what a gentleman so many international travelers a swim at Bondi soon becomes an encounter with lifeguards I personally think about 80% of the people we do rescue our international visitors getting caught in it hunt some people come all the way to Australia and they come from landlocked country stuff probably never seen the ocean often it's the newest arrivals aboard that give lifeguards the biggest surprises crazy and the wand on Monday I couldn't believe it and thongs on now obviously in New Zealand we call them Jandal the couple were from China clearly not in that much experience from the beach you have to go far I knew a thing that before news they don't wear the shoes in the water that's unbelievable I thought I've seen a bit but there that's that's up there [Music] there's a sinister Menace in the water today we have small surf conditions 28 degrees light winds and we have some blue bottles coming in blue bottle poison can affect lymph glands in the armpits and groin some people experience swelling and pain in very intimate parts of the body do that be a guy when we get stoned it goes to the glands certain things can swollen and can be very very painful [Music] Matthew is from country New South Wales it's his first time at Bondi and his first encounter with blue bottles my cousin like Danny went up that made babe yeah come on Stangl anchorwoman bat-radio up against the leg and then flux pattern Brian there and I do buddy studies I like the word um yeah that is some familiar I've been just been kicking back to Milan lifeguards provide Matthew with a bag of ice to reduce swelling self-administered then they they they cop it a little bit worse sometimes they give me a bag or I can tuck my bags [Music] don't make me laugh nothing was more the Harry's always coming up with ideas and some are good and some are out there wacky there was a board that had a motor in it that device is a winner he's got a gadget for literally everything for sharks whatever it takes to preserve human life for the road for walking none of them have worked stretching I wouldn't be surprised if before you know it we're all out in submarines he's relentless for Harry's the cogs are always turning lifeguard is about being dynamic it's been being innovative in the job that you do and every year we try and test a new device and having a bike like this you have you able to weave all your way through the crowd a lot quicker [Music] Perris is peddling the idea that electric bikes are faster and more efficient than the buggies it's just much more agile not as loud and you can get to rescues a whole lot quicker however the veteran innovator has his skeptics what do you record yet I haven't seen too many push bikes on Bondi Beach yeah I don't know good to see if it works our mine I suppose the jury's out still because somehow it goes on the soft sand might go ok on the heart out to prove a point Perris has challenged Jackson to race I've got my baby seated for my kids of course we're gonna put the D few minute to kind of simulate how you could do this on a bike and get it off quite quickly to our to save the life it's a really good day to test the bike because there's not many people on the beach and there's a strong southerly blowing we're gonna race yeah bike vs. buggy from the middle of the beach down to the northern end you think I'm a nut I'm not crazy by the way at the starting line Perry's confidence is unshaken I know for a fact that you can move the bike a lot quicker see how fast I can actually go with pedal power it was pretty funny watching him race Jackson I could maneuver between the people quite easy I didn't put anyone at danger the can-am went a little faster so bike versus buggy what is the verdict no bad just got in the end but it was quicker than I thought you would be the technology isn't quite there yet we need to refine it just a little more before I introduce it to the lifeguard saving lives after receiving first aid from lifeguards the ground wheels whirring [Music] he's back with a Christmas present and I write this song for those guys because I really appreciate what they do and I just haven't got enough to say to the lifeguards just they just say good I was sort of hoping that same again and now in the hallways come back in you this guitar I mean good - bu [Music] Oh [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] yeah I've definitely got a little corner Behar fast you means a I got a place reserved for him I love him I suddenly change hits the beach so it's like a mini tornado down at Bondi that wind was that was out of control eyebrows a flying everywhere but one family isn't daunted by the week knife brought an armada to bondi the beach ball has disappeared but the woman seems determined there are other inflatables wide escape so easily she had a flamingo and a unicorn she had them tied together there's no way she's going to get from the promenade down to the shoreline without help if there was a lifeguard that's fine himself as a flamingo probably be myself but we all reckon he's a bit more of a peacock with his tail fluffed up shaking his bomb around I have to be honest my my bloody I'm Drella waiting somewhere and three other girls that are chasing a mad ball the ball last day they tell a little floor can we take it for a little ride mocchi yeah yeah I've timed a couple of old lovers in my time but I've never timed a while for me go before long bond eyes most flamboyant lifeguard is in a flat [Music] [Music] is that I've pretty much seen it all I rescued five thousand people out in the water I've rescued a wombat on the shoreline today I was challenged by blower flamingos it's just too much of a windy day I know this is an international beach and then everything else but I reckon I can match it with a big ball I go again sad to say but you're gonna have to bring your flamingo back another day [Music] the mystery is everything to me Jara the Miss Springs everything to me around yeah it was good to have a bit of fun
