while we wait for the official release of baldur's gate 3 i'm going to continue to dive deep into several different quests and characters with the goal being to establish a really solid foundation of knowledge for this game and this goes for more than just understanding how to do things but also understanding what everything means in today's video we're going to venture into the dark and mysterious underdark region of early access and take a look at a few of the drow that we may encounter and see what quests may arise big thank you to all patrons and channel members of the channel i really appreciate you guys let's jump right in if you enter the underdark through the basement of the goblin fortress you'll end up in the selunite outpost if this is your first time playing early access make sure to take your time and enjoy this part as entering the underdark for the first time can be quite the memorable experience the first room on your right has a door that can be lockpicked or destroyed and in this room there is a chest that contains a speak with dead scroll you probably want to pick this up because it will be quite useful for what we're about to do it'll be even better if you've already obtained the amulet of lost voices from the crypt in the overgrown ruins the room on the left is an interesting room because one of the windows can actually give you a decent vantage point on a combat encounter that we will soon be getting into if you want to try this move a box in front of this window climb on top of it and leave one of your ranged characters here this is definitely not necessary especially with a full party but it's cool to see some of the things that you can do in this game if you just keep an open mind shout out to channel member zaiphiel for showing me that if you look through this window you may actually notice some stone statues of drow below and this is exactly where we're heading to throughout the rest of the outpost you'll see depictions of two eyes surrounded by a circle of seven silver stars and this is the holy symbol of the goddess of the moon seluna you'll even find a statue of seluna but be wary as the statue serves as a powerful outpost defense the magical moonstone that it holds gives power to the two statues in front of the gate allowing them to shoot what appears to be deadly radiant orbs at anyone who tries to enter or even leave the outpost to deactivate the moonstone you can just destroy it with any ranged attack or maybe you leave it active and lure some of your foes to the front gate i should also note that there's a fast travel waypoint located in the room to the right of the statue and it's probably a good idea to unlock it now it's time to head to the drow statues in earlier patches the best way to get to the drow was to use the lever to open the gate and then jump from the stairs over to the brazier on the left in my recent playthrough though i noticed that one of the tall windows inside the outpost no longer has defensive bars over it you can actually simply walk out of this window and skip the whole dangerous ledge scenario walking into this area you will be surprised by a creature called a spectator spectators are extra planar beholderkin that are native to the outer plane known as nirvana if you come across a spectator in the material plane it has most likely been summoned by a powerful wizard to serve as a watchful guardian the interesting thing is that most spectators are actually very peaceful and if you're not trying to steal or hurt whatever they are guarding they'll typically leave you alone many may freak out when they see one though as they are aberrations and one may mistake them for a small be holder beholders are large powerful and highly intelligent aberrations that were among the greatest threats to the worlds this spectator however is far from being peaceful and you will have to kill it if you want to survive this is not a combat guide video but the easiest way to do this is of course to set up your party beforehand meaning move three of your party members into an advantageous position perhaps even put them in stealth and then walk up to the area with your fourth party member to spawn the spectator as this combat encounter goes on the spectator will un-petrify the drow statues around you charm the drow and then have them attempt to kill you and your party once you kill the spectator though the drow will be charm free and you can then talk to them about the situation if you happen to have basilisk oil on you you can actually un-petrify any of the drought that may still be petrified however if you do this before the combat encounter it will start the encounter by spawning in the spectator if some or even all of the drow died during the spectator fight it's actually not the end of the world because there still is a way to get the information that we want in fact if you want to have a conversation with the drow that doesn't lead to hostility you'll actually want the drow that goes by the name of dorne to be dead before you kill the spectator so let's say that dorne is dead if you then talk to arcog moy tekathy and isway which are the less important npcs in this quest they'll tell you that they were hired by the wizard dorne and were promised riches in exchange for protection at some point a drow named zargrim who was a friend of dorne's came out from the shadows and dorne and zargrim ended up arguing the argument turned into screams and zargrim summoned a spectator and then fled these drow were caught off guard and petrified by this enhanced spectator because spectators don't typically have the ability to turn creatures to stone that's a beholder feature an unusual spectator at that adept at petrification the only thing that these drow know about the argument between dorne and zargrim is that there was talk of a pact and a forge these drow will then tell you that they're heading back home now we know something interesting is going on here and it's time to get to the bottom of it and speak with dorne himself since dorne is dead we're going to cast speak with dead on him [Music] we'll learn from dorne that he's from the city of menzo bronzen bronzen is the most well-known drow city in faerun and it's actually quite far away from where you are in early access in act 1 early access it takes place somewhere between the cities of el torrel and baldur's gate and menzo branson is located in the underdark very close to the dwarven city of mithril hall which is in the north of faerun we also learn that dorne is from house bottle and is a graven hollow scholar for those unfamiliar the city of menzo bronzen is a matriarchal society made up of different houses which are like factions and all of these houses viciously compete for power the vast majority of the city's citizens worship the evil goddess of spiders lolf and dorne and the drow that he hired here fall into this category as they are labeled as lolth sworn drow i couldn't find any information on this house bottle so that could just be a placeholder for early access or perhaps larian and wizards of the coast have created an entirely new drow house but there is actually some information on gravenhallow gravenhallow is a mystic library that's located in the underdark its exact location is not very well known or documented but it seems to be somewhere in this vicinity of course below the surface in the d d adventure module out of the abyss it says that graven hollow is a library that is outside the normal time of the planet of toril and nobody could find it without its keeper's will the library also remembers all who walk its halls as well as those who would visit the library in the future nobody knows who built grave and hollow but it was known to have existed since the dawn of giant kin why larian chose to reference this library as interesting to ponder on perhaps this will be a place that we'll be visiting in act 2 or 3. if you ask dorne if he carries anything valuable he'll tell you that he has a memory shard that reveals the location of an adamantine forge you will now have a quest called the adamantine forge but not much information on it if you then ask dorne how to use the memory shard he will tell you this true title activates dawn lord arch mage now it's time to see if we can activate it looting the shard off of dorne's body you can then right click on it and click unuse if you notice there are two options here if you are not able to ask dorne how to activate the shard because your time with speak with the dead ran out you still have the opportunity to do an arcana check and get the same information the memory shard will then give you visions of the adamantine forge your quest will update and you now have a pinpoint location of where you need to go to get to the forge this is of course the location down by the docks on the dwergar lake but we're not ready to go there just yet as we still want to find out more information going back a few steps let's say that you left dorne alive during the spectator combat encounter after the spectator dies a cut scene will automatically begin and you will be talking to doran himself you can actually get some more information out of him when he's alive but unfortunately he decides that he must then kill you because you've gained too much knowledge and this leads to a combat encounter against him and the rest of the drow no matter which dialogue that i tried with patch 7 i couldn't find a way around this dorn will tell you that his memory shard is fading and that his enemies must have already found the forge he then mentions zargrim and philro we know that zargrim is the one who summoned the spectator and fled but we have not heard the name philro until now he then says that if there was a master of the adamantine forge they would be known and feared so zargrim and philro must have turned back or perhaps they died in their search dorne says that if they had just surrendered their research to him they might have found the forge together and that zargrim and philro had information on the forge's defenses and operation so it seems like there's three powerful drow all of whom are trying to find this adamantine forge and all of whom have different knowledge on it they all likely want to become the master of the forge and then wield its power we have the forge's location now but let's go see if we can find zargrim and philro before that though make sure to loot dorne's body as he not only has the blast pendant amulet which is great for casters that use lightning can trips or spells but he also has icy health which can be combined with other materials to make a magical staff after further exploring the underdark you'll come across a myconid colony exploring the micanid camp you may notice a prison cell down on the lower level and in this cell there is a dead drow i'm not going to get into the mikenid quest in this video but if you help out sovereign spa he will have the myconid open up that cell for you so you can obtain the loot inside you don't have to do this quest though you can just kill the micanids and break in or you can use a little subterfuge by casting misty step when no one is looking once again it's time to use speak with the dead if you ask the drow who he is he will say so we found zargrim let's see if we can get some more information on this adamantine forge if you ask zargrim what his knowledge on the forge is he'll tell you that he knows the secret to its operation and that the secret is contained in a book disguised by magic after your conversation ends loot zargrim and you will find a book pick up the rest of his loot as well though as he does have one of the parts required to craft that magical staff that i mentioned earlier the book is titled flumph mating rituals a flumph is a mysterious benevolent wise creature that has a strong telepathic nature and feeds on psionic energy thumps are actually known to expose evil thoughts to good aligned creatures and when they come across these evil thoughts flumps will often times glow red and this can let adventurers know that evil monsters are lurking nearby as much as i would like to keep talking about flumphs we know from zargrim that there is more to this book than that when reading the book if you pass an investigation check the text on flumphs will magically disappear and text on the secret to forging adamantine will appear the book now reads among the sharons and sharons are just worshipers of the dark goddess shar dwelled the gnome saluv yali whose talents for wizardry were known from candle keep to sorsier candle keep is a famous library fortress that you visit in the original baldur's gate games in sorcerer is a school of magic that's located in the drought city of menzo bronzen under his tutelage the sharons built the great forge which could heat mithral with such vigor as to turn it to adamantine with astonishing metal they could mold the finest blades in armor yet the jewel of yali's eye was not the forge itself but the protector he conjured from the magma to guard it a construct said to be so mighty that no blade could fell it and no spell could pierce it if you flip the page you'll then see instructions on how to forge adamantine armor and weapons and the steps that you'll need to go through so we now know the location of this forge we know that there's a mighty construct that's guarding it that can't be killed with mirror blades or spells and we also know how to use the forge to make adamantine items it's now time to go try to find philro and see what information he has before you leave though make sure to loot the rest of the room as there are some great items including an awesome looking drow inspired cowl that gives the wearer the ability to go invisible once prolonged rest leaving the micanid county through the southwest exit you can take your first right or your second right which will bring you to an area filled with terrifying vulture-like humanoid creatures called hook horrors these are nasty little fellas so be careful as they will attack on sight fighting them in my opinion is easier if you take your first right as you'll have the high ground until they jump up to you but then you can knock them off the ledges if you're able to kill the first one before it sounds the alarm or if you just sneak past it you'll find philro the forgotten i wasn't able to find a way to activate a peaceful conversation with philro everything that i tried ended up in a combat encounter so after you kill phil roe and his band of hook horrors we are once again going to resort to speak with the dead he will tell you that he is phil roe the forgotten and forsaken and that his pack found him and fed him gnome flesh he was chasing the mystery and riddle even lie of the adamantine forge he must be saying this because he has not found it yet and is starting to believe that it's not true after the conversation ends you'll find some notes on his corpse that say protector guardian of the adamantine forge from magma rose only in magma destroyed hot hammer hot hammer and then below that you can see that he's looking for dorne to learn the location of the forge after you put away the notes your party will undergo a passive investigation check and if one of your party members is successful you'll learn a little more about what phil roe was talking about in the notes something's guarding that forge and it's weak to this hot hammer and your adamantine forge quest will update you now know of the great adamantine forge you know its location you know it's protected by a construct guardian and also that this guardian is weak to magma and a hot hammer sounds like we're now ready to head to the forge but i'll save that for a future video before we end here though let's make sure that we pick up the icy crystal on philro's body which is the last remaining part that you need to craft the magical staff that i mentioned earlier now that you have all three parts simply right click on the icy crystal click combine add in the other parts of the spear that we looted off of zargrim and dorne click combine once again and you now have the staff of morning frost unfortunately it's a little underwhelming but hey it's always fun to craft new stuff when you cast a spell or can trip the morning frost staff will give enemies frostbite and when an enemy has frostbite they take one extra cold damage any time that they're dealt cold damage so if you use ray of frost chromatic orb cold or a cold arrow on an enemy that has frostbite they'll take one additional damage and that will be it for today's video like i said in the intro please let me know if you enjoy these types of videos they take quite a lot of time to put together so i want to make sure that it's time well spent if you're new around here there is a link to my community's discord server in the video description we'd love to have you over there to chat about some baldur's gate 3 and other rpgs i'll catch you guys on the next one [Music] you
