so guys this is Braden with Langley firearms Academy and I'm coming at you right now with another bullet comparison this time it's the age-old 9-millimeter vs. 40 caliber and as you can see right here I have the 40 caliber on the right and a nine millimeter on the left so guys before I get started I'm just gonna do a little history and I want to maintain that I'm trying to be as factual as impartial as possible in this video I do have a preference of these two rounds but I'm going to lay out the facts as easily and as nonpartisan as possible so let's get going the nine-millimeter is a great round is developed in 1902 by a guy named George Luger Luger Germans 1902 old round very very effective round the 40 caliber bullet was made in 1990 by the FBI well actually by Smith & Wesson in conjunction and at the request of the FBI in the United States FBI so kind of got a German versus United States kind of thing going on we won last time so we'll see what happens this time one more piece of information on the 40 caliber it's designed to be an intermediary bullet so it's designed to be in between the 9 mil and the 45 ACP so it's supposed to have more mass like a 45 and more velocity like a 9 mil so with that said let's dive into it so one of the main arguments is always well nine bills are faster round but 40 has more mass but it doesn't really matter because the 9 mil with that extra velocity creates more stopping power I personally don't subscribe to that method but we'll get into in a second so Hornady one of my favorite manufacturers I have a lot of bullets from Harding I have some right here actually little super match 308 bullets great manufacturer but they came out with critical duty and they claim that their nine-millimeter critical duty can be just as effective as a 40 caliber bullet when they add more powder behind it and basically they get same the same penetration between the two rounds so their argument is the nine mil can penetrate as deeply as a 40 caliber for me that's kind of a wishy-washy area for example the 9 mil is meant to be a light fast round it's 115 grains however with that said the 40 caliber bullet the normal practice rounds are 165 grains so there's a significant amount of mass weight difference between those two rounds often they can be loaded to the same velocities you can download a nine-millimeter and kind of heavy heavily load or keep a 40 Cal right at the same level and you're going to get the same velocities so my only caveat to the whole 9 mil versus 40 caliber argument is if you are trying to make a 9-millimeter like a 40 caliber bullet why not just use a 40 caliber bullet if one is a hundred and sixty-five grains and one is 115 grains and they're traveling at the exact same constant speed the 40 caliber bullet is going to stop somebody much faster than a nine-millimeter bullet which is at 115 grains it's just mass at that point just physics force that's it mass times acceleration that's it it's simple physics so for me the 40 caliber bullet is more effective the accuracy is the same the trajectories are the same they fit in the same guns for crying out loud the only thing different is the chamber of the barrel the 19 and a 23 and Glock those two handguns they're the exact same frame but they fire completely different cartridges the 9 mil for the 19 and the 40 caliber for the 23 but for my money I go with the 40 just because I can I believe that I can stop somebody quicker with a 40 than with a 9 mil I'm not saying one round is better than the other that's just my own preference the one last thing I'll leave you guys with is a lot of my buddies will say well 9 mil I can shoot more bullets more quickly and hit them hit a threat more efficiently well if you've got to shoot two bullets and the time that I can shoot one what's the point at that point I believe 40 kind of shines through with more mass and that's just like I said my own belief and that's why I shoot 40 but guys the last thing that I'm gonna say it's just thank you for watching I wanted to do 9-millimeter vs 40 caliber because this is a highly contentious debate um and all of my gun friends my gun trainer buddies everybody that I know always debates 9-millimeter vs 40 caliber and hopefully I've shed some light on the subject for you guys please leave comments below I love getting those conversations started and I love having that dialogue with my subscribers and also any random fans you happen to come across the page for that information but with that said guys I've got some other things I got to go bounce bounce to but please subscribe and catch me on the next video got a lot of crazy awesome stuff coming in in January of 2015 so bear with me and we'll go from there I will see you guys on the next one you
