hey everyone welcome back to the range body armor test day got a level three alumina and ultra high molecular weight polyethylene single curve plate from la police gear here there is a thread on arfcom wanting to know how well these perform so quite a few of the members chipped in and sent me some paypal cash and we ordered these with next business day shipping and got them in one day all the way from california so we're gonna see what we can do against this plate today this plate is single curve it is five pounds two ounces it has a warranty of five years there is no stated manufacturer country of or origin on here but i'm guessing it is probably imported you'll see from the little sketchy gray lines in here that this has a reduced strike face on it so the polyethylene extends all the way to the edge here but the actual ceramic only exists inside of that rectangle or pore scribbling that i did so we'll make sure that we're gonna hit nothing but the ceramic when we do this test we'll be at 45 feet which is the nij test distance we have our clay briefcase as always and because this is ceramic we've gone ahead and dropped this on its face two times i will put a picture in picture of the rounds that we're going to test but it's pretty much gonna be all of our rf one and two threats which is m193 m855 we'll throw m855a1 in there as well as m80 ball and m80a1 and if we have enough parts in the plate just whatever else i brought with me today so give me a second and we'll set up for this test this is our la police gear level 3 ceramic plate we're going to drop this on its face twice once twice we have our plate strapped in our clay briefcase this is a giant 16 and a half by 16 and a half box filled with a non-hardening clay similar to roma one plastina that the nij uses but it has a lower melting point so i've tried to calibrate it before but it doesn't come close at the temperature that i can keep it at at the range so it's going to give you a representation of what backface could be the nij allow allows up to 44 millimeters which is a little over two inches so when we show this if there's a huge dent in the clay that's probably a good indication that even if it stopped it it's going to fail on back face we've labeled some of these plates with the date so any of the detractors online don't think that i'm pulling punches or using different plates or something or other to try to discredit some of these tests because for some reason people don't believe some of these results that i get but i'm here to give you nothing but the truth all right you should be able to see everything in the main camera myself the gun and the plate down there 45 feet strapped to our briefcase we're gonna do our rf one and two threats which are essentially m193 and m855 we have a tc compass which has a 22 inch barrel giving us maximum performance giving me the best chance to defeat this armor we're going to do two rounds of m193 first two rounds of m855 an ss 190 load from five seven in our five five six case and then m80 or m855a1 if it penetrates out of this barrel we'll go to the 16 inch barrel from when we tested the rma 1092 plate that one couldn't stop the 16 inch barrel m855a1 but i'm almost certain this has a really thick stripe face on it so it shouldn't be a problem so m193 first i will also put a picture in picture of the round that i'm using velocity 3375 m193 again [Applause] 33.67 now our m855 30-93 3115 now this is that ss190 has a steel tip like m85 m855 but an aluminum core it's 31 grains i'm going to put this right in the middle of the plate hopefully 3777 and now our m855a1 30 93 all right here are six shots on this plate i think i've well proven enough in the past that ceramic is multi-hit this is a tile array plate you can see some that alumina ceramic there so typically if you take a hit up here with a monolithic plate cracks will propagate through that solid piece so with tiles you're lessening that crack propagation but m193 m193 m855 ss 190 pull m855 and ra1 we stayed inside of the ceramic on the strike face and no pass-throughs whatsoever i had to dig this little guy out of there that is a brass round from another test that is not a penetration so back backface wise very little back face on there a little dimple in the clay from the a1 i think that's the greatest there but so far it's contained those shots we'll step up to our 308 threats now all right now we have our 308 threats these are our typical maximum back face deformation on body armor we have some kunsan or pmc m80 ball and then we have our m80a1 which is the enhanced performance round has the steel tip just like m855a1 but obviously 130 grains we'll take the two shots with the pmc i'm gonna go the second shot towards the top of the plate just to see what kind of back face we get on a compromised part of the plate and the m80a1 will go in the lower right where we should have a very solid piece of ceramic we're using a 22-inch barrel this is a tc compass we have a yankee hill phantom m2 on here so this is going to be the lower left of the plate [Applause] 2766 now we're gonna go to the upper part of the plate 2766 again and then now our m80a1 29.76 smoking hot now we're starting to really cause some damage to this plate our m80 first ball round was right down here our second was up here i wanted this on a compromise part of the plate hopefully that didn't go through and then down here was our m80a1 epr i've already lost two bungee straps today if you're a patreon supporter you totally help me purchase these from menards at 1.75 apiece oh no pass-throughs at all now that back face up here though that's the the one up there in a compromised area pretty significant we'll measure that in a second but these other two a little bit of a dimple there this one was the other m80 so that one's and it wasn't a compromised area so it is a little deeper we'll see if we can get a measurement on here like i said this is just a representation it's good to have a compressible media on these when you test them so the m80a1 was 23 millimeters you probably would see 30 or more if this was calibrated and then this m80 ball round up here is 48 millimeters so that would probably be over 50 with nij clay and this guy down here right about 41 millimeters we peeled our front cover off here you can see where the ceramic like i said ends here and there's a foam ring there's also an additional foam ring that goes on the outermost edge as well there is no strike face foam protectant on this particular plate i think that would be something really easy to add to some of these cheaper plates without a significant cost just to help protect this panel and then like the nij06 standard does call for a strike face foam it's not going to add a whole lot of weight or thickness to it but you can see these different tiles it looks like there's maybe one two good tiles left after all that and then what's left behind it is obviously all the polyethylene now this is where the whole multi-hit steel versus ceramic and polyethylene we get into consideration is if all of this strike face went away you probably would lose m855 protection because this is what's breaking up that steel tip but this polyethylene backer here is really good at still stopping m193 so you could probably still take some m193 hits off this but nothing that's got steel in it i'd say this level three or rf one two plate performed really well it is a little heavier than other level three plates at five pounds but with the ceramic is as thick as it is i'll annotate how thick it is i saved a little tile to measure when i get home this performed really well especially against our epr threats that other level three plus plates might not be able to handle because they're going to be lighter and have a thinner strike face the back face on some of the m80 rounds probably was a little excessive again this is just a general representation of what it could do i'm not a substitute for official nij testing where they have calibrated clay but if you're looking to make a budget purchase i'd say it'd be really hard to go wrong with these especially if you get a coupon i talked to the ceo of la police gear and they lot test every lot that they get into these they shoot five to six plates to ensure conformity with what they claim they're going to stop as always i'd like to thank those who helped make these videos possible in this case the members on arfcom who helped donate funds to make this purchase la police gear for the amazingly fast shipping going from california to michigan in one day for 36 shipping is hard to beat my patreon supporters and you all for watching i'll have the level four test in another video since these tend to get long and until next time catch you at the range how are you dropping the top of the barn stop recording
