh i love you all dearly very proud of you all and you've honored me with your presence in being here today families staying i want the entire fit both sides all three sides of the family stand i want new fellowship and making the sea the love that's come from memphis valdosta atlanta in the house thank you all so very much thank you for indulging me in that i needed to do that because they're gonna have to some of them are gonna have to leave and get back on the road uh but i want you to know i love you and i appreciate deeply you all coming to be with us i am overwhelmed with emotion i really am the preacher this afternoon i've known since 1995 we met day two of our seminary experience and we spent every day together for three and a half years it was he and i who left with ministerial assignments out of the class of ministers that graduated moorhouse school of religion in 1998 together i came to macon to serve treat my temple then and he went to houston texas to serve as the associate pastor at wheeler avenue we've been walking together ever since then amen and uh he's here we wait to hear what he has to say to us what god has say to us through him another very powerful preacher i know i'm ready to eat and cry some more and all that kind of stuff and uh you're ready to eat i think we got enough food and uh if you uh rsvp'd you know you you know that there's a plate for you but just looking around the room i can i have a sense that there's enough food for all of us amen and so we're going to ask that in that process that um you will be generous the plates are already prepared for
