Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
Damn I used to love Jake and Amir on CollegeHumor (a show that Sam Reich was great in) sad to see where itβs at now. The Badman sketches were threat as well
Lots of unemployed comedians with time on their hands? At least the Reddit comment section will get funnier.
I'm more surprised they had 100 employees to begin with. How on earth did they make enough money to hire 100 people with so little views in the past few years?
Wow, kind of surprising but kind of not surprising at the same time. The videos have gone up and down in quality over the years but this is kind of the end of an era in a lot of ways.
I guess they went all in on drop out and it didnβt work out.
from 2008 to 2011 I missed the early youtube days and newgrounds because of the collegehumor website, id just let it play the queue for hours glued to my laptop. They had some choice vids, and their hardly working sketches were my favorite. This was the first comedy website that ruined TV for me. As they grew and got new people I didn't really like the comedy anymore. The main thing is that it did not feel subversive anymore. They tried to be mainstream and tackle a lot of social and cultural issues. While these topics are important, you can still be funny while being subversive against the dominant ideology, but since most of the people at CH were vying for their big show business breakthrough, they HAD to toe the line and play the game. Like adam ruins everything; that shit is interesting as fuck but the jokes land as hard as the jokes my writing adjunct professor would tell. Steering clear of these issues is good enough, a comedy channel preaching wokeness is not funny. Two of my favorite vids linked below:

And it's Facebook and his deceived metric practices responsible for this mess

And Jake, Amir, Emily, (Ryan Creamer is a cast member too???) and a whole bunch of others.
EDIT: According to Dropout, Brennan is the ONLY cast member who stayed, and he'll still be making content. What a legend.
It should also be mentioned that they aren't 100% dead and were close to being profitable, so Sam Reich has said that there's still 6 months worth of content for them to upload and he's still trying to salvage the company in that timeframe.
If you care enough, he's said the best way to support them is supporting their streaming platform Dropout where they put all their stuff - and this isn't just the comedy sketches you always see, they also do gameshows, comedy webseries, an animated show and most famously Drawfee and Dimension 20 - a DnD series similar to Critical Role that's really underrated imo.
TIL Americans pronounce it 'croi-sawnt' with a hard 't'. Most places I've lived people say 'croi-sawn'.
