[Music] [Music] hey folks well today we were invited out to this beautiful piece of property to do some metal detecting around an old stone foundation that's somewhere out here and you know usually when I'm invited to a place like this or granted permission to do some metal detecting the landowners have somewhat of an idea about how old this place is or who lived here or at least you know is a story that's probably more folklore than it is true but at least it's something but today we have no history on this place the landowner said who's an older person said that they used to play in it when they were a kid hopefully we don't find a whole lot of modern stuff today but we'll have to see but I have metal detected in properties that are adjacent to this one not this property specifically but all of those places were colonial like mid to late 1700s so I'm hoping that that's what this place is going to be as well it's an absolutely gorgeous place up in the mountains today so more than likely the people who lived here didn't have a lot of money they were hard-working farmers most likely so hopefully we can find a few things we'll have to see we're almost there [Music] alright well we have arrived sellers right here see behind me raised Foundation and then there's a hole back in there looks like it would have been a lot of fun playing as a kid so we're gonna spend as much time here as we can today it is supposed to be almost a hundred degrees today and it's already in the 80s and it's like 9 a.m. so I brought lots of water today we're gonna we're gonna suffer through it there is a stream down here so I might go take a dip in a little while see we can get the metal detector out and see what we can find for you alright well we just got a beautiful little brass fragment here me and I worked on this hole for a while I got a really terrible target and I dug it and I pulled out about three or four nails rechecked it didn't find a target again filled the back in rechecked it on there's a little something there pulled it back up pulled out a few more nails and we finally found it look at this perfect condition colonial shoe buckle shape to call the shape believe it or not the parts of a colonial era shoe buckle they all have specific names and tongue in a shape and a spike and all this stuff so this is called the shape it would have been part of the leather strap keeping mechanism I love finding these things there's such a unique shape it's always very very obvious what it is once you pull it out and hopefully we'll be able to find the rest of it there's a few more pieces we're missing they would have been a pin through here a lot of times the pins are iron which does not last in the ground as long as the brass does so that's why we very rarely find them all together awesome well that is a fantastic sign we're gonna keep looking around this spot so if we can find more stuff like that so I find pieces of cooking vessel very very often it's always just kind of fragments of cast iron but right now I found something that is a part of one that I've never even seen before really this is what would have been the top of one of these big kind of pots right and you can see very clearly that this is a handle that was cast into this vessel that's really cool I suspect there would have been another one on the other side and it would have had some little feet protruding down the bottom and it just gives you a really good idea of what this thing would have looked like I've been finding other fragments of this in the same area but this is just a interesting view into what folks cook their food in way back when awesome alright well I've just been kind of wandering away from the site a bit around the perimeter of the property here we found ourselves and this kind of little pine forest and check this out 82 it seems quite shallow so it might be modern hole down there give you a close-up let's see it's right over here looks like I missed quite a bit well I think it's a buckle oh my gosh I think it's a absolutely complete shoe buckle you see this Wow is it gonna be complete it sure looks like it whole ah the inside fell out now there was anything inside there it's a gone now I must must have been iron look at that perfect not really bent like it's just a little bit bent wow this is a colonial shoe buckle 1700s probably mid late 1700s you know the the leather kind of went through here so if this inner part broke out this would have fallen off your shoe and probably missed so really well not much of a design just a couple parallel lines there but still would have been missed I'm sure beautiful well that is the find of the day so far colonial-era shoe buckle beautiful let's keep going so sellers right over there and been detecting for probably half the day found it quite a few pretty cool things but I just cannot get my eyes off this giant rock that's right here check this out look at that then impressive I would say that's probably a four and a half feet tall well over 10 feet long here just a giant stone dropped off by the glaciers 2000 years ago so this would have obviously been here when the folks lived here and we knows maybe they used it for something getting on their horses so I came over here and I did some detecting and there seems to be some some targets to dig lots of iron a few mid-tones so we're gonna spend some time over here you know it got me thinking you know that cellar that's over there could have been underneath like a barn or just another building on the property in the actual home where they spent the majority of their time somewhere over here next to this beautiful rock so we're gonna spend some time around this big rock and see if we can find a few things over here [Music] [Music] okay so I find buttons a lot you know usually I find around a dozen sites like this and I don't usually show them unless there's something unique about them and this one I would have to say falls in that category look at that isn't that awesome it's kind of like a top hat shape and you see where the shank used to be and it's all pretty engraved with I don't know it almost looks like wheat or flowers of some kind really really nice I suspect this would have been plated in something way back when silver or gold maybe it was just brass and all polished up shiny really cool might even be a snowflake now that I'm looking at it awesome alright well I just found something here it's got me shaking a little bit I don't know what it is I think it's copper I think it's ringing really low on the metal detector it's like 56 56 that's what it rang in what I was in the ground too which is why I didn't film the digging of it I thought it was just gonna be another button and god it's a coin I've never found an old copper coin this small it's so heavy look at that there does appear to be writing around the outside so I am sweating profusely out here today I'm just going to take a little bit and just wipe the front of it here to let the raised parts become a little bit darker see what we can make out here man how about this side well it looks like there's a bust but this is the side that looks the best and what I'm gonna have to use to identify this I don't know what it is unfortunately right now like I said I've never found an old copper coin this small before I'm also wondering too if this could be a counterfeit you know designed after a coin that is silver but made out of copper maybe plated and silver at one point in credible well that is an awesome find we're gonna stick around this area a bit see if maybe we can find some more stuff like this all right we got a pretty cool little find here I'll be quite honest I'm not entirely sure what it is but it's a little piece of brass in the shape of well it's like a little clip you see this this part is kind of bent over and there's a little hook right here it doesn't appear to be a design or anything on here I'm wondering if this is a piece of clothing perhaps like an early suspender we are at a you know 1700s colonial site the suspenders that I am very familiar with are like mid 1800s 100 years later and they don't really resemble this at all but it could also be something for furniture you know it's hard to say something to make their life easier all right onward so I wanted to give a little update on this mysterious copper coin that I found I was able to snap a picture of it and get a message out to our good friend Mike from the videos last year and he did some research on the computer and he sent me back a picture of a British gold coin a half Guinea I was thinking well it's it's not gold but that's the closest that he could figure I was like maybe this thing was a counterfeit maybe it was a copper coin plated in gold and passed off as the real thing so I rubbed that thing on my pants and in my fingers I scraped the edge to make sure it wasn't just a tarnished gold coin and check this out so here's the front again you can kind of make the bust out a little bit better now you can kind of make out his nose right here in his head and I flip this thing over and check it out you see all this right here that's gold plating that has worn away and the date would normally be at the bottom and I can't make it out it's probably 1780s I would guess it's a George the third half guinea counterfeit that is incredible I'm wondering too if I get home if I treat this with a little bit of acids more of that gold plating will shine through I bet it will insane all right well hey let's uh keep go and see if maybe we can find a real one [Music] alright well we have something here which kind of looks so familiar I really should probably know what it is but I'm unsure I've been sitting here staring at it for a while cleaning it off and when it first popped out of the hole I thought me and is that a pin tip but it's definitely way too big to be from a pen and you know I've seen this little tab with a with a hole in it on like gun pieces as if this went up into a into the stock and I'm wondering if maybe this is like a ramrod guide I've never seen one this shape before though usually they're much smaller and much more delicate but you know older guns I suppose they they were probably quite a bit more substantial this is clearly cast brass so I'm gonna I'm gonna say it's probably not a pen although that would be pretty awesome if it was we're gonna call this a piece of a gun musket just the shape of it is like such an interesting shape you know like a lot of a lot of you just fell on me a lot of care went into the design of this it's really it's faceted solid brass it's beautiful whatever it is it's gonna look nice in my display case let's keep moving here you know I just went to check the time on my phone does anybody know what that is the deer tick that's the bad one I suspect I probably have another half dozen of them walking around on me right now but we're gonna go home and shower get rid of those guys you really only have to worry about them when they've been stuck in you for about a day but I'm careful let's keep going all right well I just got a very big pretty clean iron tone and decided to dig it and first they just they're like this much was sticking out I thought it might have been a horseshoe but it's clearly not if you notice it has I mean it's pretty obviously hand forged by a blacksmith but you can see the ends are twisted or you know bent around and I was just sitting here trying to think of what the purpose of this might be I was wondering if maybe you know you'd have chains here and it was used to hang something or maybe it's part of a wagon almost I think it may be it could go down into something and then hook like a pop maybe don't know but I thought it was pretty interesting never seen anything quite like that metal detecting before probably never be able to know what it was used for but it's cool enough that I'm gonna clean it up and hanging on my wall at home handmade several hundred years ago very cool well I don't believe it you just got another shoe buckle look at that almost one's quite a bit smaller than the other one I almost wonder if this is you know part of that first fragment you found Oh too big interesting so we would have had a few buckles here really really nice I love finding these things oh my gosh this is not something I've ever seen before this one has been repaired look at this you see that there's a joint right there that has been soldered back together whether that's silver solder it cleaned up super nice so it might be a silver solder on this old shoe buckle that broke and then was repaired you know that says a lot about the time doesn't it instead of throwing these out buying some new ones they brought him to a place to get them fixed I've never seen anything like that before I mean it makes sense but I've never seen it in an artifact before I found a lot of shoe buckles over the years this has got to be one of my favorites when I first saw that I thought it with my shovel but it's definitely what that is is a repair incredible all right good find alright folks well I don't know if you can tell but it has gotten quite a bit darker out the temperature actually dropped my wife sent me a text message letting me know that a big thunderstorm is coming through so we're gonna get out of here before we get stuck in that we did pretty good today I am very pleased with everything that we found and man that coin I'm still pretty sure these folks didn't have a ton of money up here or you know farming community you know it makes me hope that they didn't get that thinking it was real only to find out that someone scammed them anyway let's look at the things we found today alright look at this awesome pile of 1700 artifacts here we found six buttons some of them you saw here some Thunder rolling in the distance there I'm gonna hurry up this is a just a giant coke tom back button I suspect just by the size of it that would have been like a big old winter coat this piece of iron here I'm not entirely sure what it is but it looks very similar to like a side plate on an old musket so until I know for sure I'm gonna hang on to it one shape that does not fit in either of these shoe buckles but we did find another fragment of shoe buckle there so who knows maybe it goes to that and this shoe buckle specifically is probably one of my favorite I've ever found just because of this little silver solder repair right there like I said I'm pretty sure these folks didn't have a ton of money and it's just interesting seeing something like this as valuable as a shoe buckle being repaired we have this super interesting artifact here which again I'm not sure what it is I'm just speculating it almost looks like it could be part of a gun and last but not least we have our coin here it's a half Guinea which is a British gold coin copper gold-plated I'm pretty sure I can see some of the gold shining through who made it why is it here hopefully these folks weren't taken with a Bitcoin overall really really great day alright folks thanks again for watching and I'm gonna start hiking out of here hopefully I'll see you another new video next Friday
