[Music] [Music] i heard your voice on the radio you sounded pretty cute will you want to go to sedona with me today right now yeah absolutely and for my next trick i'm going to convince a girl that's way out of my league to let me take her to lunch i'm josh a pilot and flight instructor who loves the sky sharing it with those around me and using it to see the world from a new perspective flying can seem super complex but i make it my mission to promote safe practices while enjoying the beauty this world has to offer subscribe to climb into the cockpit on future adventures this is aviation 101.991 new orleans square square to the foley airport via departure maintain 2016. [Music] it's another beautiful day in northern arizona we're on the ramp at the kingman arizona airport and it is a sunday almost at noon it's late late morning we decided that we're going to keep it simple and head 106 nautical miles east of here to sedona sedona marijuana's never been this airplane has never been to sedona that i know of in a previous life it might have i don't think it's really ever left kind of the southeastern united states very much but we were there recently but we were there recently we were at the u.s aircraft expo in scottsdale arizona representing flying eyes optics one of my buddies joel he's a sales rep and a demo pilot for cirrus and he had a demo after the expo up in sedona and he was like hey do you guys want to ride in the vision jet up to sedona of course we were like yeah we can we can make time for that so n2 is coming alive there's the light off while pressure's rising chelsea actually her first landing at sedona was in the seer in the left seat of the cirrus vision jet it was incredible we got uh we got lots of iphone footage of that so we we never made a full video of that it was a real last-minute thing so there's a place at the sedona airport called the mesa grill so we're gonna go grab a late lunch it's gonna be about an hour and 20 minute flight here from kingman i don't know what kind of drive it is i think it's a three and a half hour drive three and a half hours yeah sedona right now is reporting winds calm and sky clear i almost said winds clear sky's calm either one either one it means the same thing i think we're all ready to go right so we're gonna hop in the plane and head east towards sedona and grab some good food i'm gonna fly out to sedona and then chelsea's gonna fly back uh and it should be just yet another beautiful day to fly out west all right kingman traffic salsa 80901 departing runway 0-3 windows mixture strobes taxiing right onto the numbers here plenty of runway takeoff power's set better than 2300 cylinders look great oil pressure is great there's 45 knots 50. traffic skyline 7063 left space for 1.03 and has a traffic off the airport la center good afternoon celeste eight zero nine one ten miles east of the kingman vor seven thousand nine hundred vfr request number eight zero niner niner one squad two zero six four kingman altimeter is three zero one four [Music] i'm gonna push this down a little bit i'm watching gonna watch the egts and rpm and also just feel for engine roughness all right rpms peaked out at 26.40 they're coming down the egt's peaked out they're starting to come down so we're looking for those blue bars to get super close together and even there we're at 67 horsepower at 25.60 up here at 9 500 feet and our egt's the hottest is at 15 35. 10 degrees apart between the hottest and coldest approximately one that is so now we're at 65 power doing 6.8 gallons per hour we're probably chewing out about 6.15 [Music] and the darkness [Music] talking about sedona because every geological component of this desert town is simply breathtaking the red rocks are not only 97 are not the only star the canyons the line of the air is this arizona hot spot earth definitely a sight to be they hold a very distinct and timeless piece of history the vast gorges are made up of nine layers of different types of stones dating back millions of years and allowing these canyons to tell centuries of stories traffic salsa 80901 is 5 miles to the west we're going gonna do a 360 and follow in for the left downwind runway zero three behind the other traffic sedona i just wanna make sure he knows that we're not gonna be in his way or we're gonna stay out of his way and make sure we stay clear of these uh wilderness areas here's november 551 juliet whiskey entering left downwind to runway 0-3 they're crossing over the airport now pretty amazing sight [Music] it's a beautiful place sit on a traffic sister 809 or 901 joining the left downwind runway 0-3 we'll make it a long downwind and fall in behind the cirrus full stop sedona yeah thank you that's uh juliet whiskey uh final four runway zero three okay we're gonna level off here at six thousand feet our beat's coming out getting into the bumps we're gonna be ready for a go around if we start feeling something weird on final here white arc first notch of flaps one one thousand two one thousand three runway 0-3 will be a full stop sedona 75 knots got a little bit of bumps here we're gonna be ready for a down draft just in case we get hit by one holding alpha for the taxing one one traffic two one thousand three one thousand flap set twenty degrees one sox showing one calm that's an updraft a ground effect and let her tell me when she's ready to stall like right there positive ground contact but i need a chiropractor after that whatever that was a good landing babe it's busy they were definitely not gonna wave to a skyhawk peasant oh is there a cirrus fly in here today all right lights off avionics absolutely beautiful the airport is insanely busy today it wasn't this busy the last time we were here it almost looks like there's a cirrus fly in we indeed have not eaten all day so the airplane is shocked i put the control lock in so it will remain right there and the fbo here is going to top off the airplane for us and it is a beautiful day here in sedona lots of airplanes moving around here um pretty pretty busy perfect day to fly so we're gonna leave the airplane back there we're gonna walk into the mesa grill restaurant right here by the airport [Music] [Music] well some fantastic food at the mesa grill it's very good i got the cheddar burger cheddar white cheddar burger that's what it was you got the salmon asada salmon asada it was phenomenal we saw a lot of aviation people there we talked to some other pilots that were flying in just from all over the place sedona is definitely a a bucket list airport for a lot of people and most people were pretty close and had been here before but if you haven't flown into this airport it's phenomenal sierra ekazulu it's an awesome place to come and land grab some phenomenal food right here at the the restaurant that's just right here on the ramp uh we ran into a couple people that recognized the channel and said they watched the videos and stuff so that was that's always cool running into fellow aviation people uh left seat she's flying left seat on this leg so i'm gonna probably bury my face in the camera as i normally do and uh just get some shots especially with this amazing lighting with the sun sinking low into the sky uh we're gonna get some nice colors on the red rocks out here so chelsea's gonna fly left seat take us into kingman probably right about at sunset we've got one hour 32 minutes until the sun goes down which will probably vary just a little bit in kingman so we'll probably be landing at kingman actually right before sunset which would be nice and winds winds are dead it's it is dead calm out here and there have been planes coming in planes going out it's been very busy but actually right now the ramp is kind of calm for a minute so that being said chelsea is finished with pre-flight on the skyhawk we're gonna climb in topped off on fuel we are topped off on fuel so i think we're ready to go until next time sedona until next time beautiful red rocks and minutes out just enough time for a nap yep look at all of these streams and they're all in those canyons albuquerque center skyhawk 8-0-9-1 about 15 miles north of drake vfr request and there was uh releasing this footage in early april we're rolling into spring and our time living in northwest arizona is coming to a close the american southwest is an absolute playground for anyone pursuing the great outdoors and we had a laundry list of things we were planning to do and destinations we said we'd fly to while living here but of course we couldn't squeeze everything that our adventurous hearts desired in only six months but rest assured we'll be doing a lot more flying across the west in the coming months chelsea and i have come a long way in this time that we've spent in kingman she worked out her planned six months at m14p we trained hard to get her through her commercial check ride and i've spent countless hours coordinating and organizing probably one of the biggest projects
