Breakfast Club morning everybody is DJ envy Angela Yee Charlemagne to God we are The Breakfast Club we got a special guest in to build our guy jo koy I'm back how are you my brother good I'm good I was just reading the article about jo koy he was bragging oh boy about how his relatable comedy style can sell out arenas bragging selling out arenas yeah that's why I like you that was a humble brag though yeah like he wrote that oh you rolled that guy that's yeah that's we do the interview well first and foremost my relatable comedy what he asked you I have you so how do you feel about selling out arenas um it's crazy man it's uh I can't believe it I gotta stop saying I can't do this and I always dreamt like when I saw like Eddie when I was a kid I was like you know it's possible so and now it's happening so forum in a day boy I can't believe it chase arena in a day we added a second chase I sold up the Mall of Asia and arena in the Philippines Australia it's crazy right now my bucket list venue was the DAR constitutional Hall where Eddie Murphy shot delirious yeah I was like that was always I wrote that down and it's I was like this I have to play this and and it's finally happening especially when you walk offstage and you show the crowd and how big it is and then you just walk off like you got a big dick okay crapped it up because when you say like you have a big dick that's insinuating that you don't that is true too I will say this on his behalf I don't but why why is it always like you you always kill like I I know no I go he goes I just read an article on you I go is it good or bad he goes we'll see this is gonna suck for you this morning on your small dick and everything but people have to realize the amount of work that does come before and you start selling out arenas thank ya xxx here there's my 30th year I was uh I sold shoes MV I was in flipping houses I was flipping shoes I was flipping shoes Nordstrom Rack mm and I was doing the bootleg ones at Nordstrom Rack the ones like like the the second season so I was pushing those how's your son doing he's doing good man these kids are not motivated for the future good but uh he's not leaving until he's like 30 32 for sure could you spoil a little more I don't want him to leave to be honest yeah I like to be honest like I'm trying to act like a dad like he's not gonna go anywhere but deep down sound like I hope he never leaves you talk about your penis being small and people assume that he's okay so when I first started he you know what's funny is when he first that's a true story when he came out to me he was actually very he was younger when that joke happened and uh and it took me like three years to get it out and I remember it was like he was already 16 or something like that 15 and I'm just like I'm gonna do the joke anyways I'm just gonna do the younger voice I guess and then and then I was starting to think myself was like [ __ ] he's 1560s dating now that's like how is he gonna feel about that and then when we taped it he was like dad you got to do that joke he's the one I said I could do it cuz I was gonna do it because he knew that joke was funny he knew is like dad you got to do that joke he's older and his friends can watch it love it love it they think it's a cool brag yeah my dick small but I got a car I asked him I yesterday if he wanted to do stand-up and he's kind of hinting the fact that he might do it he's actually funny he's always funny and I just like I feel it like we were in Singapore took him to Singapore and I was just asking him if he wanted to like bring me up on stage like just say my name like dad my dad but whatever and then he kind of looked at me like like yeah okay like he was gonna do it my heart started pounding I'm like well he's about to do this and then he didn't it's cute like when you're really young and you do something like that but then when you're older if you don't do like a yeah ruined your life yeah or related to somebody who's extremely funny mhm and we've seen that you know with who is a Richard Pryor son and we've seen that with other people you got a stick it up though doing comedy there's a lot more pressure on you really I don't know really or even like for Tony Rock haven't been Chris box you know being Chris Rock's brother Hornitos oh yeah but I'm saying it's a lot of pressure and yeah especially when you're first trying to get started you don't start out as doing great because you do have to still find your stride and get to the funny yeah I remember Damon jr. was going up and he would he would even go up with his real name he was like make up names cuz he did but it sucked cuz he looked exactly like his dad right this guy's got a [ __ ] name right now that's Damon son but he killed it so I would love for my son to the I would just love to see it said he's funny though would it be funny to you like oh he's funny all our kids are cute to us and funny that everything he do is great yeah do you think people with ugly kids know that their kids are ugly no just they don't do that no no they don't no no because you just said like you're like you know your kids are always cute to you but like yeah I've seen some ugly and they post it on Instagram they want like some like there's a reason why you're not getting like yeah you do this everything but mostly the face envy yes it starts right around here and then it works its way down what do you think its personality on it when babies have all your face yeah it is what they are yeah like their body is gonna grow into the face exactly yeah like they have a 32 year old like my cousin Tony he look the exact same since he was a child oh he finally matches now yes in fire yeah his neck finally grew into his head he's always had those features oh the worst what makes an ugly baby here we go do you start with the toes and then up no babies okay you're mine faces aren't developed so you know you got five babies that look just like you that's all of them looked just like my son looks I don't know who he looks like he's got a big afro I use a beautiful kid but I think you gotta have for you more than half row the next question I have to ask is are you sure it's yours I don't think it's mine I think it's Kaepernick's at least 30 yards but he was about sick is that why you cut his hair yesterday I think so man I'm gonna be mine just shaving it off completely son you don't even want to know that's your son no he's mine I had hair fell out when I was like 19 I had sleep apnea though so I think that's what contributed to my hair falling it yeah man is that a medical fact yeah I think so cause I'd wake up and there's just a pile of hair on my my pillow maybe show my trying to be funny and cutting your hair it was God being funny yeah because when I sleep I it's bad without my mask it's horrible anyone would sleep apnoea please get a CPAP and quiz saying you're snoring you're not you're dying it's awful this is what you look like cuz you can't see it I'm gonna show you what you look like right now this is what you look like when you have sleep apnea like an ugly baby I'm gonna make it jo koy show us how you got all this [Laughter] do you really is bad even now yeah it's bad just like big way people get I know right that's all wait oh wait no no that's it that's a real thing and even the doctor was like dude you should be like obese the way you're sleeping it's bad I think you never get a full good never never going to REM or any of that I don't even know a dream I've never even had a dream I don't think I swear like people I remember when I was a kid my friend be like yo I was fighting like these people with swords and [ __ ] I'm like yeah you think of [ __ ] when you sleep I don't I didn't get any of that and it's to this day I'm gonna do about it why I use the CPAP so it's like I'm still like yeah so I don't get to go into deep rest like you guys when you wake up you you look like you've been falling into your mattress right you get the lines I used for my anxiety more so anything yeah yeah it works for me yeah I try everything it's a cuz it's not it's not a mental thing it's it's it's physically my throat there-there is but they say you get it right back so yeah man it sucks man what about getting your tan no for some people if their tonsils are enlarged and they have to get their toes I asked him he goes now that saying where he goes your your whole body sucks yeah literally he said that he goes your tongue collapses into the back of your throat oh yeah it's great no I need the tongue for sure Angela good point hard-hitting questions Joe what makes an ugly pain Joe don't cut your tongue out Joe do you think you need that you think you need your tongue I don't think I need my tongue my thoughts and subtitles I think we all only great when you've been canceled at some point yeah I know we live in that sensitive area right now right and I I just uh I try and keep it just on my family that's always been my style though I've always just I loved now is it my style I just I just love listening to it to like you know I love listening to Eddie when he talked about aunt bunny or you know or anybody that had to do it family bill when he was talking about his family it's just I always enjoyed the family stories so I guess indirectly when I started doing stand-up it just it just happened so Eddie had kind of apologized for things that he had said yeah in the past yeah he might as well get ahead of it I can't wait for the special to come out to be honest I really can't I'm not too excited really special I'm excited for coming to America too I'm excited for the movies I just think stand-up is so hard I think I think do whatever you want but the expectations to hide I think you'll pull it off though cuz every time he does like a panel like when he does interviews the stories he tells just sitting down are brilliant and I could just see it onstage him doing it different expectation and just think about the things he's gone through since the last comedy special so long ago that we haven't heard about I think I think we're all gonna be amazed by what he does it's gonna be me I went to it I saw Raw live when I was 15 I went to the South Seattle college see'em and that to this day that's the that's that's what made me want to become a comic well just sitting in the Coliseum and seeing him kill it Paul Mooney open for him it was the most incredible thing I've ever seen man so I can't wait for that to happen again like I had arguments with people because they were like uh he wasn't he wasn't funny on comedians and Carla coffee I'm like I don't think he was attempting to be funny yeah I don't think yeah that's not a standard interview I would think yeah but guys let me know that where the expectation is and then you got a whole generation people who don't know him at all hmm I know oh he's not as funny is I had to tell Carmichael I had to tell my son donkey like literally and I was like that that's the only way he knew who Eddie was which is still the greatest count in that cartoon was I mean that character was hysterical but I was just crazy that he doesn't know about 48 hours or Beverly Hills Cop nope don't know MIT no how do you ever found out meetings of course Eddie really coffee bean yeah walked up to and I was like I just want you to know mr. Murphy I watched you when I was 15 I saw raw I saved up a lot of money to see you and you're the reason why I do comedy anyway okay then he asked you for his mocha chocolate no sugar and then I go mr. Murphy what makes an ugly baby and do you need your time please these questions are gonna make me Millions take that money and flip shitty houses in Jersey [Applause] you say the toys stopping in the Philippines right no no we're gonna keep going I'm shooting my next no not stopping but it's got yeah well I can't wait man it's gonna be me or inna there I'm always we're actually shooting another Netflix special there so I know there are two years ago that was amazing the first one yeah yeah this time they're like okay yeah this one about me today home yeah I remember we talked about how he did that yeah man I love you over there yeah but you know they didn't I had to show him you know are you gonna let the Philippines in that flavie's oh yeah man when I went through there they had like this fool let's say no Manny Pacquiao he doesn't deserve to be here only me only one Filipinos big in this town we should go and do seminars there and flip some houses for 10 bucks you build some skies [Laughter] [Laughter] congratulations for winning a stand-up comic of the year thank you so much thank you I know those things do mean a lot that that was that meant to that meant a lot a lot it really did especially when you do stand-up it's like it's hard to get recognized just from just from people you know I mean like you when you tell someone that you're accounting they don't know who you're like oh cool all right love to come see you sometime like they don't know how hard this is and how hard it is to get recognized and and finally we receive that award in Montreal especially with the people that I was with it was larell and you know Tiffany was next to me and yeah Tiffany was so cool met me in together yeah man she just watched my kid when I used to do stand out like we helped each other you know I mean I was just talking to the other day and we were facetiming sure we were dying laughs because I was like you still got that that jean outfit she used to wear the same jean outfit at least three times a week at homeless Joe no no let me finish the story shirt has anyone called him a jerk yet this morning but yeah we were talking about that jean outfit it's just like man how far we've come you know what I mean it's just like such a beautiful thing it's like she used to wear it three times they should go but I look good didn't I go I had but I pretty sure those jeans but like it's not like far I would take my son to the last Factory when I was on stage he was like I'll watch him and then she would watch Joe so she's great man they ready unbelievable that makes us because she's so good with kids that's why the kids say the darndest things it's like it's so perfect for her when you watch it yeah and that and in fact I think that's the only time she likes my my pictures I asked her that the other why is that only my son nice room I go why is it only my son you like my pictures because that she I love your son we have a special bond how did you become friends with tisha Martin Campbell um she hit me up about the rice when I oh and I did the the joke about the racist you stop it's the hit of Asian person up about rice because I did it on the special oh we saw it didn't [ __ ] watch it being [ __ ] canceled coach Rita so I'm overreacting fake outrage fake outrage should be a hashtag yes let's start that fake outrage um no is the joke I did about the rice how to make rice and she just loved it and she hit me up and then you went to her crib and made rice she came to my house okay yeah and and we made rice together and and we've been friends ever since she's amazing by the way I've been lifelong friend I don't realize y'all just knew each other it's like we've known each other for a long time but you feel like you know them because it's just Gina you know yeah Gina and uh it is so cool that uh she appreciate she's come to my shows she's she's just so funny man and we do videos together it's it's so it's crazy that our relationship is taking off like then it all thought it would a DM it all started with the DM and she's going through a divorce yeah I know man she's really cool but you sayin you single right look at she's going through a divorce you single you're single no I'm not I'm not single oh why are you looking at the camera because this guy is the mat you know you should get when he retires a gold shovel because you knows how to dig speak in a racism why is he only a joke about making rice does she have a tongue does she have a turn she might need that for acting wouldn't you say hey Jo what makes an ugly baby you know Joe you and Isha probably make an ugly baby huh we appreciate you Jake what's due yes if I'm seeing you boy why are you here oh just to talk to you can't we be friends cause I love seeing will you show us that face again I don't know do you have shows in New York this weekend I got I got three at NJPAC there you go but they're sold out you came here just cuz you like us I love you can I say something I was going to say this publicly because I've always been trying to talk about my brother my brother do you know he has schizophrenia and he's always been in a hospital and it's always been hard for me to talk about my brother and and and when you you know they've come out about mental mental health in it that's so it's beautiful thing man so thank you so much I didn't mean to bring it down or or make it a TED talk but it does inspire me and I've been trying so hard you know cuz you I want to make sure I talk to him in a great light talk about him in a great light and I still want it to be funny yeah man it's real life in it and it you know I've seen a lot of [ __ ] it made me become a comic seeing what my brother did to our family and it's not a bad thing you know I mean it did you understand it when you was young no I didn't understand it you know I mean I was I was five when he went when he flipped you know I mean and uh and that's when that was the first time seeing him in the hospital I remember I couldn't wait to go to the hospital because he always gave me the foam slippers you know the foam slippers that they give you at the ward and I was so excited to see Robert that's how young I was I had no idea that he was dealing with something like that and the drone Ella now he's you know he's it's it's worse and he always needs attention and uh and it's just hard so like when you opened up like that man you've opened up to a lot of people and and now it's inspired me so I just want you to know that when you see me talking about therapy and stuff like that once you know it's because you so thank you so much for doing that about yourself in there uh but that everyone needs it man you know I mean and mental health is is is it's serious man not a lot of people don't deal with things they like to bottle it in especially my culture my mom will hold a grudge for 25 years you know I mean and then be like well did you learn your lesson and now we're both in our 50s it's like it doesn't make sense in like that that's what you need you need someone to talk to you need someone to tell you that you're wrong a lot of us think we're always right and and that's why relationships suck because you want to talk to your girlfriend but your girlfriend wants you to break with breakup with him since you guys got together you need to like go talk to someone and figure out maybe you were wrong you know he said he doesn't he doesn't like therapy because he doesn't want to he doesn't want the therapist to take away what he thinks made him that makes it yeah that makes sense give him the edge yeah but I think that's a different thing though because sometimes we need to hear someone that doesn't know you yeah to tell you that you're wrong you know I mean because if I go to like my my my sister or people that love me they're always gonna try and sugarcoat it and make it sound oh no no it's wrong but you're kind of right yeah you need someone thats like hey man you're [ __ ] wrong yeah like your baby is ugly yeah your baby's ugly you're ugly on the inside yeah it's true man so I really appreciate you doing that man it's a you've inspired me so much man I'm really trying to talk about my brother I did it one time with Aisha Tyler I did it on her pot I just started crying because I felt like the weight was lifted off my back cuz it's like every time that everyone always asked me like you know how many siblings yeah I always talked about my sisters and I never talked about my brother you know I mean because it's it's really hard man it's hard to talk to my brother on the phone you know I mean cuz he'll give you a glimpse of Robert and then he goes right into someone else and it's just that ends the phone call you get a lot of people I mean you have family moves that you keep in the back room people didn't know how to deal with those things yeah and now we can now we can get how's your mom have ever really discussed uh my mom I remember my mom man she's a champion cuz she stuck it out with Robert for the longest time I mean we're talking physical abuse mental abuse like I mean he physically you know he hurt a lot of us in the family so uh which is you know something that we we kept in that's the reason why I keep it in you're not I mean and to be able to talk about it it just makes me feel better that's why I know I keep saying that but like people like you thing it makes it I don't want to say cool does it make it cool we just eradicating the stigma by telling our story exactly everybody tells it he needs someone like you talk about it makes it like relatable right like oh [ __ ] Sharlene it's going through I can tell people that I went through it appreciate you and I'm glad your brother you know Thank You Man I'm glad too Charlie coming to terms with it yeah and you know so crazy people try to act like you know and people are talking about mental health now because it's like a like it's a cool thing to do as part of a marketing ploy but no people are just comfortable sharing their story exactly all it is mentally strong that's it that's a big thing to take care of man a lot of people don't know how mentally weak you are until you finally open up and talk about it and when you let it out just feels good I'm sorry I didn't mean to take it there come on I had to I had to tell you that in person my man and I gotta go visit my brother oh my god and that's and that's a tough one yeah that's really right yeah it's tough man because he gives you it like I said he gives you that he opened that window for a [ __ ] second you know I mean and you see old Robert you're like oh that's my brother and then and then the window shuts again and then you're like yeah yeah so anyways I hope you guys are crying on your way to work I got some money I'm about to invest guys are crying let's get some places in Queens days oh I Love You Man [Music]
