like the crack of noon or the crack of 5 pm,
wherever you happen to be. - Hot and ready! - But there's a crack, and you're there. - Whenever you watch, it's
a Good Mythical Morning. Hot and ready, that's us. - Hot and ready isn't our thing. - I'm hot, and he's ready. - No, hot and ready is not our thing. Hot and ready is Krispy Kreme's thing because that was the
point I was gonna make, is that just like we
deliver an episode to you, Krispy Kreme delivers
you hot fresh doughnuts, hot and ready every day. Have you ever been there
when they're just coming right off the line and gotten a fresh one? - You know I have. I mean, back in the day
going over to Peace College and waiting at that Krispy
Kreme for the light to come on. - I remember that. - And for those delicate doughnuts to fall off of that conveyor belt. I mean, being North Cackalacky boys, Krispy Kreme, it started
back in our home state. - It sure did. - So, the roots run deep with this one. - Okay, so what we're gonna do today, is we're gonna taste all of
the Krispy Kreme doughnuts, because somebody's gotta do it. And we're going to figure out which one is the hands down, bellies up, best Krispy Kreme doughnut flavor. Not a sponsor but, you're
welcome Krispy Kreme. It's time for Gut Check,
Krispy Kreme doughnuts edition. - So, we went all the
way back to the source. We got Chase to have a correspondence with the Krispy Kreme headquarters. And what he found out was that there is a core list of flavors that every Krispy Kreme
doughnut shop sells. And then on top of that,
each locality has the option of adding in a few on top of
that, from their larger list. - So, here's what we're going to do. We are going to be tasting every doughnut from that core list, that all of the Krispy
Kreme locations sell. But we're also tasting the
most popular varieties, or varietals, I like that, that are local to certain
parts of the country. And we got our local Burbank Krispy Kreme to make those special for us. And that amounts to 23 doughnuts. - Yeah, I actually thought
it would've been more, but you know what, we're
not gonna eat fritters. Actually we are gonna eat fritters because they do consider that a doughnut. We are gonna eat bars, but
we aren't gonna eat eclairs, because according to them, those aren't technically doughnuts. - And we're also not
going to eat any special, limited time doughnuts. Again, 23 doughnuts, the core plus the most popular special ones. - We're gonna be hand fed each one, we gotta rate them, just
using our gut instincts, and our actual guts, on a
scale of one to one hundred. - And then that will be
combined for a final score for each doughnut, and
then the top four doughnuts make it to the very end,
we'll have a slower, you know, closer inspection
of those four doughnuts, to determine the winning doughnut, which we will be declaring
the Holy doughnut. - Okay Stevie, we're ready. - [Stevie] Gentleman, you'll be tasting a lot of doughnuts today, so if you need to cleanse your palate at any time, you have official shots of
milk wash available to you. You may rinse with these. - Oh that's not, it doesn't
have back wash in it. - Can I swallow it? - It's just milk, right? - [Stevie] No, I mean, I
cannot disclose the recipe. - Of milk wash. - [Stevie] The first category is the Glazed and/or
Iced doughnut category. This includes traditional style doughnuts and cake doughnuts, all of which have been iced, glazed, or both. If you're ready, we will begin. - Lot of pressure here, lot of pressure. - [Stevie] Starting with Original Glazed. - Oh yeah - Oh yeah, hot and ready. - Mm, oh man. - That's soft. - I mean, everything about it is great, that's like a pillow that
you can take a bite out of with some sweet flavors. - Classic, eight, oh I'm going- (Rhett and Link laugh) It goes to 100. - How about 80? - 91. - Okay, I'm gonna say 85. Because it, I mean, you
could add more to it. - That's good. - [Stevie] Maple Iced Glazed. (Rhett and link exclaim) - Mm, look at that, I'm
in Canada all of a sudden. - I like it, but the maple
actually takes it down a little bit for me. - 64. - I'm gonna say 71. - [Stevie] Chocolate Iced Glazed. - Oh man.
Okay, this is good.- - This is almost as classic as classic. - That chocolate is nice, 86. - 89. - [Stevie] Chocolate Iced
Glazed with sprinkles. - Ope, sprinkles. - Oh, what's that? Sprinkles are like the food of glitter. - They add a little bit of crunch, but they make me feel like
a child and I'm a man, 72. - Mm hmm, Mm hmm, I
don't like them at all. I'm gonna give them 43. - Oh, wow, sprinkles did that much for it? - Yeah. - [Stevie] Strawberry Iced. - Oh yeah? Whoa. - I'm not a huge fan of
strawberry icing flavor on a doughnut. - It's like I'm eating
strawberry shortcake- - 54. - dessert. 20. I just don't like it. - Oh, wow. - [Stevie] Strawberry Iced with sprinkles. - Oh well, this is only gonna get worse. - Oh, the sprinkles are helping this time. No they're not. - 31. - 19. - [Stevie] Glazed Sour Cream. - Oh yeah! - What? - That's a cake doughnut. - You got some density. - Oh baby. - That's an interesting, it mixes it up, that takes me into, - 84. - like a 69. - Oh, come on man, that
was better than that. - [Stevie] Glazed Chocolate Cake. - Oh yes. - This is my go-to doughnut. - I remember back when
I was in Panama City that one spring break, I was
on a big kick with these. - 94. - Whoa! - I love that doughnut! - It's really good, but I
mean, I'll give it an 83. - Oh, what? You, okay. - [Stevie] Apple Fritter. - Oh, look at this, look at that pile of icing in the middle,
let me get to that. - I always thought this
was an old mans doughnut, but I'm getting older every day. - Ooo that's good. - I like it. - No actual apple pieces. - 73. - 73, I agree. - [Stevie] Okay boys, if you
need a palate cleanser break, now is the time. - I think I need it. - [Stevie] Because we're moving on to the Filled doughnut category. Most of these doughnuts have no holes, but plenty of filling. - Okay. - [Stevie] We begin with
Original Filled Chocolate Kreme. - Oh, Chocolate Kreme? - Go deep enough to get the cream. Whoa. It's getting the
rim, it's still got a hole. - Yeah, it's still got, I
was like, what happened? Hold on, that- - I'm so surprised by that. - It just tastes like a
bunch of cake icing inside of that thing. - It's not the best.
The ratio is off.- - 58. - I'm saying 69. - [Stevie] New York Cheesecake. - Oh yeah. - Oh yeah? That looks cool. - Oh, I like that. - That is good, but a bit gimmicky. - 76, I mean, I would get one of those. - I'm already losing interest. There's a little lemon in there. 49. - [Stevie] Glazed with Kreme Filling. - Okay. I really like that because you got the- - Fluffy inside. - original doughnut, but then some glaze that's not too overpowering,
that is a 82 for me. - There is an emptiness
that I'm feeling inside, just like in the doughnut. - It's filled with cream. - But it's mostly air. - Okay. - 57. - [Stevie] Chocolate
Iced with Kreme Filling. - Oh yeah. - Oh. Again, more of that cream filling, but you add in the chocolate that at least gives 10 points additional. Which would be a 69. Which is too special of
a number for this. 68. - I'm gonna say 79 for that. - You likey? - Yeah, I like it. - [Stevie] Chocolate Iced Custard Filling. - Oh, custard, here we go! - Now I call this a Boston Cream. Don't at me. - Custard, better than cream. A lot to like about this. Whoa, yeah, still happening, 87. - Lots to discover, 91. - Oh, okay. - [Stevie] Original Filled Original Kreme. - Oh, too much original. - Oh wow. - It's kind of a remix of
something I've already had. - The cream- - I like the ratio, I like
the cream, I really do. - The cream is too sugary, you know, I want that custard experience. - 80. - 47. - [Stevie] Glazed Raspberry Filled. - This is, this one feels a little, - Oh yeah, I like a fruit filling. - A little fruit healthiness. This one's good for you. - It's not healthy. - It's real good for you. - Again, this is one that, if I don't get the Chocolate Glazed, I start looking for this one. And today, I didn't have to look. I just found it in my mouth. - 68. 68 I said. - No, no, this is a 83. - Oh wow, Rhett. - I love it, man. I'm eating doughnuts,
I'm having a great time. - [Stevie] Glazed Lemon Filled. - Okay. I shouldn't even score this one because he's gonna hate it so much. - Not as bad as I thought,
which was really bad. 34. - Not my favorite. 57. - Woo, my stomach. Are you
having a sugary sensation? - Yeah, and it's all good. - Like the pre crash? - No, not yet. - [Stevie] Powdered Strawberry Filled. - Oh, powdered. Not glazed. You gotta be careful not to breath in when you bite into this thing. - I really liked that raspberry filling. - I'm not a big fan of powder, because it doesn't have much of a taste. And again, you can choke on it. - You can choke on it? It can kill you? That's exciting. - 63. - I like this better than the
glaze, with the raspberry. - [Stevie] This is Strawberry. - 70..., oh it's Strawberry? - [Stevie] Yes. - Did that change anything for you? - Nothing, 76. - [Stevie] Cake Batter Filled. - Uh oh! Oh and it's pretty on top. - This is getting clownish. - Too much sweet. Too much, too pretty, I'm not a child. I wouldn't even give that to a child. - 49.
40. - - Four zero. - [Stevie] Chocolate Bar. - Oh, a bar. - This is what I would order as an eclair, but we've learned that's not what it is. - That's real solid, but - I had to calibrate
how much of it I wanted. - Did you go in and come back? - [Stevie] That's exactly
what it looked like. - I just had to calibrate. - I don't like the bar formation as much as the ring formation. I like the taste though, 73. - I actually didn't get any of the cream. Was there cream in that one? - There is no cream. It's just the bar. - Well, how disappointing. (Rhett laughs) Nine. - [Stevie] Maple Bar. - And I'm spitting it out. - Again, there's no cream. This is just a doughnut
bar with maple syrup on it. - I actually like the bar
because you know where you're supposed to bite first. - I don't like it, I don't
like the consistency as much. - The more I think about it, you don't have to think
and start rotating it. - 68, it's good. - 14. - [Stevie] Okay, let's milk it up. It's time for a little break
before our next category. - Your scale alarms me sometimes. - If it's really good,
that's when it matters. - The inconsistency
between what you ranked a maple doughnut that
was shaped like a ring, and a maple bar, which
you said you preferred- - Didn't add up. - Not only didn't it add
up, it wasn't even math. - I can't remember. - The person who came up with that idea - Fine, you know what - is watching this and they
are offended by the 14. They may be fired from
Krispy Kreme because of you. - I don't want anybody to get fired. I'll change my score to the
same as the round version, minus, nope plus one cause it's a bar. (Rhett laughs) Whatever that was, add one to it. - [Stevie] It was in the filled category, so I guess I'll apologize for the way that you ate the chocolate bar. - Well, you don't wanna expect
filling when you get none. - [Stevie] This final category is the Cinnamon and/or Sugar category, starting with Sugar. - Sugar. I already know that I'm eating something that's really sugary, I
don't need to be reminded by putting extra sugar on top of it. - And that's not as good as the glaze. By any day of the week,
it's not happening. - 46. - I was just thinking a dead 50. - Dead 50? - [Stevie] Cinnamon Sugar. - Okay, now we're adding something. Now this is starting
to become more magical. - It is better with cinnamon. - 73. - It's not that good. 66. - [Stevie] And that concludes the cinnamon and sugar category. - Wow cinnamon and sugar
was just cinnamon and sugar. - [Stevie] You've now tasted all of the Krispy Kreme doughnuts, your scores will now be tabulated, so you may more closely judge
your top four doughnuts. - Okay, we're down to

you, the top four flavors of Krispy Kreme doughnuts,
in no particular order, are Original Glazed, Glazed Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Iced Custard Filled, and Chocolate Iced Glazed. - We're heavy on the
chocolate, chocolate swayed us, but we picked no peanut butter doughnuts, so you can't tell us about that. - See, see, we're not
biased to peanut butter this time around. I think this is clearly
better with the custard than with the hole. - It doesn't have the glaze, but it's got the chocolate
and it's got the custard. I agree, it's really hard to not say that this is the perfect doughnut. - I know this may be strange to you, but we seem to agree. We both really love this thing. - Always have. - Again, Panama City Beach. I don't know what you were doing there, but this is what I was doing. - Now, a cake doughnut cannot
compare to a regular doughnut, especially if you get a
doughnut hot and fresh. - The great thing is the
dippability of this doughnut. - It's a super dippable doughnut. - And it's great in milk, if I could somehow get it in there. - When it comes to the chocolate ones, I like both of these better, I will, okay, at this point I'm ready to move the Chocolate Glazed
Chocolate Covered off. - Get out of here. Now I'm just thinking that
we've gotta decide between- - These three, that's right. You're right. You know what, you're, - This is tough man. - You know what, just to let you know, we are comparing them, and we
are trying to narrow it down. (Link laughs) - I can't do this anymore,
it's too much pressure! - There is something so beautiful about the way that comes together. - Simple, pillowy, floating on a cloud. - Hey, I'm typically not
just a normal doughnut guy, like, a normal thing guy. I like the weird stuff
they sell in the window that gets you to come in. But, this is heavenly. - I think these- - These two are better than this. - Yes, yes. - So, we're putting that at number three. - So, third place is the
Chocolate Cake Glazed doughnut. - So now we're trying to figure
out this custard situation, versus the just classic hot and ready. It's like going back, time travel to the origins of doughnut. And there's a reason why you
just keep going back to it. And you buy a dozen of these,
but not a dozen of these. - They did it perfect the first time. They haven't improved on it, they just made other stuff. - You know where this is
going, ladies and gentleman, we are pleased to crown- - The Holy doughnut is just a regular old Krispy
Kreme Glazed doughnut. I'm not apologizing
for that, go taste one, especially a hot one. And if it's not hot, just
like it says on the box, put it in the microwave for
eight seconds, you dumbo. (Link laughs) And there's a hole! Don't forget, things

Now THIS is how you do a taste test. I can't believe they were able to directly contact the company! I oddly agreed with their choices here; the plain Krispy Kreme is by all means the best one. I love thorough taste tests like this, it's so fun to see the differences in Rhett and Link's opinions!

This episode made me laugh. Iβve been a faithful mythical beast for quite some time and this was my favorite episode in a while. Love these guys.
This is the happiest I've seen the guys in maybe ever--dang they love Krispy Kreme. Understandable.

My top 3 is the same as theirs. But for the top 4, Iβd have replaced the chocolate ring with a maple long john (thatβs what we call them where I grew up). The custard filled chocolate one (we called it a Bismarck on the bakery I used to work in) is so freakinβ good. I donβt like their cream filing bc itβs just too sugary sweet. Custard/pudding is the way to go.
