Improvised Body Armor Made From Amazon UHMWPE?

[Music] welcome back today we have somewhat of an armor test for you so background on this story I do a lot of armor testing for those who are new here on channel a lot of it these days has been with you HW MPE polyethylene-based armor systems because they're becoming more more popular in the u.s. just basically because they're relatively inexpensive so a viewer actually shot me a message over on my facebook page and asked me about these things right here so these are for sale over on Amazon will drop links down below in the video description if you guys wouldn't pick them up but in all different sizes all different thicknesses and it is UHMWPE however what I didn't realize when I ordered it was just how different it is versus the stuff used in armor in terms of how it feels so this is a solid kind of thing this one here 3/8 thick this ones that happened to that guy were did both just to see if there's a difference and you could cut this with a band saw if you wanted to cut it down into an armor panel or something like that however if you look at any of the polyethylene type armor out there on the market right now what you'll see is it's sheets so it's thin sheets back to back to back back and what that does the sheets is it gives us some pliability it also gives it I guess sort of like the ability for so bit me back up the way polyethylene armor works when a bullet hits it is that it momentarily melts from the friction of the bullet and then very very quickly grabs it as it goes from melted back to a solid state so with all the different layers I think it allows that process it's my hypothesis anyway to occur quicker so I'm not sure if it'll work with these plates like this that are so rigid I literally have no idea I have not seen anyone test this on the internet so I think we're gonna be establishing history here today but yeah I mean there's plenty of polyethylene armor out there that will perform all the way up to level 3 I have no idea what to expect here it could get punched right through by 9 mil or it can take 308 just behind I don't know but either way we're about to find out we have the thinner plate down there so 3/8 inch thick and 115 a munitions coming out of a Greger precision full-size gun yeah we'll see how it does looks like this video may be a short one you guys could see our point of impact there and then it did come out the back now one thing that's interesting is that you could see it did melt just like I was describing like go with the traditional weaved uhw MPE there so it was definitely melting and then trying to catch it it just apparently didn't happen fast enough for whatever reason so we'll try to save 9-millimeter against the half-inch one see what happens we have the half-inch plate down there now and I also wanted to change up another variable so we have now 147-grain this is the winchester Ranger bonded hollow points gonna be going a little slower see if that makes a difference at this point I don't know that well let's see let's check it out [Music] all indicators are definitely pointing towards a quick video today so you guys can see the entrance hole and actually on this one what's interesting about it is probably because it's going slower out imagine it actually didn't seem like it was trying to grab it it looks like it just punched straight through huh so yeah so what I'm gonna do now is we're gonna put a 3/8 one in front of it and try to create that sort of layered effect and see if that'll stop it we're all learning same time we're gonna fire two different rounds so first up again the 147 winchester then the following one will be the 115 grain Minuteman again going faster just kind of see what happens with each we'll see we got to reset it as you guys probably guessed from the slow-motion footage both of them penetrated yet again so we really didn't have that much difference in terms of how they look going through the second portion I will tell you that we're just looking at the box I'm not sure if you guys could see it but both of them we're tumbling so it was at least doing something to it but basically you guys can see here if the camera I don't know how it looks at your end but that's our hundred fifteen Graner and 147-grain err they definitely look different it looks like it it has the UHMWPE type properties however in this configuration this solid state like this even with both of them stacked back-to-back it's not gonna stop 9-millimeter and again like I said you know if you had a half inch of layered UHMWPE it would stop most rifle rounds so what have we learned do not buy these on Amazon cut them into a plate shape and use them as body armor it simply isn't gonna work out how about 22 out here otherwise I would try that but I mean if it ain't gonna stop 9-millimeter it's not gonna stop any rifle stuff either so that's pretty much it guys got a boring video but at least now you know don't get a bright idea to go on Amazon
