[Music] guess when it comes to survival and prepping we have to really look long-term you know whether its long-term food storage long-term water supply a medical and a lot of different things but self-defense is also at the top of that list you need to be able to protect not only yourself and your family but also what you've put together and so with that in mind we've done a lot of thinking about what is the perfect self-defense handgun we're gonna take a look at why I think that the Glock is the ultimate self-defense sidearm I do understand that there are a lot of other handguns out there that are equal to or superior to the Glock sometimes with ergonomics sometimes use features but one of the things about the Glock is that it is plug-and-play and that there are so many different companies making aftermarket parts that way beyond any other handgun now with all the different handguns that are available to us guys I've said it a number of times we live in the Golden Age of firearms so I'm not saying that Glock is the best but what I am saying is for the prepper it's gonna be very difficult to beat Glock first off it is extremely reliable and durable I've called it a number of times the ak-47 of the handgun world it just works it just functions now one of the things that I said was is plug and play and that means that you can put parts in here easily without any fitting they're very uniform the quality control of Glock parts is exceptional and so any part that I need to replace on here I can do it now one of the things about that is a lot of people feel like that you don't really need that because Glocks are reliable but parts do break and we're going to get together with Robbie wheat and we're going to talk about those parts in particular but there are an abundance of parts available from the factory or even aftermarket parts you can get them for the Glock and they're fairly inexpensive it does have a huge aftermarket support whether it's sites magazines holsters whatever and magazines are big part of why this gun is my choice as well for a survival situation because of the different companies that make magazines but also the 33-round magazine to me is something that there's just a lot of things around that and we're going to take a look at that as well you've got different barrel options now one of the things that to me is huge and in a survival situation I would recommend first the Glock model 23 or 22 because it's in 40 caliber and there are police trade ins that are running around the three hundred dollar range at this time aim surplus has an abundance of them but the big plus with that is that you can get a nine millimeter conversion barrel we're gonna take a look at that as well so there's just a lot of things that go around why I think the Glock is the best preparation now the inspiration for this video came from Robbie at Wheaton Arms we were just talking about Glocks and shooting and you know he just brought up it's the ultimate survival pistol because of just the ease in being able to maintain these firearms first off these are very simple guns and there's no fitting that's involved there's none of that that goes on and yet there are some parts that can fail which makes it easy to prepare so we went down to Robbie's shop and looked at those parts that were most likely to go out alright so let's talk about some of the parts with the Glocks that that we see that failed on a pretty regular basis and I've got these laid out in order of what we see the most failures of - the least failures with the Glock pistols so we'll start here with the striker spring or the firing pin spring this part we see this fell on a very regular basis and what you'll start noticing this spring is you'll get a light primer strike you'll pull the trigger the striker will hit the primer but the round will not go off you rack the slide take the round out there'll be a little small dimple in the primer and most of the time you can put that primer back in the gun drop that round back in the gun pull the trigger again and it'll go off the second time that can be caused by hard primers or it can also be caused by the firing pin that where the bikers spring wearing out and normally we lean toward the striker spring wearing out and replace that and generally that takes care of that issue that's one of the parts that I would definitely keep in your in your survival kit for the Glock pistols the second part is your trigger return spring what normally fails on this spring is the loop here on this end will break or the loop on this end will break and when that breaks the trigger will stay to the rear just like this triggers to the rear slide will write the gun will fire but the trigger won't reset it'll stay to the rear like this so another good part to keep in your in your survival kit so this is your takedown lever spring this is your takedown lever on the Glock the spring goes under this lever on the inside of the frame what happens the spring will break usually here in this bend when the spring breaks the lever will drop down and the slide can actually come off the front of the gun when you're firing it with the takedown lever this is another piece you'll want to replace and keeping your survival bag this little lip here is what catches your barrel and holds the slide and Barrel on the frame this lip can wear out and then that limp wears out the slide can come out for the frame again when you're shooting the slide stop normally this part here doesn't break what breaks is the spring on the slide stop what will happen with this part breaks is the slide will lock to the rear with round still in the magazine you can thumb this down and continue shooting but if you're not holding down the word pressure on the slide stop it'll continue to lock to the rear until you run out of rounds in your magazine so the next part is the trigger pin and we see in the last ten years we've seen probably 40 to 50 of these fail and what will happen it'll break right in one of these little junctures here when the pin breaks nine times out of ten you're not even going to notice it you look down at your pistol you see the pin in the in the gun you'll see it in both sides and you can't figure out why your guns suddenly starting to jam one Xtract gonna eject you get a dead trigger where it stays to the rear like this there's all kinds of problems with it and until you take this pin out you won't know that it's broken because it the polymer holds the pin in the frame so when you get to take the pin out the end piece here will come out then the other half of the the pin will come out the last couple of parts here we've got a gen one through three mag catch chenna jan 4 & 5 magazine catch that what happens with these this little shelf here is what hooks into the lip on the magazine to keep the magazine in the frame over time this lip on this plastic mag catch will wear out and your magazine won't stay in the gun anymore when you're shooting you'll pull the trigger gonna shoot magazine and hit the ground you'll pick it back up and stick it back in the gun and rack the slide shoot another round and it continues to fall out sometimes it'll do it every shot sometimes it it'll only do it one every 2 or 3 rounds in a magazine so there's no rhyme or reason to it but it's it's one of those parts that once a magazine starts falling out of the gun it's time to replace the magazine catch now highly recommend going to Wheaton Arms checking out their kits for you know they're essential kits and also their complete parts kits I really feel like having the complete parts kit would be the best way to go and not only one but maybe two or three have them packed away one in your bug out bag one just you know in your range bag one in your vehicle I mean keeping those handy just in case another thing to guys is if you're doing a lot of customizing of your firearms keep the parts that you're putting aside if you're replacing the trigger keep it if you're replacing the takedown lever whatever you're replacing just keep it including the sights even the polymer sights even though they do get damaged the thing is is having a stockpile of parts aside from that is also smart there are tons of Glock 40 police trade ends and did a video why that is a great option I wanted Robbie to talk about his conversion barrels to 9-millimeter the police trade ends right now for the Glock 22s and the Glock 23 s you can pick those 40 caliber guns up relatively cheap compared to compared to the price of a new gun from one of the big things that we decided to do with those was to offer the 9-millimeter conversion barrels for the 40 caliber pistols some of the reasons why was to to help improve the accuracy of the gun by increasing the lockup the reliability of the pistol some of the things that we've we've had questions about in the past have been well with the 40 caliber extractor and ejector work in the nine-millimeter and the answer is yes if the barrel is machined correctly and fitted correctly and cut correctly for the particular model then the factory 40 caliber extractor and ejector will work fine you don't have to replace those parts if you just decided that you wanted to get those parts and put nine millimeter parts in your gun you can but it's definitely not needed the gun is just as reliable with the 40 caliber parts in it some of the benefits of putting a nine millimeter barrel in your 40 caliber is now you've got two calibers and one gun you can shoot 40 caliber in it you can shoot nine millimeter in it another question that we get often is why can't I just put a Glock 19 barrel in my 40 caliber and the reason for that is the barrel diameter on the 40 caliber is larger than the barrel diameter for the Glock 19 9 millimeter so it's about 21 or 20 mm slardar so you you have to get the the larger diameter 23 conversion barrel to work in the in the Glock 23 or the Glock 22 the Glock 23 9-millimeter conversion barrel that's that's one of our top selling barrels that we have out of all the models that we built barrels for and we offer these barrels in the standard length we also offer these barrels in a threaded model so you can put a silencer on the end of your pistol that's that's another option especially for a survival situation to be able to shoot subsonic silenced ammo in your gun it really cuts down on the muzzle blast of the pistol but I remember a few years ago when nine-millimeter was scarce and 40 was the only thing that you know you could consistently find and so having that 40-caliber can be really important absolutely and to go along with that your your 40 caliber magazines that come with the Glock in a survival situation the 40 caliber mags will work with non millimeter they're just not quite as reliable as dedicated nine-millimeter magazines are and you know - done with these guns there's there's a ton of aftermarket support for the Glocks so you know where there's other pistols that you can buy that'll work just as well but there just isn't the aftermarket support or even the manufacturer OEM support for parts and accessories for those particular pistol there's a lot of different police trade ins you know whether it's Smith & Wesson is Sig others that are in the 40 caliber but you're right I mean the Glock barrels are just so out I mean they're just so available they are there's just so many aftermarket parts available for the for the Glocks that it's it's just a no-brainer to go with that gun especially for survival gun we're gonna go ahead and just I'm gonna show you how easy it is just to break this pistol down bring back our takedown tabs recoil spring go off your barrel insert the conversion barrel okay and you just go to nine-millimeter that is how quick that is if you can clean your gun you can change out this barrel to me it's just a no-brainer is one of the reasons why I own a few of these police trade ins because I can just throw a 40 you know a nine-millimeter barrel in there that's right so easy so freakin easy and again if I want to go to 40 I can do it so two calibers in one also you can go with the Glock MOS which accepts the you know little arm ours or different red dot microsites and that is to me a big plus and if you don't want the site you can go with a standard plate now one of the big things about the Glock is it retains its sights on it even if you're using the RMR but if you take it off course obviously you can use this just as a Glock 19 but as far as just shoot ability I love the Glock G 19 X one of the things though about the G 19 is it does accept only 17 round magazines you can't put your standard 15 round magazines and that is a thing to consider and that's one of another reason why I really like the Glock 19 it can accept the 15 rounds it can accept the 17 round or the 33 round and so this gives you even more magazine options with the model 19 magazines are also a big plus for Glocks one of the big things is the 33 round magazine and this is a factory magazine they're very reliable and then of course you have your standard magazines as well this is your g 19 x 19 round magazine and so you have some higher capacities but also you have aftermarket support like these ETS mags and these are excellent mags even there are 33 rounders there you know all their different mags and then of course Magpul makes mags and Second Amendment and a number of other companies the one brand that I would probably steer clear from are the Korean mags some of those especially the extended mags I've had a lot of issues with them and so I would really stick with your factory mags or maybe ETS or Magpul mags Magpul mags I have had a little issues with those and so typically I stick with the Glock factory mags but I've also had good success with the ETS mags but because of the 33 round magazines there are a lot of companies that have made AR pistols and other type pistols that accept Glock mags but pistol caliber carbines that except block mags are a big advantage if you're carrying a standard Glock you know on your hip so that is a two-fold effect I really think that Glock mags really bring everything together for a survival option now when it comes to aftermarket triggers you know there is some people that say you know you're going away from reliability and you know stick with the factory trigger these this is a flat faced trigger from Wheaton arms and it's one of the things that I really love it's a great shooting trigger it's all metal and we talked to Robbie about what about switching out triggers one of the things that we've done is extensively tested these triggers but Robbie said himself guys at least have a factory trigger at least a couple and you can have them back because the main thing is is for that gun to continue to shoot with the plastic triggers some of the things that can fail with it with it being plastic there's a little hinge pin in here that this rotates own and the trigger can break over time it can wear out over time by switching out to an aluminum trigger that's one of the things that we've addressed is the the longevity of the firearm with the aluminum trigger over the plastic trigger the trigger bars are essentially the same you know very very low failure rate with them but the the polymer trigger itself you get a little flex with it and that part can fail over time so we've upgraded that to a 7075 type 3 hard coat anodized trigger for longevity and reliability and we went through it and we've addressed a lot of the issues that you see with with the aftermarket triggers where people talk about they're not as reliable so we've addressed a lot of the reliability issues with those triggers in in our design to help make that trigger more reliable especially for a for survival or defensive weapon well look at this I mean you can see the crisp crisp aluminum cuts I mean how it's very well done this way and the polymer you know it's it is polymer it's just an injection molded part right and so not that these do not hold up well guys I'm not we're not saying that and you know if that's what you want you should have at least another replacement any of your survival kits you should have a replacement trigger assembly whether it's one of the plastic ones or whether it's one of our upgraded aluminum ones but you absolutely should have a replacement trigger assembly in your survival essentials kit now Gen 5 is the new Glock but it is not any more reliable than a lot of the older models so this is their gen 3 model 19 I've had this thing for many years I love the G 19 and the gen 3 but one of the things about it there are just some advantages for me personally that I like that the gen 5 brings to the table but it does not limit the reliability and all the features that Glock offers and so you can definitely go with whatever generation you know that you have or that you want to purchase I know in California they can only own the gen 3 or below and so that limits them but the Jin 3 is still an excellent handgun I have a gen one that I love it's the 23 it's a 40 caliber and I have a 9 millimeter conversion barrel for it so guys to wrap things up whatever is your go-to firearm in a survival situation just make sure you have the extra parts that you can repair replace and keep your gun maintained keep it running because you need to keep this thing in top condition if your life is depending on it the one thing about the Glock is that there is an abundance of parts there's an abundance of aftermarket support you do have your extended mags that are very readily available of course you know with the conversion barrels again that's a big plus I can go from 9 to 40 and so you know but of course I need to have my 40 to do that and the prices are super cheap on police trade ends and then of course you can as a just a layman as an armor you can replace all the parts yourself now guys you may not be a Glock fan you may like other type pistols and that's fine carry the other pistols but definitely have a Glock in your arsenal with the police trade ends that are coming in especially in the 40 caliber and then switching over to the 9-millimeter conversion like we talked about it gives you two guns for one and there's just a lot of benefits and the price is right now I've gotten a lot of guns from a surplus and I definitely want to recommend those guys but again Robbie Wheaton of Wheaton Arms is putting together some really cool packages and I think it's just a smart way to go to have the essentials and maybe even a little beyond no matter what happens you'll be able to continue maintaining your firearm way on into the future and again I want to thank Rob you Eaton for taking time to go through a lot of these details we are going to be doing an upcoming video on the suit's channel and we're going to be testing some of the failure points of the Glock actually out on the range and so I think that's going to be a very interesting video it has been interesting for me Robbie has been in the firearm business in gunsmithing and repair for over 20 years so he really knows what he's doing he sees a lot of things and so I think that a lot of things we brought up guys are real-world issues and problems you know for me I've never had any problems with any Glock except for a Gen 4 one time that just had some reliability issues but otherwise I've never worn one out even shooting thousands of rounds through but Robbie even said that he's had guys that have only put 500 rounds that have had parts to break so guys be smart it's a machine things will go wrong things will wear out and while we're prepping and preparing it's just a smart move to have your firearm and your means for self-defense covered so guys if you're serious about prepping in survival check out survival dispatch insider it is one of the best resources on the web there's a lot of experts that have come together their own survival dispatch I upload one video exclusive a week to the insider I'll have a link down below in the description click on it and check it out be strong be of good courage god bless america long live the Republic [Music] [Music] now Glocks are typically very reliable [Laughter] we laugh baby we laugh with rounds still in the chamber and to insert the barrel then what I was gonna say you want to lead in yeah yeah which is since the last time you're sitting everybody know me and I'm waiting on you or like good answer you
