Making HUGE Takoyaki (Octopus Balls) in the Tokyo Creative Office! [Feat. Abroad in Japan]

I'm rich I'm genuinely really hungry hey guys welcome to Tokyo creative play I'm your host Emma and I'm here today with Chris pride hello folks let's go down well we're hungry and it's time to make some jumbo takoyaki can you explain what takoyaki is is a kind of octopus balls elegant way of saying it's kind of batter with diced up octopus bit of mayonnaise and it is like the staple food of Osaka I love it but I'm actually quite scared to like being cooking definitely have a good relationship the only thing I can kick is non blur so I'm a little bit scary a little bit scary yeah quite small so this is actually gonna be an added challenge today where we're making - I can show the camera - really jumping yes jumbo tackle yeah all right where do we start first off we gotta add the flour the eggs and some water so we're just using a pre takoyaki mix that it should be pretty straightforward at home you can probably look up the recipe if you want to make takoyaki along with us Jackie Mitch yeah I don't know what must be slip flour [Music] this is like my first foray into cooking I was thinking of setting up a new channel abroad in a pan I feel like a naughty student I'm just gonna be copying ghee there's no testing in the bowl in it so I'm making a just a small well in the center because I don't really want too many chunks in my taco yaki it's a lot of mix isn't it yeah I think this is enough for maybe two or three and feed half of Hokkaido with this how have you kept your side so clean over here it's like Christmas this is the bit I'm scared it's gonna explode I don't like white eggs they crumble like easier than brown ones I made it well you don't have to you don't have to you don't make a well yeah I need to make a hole in the middle for the egg in all right here we go yeah okay I'm just gonna be gradually mixing in the flour so yeah I don't even laughs give me nothing by doing it with this method usually it will stop so many lumps gradually made no I'm just using the method I used for cakes again your side looks beautiful just see do you have you done much like cooking with no in the last decade no I've lived alone a lot the last yeah yeah I can all gonna fit in the bowl this is why I don't cook oh I must eat out like three or four times a week imagine I've had a long day of editing the video [Applause] we're traveling somewhere I come back and I see something I sit down takoyaki I mess it up spectacularly and then my dinners ruined and then I cry in a row I'm gonna turn it on alright starting to look more elavil often after you cook maybe like so ie L four or five times and he could do you have a big kitchen it's not huge I've got two two burners um a little bit of bench space than the sake I used to use my ironing board for three years as like kitchen space yeah my old apartment so these are the fillings like croutons yeah it's gonna be the tempura bit so for the oil in the takoyaki machine now what we have to do is fill it like 50% of the way and then put in the ingredients right I will let you go slightly ahead of me okay Pioneer tempura bits octopus spring onions on its own octopus doesn't look too clear peeling I look at that and think do you want to have that but in takoyaki kind of goes well the texture the kind of toughness of the octopus goes really well with the crunchy crispy batter okay wish me luck lay it just two pieces chive and a little bit of Benny short looking good all right and now I'm just gonna fill it up a little bit more okay here we go Latin possibly go wrong you don't have to put this in apparently that's a put it on after like put in a few pieces of did you burn a few bits of green onion but instead tempura crouton stuff we go no all right yes I'm exactly that's laughter okay so while we wait for mr. cook we're gonna be doing a Q&A Q&A all right yeah this isn't your standard Q&A we've got a little capsule machine gashapon yeah so this takes one yen's one of the cheapest machines no expense spared so usually you get a little toy in these things but we've got questions written on the back of receipts oh my god me too yeah Japan a kind of like yeah yeah I miss like good quality sausages with real meat yeah I miss Cumberland Cumberland sausages cover batch sausages they're good yeah in goes that we've broken the machine no all right what do you think is the grossest Japanese food did you have it before share us your experience there respect the fermented squid you get as a side dish oh yeah cool see our shield color tastes horrible I remember someone a friend of mine bought that for me on my first week in Japan oh right you've got this food salted fermented squid I still haven't given them yeah half years later yeah that's pretty bad metal not always horrific so annoying like when I'm in Osaka see the make it doesn't work because not because I don't know how to cook more questions yes okay what country are you genuinely surprised to get viewers from what country am I generally supposed to give used from interesting question I've seen that I've got views about 150 countries you can look on YouTube yeah yeah and it's reached the point now that I've got at least one viewer in like every country oh yeah and that's really weird I made a joke once and I had Somalia in it I comment what the context was it was a joke and I had Somalia in the joke and someone from Somalia said like full of Somali oh [ __ ] it looks actually like a tackle yeah yeah I think it'll get more round as I do I have to do something I think maybe you should swish around a bit this is the best one it's starting to look like a takoyaki no might pull this off and lunch is this is good and rip I'm genuinely really hungry yeah I'm actually getting nervous that I could screw it up my screws up there is no longer I don't want to eat just raw octopus ya know what difficult waiting it in alright alright the question is alright slippery hands you need help I don't need help house know here if you need me I can how old were you when you had your first girlfriend / boyfriend what and how did it go what really yeah who wrote these questions oh my god I was I was in grade 7 I was young yeah I mean it wasn't like a real boyfriend or a real boy it was just someone else asked them out for me and then alright I didn't know if we're actually going out for a really long time cuz they're like yeah he was too out with you but he never talked to me so I was like are we going out my first girlfriend was when I was 15 and it lasted about six months Wow didn't know there's been all right the first two months there didn't go so well yeah I don't do remember that much it was like a lifetime away some reason the guy that I went out with I just held a grudge against him for a really long time like even through high school went to the same high school and even though I can't remember why I had a grudge against him just the whole time what do you have does he watch this will he watch this video does he know you're hey what's up don't know why I held a grudge to a really nice guy hope you have a great life now comes to your first boyfriend sorry god I feel like he broke up with me really badly this is getting like personal personal date but he's not making jumbo takoyaki on the pinnacle of success I'm just like letting it weigh it down trying to get even even one looks more round than you yes oh maybe I'll win this battle yet I love takoyaki what's the thing you like doing most everyday a thing I like doing most many days watching take a create videos I unsubscribe and re-subscribe every day and you should take note was the end of the day I generally sit down try and watch one film every day so I'm trying to watch a film or a documentary every day now in the evening before get a bed that's my favorite moment the day generally he's not hated it's not hated I've moved on yes come on gashapon machine why I was been your most embarrassing moment in Japan ever oh boy okay so I stayed at a friend's house when I came here in high school I like I'm stayed with her right I didn't know that she had a toilet separate to the bathroom and I used the toilet in the normal bus and the whole house like shook oh my god and then I had like a little like open the during the little grandma was dead she took me down the hole and they had like a bad day with like palm trees and stuff it was like what's most glorious well it sounds less your thumb or just a dodgy toilet I know yeah it wasn't like a classic Japan story was taken back sick I think my most I know this embarrassing was certainly all good I went I had to give a speech after my third year when I was leaving my job as a teacher I had to give a speech to the whole school 1200 students and teachers and it was in Japanese okay but it was about 35 or 36 degrees that day and we're in the big hall and it was like a sauna it must have been over 40 degrees Celsius in there so it's so hot and while I was talking in Japanese I was kind of I was ready it was so bloody nervous my voice was breaking well the speaking Japanese but not only did I say jokes in Japanese that didn't work just bomb well students were like clearly wanted a gal that was so hot and I've written this like 15 minutes speech oh shoot and I was like I've had so many great memories invertebrate and the students like please just finish and some student that like two students passed out during my speech it had to be carried out on stretchers so I'm trying to do my presentation in Japanese while students are being literally taken out on stretchers and it was just the most awkward surreal thing I just keep talking and being like oh while the students being dragged out oh my god I went out I think possibly it's been a little bit longer than mine so first it needs some kind of Worcester sauce right yeah okonomiyaki sauce says yes basically Worcester sauce and you put a bit of mayonnaise on yeah oh and the fish flakes of course is an incredibly savory dish is no mayonnaise and batter and stuff and it's looking and smelling like a real tackle you've done it looks cute on it how can we go I'm gonna cook it up yeah three-two-one yes that's good so what's the source then mayonnaise mayonnaise [Music] seaweed that's what really makes a little like tacky seaweed on the mayonnaise that is actually looking rather good yeah yeah this could be the moment that I realized I could surf the takoyaki stand oh my gosh yeah the channel goes down the path I'll do it just in case it is awful to wash down wash down the horror okay yeah here we go Cheers when you're left-handed ya know why is that always a big deal people we're so amazed by its weird cuz to me I'm just a left hand yeah yeah it is it's kind of comedian now otherwise would be banging yeah oh oh man that's good yeah I'm worried I didn't fit up so so much Oh ma'am yeah yeah it's like perfectly cooked one second sure this is kind of falling apart but it's like it's cooked all the way through and it's still like soft in the middle mmm it tastes right yeah obviously it's a lot thicker than usual battle wise kind of like that only thing with these is everything hard like pick up and get in your face yeah the good thing about regular-sized takoyaki is they're perfect to pick up this is kind of awkward the first time I had tough yaki in Osaka I just put in my mouth and I bet I know for the next week I was like I can't eat and so be careful woody of yours on a scale of one to ten it tastes the same as normal right yeah yes so if a normal takoyaki is like a 10 I give mine a 10 okay give myself a 1000 gems thank God give mine an 8 the battery is a little bit more but other than that yeah it's thoroughly edible surprisingly yeah I'm in the terrible style it's actually turned out wrong oh well all right well thank you for coming and making giant yes thank you for having me in a mess make some noise blump turned out rather well
