true we glory for you we give you thanks thanks for your great glory lord god heavenly king o god almighty father lord jesus christ only begotten son lord god of god son of a father you take away the sins of the world of mercy on us you take away the sins of our word receive [Music] you are seated at the right hand of the father of mercy on us on us for you alone are the holy one you are the lord peaceful rule and that your church may rejoice untroubled in her devotion through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever a reading from the book of sirach when a sieve is shaken the husk appear so do one's faults when one speaks as the test of what the potter molds is in the furnace so in tribulation is the test of the just the fruit of a tree shows the care it has had so too does one's speech disclose the bent of one's mind praise no one before he speaks for it is then that people are tested the word of the lord [Music] lord it is good to give thanks to you lord it is good to give thanks to you it is good to give thanks to the lord to sing praise to your name most high to proclaim your kindness at dawn and your faithfulness throughout the night lord it is good to give thanks to you the just one shall flourish like the palm tree like a cedar of lebanon shall we glow they that are planted in the halls of the lord shall flourish in the courts of our god lord it is good to give thanks to you they shall bear fruit even old age vigorous and sturdy shall they be declaring all justice the lord my rocking home there is no wrong lord it is good to give thanks to [Music] a reading from the letter of saint paul to the corinthians brothers and sisters when this which is corruptable clothes itself with incorruptibility and this which is mortal close itself with immorality then the word that is written shall come about death is swallowed up in victory where o death is your victory where o death is your sting the sting of death is sin and the power of sin is the law but thanks be to god who gives us the victory through our lord jesus christ therefore my beloved brothers and sisters be firm steadfast always fully devoted to the work of the lord knowing that in the lord your labor is not in vain the word of the lord is [Music] oh shine like lights like light in the world [Music] the lord be with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to luke glory jesus told his disciples a parable can a blind person guide a blind person will not both fall into a pit no disciple is superior to the teacher but when fully trained every disciple will be like his teacher why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own how can you say to your brother brother let me remove that splinter in your eye when you do not even notice the wooden beam in your own eye you hypocrite remove the wooden beam from your eye first then you will see clearly to remove the splinter in your brother's eye a good tree does not bear rotten fruit nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit for every tree is known by its own fruit for people do not pick figs from thorn bushes nor do they gather grapes from brambles a good person out of the store of goodness a good a good person out of the store of goodness in his own heart produces good but an evil person out of the store of evil produces evil for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks the gospel of the lord jesus christ so as our lord says in today's gospel a good tree does not bear rotten fruit nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit for every tree is known by its own fruit because of that every christian may consider themselves a tree in the lord's vineyard with our lord as the the divine gardener our lord himself has planted each member of the church as a tree in good fertile productive ground in the garden of the church where it is watered by the living water of grace our lord has given it the most tender care cut off its useless branches by trials and watered its roots with his precious blood he has taken such good care of it that he can say what is there that i ought to do more to my vineyard that i have not done for it after all this care for our soul our lord looks to see what kind of fruit this tree is bearing and by its fruit he judges us before the redemption our lord one for us on the cross all people were like a wild tree which could bring forth only fruits of death but with the re redemption we have been grafted onto our lord and our lord who nourishes us with his own blood has every right to find in us fruits of holiness this is why words and even faith are not enough for as the letter of saint james says faith without works is dead works fulfillment of god's will are necessary because as our lord said not everyone that says to me lord lord shall enter the kingdom of heaven but the person that does the will of my father who is in heaven saint catherine of siena set about our lord helping us to be the tree that bears good fruit she said what great dignity o god does the soul receive which has been grafted on to you and what excellent fruits it produces she said how does this tree bear these fruits if by itself it is sterile and dead it bears them in you o christ for if you had not been grafted on to it could produce no fruit by its own power for it is nothing thus a soul who has been grafted onto you for nothing but your honor and the salvation of souls it becomes faithful prudent and patient be ashamed my soul she said that you deprive yourself of so much good on account of your faults the good i do is of no use to you o god and the evil of which i am guilty cannot harm you but you are pleased when your creature brings forth fruits of life because she will reap infinite good from them and attain the end for which you created her many people bring forth only fruits of death said saint catherine due to their sins and to the refusal to be grafted onto you o eternal life many remain in the death of their sins and do not come to the fountain from which christ's blood flows to water their tree and thus it is seen that you created us without your help but you will not save us without it i think this is the true sign of those who have been grafted on to you they fulfill your will according to your pleasure and not according to their own so that they become clothed in your will in our second reading the original sin of adam and eve is mentioned where saint paul says where o death is your victory it was that original sin of adam and eve that brought death into the world because when god created adam and eve besides the supernatural gifts of grace he gave them other gifts among which was the gift of bodily immortality which adam and eve were to transmit to us their descendants original sin carried with it the loss of friendship with god and as a result the loss of that gift of immortality thinking about our mortality and its consequences helps us to be detached from earthly things to put them in the proper order of importance which strengthens our friendship with our lord and shows the christian meaning we have tried to give our life and so enables a person to look forward with serenity to their meeting with god at the end of their life saint joseph the patron of a happy death had at his side our lord and mary when the time came for him to leave this world and so saint joseph can teach us to prepare for that meeting with god at the end of our life on the other hand saint john paul ii set about people's fear of death he said all around us we see man afflicted by the dread of imminent dissolution the certainty of dying recoiling in fear from the torment of pain and sorrow and pope john paul said it is true that sorrow and death disconcert the human spirit they continue to be a baffling enigma for those who do not believe in god but by faith we know that these evils will be overcome that the victory has been won already in the death and resurrection of jesus christ our redeemer we see saint john paul ii shows us that serenity and optimism we can have when thinking about our death result from a firm hope in our lord and that uncertainty about our last end should lead us to trust in god's mercy and to be very faithful in using the gifts we have received from god the opportunity to acquire merit for eternal life ends with each person's death which is what our lord was referring to when he said night comes when no one can work thinking about our last end can motivate us while we are still on earth to make sure our love for god is not lukewarm and that love is shown by our following the commandments thinking about our last end can motivate us against any reluctance to commit ourselves completely to god's service and can motivate us to develop our relationship with god through prayer and good works thinking about our last end can enable a person to understand that this life is a short period in which we can gain merit in the sight of god as each person will bring with them only the merits of their good works and the weight of their sins which they have not confessed when they come to their judgment before god so that at the end of our life on earth we can see it will be the meeting of a child with his father whom we have tried to serve throughout our life and in this celebration our lord gives us that grace to bear good fruit as he gives us his body and blood in holy communion and please stand for the creed i believe in one god the father almighty maker of heaven and earth all things was of all one invisible i believe in one lord jesus christ the only begotten son of god born of the father before all ages god from god light from light true god from true god gotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the holy spirit was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end i believe in the holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen we now pray to god with all our hearts please respond lord hear our prayer for pope francis and bishop david zubik may they continue by god's grace to be strengthened by the good news of the gospel let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for innocent people in ukraine and around the world harmed by violence or instability may god bless and console them let us pray to the lord r lord hear our prayer for the community of faith gathered here may we grow in compassion and love through the grace of the holy spirit and the example of jesus let us pray to the lord r lord hear our prayer for the intentions that each of us bring to mass today may those who have asked for our prayers be comforted by our compassion strengthen through our prayers and be restored to the fullness of life and health through the healing touch of god let us pray to the lord r lord hear our prayer for our beloved dead especially bridget b persianni and erica rich may they come to share the fullness of christ's glory and enjoy his favor forever let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer and for the special intention for which this mass is being offered let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer listen to the prayer of your people a god of tender mercy in your loving kindness give us renewed hearts we ask this through christ our lord [Music] oh recognize that by their faithlessness deny your [Music] [Music] confess that you are lord you ask for lies whose faithfulness supports our spoken word lord help [Music] greed combined so [Music] pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father may the lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name for our good and good of all this holy church o god who provide gifts to be offered to your name and count our oblations as signs of our desire to serve you with devotion we ask of your mercy that what you grant us as the source of merit may also help us to attain merits reward through christ our lord amen the lord be with you and with your spirit lift up your hearts we lift them up to the lord let us give thanks to the lord our god it is right it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord in him you have been pleased to renew all things giving us all a share in his fullness for though he was in the form of god he emptied himself and by the blood of his cross brought peace to all creation therefore he has been exalted above all things and to all who obey him has become the source of eternal salvation and so with angels and archangels with thrones and dominions and with all the hosts and powers of heaven we sing the hymn of your glory as with thou end we acclaim [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Music] is [Music] you are indeed holy o lord and all you have created rightly gives you praise for through your son our lord jesus christ by the power and working of the holy spirit you give life to all things and make them holy and you never cease to gather a people to yourself so that from the rising of the sun to its setting a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name therefore lord we humbly implore you by the same spirit graciously make holy these gifts we have brought to you for consecration that they may become the body and blood of your son our lord jesus christ at whose command we celebrate these mysteries for on the night he was betrayed he himself took bread and giving you thanks he said the blessing broke the bread and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and giving you thanks he said the blessing and gave the chalice to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith [Music] until you come again [Music] therefore lord as we celebrate the memorial of the saving passion of your son his wondrous resurrection and ascension into heaven and as we look forward to his second coming we offer you in thanksgiving this holy and living sacrifice look we pray upon the oblation of your church and recognizing the sacrificial victim by whose death you willed to reconcile us to yourself grant that we who are nourished by the body and blood of your son and filled with his holy spirit may become one body one spirit in christ may he make of us an eternal offering to you so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect especially with the most blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with your blessed apostles and glorious martyrs with saint raphael and with all the saints on whose constant intercession in your presence we rely for unfailing help may this sacrifice of our reconciliation we pray o lord advance the peace and salvation of all the world be pleased to confirm and faith and charity your pilgrim church on earth with your servant francis our pope and david our bishop and william and mark his assistant bishops the order of bishops all the clergy and the entire people you have gained for your own listen graciously to the prayers of this were pleasing to you at their passing from this life give kind admittance to your kingdom there we hope to enjoy forever the fullness of your glory through christ our lord through whom you bestow on the world all that is good him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever [Music] amen [Music] at the savior's command against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from
