hey folks wish Essie up here in New Hampshire I've had multiple requests for the subject that we're going to discuss today and generally I just stayed out of it because I think it's somewhat silly however after you know whatever the hundred hundredth subscriber that's asked me for my opinion on the 45 versus 40 versus 9-millimeter debate I thought I'd give you my two cents so in front of us right here we have 9-millimeter 40 Smith & Wesson 45 ACP this is all the Ranger T line that's a really great quality defensive ammunition and certainly would serve you well all of these are performance hollow points so they should do a decent job in the event you had to use any of these calibers so here's my two cents on nine versus 40 versus 45 whatever caliber allows you to get hits on target quickly and effectively counts more than having one bullet versus another bullet what does that mean what it means is statistically seven out of every eight people shot with a handgun survived largely due to trauma care and the high level of trauma care that we have in the United States we know handguns are relatively ineffective tools they're used because we can't carry a long gun with us or shotgun with us at all time so a specific caliber or a specific type of handgun to me is less important than the operators ability to be efficient proficient and effective delivering hits on target shot placement not the specific caliber is the key defining feature in neutralizing a threat so a lot of misses with a nine millimeter equate to a lot of misses a lot of misses with a 45 equate to a lot of messes in fact it's hits specifically hits here or in the ocular cranial area that are most likely to neutralize a threat I started shooting 45 1911's because I just love that platform I still love that platform I think it's an excellent one I then went to nines guess what I can shoot a nine faster and more accurately than I can shoot a 45 not because the 45 isn't an awesome caliber but because I've got really small hands and I've got a handicap with my left hand which doesn't allow me to do what I need to do to really mitigate the recoil and control that gun so I can bring the front sight back where I want it and get the hits I then ran 40s for a long time and I think the 40 cartridge is an excellent caliber again what I found was that I shot the 9-millimeter faster and more accurately than a 40 what I want to get hit with in these cartridges absolutely not the point I'm trying to make here is we spend a lot of time and certainly there's a lot of good marketing that's done by the gun manufacturers and by the ammunition manufacturers around what's the right cartridge and what I'm telling you is find a handgun that you can safely and effectively manipulate that you can put hits into you know the area that you want to get hits on target and that you can be confident with and that caliber is far more effective for you than another for someone else to me it makes no difference whatsoever what I shoot is a 9-millimeter why I'm more effective with it it's also from an economic standpoint easier for me to shoot a lot more of that particularly of reloading it than it is with these other calibers do I think the 45 is a great caliber absolutely do I think two forty s an awesome caliber absolutely so whatever gun with whatever cartridge and caliber that works for you and allows you to get hits on target safely and effective is a great caliber bottom line you need to practice with whatever gun you're using and you need to really have that level of confidence based on your proficiency that you can get hits on target safely and effectively so that's my two cents thanks so much for watching and as always stay safe you
