so in today's video we'll take a look at all the race and sub race options in Baldur's Gate 3. just like with classes there are lots to pick between here with many unique abilities to further enhance and take advantage of in creating your perfect character of course there are some changes from the early access to the full game so we're going to talk about that in this video as well beginning with the elves they have the following passives this includes the Elven training which provides Proficiency in long and short swords short bow and long bow plus they also come with a dark vision which is one of the best passives to have in this game as it essentially lets you better see in the dark and this also means missing way less often when it comes to attacking creatures in dark areas they also feature Faye ansys 3 which provides an advantage on saving throws against being Charmed and Magic also cannot put you to sleep even how there's many effects like these in game and many enemies casting them they can be of tremendous help to avoid all this kind of C see now all variants also get extra perception proficiency which can be a great one to have at detecting things in the environment like hidden levers objects even stealthy characters or otherwise overhear conversations but in terms of sub-races we have the following two choices one of them is high elf and this gives you access to multiple cam trips that will not use a spell slot and also scale up with your intelligence modifier so if you go with a wizard high elf for example some of these can trips can become stronger as intelligence is going to be your primary stat otherwise there are some utility options here too if you go with something else and don't benefit from the intelligent scaling such as blade Ward or even friends so that you can reduce some of the incoming damage or even have better conversation checks now wood elf gives you Fleet of foods which basically increases how much you can move per turn by about 1.5 meters but also lets you gain an extra stealth proficiency the next ones are the Deep links they don't have any base speed penalties they also feature dark vision to also see in the dark and help with the hit raiding and they feature the hellish resistance which is going to reduce the damage from fire Onto You by half so lots of things will deal fire damage both early and later on which is what makes this passive to be so great in the long run however in the sub race categories there are a few really excellent options including the serial tiefling which is one of the most popular choices right now if you're going with a paladin as this features a searing Smite and a branding Smite starting level 3 and level 5 respectively which do not consume spell slots and instead they function once per long rest so you don't have to rest as often and still have options to Smite targets with these very powerful attacks Additionally you get some Authority can trip this gains you an advantage on intimidation and performance checks so if you find yourself intimidating a lot of NPCs and conversations this helps with that the next is the asmodeus T fling only starts with the produced flame at level 1 but the biggest Factor here is the hellish rebuke that you get in level 3. so this is a reaction skill so that the next time you take damage you can instead use your reaction to surround your attacker in really good fire damage and this automatically gets applied you don't have to preemptively like trigger it so it's always going to be there for you and there's finally the Mephisto fleece tiefling Mage hand is going to be an okay situational skill to have since this is invisible you can just like steal things without people noticing or just push them off high Cliffs but at level 3 and 5 you get burning hands as well as the flame blade spell that you can use once per long rest moving on next we have the drow which is basically the dark elf of bg3 they share lots of similarities with other elf races but do have a number of great advantages is one of them is the draw weapon training which provides proficiency with Rapier short swords and hand crossbows however Superior dark vision is what's taking the cake here providing you Vision in darkness up to 24 meters this is the best version you can get out of all of existing similar passives the fake ancestry here also has advantage on saving throws against being Charmed and Magic cannot put you to sleep so the same one as all others out there but they also gain some interesting class spells as they level including Fury fire dancing light and dark vision once you reach level 5 or the last one but these will make it for an excellent role going warlock who doesn't just get minimal to almost no penalties or fighting in the dark they can also cause Darkness themselves and obscure themselves or the enemies to prevent incoming or outgoing damage plus the race retains the same perception profession see as the regular elves which helps A Thon to detect stuff moving on next we have humans which feature the following pass saves the Civil militia is obviously the big one here it provides proficiency with Spears Pikes helberts and glaves as well as light armor proficiency and shields so you can totally pick maybe a sorcerer and that class doesn't really have any proficiencies with any types of armors in this case if you run with a human you can give that to them and increase your armor glass a little bit and be a little bit less squishy especially since Shields provide a to a c on their own so it can definitely be a viable option plus human versatility they let you select an additional skill to be proficient in and your carrying capacity is also increased by a quarter so generally humans can carry more however if you play in a party that's hardly going to be something you're going to notice too much the next ones are the geeth Yankee and they present a number of very strong active and passive options to choose between one of them is the astral knowledge which is a class action that lets you gain Proficiency in all the skills of a chosen ability and this lasts until a long rest so this is an incredibly good ability to have could possibly even mean that githianki can become the best multi-class race in entire Baldur's Gate 3. they also get an upgraded version of the Mage hand witch when summoned is considered outside of the combat so that you can use it right away instead of waiting and besides it's also capable of shoving enemies off Ledges throwing objects and it's invisible so it's quite useful and finally there's also martial Prodigy for light and medium armor proficiency as well as with short swords long swords and great swords so these yeah make for an absolutely great Barbarian absolutely great fighter maybe even Paladin in class if you want to go with that a level 3 they even gain a psionic jump which lets you boost your jump so that you can reach 3 times as far as before plus a misty stat at level 5 so not only are these the best movement mechanics in the game but imagine a Caster trying to make their escape from you with your own Misty stamp version you could literally just jump from across the other side of the planet and reach them in seconds the only disadvantage I think here is the non-axis the dark vision meaning that you're going to struggle a bit if you don't have other sources of producing light maybe a cleric in your party moving on to number six we have dwarves lower base racial movement than most other races because of their reduced size they also have the Dwarven combat training which provides proficiency with the battle axes and axes light hammer and warhammers they also have the dark vision which is really great Dwarven resilience providing an advantage on saving throws against poison and they are also resistant against poison damage now this class used to be one of the strongest in the early access before the stat changes however yeah it seems that they are no longer that and they don't get the extra advantages or the extra points in the strength and Constitution they used to get however yeah it's going to still be a decent-ish class to have both thematically and for what they provide their sub races are the shield dwarf which further gains a light and medium armor proficiency via Dwarven armor training the second one is the gold dwarf previously probably the meta this has the Dwarven toughness which essentially lets you have more HP so you gain extra hit points per level compared to all or almost all other classes and there's also the doergar provides Superior dark vision and the Dual resilience so there's again not many classes that have the superior Dark Vision Plus they gain advantage on saving throws against Illusions and against being Charmed or paralyzed at number 7 we have half elves these are somewhat similar default elves as they also have the same speed dark vision and the central Fae now they do get a couple of advantages but also a disadvantage compared to the mainline elves so the advantage here is having the extra proficiency with the light armors and shields via civil militia plus the spears spikes helmets and glaves this could theoretically help you with the squishiness when picking something like a sorcerer that doesn't have innate armor proficiencies themselves or if you want an alternative to well humans this is the class for that downside however is that you're losing the perception that elves and draw still seem to have on every sub race plus half elves used to have a mask of the wild which provided that extra stealth proficiency to the entire race however now it's been removed and only the wood half elf sub race has the stealth on top so this brings us to the sub races we have the high half elf which functions similarly to um yeah the main one and it also has the same can trips and the same intelligent scaling the wood half elf again the same Fleet of food movement bonus and of course this also gets the extra stealth proficiency and finally the drought half elf which provides dancing light can trip and also some other spells in there that can help quite a bit a bit borrowing from uh from the main line of drow but again it's probably going to be weaker than that moving on we have halflings at number eight now these have low movement speed but they do compensate with that the lucky perk so when you roll A1 for an attack roll ability check or saving throw you can re-roll the die and must use the new roll so this is a really incredible passive to have as it lets you to get more consistent dice rolls in fights but also in conversations or skill checks so if you missed a lot or especially if you critical Miss which happens one in 20 rolls on average this helps a ton with that bring Brave is also a passive that provides advantage on saving throws against being frightened and there are a lot of frightened debuffs in the game this can help with that even more for the sub races we have two the light foot Health Link which is naturally stealthy providing advantage on stealth checks and finally the strong heart halfling this provides the resilience if you have advantage on saving throws against poison and resistance to poison damage and this brings us to their better version which is the gnome now they have a number of ratios that are really really strong one of them is the cunning this provides advantage on intelligence wisdom and Charisma saving throws this can also help a ton with Mage CC like hold person possibly even sleep to evade that or at least to not be trapped as often in them possibly a great fit for a monk 2 since they tend to be in the front lines a lot but they are kind of lacking some of the defensive capabilities of some of the other races like barbarians and pal paladins the three options we have with the sub races are the rock gnomes they have the artificer's lore adding twice your proficiency bonus to history checks and you also have dark vision pretty much all sub races in this category have dark vision then there's the forest gnome they speak with animals so theoretically it can be good for a non-druid starter class to get more interactions from Level 1 since there are quite a few benefits early on to speak with animals and finally the Deep gnome my favorite this has the superior dark vision so only one of the other classes that comes with it as well as the stone camouflage an advantage on stealth checks so because of all of these right here that resistance to CC that advantage on stealth that Superior dark vision and just because gnomes are very recognizable and cool moving on next we have Dragonborn and this doesn't really feature many passives like some of the other options but in fact it kind of compensates with the many sub-race options that it comes with and there are a lot of them types of dragons you can pick between that all feature different dragon breath type class actions for fire Frost lightning and acid breath plus extra resistances to those specific Elements which in turn reduces the damage that you take from them by half and this is going to help you a little bit if you go in combat and you want an extra ability a bit of AOE on top of everything that you have up until that point however don't expect for the range to be too large neither the AOE it just helps you if you are very close to your target so maybe a melee range maybe even a paladin could work very well for a Dragonborn and finally we have again one of my favorites which is the half org it comes with a bass racial speed like all others dark vision to help you in dark places but most important Relentless endurance which if you ever reach zero hit points you regain one hit point back in instead of becoming fully downed this is an incredible skill to have as it's essentially a chief death slash self-resurrection there are entire legendary weapons that are centered around this power and yeah half Orcs get it since basically level one they also have the Savage attacks and this is another incredible melee kind of ability to have when you land the critical hit with a melee weapon your damage dies are tripled instead of doubled so you essentially deal a triple damage crit instead of just a double one however a barbarian would be completely busted for this race as the class gets an additional crit at level 9 via the brutal critical passive which lets you roll an additional damage die on top so you will have a total of four so that means quadruple of the critical damage that you normally do plus they fit very well with Barbarian in my opinion so that's just me in any case this is it with the video let me know down below which one of these you went with and what is your perfect starting character in the meantime thanks so much for watching and I'll see you in the next video
